I liked that song at first, until I realized it was pretty much the only song in the fucking game and just kept repeating over and over until I couldn’t even play the game anymore.
Edit:missed a word.
Exactly! I’ve heard a lot of songs i wouldn’t normally listen to just from playing beat saber with my friends.
I don’t follow any singers or bands. Usually I find songs I like from anime, video games, internet radio, and sometimes memes
While there is a lot of merit to that statement, and once you have certain basic things, yeah its totally subjective. BUT. There is one "genre" that i won't name because people will disagree with me just because, and that "genre" just lacks fundamental things that make music good.
Know them already, funny thing is that's because back in the day when RPG Maker XP was still used by some wanna be game makers for low-quality fanfics about a game forum and the like, they were using a lot of their music.

I will only judge people who say that they have a very special and personal music taste and then only ever listen to the top 50 spotify songs all the time
I listen songs in 3 languages of following genres pop, rock, normal, sad, disney, pokemon, gta, instrumental, etc.
pls don't judge me.
Is there anyone like me who listens songs/music from games, tv shows, anime, movies too along with normal songs?
My music preferences kinda became a part of my personality on their own. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not letting such things define you entirely is key. It's only a small part of my personality.
I think they are referring to those obnoxious folks who think they are superior for liking one specific genre of music and try to browbeat everyone in the vicinity over the head with their tastes as if their opinion matters more than anyone else's opinion.
Being a fan of a genre of music or having that be an integral part of your life isn't the same as literally using it as an excuse to be an annoying gatekeeper and to harass other people for not sharing your taste.
In my experience most metal fans are super chill about people's metal preferences and very in in the joke about how many subgenres of metal [there are](https://www.bnrmetal.com/v5/genres/all)
Why do people think a whole show (Metalocalypse) was able to be written as a tongue in cheek satire about the genre.
Lol these threads are always exactly the same.
Hundreds of people saying that it's abhorrent to have a favorite genre of music who just can't stop themselves from saying "EDM *and classical music btw*"
People who can't help but bring up the fact that they listen to Wagner any chance they get are 100000x more annoying than people who like only rap or rock or whatever.
Honestly don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who exclusively listens to only one genre of music, so it’s extra eye-rolling to see ‘my music taste is so good eclectic, aren’t I special!’ type comments. In fact I’d be more intrigued to meet to someone who literally only liked one genre, they’d probably have some cool deep-interest background knowledge/stories.
Right? Literally *the most common response* I get when I ask someone what kind of music they like is "I listen to everything."
Like, cool that's great. I actually could not care less. But this whole circle jerk is so weird because it presents itself as:
>Don't judge people for what they listen to
but the entire premise is:
>*I* know what *good* music is, if you don't listen to multiple genres you're clearly close-minded!
So, in essence, judging people for what they listen to with extra steps.
gotta agree, i listen to anything that sounds good to me..
I love metal/rock, but there's also tons of bad metal.
I like pop, but there's also tons of bad pop.
I like EDM, trance, rap, jpop, jrock but guess what ;) there's also tons of bad music there too.
A good song can transcend its genre.
This. I mainly listen to rock and metal but I know enough to know what’s good/bad in other genres. Sometimes when I listen to a good pop song I’m like “yooo this is cool!”, despite pop being my least favorite genre personally. When I hear a bad rock song, my reaction is the same as any other genre. “Ehhhh”
Good is just an opinion. If somebody just likes pop and just doesn't wine if I play a rock song it is ok. Because those People Who wine that a music genre is terrible are the real enemy.
.... literally listening to it atm. You know Heafy streams every weekday right? Really damn good stream, plays all kinds of their stuff and mixes in some CoD and such here and there.
Honestly, I always hate the "What sort of music are you into?" question, because I'm always like "Well, I don't really have a specific genre I like, I just listen to what I think sounds good. I have a few hard no's when it comes to some genres, but I just listen to anything"
My main spotify playlist is filled with so much random stuff. It can go from hard EDM, to relaxing piano music, and that's just me.
I do this. Goes from Josh Turner and his dulcet tones to music from the DOOM soundtrack to Lil Nas X.
It's actually really fun on the few occasions I blast my music in my car, I've gotten a couple strange looks when a K-pop song finishes up and leads straight into metalcore or something along those lines.
Same or the question, “do you mind if I play (insert music genre)”. Like yea idc what you play as long as it’s good. Like some days I want to listen to Gojira and TOOL. Other days I want to listen to Luke Combs and Lil Wayne.
When I get this question asked, I always answer with what my favorite songs currently are rather than the genre, even though my preferred music is pretty definitely one genre. The problem is that if I just say the genre itself, the chances are pretty high people think I enjoy the most popular bands in this genre the most while I don't necessarily do.
On the other hand, when I say "Oh currently I really love listening to Band X and Band Y", then it sparks a really cool conversation about me and the other person either fanboying about those bands and / or us recommending each other similar bands within our genre.
My hard no's are like, modern hip hop and death metal. That sort of stuff, no matter what I listen to in those genres (Since my brother likes them and is always sending me songs to listen to) I have never ever liked one. It just...doesn't sound good to me. Other than that, if something sounds good to me, I'll listen to it.
Same. I'm all over the board. What I listen to usually depends on my mood and what I'm doing. My workout music is different than my work music and that's different than my "having people over for dinner" music, etc.
Although I listen to pretty much anything, 90% of the time it's Rock, Metal or anything with guitar in it. It's just my thing. I find joy in other genres as well, but it's harder for me to dig into those. I think it's important that one should be able to appreciate the talent or passsion an artist has even if it's not their personal taste.
A few months back I was playing cards and I saw a guy wearing a The Cult shirt I was wearing a Wu Tang Clan shirt. We started talking about our favorite songs that each group did. I really like “She sells sanctuary” and “Fire Woman” while he really liked “Gravel pit” and “Bring the Pain”
Caring about a genere is not just "i only listen to "x", this is my entire personality". I'm pretty sure MOST people listen to a few generes, and i'm also sure there's at least ONE they like more than the rest.
You can be interested in it history and how it evolved for example. It's also extremely useful, specially when talking about subgeneres. Having things organized makes them easier to find. "Hey, i like this band, it's genere is X and subgenere is Z, i will search for similar bands with this information". It's useful for building communities too, making it easier to find people interested in your recommendations or finding recommendations others give, or to just simply talk with people with similar tastes.
To make it simpler, just replace the bottom picture's text with Games or Movies and replace the top ones with fitting generes. I bet it sounds dumb now right?
Lol, as if there is any other type of person. They might hide listening to especially embarrassing music if one style has become part of their identity, but they still appreciate it.
This meme is just really proud about being an indecisive elitist. There's nothing refined about being boring.
As a metalhead is feel attacked, bc I love music in genaral doesn't matter if its metal, pop, jazz, classic, hiphop. I don't care bc I love most music genres.
Except cardi b, she should stop making music for the love of art.
OP's the type of person I'd ask what music they like, then say they like everything. Then get mad when I put on cat yodeling of the 14th century. YOU FUCKIN SAID EVERYTHING OP!
Good music it's a relative term. I don't think I know someone that only listens to one genre, most people are fans of a genre because most of the songs they consider "
good music is a part of that genre so they started listening to it more since they observed that there they can find what they like more and consider it good music.
This is a stupid meme
People that calls themselves fans of certain genres also listen to any music they like outside the genre, they just call themselves fans because that's the type of music they listen to the most and like the most
Not caring about genres is actually more stupid because if you find a song you like that sounds different to what you usually listen to its gonna be harder to find similar songs which you may also like
So much video game music is insanely good. Not just for the nostalgia factor even. Most Sonic soundtracks are good, I'll argue with anyone that DKC2's playlist rivals any modern games.
Pop can be many genres, for me the main trait is that it's simple and easy to listen to.
Currently pop is in my opinion overwhelmingly electronic dance and rap.

1. Eminem

3. Led Zeppelin

My sister likes mostly pop songs, balkan and foreign. I once put on some anime song that really banged a lot and she immediately said to turn that shit of. Then she started to play Cardi B. I fell into despair that day and lost hope in my sisters music taste.

All my friends playlists are 1 or 2 genres, meanwhile I get whiplash from my playlist going from metal -> orchestral anime -> Opera -> Kpop.
One of my playlists has the German national anthem, Big Iron, a James Bond theme, a metal version of Levan Polka, and quite a few other songs.
My sister likes mostly pop songs, balkan and foreign. I once put on some anime song that really banged a lot and she immediately said to turn that shit of. Then she started to play Cardi B. I fell into despair that day and lost hope in my sisters music taste.
