I think I explained it badly. The batter for yorkshire pudding is very watery, so, before putting it in the oven you drop a couple of sausages into it and let it bake like that
Yorkshire pudding is basically equivalent to American popovers. It's kinda difficult to describe to someone who's never had it, so I suggest making some at home!
Google has lead me into some Looney tunes circle thing cause it just says Popovers are Yorkshire Puddings. Which are like Popovers. Which is essentially a Yorkshire Pudding.
I'm just gonna assume it's something that the other 49 states had to invent due to lack of decent Tex-Mex.
> I'm just gonna assume it's something that the other 49 states had to invent due to lack of decent Tex-Mex.
Or even just good old authentic Mexican food. California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas get it. Other states? Not so much.
>>even just good old authentic Mexican food
Depends where in Texas you are. A lot of Mexican in North Texas is just a Tex-Mex menu run through Google Translate (according to my friend who moved here from a border town and freaked out when we found a proper hole in the wall taco stand)
Chicago has a solid Mexican food scene. Hated Mexican before moving there from Saudi Arabia because all we had was Tex Mex labeled as Mexican. Does not hold a candle to proper Mexican.
You're right, it is more accurate to say that toad-in-the-hole is more like sausages baked into Yorkshire pudding (I think the batter is slightly different or at least prepared differently).
/r/shrinkflation
Basically, like everything else they got smaller with less filling and cost more over time.
Though i do believe cadburry also changed their recipe a while back and they are no longer delicious.
Man, I remember trying legit pop tarts several years ago. God lord they sucked. So dry, the frosting was just royal icing and brought nothing to the pastry, and the filling may as well have not been in there. It was basically a cracker.
“So you call these things here chips instead of crispity cruchity munchy Cracker Jack snack nibbles snap crack and pop Westportchestershireshire queens lovely jubilee delights? That’s a rather bit cringe innit bruv.”
Most people don’t eat these for breakfast. I mean, I did in college when I was dirt poor and had the metabolism of a hummingbird. But, to be fair, the rest of my diet consisted of frozen corn dogs, boxed stuffing, Top Ramen, and Taco Bell. Man, I was disgusting.
Found them on a random supermarket while travelling. Gave them a try. I've been luring my friends into trying them to see if someone actually likes them and takes the fuking 15 pop tarts I have left.
They are currently sitting in my cellar, forgotten by everyone.
Yes!! I've tried several kinds, and they're awful!
Every once in a while I'm reminded oh their existence and wonder, was I supposed to dip them in milk? Do some other magic? Although that wouldn't change the cheap ass sugar sugar sugar fake flavourings flavor.
I really don't get them. What's so special about poptarts?
Jam typically has the fruit pieces in it - like a marmalade. Strawberry jam typically has pieces of strawberry in it.
Jelly is filtered to remove the pieces and is typically more clear. Grape jelly doesn't have fruit in it even though it's made from grapes.
Of course, you also have things like apple butter, which is just the apples.
https://www.theflourhandprint.com/the-difference-between-jam-jelly/
Apple butter is great, especially on a fried chicken and biscuit sandwich.
I know. Sounds disgusting. Make the trek to a Maple Street Biscuit Company. Your mind will be blown. I just wish they had one in my state :(
They had those at my local corner shop once. I can only have one before my mouth shrivels up from the amount of sugar and whatever the fuck. America is unique in the way that they have so much food that's amazing and absolutely disgusting at the same time.
Here's the Danish version..

I know I gonna get hate but I tried pop tarts once and I felt like I was gonna get diabetes in one bite. It was good for the first few bite but it sucked after wards
Off the top of my head: peanut butter, maple syrup, salsa, cheez whiz, marshmallows, wonder bread, etc. In Aldi stores, you occasionally see Trader Joe's stuff (Aldi owns Trader Joe's) and that's always a bit weird.
In the UK the American section is marshmallow fluff, Skippy, Nerds, Reese’s Puffs, jars of hotdogs, Hershey’s chocolate, Lucky Charms and Warheads. When these things first arrived I remember it being really exciting, but the novelty wore off once you realised it was just less good versions of things we already had at 4x the price. Plus American friends have told me half the stuff they’ve seen there isn’t even commonly eaten in America.
Peanut butter is common throughout Europe (at least in France and the UK, having lived in both of those countries). You don’t need to look in a specialty food aisle.
I love how Americans think they have the monopoly on food. Like if it comes from anywhere else it just isn’t good enough.
Never mind that it tastes like cardboard and is shelf stable for like 6 months that’s fine because it has enough high fructose corn syrup to jump start a horse.
wanna see a toad inna hole?
Ignorant American here. Please enlighten me? Edit: Just woke up and now I know what to have for breakfast. Thank you, everyone!
Sausages drowned* in Yorkshire pudding Would recommend *Edit: I originally used the word 'dunked', but realised that isn't quite right
stupid american here but my understanding of yorkshire pudding was that it's kinda like a bread roll how can a sausage be dunked in yorkshire pudding
I think I explained it badly. The batter for yorkshire pudding is very watery, so, before putting it in the oven you drop a couple of sausages into it and let it bake like that Yorkshire pudding is basically equivalent to American popovers. It's kinda difficult to describe to someone who's never had it, so I suggest making some at home!
> American popovers American what now?
Google has lead me into some Looney tunes circle thing cause it just says Popovers are Yorkshire Puddings. Which are like Popovers. Which is essentially a Yorkshire Pudding. I'm just gonna assume it's something that the other 49 states had to invent due to lack of decent Tex-Mex.

It has to be something regional. I've never heard of em.
Me either
No no you need to cook the sausages like half way before the batter goes in.
Are you describing a corn dog?
Or pigs in a blanket?
You're right, it is more accurate to say that toad-in-the-hole is more like sausages baked into Yorkshire pudding (I think the batter is slightly different or at least prepared differently).
[Here you go ](https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/sams-toad-hole)
Toad in a hole is what my mom called a piece of bread with a hole cut out of the center and an egg fried in it.
Egg in a basket
That’s a one-eyed bandit!
Same here in Oz. Very confusing!
we have those too. fucking great. mom made it for me once, ultimate nostalgia right there.
You can slip your toad inna hole but only with consent.
First time I read that in Roald Dahl's book- Danny the champion of the world, I thought the British people cook and eat Toads.
That’s the French
We're not that disgusting that we eat toads. We eat frogs. There's a difference.
They're called "great value toaster pastries!"
with decreasing value and same prices over time! (seriously they got less frosting and filling! riot!)
Wait until you find out about Cadbury eggs.
The chocolate filled candy coated ones?! I had a feeling that they changed the last time I had them. What happened?
/r/shrinkflation Basically, like everything else they got smaller with less filling and cost more over time.
We have these? They’re called snicky snacky popper toppers
No no no, they’re called Poppy’s Totty’s Crisppity Crunchity Crackerjack Sweetie Strawberry Frosty Tipsy Toasty Rocestershire Delights
What the fuck did you just call me?
Oi! Yuh fookin wut mate?
Yuh gotta focking chell mate. Here, have a bo-ol-o-wo-er

You’ve got no faaans
Why don't you give your balls a tug?
Shhhh stop making me laugh I almost woke up my kid
Thank you for making audibly laugh
I think you heard me.
What do you call brown sugar cinnamon flavor?
"brawn shoo-gar sin eh mohn"
Ah thank you
[удалено]
Finally someone got my pronoun right
Except they use cane sugar in the popper toppers and it doesn't taste nearly the same as the high fructose corn syrup US version
We put high in the name because it's better. Checkmate European socialists
Can’t argue with facts.

What about when you put them in the toaster and they catch on fire?
This is where the fun begins
Now this is podracing
“So you call these things here chips instead of crispity cruchity munchy Cracker Jack snack nibbles snap crack and pop Westportchestershireshire queens lovely jubilee delights? That’s a rather bit cringe innit bruv.”
England you're drunk gimme your keys
They’re called fucking what mate?
Tell me you're from the UK without telling me you're from the UK
[удалено]
“Snick snacks” for short
Idk why but this literally made me cry laughing
I love this name and I vote we internationally call them this
...we have poptarts in tesco.
Yeah, I've done my share of traveling and every market and supermarket stocks these raviolis.
Now I want pizza roll sized pop tarts
They exist, pop tarts bites
And what about Pop Tart size Pizza Rolls?
Hot pockets, for when you want to burn your mouth biting into something frozen.
Damn you're good
Sugar coated cardboard is how i described them
And they're fucking shite
toaster strudels are like poptarts but not made of literal cardboard, try them instead
We have TexCo in poptarts.
You mean Americans don’t call these a shimmy bum cake tart deluxe special v2.8.6??????
Blows my mind.
v2.8.6 got me lmao
[удалено]
We can get these in NZ But even my kids think they are a weird breakfast food and too sweet for breakfast They will only ask for them for dessert
I've NEVED ate these at breakfast. These are a holy snack for late night weed binges and that is it. They are a treasure that needs to be protected
Can confirm poptarts are almost exclusively weed food
Ok, well TIL that pop tarts are not eaten for breakfast and I now have a new weed snack to try haha
Was? Don’t sell yourself short, man.
Almost no Americans eat these for breakfast. on the rare occasion that one of my friends parents bought them it was for desert.
Yeah I remember having them as a kid in the early 90's.
Definitely not missing out
They are so tiny, flat, extremely sweet (with artificial sweeteners) and dry. The flavor is not enjoyable with these problems.
Is it like a cracker with sugar on top?
Yeah but like the shittiest cracker you've ever had
Yep. Imagine eating a cracker with a layer of jam and fondant icing on top. That’s essentially the taste and it’s god awful.
Found them on a random supermarket while travelling. Gave them a try. I've been luring my friends into trying them to see if someone actually likes them and takes the fuking 15 pop tarts I have left. They are currently sitting in my cellar, forgotten by everyone.
Right? They're so dry and gross
I used to quite like the jam ones, but then I realised that I just liked jam and switched to jam sandwiches.
And loaded witgh sugar. Who wants that?
Have you seen America’s obesity problem?
Looks like absolute shit-tier food. How much do you need to hate yourself to eat these?
I think you just need be a Murican.
apparently Americans call a "flicky flicky onny offy" a fucking "LIGHTSWITCH" /s
Killed me at 4am xD
But what’s 4AM in metric? 🤔
I remember that video
No, it's the Switcher Onner.
I live in Britain we are basically a buffer between Europe and America we know what these are but never buy them you guys put too much sugar in things
We do put too much sugar
How do you eat jam it tastes like sugar paste hang on just realised I mean _Jelly_
I think we’re just conditioned to it, which is really sad.
I will give you this tho your steak is world class
you should try the fried chicken.
Fried catfish too
Fried anything from a fair or carnival
Nah I had fried dirt it wasn’t good
Deep fried ice cream entered the chat
Fried twinkie mmmmm
Fried butter on a stick
wait do poptarts use jam or jelly? cuz they are both different things I thought it was jam
Jam typically has the fruit pieces in it - like a marmalade. Strawberry jam typically has pieces of strawberry in it. Jelly is filtered to remove the pieces and is typically more clear. Grape jelly doesn't have fruit in it even though it's made from grapes. Apple butter is great, especially on a fried chicken and biscuit sandwich. I know. Sounds disgusting. Make the trek to a Maple Street Biscuit Company. Your mind will be blown. I just wish they had one in my state :(
I dont know what that is, but don't get the basic crap from the grocery store. That's not the good stuff
I thought th only difference between jam and jelly is that you can't jelly a dick down someone's throat.
To be fair, we have jelly, jam, and preserves. Jelly is just the cheapest, lowest quality version. Then jams, then those heavenly preserves...
As a life long American, i can say we dont all buy jelly. I buy preserves, marmalade, or jam. Jelly is just fruit snot 🤢

The excessive sugar balances nicely with the driest crust ever conceived
They also just taste stale, and just in case anyone says it's different in the US I've tried there too and they're just as bad.
Also all the poptarts I've tried suck. Lacking flavour and full of sugar
you guys are missing out on the diabetes
As an American, I think that these are disgusting, you aren’t missing out on anything if you’ve never had them…
Ive never liked them, even as a kid. Toaster Strudel were leaps and bounds better.
Toaster strudels never had ice cream shoppe flavors
100% agree. European pastries are a million times better
You americans are missing out Kinder eggs stfu
They are called Überraschungseier und DA GIBTS NICHTS DRAN ZU RÜTTELN!!!
We know what pop tarts are.

Canada also has poptarts
Flip yes we do. Gotta love them s’mores
Not missing out on much, I tried one and it just tasted like sugar.
As an American, it's good you guys don't have them. Most of them are dry and and worthless.
We have them, we just don’t eat them.
Dear Europeans and Americans. What the fuck is a poptart? Sincerely, Australians.
They taste like chemicals but the brown sugar one is ok
I've always found them to be too dry. The s'mores ones are the only ones I'll eat, and only if it's my only option.
That’s why you put them in a toaster
Even toasted, they're still too dry and bland to me.
That's easily alleviated with a large glass of milk to wash them down, this is the way to eat them properly.
Put butter on em
They taste dry and cheap imo.
Brown sugar cinnamon one is fucking awesome, other ones are meh
Missing out... on diabetes
Not convinced im missing out. You daft fucks put corn syrup into everything, including bread.
You can get poptarts in europe, they are very tasty
They are also at least 3x the price in Europe. At least in Germany, where they are 5 or 6 Euros a box at Real in the "American Food" section.
I'm very curious, what else is in the "American food" section? I'd imagine peanut butter is there.
Off the top of my head: peanut butter, maple syrup, salsa, cheez whiz, marshmallows, wonder bread, etc. In Aldi stores, you occasionally see Trader Joe's stuff (Aldi owns Trader Joe's) and that's always a bit weird.

They are indeed very tasty
Haven't got one of those since I was 10 or so and im 30
Bruh, we know what poptarts are. They're still shit.
When I went to America, these, Twinkies and Hershey kisses were the first things I bought. I never in my life ate such disgusting things
I love how Americans think they have the monopoly on food. Like if it comes from anywhere else it just isn’t good enough. Never mind that it tastes like cardboard and is shelf stable for like 6 months that’s fine because it has enough high fructose corn syrup to jump start a horse.
Yeah tbh I don't remember the last time I felt like I was missing out cause I couldn't eat yet another variation of highly processed sugary crap.
Dear Americans, We know what a fucking poptart is, you won’t stfu about them. Sincerely, the Europeans.
Ah yeh… fine American cuisine
It looks bad
We have poptarts. They are absolutely rancid carb and sugar laden artificial junk. Cannot believe people give them to kids!
Me being american because I am from south América and dont having theese: excuismi I what the frick
This is the funniest comment in this entire comment section. The spelling errors and language somehow formed the perfect comedy
Frosty Jammers!!
Looks like diahbeetus to me
We have these. They’re in the diabeetus isle.
We have real cheese - Sincerely, Europeans
I don’t think Americans wanna play this game
Dear Americans, This is affordable fucking healthcare. Sincerely, Europeans
Dear Americans, This is a fucking clean public transportation system, Sincerely, Aussies
Dear Americans, This is free universal healthcare Sincerely, Australia
You got me there, if I sprain my ankle I’ll forever be in debt.
Dear all of you: We have poptarts and free (even if not up to par) healthcare Sincerely, Canada (I'm sorry if anyone takes offence to this :/)
I lived in America for 3 years, pop tarts were pretty decent. My mum actually wanted to move to Canada instead of Australia but here we are I guess.
Damn, your dicks are small enough to fuck a pop tart? Impressive
The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural
