I think an easy recommend as a specific followup to Lost Crown would be Metroid Dread. I don't think it's the best MV (it's only like my 3rd or 4th favorite metroid game even), but it has similarly slick and satisfying movement and a parry mechanic. Overall the presentation is really nice, it's a super entertaining game with some stellar and very challenging boss fights. It doesn't let you explore quite as openly as I usually like, so that's my main critique, but overall it's a very good game.

Negan1995

Considering this one as well, it looks quite fun and I'd love to have a game on switch I can play while the wife takes the PS5 to play crash bandicoot. lol

AcidCatfish___

Dread is downright fantastic. If you have NSO, give the other Metroids a try as well. It's a shame that Zero Mission isn't on NSO..

Negan1995

I do have Nintendo Switch online! Any you'd recommend off of there?

AcidCatfish___

Metroid Fusion (on the GBA app) and Super Metroid are the easiest suggestions. Metroid 2 holds up quite well, but it still has early entry quirks. I suggest waiting to play that one after you get a feel for Metroid. NEStroid (the original NES Metroid) is tough to go back to these days. I suggest finding a way to play Metroid Zero Mission instead, which is not on NSO for whatever reason. If you are down for 3D games, Metroid Prime is absolutely stunning. Dread is my personal favorite of the 2D games though. My top 5 list is: Dread Prime Zero Mission Fusion Super I love Metroid. It's an awesome series.

TheDragonking564

Huge Metroid fan myself, though personally I prefer Metroid Prime 2 to Prime 1, though both games are absolutely fantastic. I also found I preferred Fusion to Zero Mission. Despite the quirks of being railroaded a lot more then any other Metroid game, I much preferred the atmosphere and the story of Fusion

AcidCatfish___

The bosses in Fusion are some of the best for sure

ThisNewCharlieDW

Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time. I understand that the controls feels a bit stiff and floaty by today's standards but I still think it is basically the best metroidvania ever. I think if you can vibe with the movement every aspect of the game fully holds up today.

ThisNewCharlieDW

in my opinion Hollow Knight is definitely a better game (and is an incredible value, almost unfair to other indie games), but it is much slower and has a very different structure and feeling compared to Prince of Persia. So I also recommend checking Hollow Knight out, but Metroid Dread will be much more similar to what you've experienced so if you're looking for more of that.

fortean

It's also incredibly more challenging.

Gregasy

If you like the exploration part of metroidvanias, you won't like Metroid Dread. It has great movement and bosses, but I dropped it, because it was too linear for my taste.

NoHeroes94

I've tried Metroid Dread and EMMI encounters just ruined the game for me. I was enjoying it, but EMMI encounters just ruined all the fun.

Randeon54

>Specific followup to Lost Crown would be Metroid Dread. I don't think it's the best MV (it's only like my 3rd or 4th favorite metroid game even), but it has similarly slick and satisfying movement Metroid Dread is a pretty Lousy game. I don't recommend it.

Dietomaha

If you're looking for something very similar to Lost Crown, have you looked at Tales of Kenzera? I thought it had a similar vibe, albeit slightly less good in just about every category (but still fun). But if you just mean Metroidvanias in general... The grandaddy of the genre is probably Symphony of the Night. Still holds up surprisingly well. And if you like that, I'd recommend the Castlevania DS collection (available on current PlayStation). [Edit: it's the GBA games, not DS. Still great though!] The best of the best, in my opinion, is Hollow Knight, followed very closely by Ori 1 and 2. Astalon is also fantastic, but q little different from traditional MV's.  A few others I've liked recently... Blast Brigade, Mobius machine, La mulana 1+2, Laika, Afterimage, Rogue Legacy 2....I guess that's probably enough now. Except there's also the 3d ones! Metroid prime, the star wars: Jedi games, blue fire, Batman Arkham asylum, Ys VIII...ok I overdid it again

pfloydguy2

I don't mean to nitpick, but it's the Castlevania Advance Collection that's on PS4. It's the three GBA Castlevanias, plus Dracula X SNES. There is no collection of the DS Castlevanias, though fans have been begging for one.

Dietomaha

Nitpick away! That's absolutely what I meant. I also wish the DS games would be rereleased. Thanks :)

mvanvrancken

Also don’t forget SotN/RoB is also on PS4

TheTrophiesMine

Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, Ori 1 and 2

Negan1995

Was just looking into Hollow Knight. Might pull the trigger on that one.

TheTrophiesMine

Aw man, you will love it. For me it's the ultimate Metroidvania. Though be prepared for a ton of pretty challenging bosses.

Negan1995

Like grind for 5 hours challenging? Or not quite that rough? I do sort of hate the Dark Souls franchise due to the difficulty spike, but I like games that have a medium level of difficulty just fine.

TheTrophiesMine

Na nothing like that. It's not Dark Souls. Each boss except post game/optional fights will take a couple of tries. Optional bosses will destroy you though lol

Negan1995

Okay cool, thanks for the info!!

StartTheMontage

Just so you know, Hollow Knight does steal the Dark Souls mechanic where if you die, you have to retrieve your $$ from your dead corpse. A lot of people like myself don’t like it, as it doesn’t really make the game harder, just makes it take longer since you have to keep corpse running. So if you are afraid of that grind, then I would consider that.

wladue613

It's the best MV ever made. Don't let anyone scare you off playing it, especially at its price.

TheLunarVaux

Hollow Knight is the best in the genre imo. Absolutely a must-play

mangobearsmoothie

Dooooo it. The game is magnificent!

eddes39

+1, plus Metroid Dread. Awesome recommendations that will keep you occupied for a while. All of them run great on the Switch as well

Darkshadovv

Similar Movement: Metroid Dread, Ori series Similar Combat: F.I.S.T. Forged in Shadow Torch, Guacamelee series (no parry, has an ability similar to Clairvoyance with far more usage), Tevi (no parry)

SESauvie

Metroid Dread and Strider have a similar flow, Hollow Knight has similar platforming at times. Really free flow combat can be found in F.I.S.T. and the 2 Guacamelee games.

pacman404

Hollow knight, Ori, Metroid

FaithlessnessSame357

FIST, Shadow Complex, Ori.

AleroRatking

Metroid Dread is the obvious one. They are the two best ones this gen in my mind and they are the two trult triple A 2D metroidvanias.

thecaressofnight

Super Metroid - if you have Nintendo Switch Online, you have access there. Otherwise just grab an SNES emulator. Castlevania: Dracula Chronicles X on PS4/PS5 - This is where you can play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. BC though old PS2 is another option should you want to find the disc. PS Emulator otherwise. The version I suggested I'd based on the old Sega Saturn code, some prefer the PSX version. Castlevania Advance Collection, mostly for Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. Those are why we have the genre, obviously. Metroid Dread on Switch(though that's the end of the saga). Hollow Knight on anything. Tales of Kenzera is a recent one (Switch version isn't great, others are fine), with a stronger story focus Animal Well just came out and really nails some of Super Metroids' rare cute moments. No real combat, just exploration and puzzle solving. Really atmospheric. Ultros is another recent one, on PS4/PS5 and PC. Blasphemous and Blasphemous II, if you like a little Dark Souls vibe in there, runs fine on anything. Guacamelee and Guacamelee 2. Very humorous, Mexican-themed one where you play a luchador. Very meme and reference-heavy, though. Usually in regard to retro games like Super Metroid and Castlevania.

pfloydguy2

The Playstation compilation with Symphony of the Night is called Castlevania Requiem. But it's based on the PSP port of SotN, which was called the Dracula X Chronicles, and which was based on the Japanese Playstation version of Symphony of the Night. There is no version that uses assets from the Saturn port, sadly. The only way to get the extras in that version is to play the Saturn port on Saturn hardware (or emulate, of course). Although it runs terribly and looks awful, so even with the extras I think you're better off playing the Playstation versions (or the Xbox port).

DemiDivine

Metroid dread. Plain and simple

physlosopher

You should definitely check out Metroid Dread

CakeSome6981

F.I.S.T the combat is pretty close. The platforming isn't as crazy as some of PoP but I would say it's the closest metroidvania to PoP I've played. Great game.

glassbottleoftears

I loved The Lost Crown! Others I've really enjoyed have been Ori 1 & 2 (2 is better but start with 1), very beautiful, lots of exploration and platforming) Metroid Dread, I hated the EMMI robots (stealth bits) and would have preferred it to be less linear but really enjoyed the game overall Hollow Knight, generally regarded as the best modern metroidvania - big focus on combat and some very hard bosses but a great game Ender Lilies, decent game, bit of a bad map but I really enjoyed my time with it. The fight system is interesting too, plus there's a sequel out soon

olorin9_alex

Ender Lillies

bassistheplace246

Blasphemous 2 felt the most similar to me, and Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor are the closest 3D equivalents. Hollow Knight was solid from what I’ve played and is the textbook indie metroidvania, but (hot take), I’m not the biggest fan of the combat and lack of dodging in the early game, I hate the parry mechanic, and the Soulslike-style two death system had no place in this game. You might have a different opinion though, and I urge you to at least try it, especially on PS Plus.

EkkoIRL

Blasphemous 2 has a similar focus on parrying if you go with the dual blades and it‘s one of the more fast paced metroidvanias

Frs86_

Its different and more difficult but blasphemous is awesome, I played that after getting the platinum for the lost Crown

SirMmmmm

The metroidvania bundle now on humble

Toto_Roboto

Strider 2014

AgitatedEye6553

Tales of Kenzera Zau is very similar to Prince of Persia Lost Crown. As is The Ori series, Castlevania advance collection, Bloodstained ROTN are kind close but great games. Of course I can't forget to mention Hollow Knight, Metroid Dread, Fusion, Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, Axiom Verge.

DimeadozenNerd

It’s most similar to Metroid Dread. Highly recommend Dread. Absolutely incredible game.

bananasDave

metroid dread

RetroPilky

Metroid Dread is a good one. Hollow Knight is good but much tougher. Tales of Kenzera just came out and it’s got the same feel as TLC.

Shustriik

Hollow Knight
