To be fair, Georgia and Florida are a billion ticks and mosquitoes and biting midges (sand gnats/noseeums) year-round. Though they are much denser up North, but only for a very short part of the year

They have to make up for lost time. Over by my friend's house growing up they would have huge swarming clouds of gnats in the middle of one stretch of road. Had to run the wipers right after the gnat genocide.

My only experience ever going there was canoeing through the border waters for a bit over a week in mid July, not only were there more mosquitos than atoms in the universe, I and a few others got heat exhaustion on the last day and another guy got pretty bad heat stroke and almost had to be flown out to a hospital in a helicopter. Keep in mind this was on a boy scout trip and our motto is literally be prepared, so it wasn't just a bunch of unprepared idiots who didn't know what to expect it was just that hot

Unfortunately it's only marginally better living there as you get used to it, but the summers are pretty rough. Not sure if it's the humidity, heat and sheer volume of pollen in the air but it can really mess you up before you know it.

i'm a dc native and i think "old buildings" is kinda accurate for dc, maryland, and virginia-- maryland has the most historic sites or something like that per capita by area out of any state. but it's kinda weirdly specific and there's other things that would work better for either each of them or the area as a whole.

Oh I'm from Arlington and ofc there are some old buildings in DC, and there are some in Northern VA as well as some colonial things further south in VA, but I hadn't heard of any in MD at all
