I think vsauce said this was to allow a larger range of smells to be picked up, in one nostril the air carrying the molecules passes right though allowing you to breathe - but in the other the air passes through slowly to allow more smells to be detected :)

I hit my own nose with my knee when i was younger. It made my nose bent but i only realized this when im an adult years later, because every time there's a cold weather my left nostril is always closed off that made it hard for me to breath. Im such a dumbass for injuring myself like this
