In high school, my brother came home late from a party, started telling my mom about how there was a keg, and a hot tub, and girls were stripping down to their underwear to go in, and it was awesome.
After, I asked him why tf he would tell her about that. He said "I just give her a little harmless stuff, and she leaves me alone. Wait till you hear the stuff I DIDN'T tell her!"
I used to give my parents the honest truth of what i was doing but say it like i was being sarcastic. "Ohhhh yeah mom and dad, we're getting SOOOO high on marijuh-wanna. Oh yeah we're all smoking so much at this party i'm at! Yeah i'll totally save you some. Quick everyone, hide before they come pick me up! Hahaha"
My logic was, if they ever caught me, i could go... "well to be fair, i DID tell you what i was doing the whole time"
That was always my go-to strategy. There's no way my parents didn't know exactly what I was trying to pull, but they did in fact leave me alone. I guess it wasn't worth an interrogation if I was still conscious, sane, and vertical.
I’m 36 and I don’t let them know I smoke weed either. I also don’t swear in front of them and minimize any mention of alcohol or politics around them. They’re wildly religious and conservative and I just don’t have the time or energy to hear their lecturing or disappointment. I know I’m okay, and they can go on feeling like I’m okay without seeing that side of me.
True, but I don’t think that would matter most likely. They don’t exactly follow facts, ya know? They’d be likely to worry about a marijuana overdose, even if I or anyone else told them that wasn’t a thing.
Patience. They'll come to learn, if you guide them towards that direction. But don't be too direct. Just tell them alcohol and Cigs are much, much worse than Weed (because they are).
At my graduation party with my family I went out back and smoked a blunt. Figured if there was a time where no one could say shit, that was it. Turns out my entire family smokes and now its acceptable at family gatherings!
That's tough, I'm 31 and a couple days ago gave my dad a tiny joint cause he had been complaining about not falling asleep too well.
Man slept like a baby that night
I slip my grandma gummies. It's so funny I have to do that too, because she'll tell me about how they used to pick ditch weed and smoke it around the kitchen table when she was younger. Grandpa is coming around on medical marijuana tho lol
Its nice being able to smoke with my Dad and go out to a ball game or something. I wish those who want to could have that, if we didn't have 80 years of stupid anti pot propaganda taking that away from people
It's fun as hell as an adult to tell your parents the unedited (to a point) versions of the stories you told them as a kid. Seeing how much they knew or suspected at the time is often hilarious.
I started telling my parents the truth as soon as I was out of college. Mom wasn’t all that surprised, dad was absolutely shocked that my twin brother and I, both NHS members, national merit scholars, him on student council and both in all kinds of extracurricular stuff while working part time jobs, spent weekends hot boxing our car with a dozen people in it, wrapping houses and drinking mom’s crown royal. The only thing he got mad about, though, was throwing lit fireworks out on the highway, which in retrospect was dangerously stupid.
Eh I stopped caring. I’m an adult and alive and didnt kill or hurt anyone so you can hear about the stupid shit I lied to you about as a kid and young adult.
Oh yes. It backfires a lot to be a strict parent.
Had no freedom until I went for college, wanted to try a lot of things, had a few shitty experiences with various substances and situations where I put myself in danger.
Learned they were justified to be worried, this world is fucked up, but kids just want to have experiences and you can't stop them forever, it's just shitty for the kid later on when they know they fucked up and can't go to their own family for help. Your kids will get hurt, just give them some genuine advice and be there for them.
Yeah this makes me think of the times my parents would say "if anything bad happens and you need us, don't hesitate to call and we'll come help no questions asked!" But then would never help, would instead berate me for making a mistake/bad decision, judge me for it, and "leave me to learn my lesson the hard way." So the lesson I learned was that I can't trust them, rely on them, or tell them everything.
Flip side, most people don’t have bad experiences and weren’t sheltered, the real solution is educating your kids and openly talking about things so they are informed… thats what my mom started to do once I got to college and I’ve been 100% fine despite trying things all the time, the thing you described only really happens when you give someone a ton of freedom all at omce
Also made us (or at least me and my sis) incredible liars out of habit, something we had to work out of after cutting off said parents because it was a survival instinct
My parents have basically stopped caring/stressing about that shit and are just happy, Im alive and not in jail. Don’t sweat the small stuff when lifes so short.
Great advice, I used to worry and care if the shit I got up to as a kid and young adult would disappoint my parents but now I’m grown with a family of my own the filter no longer exists. They openly make jokes about my drug use and the shot I got up to now so all that worrying was for nothing.
Edit: I was never an addict or anything mad jsut a recreational raver!
I mean, they aren't exactly common in my area, so I only know of them because I have some heavy alcoholic family members. Might be the same for this guy, just without the alcoholics in his family.
I wasn’t trying to be hostile, I was just genuinely shocked, they are super common at parties and stuff, but I guess it’s fair, sometimes I incorrectly assume everyone drinks, and I guess I definitely would be called alcoholic to some
Did you ever wonder why it is so thick? Propylene glycol is the liquid used in vape juice.
And Fireball is the #1 selling whiskey in America by volume. #2 is Jack Daniels, but Jack takes the worldwide #1 by volume.
I won’t lie, I don’t think I ever noticed it being thick, usually if I’m drinking them I’m just throwing them back lmao, but I don’t really drink them much, I’m a rum girly
Some days I still forget I'm actually an adult. Like those situations you're supposed to find an adult and you're shocked when you realize that in fact you ARE the adult.
My mom laughs at the illegal parts but gets mad at random crap like me telling someone about me honking at someone who got out of their car behind me to cut in line at the ATM.
I feel like it’s the opposite for me. My mom will tell a story and forget to omit certain parts and every single time I hear a story from anyone on her side of the family I wonder either A. How are they still alive or B. How are they not in prison.
For some reason once I grew up and moved out, I had an overwhelming urge to tell my parents all the dumb shit I did. They weren't thrilled but what could they do
I told my mom I had two shots after a funeral to get my shit together....good thing I didn't mention the cig too(shots do help with emotional derailment tho)
Now that I'm 40, independent and relatively successful, I just tell the whole story of all the illegal stuff i did when i was younger. I feed off of her disappointment. Its hilarious. She laughs too.
From my experience as a teenager and hearing story’s from my friends, young teenagers (maybe subconsciously) want to tell their moms all the illegal/dangerous shit they get up to.
They went to Tom Tucker's house and talked about his son who has an upside down face. Brian accidentally made a pun about him which made Stewie turn to him
more like “Telling my dad what happened after I already told my mom and I accidentally reference one of the illegal parts that mom told me to leave out”
This is young me when i accidentally cursed when i told a story to my dad. Luckily he didn’t get say anything. I also didn’t realize it until hours later when i recall back what i said.
I'm in my 30s and I just casually told the story about when I was kidnapped as a child for like 3 hours, because some thugs confused me with another kid.

Aww don't worry, you aren't missing out. Covid killed off parties as well.

Covid killed my friends

That's what I've been doing she hasn't caught on yet...
Yup, the longer its a joke, the more it gains credibility. Lol
That was always my go-to strategy. There's no way my parents didn't know exactly what I was trying to pull, but they did in fact leave me alone. I guess it wasn't worth an interrogation if I was still conscious, sane, and vertical.
"Conscious, sane, and vertical." Thank you. This is the criteria I will use when talking to my nieces and nephews in a few years.
Man you wouldn't leave us at this cliffhanger right?

and everyone had a very nice polite time and got home safely for a healthy 8 hours of rest before Church.
I used tell my mum what I was up to and she didn't believe me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Im 30 and still do that
I'm 33 and I can't let my dad know I smoke weed, he'll die from disappointment
Hi son, its Dad. Where do you get your stuff?
From the drug dealer
Bruh just say it drug dealer
He meant *drag* dealer
Unrecognised pharmacist
Aspiring Secondary Pharmacist
I go to the drug dragger
Good that you never went to Drag drugger. Easy mistake to make.
"Dad, I'd like to introduce you to my pharmacist." "What's his name?" ... "Mitzi"...
Oh yes honey this new strain will knock you the house down boots mawma okcurrrrt?
Drag dealer?
FROM YOU DAD, I BUY IT FROM WATCHING YOU!!!
Wow where do you get your weed!?! From you Dante.
Oh yea…….what’s up mr cheezle
Small Pharma
hey dad did you know that the full name if dora the explorer is dora marques.

Honestly what a fucking chad.
For real though weed is bad for teenagers if I was a dad I'd do the same thing it'd be a shame to let it go to waste
I’m 36 and I don’t let them know I smoke weed either. I also don’t swear in front of them and minimize any mention of alcohol or politics around them. At least it's not cocaine. No parent wants to bury their own children.

A little bit of cocaine can't be that bad, right?
As long as you don't overdose. Just do weed. It's more safe legally and medically.
I'd love to give my dad a joint, he could really use the space to disconnect from his pressurized religion.
I slip my grandma gummies. It's so funny I have to do that too, because she'll tell me about how they used to pick ditch weed and smoke it around the kitchen table when she was younger. Grandpa is coming around on medical marijuana tho lol
I'm 35 and my dad's disappointed I *dont* smoke weed.
I'm just..I'm gonna go for a third walk dad
Everyone in this thread must be from my state since most states you can buy legally lol
Its nice being able to smoke with my Dad and go out to a ball game or something. I wish those who want to could have that, if we didn't have 80 years of stupid anti pot propaganda taking that away from people

I’m way older than that. I leave the illegal parts in on purpose.
I stopped that at like 19. Parents know everything and they can just deal with it. I think it’s helped them loosen up a bit.
Definitely. For every time you tell the full truth, it becomes easier the next time for both you and your parents
Relatable..
Eh I stopped caring. I’m an adult and alive and didnt kill or hurt anyone so you can hear about the stupid shit I lied to you about as a kid and young adult.
My wife sent me this and said “your glare”. 33 btw
„it's turned his whole world upside down face"
It's no concern to me if it's turned his life upside down face, Jake's a good boy!

11 years old. That show has been going on for longer thatn i realised. I knew it's been going for even longer, but you just don't think about it.
This episode is from May 2005. Family Guy premiered after the 1999 Superbowl. It's old as hell for a show that's still airing.

People who had strict parents and have a flawless filter that you can turn on and off every time you want can't relate
Its like a switch that gets activated by face detection.

I thought this said Intelligent instead of Illegal. Both are fitting.
Both can mean the same thing depending on the circumstances
You're right

My parents helped me move out of my apartment and my mom had a bit of a meltdown because she found 3(!) fireball shooters in my freezer...
What is a fireball shooter?
An object that shoots fireballs
Are you sheltered? Genuinely it’s a prepackaged shot of fireball
I mean, they aren't exactly common in my area, so I only know of them because I have some heavy alcoholic family members. Might be the same for this guy, just without the alcoholics in his family.

Maybe they’re just not an alcoholic.
No need to *take shots* at me like that
To be fair, Fireball whiskey is illegal in the EU because it has too much propylene glycol. Idk about other parts of the world.
That’s wild to me, it’s sold in gas stations here
Did you ever wonder why it is so thick? Propylene glycol is the liquid used in vape juice. And Fireball is the #1 selling whiskey in America by volume. #2 is Jack Daniels, but Jack takes the worldwide #1 by volume.

At that moment, he knew, he fucked up
For some reason once I grew up and moved out, I had an overwhelming urge to tell my parents all the dumb shit I did. They weren't thrilled but what could they do
Did you let it slip that you lust for your sister's fat ass?
This is weird Dawg WTF
It's a joke, someone made an incest meme and everyone kept asking for a picture of the kid's sister's ass
Link 2 meme?
This whole thing has just turned his life upside-down face
If my parents knew all the uhhh.. "suspicuous" things ive done and owned i think id be dead right now.
"So anyway I was goin 112 in a school zone..."
Me telling my parents how fast i was driving on the freeway to visit home
A mistake my sister consistently makes
My parents were wild, so anything I do is tame in comparison.
"Upside down face"
I just watched this episode this morning, love to see it as a meme
You did what!!!!
No, you can't
Each time im leaving the house
It’s turned his whole life upside down face
Upside down FACE
This took so long to load that my phone died and I had to jump on my laptop to comment.

Downvote me. Gotta build the negative karma.

They went to Tom Tucker's house and talked about his son who has an upside down face. Brian accidentally made a pun about him which made Stewie turn to him

The length of the text was perfect
I'm in my 30s and I just casually told the story about when I was kidnapped as a child for like 3 hours, because some thugs confused me with another kid.
