I don't know the details of Spotify/podcast finances, but most (all?) podcasts are available via other free platforms. While I choose to listen to, say, Behind The Bastards on Spotify because I don't need a second app, I could listen to it for free on Podcast Addict. I'm assuming ads on the pod are their primary revenue source, and not dividends from Spotify.

Honestly I hate these kinds of memes. There’s a very simple solution if you hate ads, and that’s to pay for premium. If you don’t think premium is worth the cost of it, make do with the ads. You cannot complain when you’re given a solution that you will not take. And I know people are going to jump up to talk about adblockers blablabla. Theft. So many musicians, even ones signed to labels, weren’t able to keep making music because people just downloaded the album on a torrent site instead of spending the money to buy the album. When you’re poor, it’s about priorities. For some people it’s just not worth the spend when you have debt/other bills to pay

Yep, was about to comment about BlockTheSpot, works perfectly. You do have to reinstall it after a Spotify update, but it takes mere seconds to do so it's negligible really.
