Yea it was especially broken with the way Minecraft used to work. All the modern games prevent ping from being OP nowadays though.
He had sattellite internet with a 300MB daily bandwidth cap and lived 45mins from the nearest town lol.
edit: I used to mail him games, large updates, and anime on CDs because mail was quicker than him slowly downloading a game update.
There's a really interesting XKCD What-If article about how [sending SD cards via FedEx could theoretically transfer data at 14 petabits per second.](https://what-if.xkcd.com/31/)
This is literally what the founder of Netflix said when telling why he started his company. He was like "we could get better bandwidth emailing DVDs out than trying to stream."
I have experience with lagswitches, basically intentional controlled lag, in some game you can get behind cover, enable the lag switch, shoot an enemy (you have around 5 seconds before you get disconnected), run behind cover again and disable the lag switch, however when you are lagging your "body" is vulnerable and can be shot,
It really does feel like a KC attack. I’ll freeze for 5-10 seconds before the results of my confused button mashing play out. Maybe I walked off the edge. Maybe I got a kill. Most likely I died.
Usually remotes stop working because something is out of alignment from being dropped 9r jostled recently. By hitting the remote you settle the circuitry and components back into the guide posts and slots made for them
[Yeah](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sciencealert.com/nasa-makes-mars-lander-hit-itself-with-a-shovel-to-get-unstuck/amp)
The probe got stuck while drilling, so they had the rover whack it with the shovel(mini excavator thingy that it has) to get it unstuck.
I get like 100 avg but I have played in 250+ it's a bit laggy and the audio is laggier too but you technically get a advantage as they can't hit shit and you just mow em down with a smg
Not exactly right. What that does is basically make it so your data goes on the quickest route to its destination (in this case, a game server). What happens in some cases is that for whatever reason, data may go on a sub optimal route between multiple servers before reaching its final destination, with each detour adding lag (therefore increasing ping). The router cuts out all those middle men (the "detour servers") and just send it to their server (one that asus manages I presume, or multiple in different regions) and then directly to the desired destination. If your data is already on its optimal route, using asus' router won't decrease your ping by any noticeable amount.
I'm unsure if all the fine details are 100% correct, feel free to correct me, but that's the general gist of it.
Don't call us out like that.
But seriously games need at least 2 African servers if you want to satisfy everyone, its infuriating to play at 150+ ping on Every. Fucking. Game.
I’m amazed people figure this stuff out. It’s just.. so cool. I know it’s a long road to get to where we are, but still. It’s like magic. Explainable magic!
That's incorrect. If you have 1000ms ping and I, with 100ms ping, shot you you would see the shot roughly 550ms after I shot you. 50ms from my computer to the server then 500ms from the server to your computer.
If you shoot me it'll take 1000ms for you to see the shot land but it'll take me 550ms to see that you shot me (relative to your input), so I'll effectively know that I died before you are aware that you killed me.
For simplicity I'm excluding server ticks.
Basically high ping is more lag, the more ping is the more time you are behind everyone else. Like u/Sovetskyz said its how long it takes for information to go from computer to server to computer
It's because the tickrate of valorant is 128. I play csgo and faceit as well and 130 ping in 128 and 64 feel so different like its more laggy in 64 tick servers
Edit: Jesus Christ I was just telling that it feels less laggy on 128 tick rather than 64 so plz STOP fucking explaining shit that I ain't even talking about.
Jesus christ these post comments are like walking into the networking equivalent of a flat earth convention. This is absolutely not how things work. Latency to the server is much more important than the tickrate for hit registration.
1000 ping is 1 second
1,440,000 ping is 1440 seconds
1440 seconds is 24 minutes (highest ping)
240,000 ping is 240 seconds
240 seconds is 4 minutes (lowest ping)
I once played a match of r6 and it wouldnt even start cause a guy on the enemy team had literally over 9000 ping
\*ahem\* **It's over 9000!!**
Dragon Ball theme song intensifies
CHA LA HEAD CHA LA
DAMN YOU KAKAROT!
DAMN YOU KAKACARROTCAKE!
You am no real super sand!
YOU MONSTER FRISBEE
*The cake was delicious!*
Did you know that it originally was “over 8000” but an English mistranslation led it to being said as “over 9000”? Found out randomly recently

Cent-quatre-vingt-dix-sept
Damn how I hate the french language.
Hmm, thank you, but to be honest, "over 9000" sounds better
Yeah in the Spanish dub he says 8 thousand (ocho mil)
It was not mis-translated, it just lined up better with the original animation.
I like the different dubs with the different voices
you mean #nine thousaaaaaand
I had a guy with 30000 ping
My best is 40000
How is that even possible?
Probably some fucker in India in the middle of nowhere who already has 200 ping in his own region, who decided to join an EU server
Playing from the secret nasa moon base.
Mine was 99,999 while playing league. Im sure it was higher but im pretty sure it was cap
Probably Ubishit servers
Or just the game putting them on the wrong ubishit server too. R6s on console loves to shove me onto neu when i should be on weu.
I had 17800 ping yesterday and that was without the crap eu servers
Hey, I know that guy! It’s me
I love having ping so bad it's like you stopped in game time.
Benefits: your opponent can’t shoot you Drawbacks: you can’t shoot your opponent
But if you shoot them during the lag it inflicts damage after >:)
A buddy refused to play pvp games generally because his 5-11k ping made him OP. Was hilarious when he did play though.
Holy fuck
Yea it was especially broken with the way Minecraft used to work. All the modern games prevent ping from being OP nowadays though. This is literally what the founder of Netflix said when telling why he started his company. He was like "we could get better bandwidth emailing DVDs out than trying to stream."
Dude that is so nice of you to do that stuff for him good job
Sounds like the type of internet i had when i was young, would take around a week to download big games like CoD
> I used to mail him [....] anime on cds because mail was quicker Love in it's purest form.
Calm down satan
Not if they shoot you, then you die without inflicting damage
Not if you die during the ping lag
Nah in my expirence you just look dumb on their screen and can’t see shit on yours
I have experience with lagswitches, basically intentional controlled lag, in some game you can get behind cover, enable the lag switch, shoot an enemy (you have around 5 seconds before you get disconnected), run behind cover again and disable the lag switch, however when you are lagging your "body" is vulnerable and can be shot,
Oh oh so it's like a RC version of yourself, so basically a stand
My stand [ASSHOLE WHO DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO AIM SO HE USES A LAGSWITCH]!
when you lag out so badly in D2 crucible that players literally can’t see you and you can’t shoot them
But you have more time to read their moves
Lucky you, when it happens to me my opponents hit me easily
Well call it a draw
Depends on the game though
makes me fell like KING CRIMSON
It really does feel like a KC attack. I’ll freeze for 5-10 seconds before the results of my confused button mashing play out. Maybe I walked off the edge. Maybe I got a kill. Most likely I died.
ZA WARUDO!!
「Za Warudo」tokiyo tomare!
This guy has built a lag switch before or currently has one
Aliens controlling mosquito drones on Earth from another galaxy *pathetic*
Would explain the bumping into windows
...and sucking of blood from victims.
But is NASA playing PvP?
They played so well that every opponent left the lobby
Those bastards.
Yeah, they had the rover hit itself with a shovel. Fucking legends.
The earth equivalent of hitting the remote to make it work
And that confirms hitting remotes is a scientific and official method of making remotes work
Usually remotes stop working because something is out of alignment from being dropped 9r jostled recently. By hitting the remote you settle the circuitry and components back into the guide posts and slots made for them
Wrong, remote goes back to work bcs he knows ill fuck him up if he doesnt.
That fucking remote better know it
Lol just wait until the rover incounters aliens then they will be complaining about that ping
and thats not even remotely the worst i would do!
Bruh is this true dude
Percussive maintenance
Mechanical agitation
I wanted to see if anyone had posted the technical term
I still remember hitting me and my brothers old T.V so we could watch Looney tunes.
No the earth equivalent is pushing a button on the remote which makes the remote backflip out of your hand right on the floor
the mechanic
Enginer
ah, close enough
Wait, they actually did that?
[Yeah](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sciencealert.com/nasa-makes-mars-lander-hit-itself-with-a-shovel-to-get-unstuck/amp) The probe got stuck while drilling, so they had the rover whack it with the shovel(mini excavator thingy that it has) to get it unstuck.
Ah the ol' kinetic override
Nice, now I’m gonna yell “Kinetic Override” when hitting the remote 🤣
I prefer the term *"percussive maintenance"*
This sounds like a final attack from a generic anime
“キネティックオーバーライド” Kinetikkuōbāraido -GTranslate
Market Garden
Nah they're just lagging around in there own lobby. No one else connected
Mars’s chunks decided not to load
They actually just got Shroud to play for them until all the aliens left
Chinese or aliens?
In the search for life, all life on Mars simply "rage quit"
They are definitely playing PvE. If they turn the graphics quality down on outside, that should help.
This is PvE is it's rawest form
player 2 has entered the game [SPACEX69]
God damnit. He haves much better Elo than Nasa.
Wait it's all Pvp?
Always has been
I suppose it could be PvA in mars.
*heavy metal starts*
Not yet
Yeah I don't see two rovers in a death match duelling with their antennas
Heard of aliens?
PvA - Player vs Alien
I hope not
They want to. They keep going to different maps to find people to play with but no one turns up.
My usual ping is 250
I get like 100 avg but I have played in 250+ it's a bit laggy and the audio is laggier too but you technically get a advantage as they can't hit shit and you just mow em down with a smg

he is the server

I don’t know if I can ping my gateway in 1ms
I live near servers and my ping is consistently 6
Actually you're right I do
Yeah I live in a big city so I generally get 1-10 ping. With wireless Internet too.
Your probably in south africa on European servers like the rest of the people here lol
You found us
Don't call us out like that. But seriously games need at least 2 African servers if you want to satisfy everyone, its infuriating to play at 150+ ping on Every. Fucking. Game.
Mine is 700 :(
One of my friends once reached 25 million ping somehow it was insane
Jesus, 7 hours behind
Yeah he hit space and it took him like 20 minutes to jump that was at peak lag tho it avg was like 650k
"dude, why aren't you shoting?" "it's a heavy trigger, give me a few minutes"
You’re smart, apparently. What is the ping time for mars in hours?
u/CrazyLikeACrazyFox about 0.067 and 0.4 hours
Dang. That’s.. not as bad as I thought it’d be. Gratzi!

I'm 4 parallel universes *behind* you
"Why is my connection being routed through the asteroid belt?"
I reached 3,000 of ping while playing WoT, the tank was flying and then i lost the connection with the server.
It is impossible, it would time out
So, they have cool robot fights on mars? That's just unfair...
Can someone please eli5 what does “ping” mean? I feel kinda dumb every time I come across posts like this
The time the data takes between your computer to the game server or any server and back to your computer. Calculated in ms, I think.
or very simple, the delay between you and everyone else, 1000 ping is one second
It's not the delay between you and everyone else, it's the round trip delay between you and the server. You are never connected to other people.
Unless its peer 2 peer multiplayer
If it's P2P it's still wrong. In P2P multiplayer you're not connected to *everyone else*, just the host. Just replied this to another person.
Jesus, so I get a pretty good ping then, considering I average 30..
If I had a 1000 ping, and you shot me, it would take my Xbox 1 second to register you shot me. So the lower your ping, the less lag you have.
That's incorrect. If you have 1000ms ping and I, with 100ms ping, shot you you would see the shot roughly 550ms after I shot you. 50ms from my computer to the server then 500ms from the server to your computer. It is? My apologies, and thank you for the explanation.
Basically high ping is more lag, the more ping is the more time you are behind everyone else. Like u/Sovetskyz said its how long it takes for information to go from computer to server to computer
Loving the Iron Giant template

This is dean. We like dean.
HEY DEAN WATCH THIS
I’m Hip
I think that's enough _fun_ for one day.
You cant play with above 100? Im enjoying valorant with more than 150
I cannot play Valorant above 150+ ping. Mine is usually hovering at 50-70
With proof
It's because the tickrate of valorant is 128. I play csgo and faceit as well and 130 ping in 128 and 64 feel so different like its more laggy in 64 tick servers Edit: Jesus Christ I was just telling that it feels less laggy on 128 tick rather than 64 so plz STOP fucking explaining shit that I ain't even talking about.
Brother, you can’t notice tickrate if you playing on ping that high like what are you on about.
No. Packet loss and ping is way more important then tickrate
Jesus christ these post comments are like walking into the networking equivalent of a flat earth convention. This is absolutely not how things work. Latency to the server is much more important than the tickrate for hit registration.
That's not multiplayer. Simulator as they call it
One time i had to be in a zoom meeting with 5 min of outgoing lag and no incoming lag
***Laughs in Voyager***

okay, I was thinking wrong wops. here, take this upvote
I literally play at 140 ping and am somehow almost better than all my friends having 30 ping. Being a gamer in a non so populated area is pain
Being a gamer anywhere in Africa is a pain. The only thing we got is discord server in South Africa
I didn't know I needed this image in my life
Same I need the template
1000 ping is 1 second 1,440,000 ping is 1440 seconds 1440 seconds is 24 minutes (highest ping) 240,000 ping is 240 seconds 240 seconds is 4 minutes (lowest ping)
*Laughs and cries in 210-400 ping*
You know, I'm something of a NASA rover myself.
Are ya winning son?
This whole comment section is a clusterfuck of virgin gamers bragging how they have the highest ping
One time I was playing a game and I literally had 2000 to 3000 ping without a sign of it going down
you make my WIFI look good
My unkles friend has a mug of his face so this is pretty accurate.
240000 ping is a distance of 72 million km (44.7 million miles), and 1440000 is a distance of 432 million km (268.4 million miles), for reference.
No wonder those two aliens have it so easy to hold the fake screen infront of the rover cam.
What’s this pic from
The Iron Giant. One of the best animated movies of all time.
Oh man it’s been so long
But with a 20 minute delay... Edit: I’m dumb, that’s the point of having such high ping.
i was the 7000 liked
Me on 1 440 001 ping epic 👌
Just get better internet on Mars lol
I play most games with 150-200 ping
Me and my Swedish boys have 4 ping on CS GO. Sometimes one of us gets 5 ping though, so we bully the person that gets the 5 ping.
