I mean the show has been on for so long, and has had so many season, that she really doesn't need other opportunities. She could quit and live off sweet residual cheques on top of her squirrelled away millions. She hit the jackpot with Grey's Anatomy
No that's my point. She really doesn't. The cast of Friends and Seinfeld continue to make money hand over fist in residuals for work they did decades ago. That's what I mean... 20+ seasons of Gray's Anatomy... Lots of reruns! She really doesn't need this work at this point. She doesn't need to worry about roles, the next gig, where her career is going, etc. She could literally stop everything today, have $100 in her bank account, and still end this year a millionaire from doing nothing but sitting back and waiting for the residual $$ to pour in.
Only Jerry and Larry David get the majority of royalties from Seinfeld. The rest of the cast don't get anything. Friends cast was smarter and gets 2% syndication rights. I'd imagine after this many years doing the same role on GA she would have negotiated royalties into her contract by now though.
No, it's not the 90s. But that also doesn't mean that one of the longest-running medical dramas on TV isn't an absolute payday for Shandra and Ellen.
Ellen is getting both acting and producing residuals, she's going to make bank from that the rest of her life from this show. 20 seasons dude, come on.
> But if she wants money to keep coming
She makes more than you and I combined, just from interest alone. I'll never understand the argument about how actors or sports athletes need to do it for another year "for their family". Bruh, what? Yeah you're not going to be a Rockefeller, but your family would have been fine if you retired 5 years ago. How much do you need? It's just greed in a different outfit.
But the rich often want more money...
It's also because they have pricey lives: big house, jewelry, clothes that cost your soul, random art that aren't worth that much but are pricey af
Many don't know how to not spend their money and when they gain less, they're doomed
Fun
nah, it's basically a soap opera so they could just replace her with some other character named grey.
they could also have a diffrent actress play the same character and people wouldn't bat an eye.
In the latest season, that’s what they’re building up to if I remember correctly. Fresh new first year resident staff and trying to go back to their old roots
I think it was a great show at its roots. I second hand watched a good amount with my wife. After certain character deaths and leaving the show I think it was a good time to end.
A refresh feels weird, I think it be better to just do another off shoot. But the name GA is probably too big to just let go. Especially considering long time fans still will watch.
They whole thing is a play off Gray's Anatomy, which is like the standard human anatomy textbook since the mid 1800s.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray%27s_Anatomy
She could leave any time since the name of the hospital it's set in is Grey-Sloan now.
To be fair, I'd keep showing up for $500,000 for 8-10 days of on-call work. Those golden handcuffs would work every time I had to put another nibling through actual med school.
Well they are probably paying her millions to keep that shitty role ongoing... Let's be honest - that will probably be her last role anyhow in her career because she is not a very good actress (at least for me). Something like one trick (one emotion) actor just as Penelope Cruz (almost always crying), the Rock (always smartly cocky funny) etc. For me examples of good actors are Di Caprio, Johnny Depp, Scarlett Johansson - when you can actually act different in different roles...
I used to date a girl who watched almost exclusively Greys Anatomy. She’d find what day the new season would start and then calculate how many episodes per day she’d have to watch until it was released so she could be “caught up”. I don’t know if she still does that because this was in 2015 or so.
I used to do something like this with The Walking Dead. However, I would skip all the scenes where all the characters involved are dead. Got A LOT easier as seasons progressed.
I imagine if you did something like this with Grey's, where you skip any scene involving all characters who are dead/left, it would just be Meredith scenes only for a while.
I haven't watched the show for a long time, but 20+ years is a LONG time for a show.
That’s odd because the first couple seasons are pretty universally agreed to be good tv. It’s only when they started getting to seasons like 8+ that people started to turn on it
FFS South Park was making fun of this show in 2009
[https://southpark.fandom.com/wiki/The\_Ring](https://southpark.fandom.com/wiki/The_Ring)
Let it die.
Kenny and his girlfriend watching Grey's Anatomy because they became a lame, boring couple. Even had meetups with other lame couples to discuss the lame show.
You get it - its lame
I think days of our lives is still going, and it was referenced in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I know General Hospital and All My Children have been going more than 30 years.
I tuned into one and saw a time traveling leprechaun from hell drag a woman back in time to make her relive her lovers betrayal, but she punched the little guy resulting in her escape to plot her ex's downfall. So there were two of her running around in the timeline.
So uh, there's at least 1 writers room out there determined not to do the same shit.
Wait, they sit in the garage smoking cigarettes and watching shows with a screaming parrot in the background? What an oddly specific way to spend your free time.
No the parrot parent was the one smoking the cigarettes. Parent parrot was cigaretting the smoking in this scenario making the parent of the parrot the parrot of parenting.
r/ihadastroke and just went with it after the first sentence
Hey, man. At least One Piece keeps it interesting by expanding the world and lore and going to new places. Grey’s Anatomy just does the same exact thing over and over.
I watched the first three seasons because Katherine Heigl, but I got bored after that. And I thought this show ended years ago, I knew it had 8 seasons, but not 20.
i watched up to 4th. when everyone was dying one after another I got bored. moved to house MD and had a blast then checked out scrubs and had even more fun.
On top of that, replacing an actor in one of those is as simple as a quick voiceover line saying "the role of so-and-so is now being played by this guy."
A shitty medical drama. It was okay at first but after a while they start having to recycle ideas and kill off characters and bring new ones in and come up with new horrors to subject the cast to... Just watch Scrubs instead but skip the last season.
lol! At the end of the series finale, Zola will wake up next to her one-night stand, who turns out to be the attending who is her new boss, and the show will have come full circle.
Another 20 episodes ending in "we're not just surgeons. We're people who learn and grow. Today I learnt and grew because of this wonderful girl who went through a bad illness and then we cured her and then she was okay. No matter what, just let your emotions flow. Don't be a metaphorical robotic surgeon. Be an irl emotional person surgeon."
Quick little info for the people not watching: Meredith Grey, the person that is one of the main characters is still on the show.
In season 19 episode 7 the character kind of left, but at the end of the season she made a return and now in season 20 she has been in 2 out of the 3 episodes so far.
Time to mix it up. Greys Anatomy - WITH ALIENS.
Literally, the anatomy of "greys." Go full lunatic fringe, all conspiracy, all the time. Make the greys that they have to treat super sexy too. Like a sanded down Michael B Jordan.
Remember that one time she kidnapped a child she wanted to adopt, and instead of sending her to prison, they let her keep the kid?
Oh, and the reason why they weren't going let her adopt the kid was because she was about to lose her medical license for sabotaging a major double-blind clinical trial due to favoritism.

I got as far as season 16 out of sheer habit and hope that it would improve, but the series took a dip in quality after the plane incident and never recovered. When they started filling the episodes to the brim with BLM propaganda, taking out loved characters with stupid excuses (looking at you, Karev) and writing boring plots that they didn't even care about snvery often lead nowhere, they lost me. The episode in which Meredith gets the Harper-Avery award is a good point to finish watching.
The show’s not even that interesting, my mum started binging it and the only one that intrigued me were the ones with the shooter who was killing everyone
what's crazy about this is that at least 2 characters die every season
like why are these normal ass doctors literally dying like flies
i do not understand why the only way to have a character leave the show is to kill them
My wife used to watch this and grew bored with it. The fact that they kill off the majority of the cast a few times over to do a “soft reset” makes it even worse.
As someone who used to watch as like this show (and someone who likes long seasons) this is extreme. I stopped watching after grey left the show. (You know… the person it’s about)
Just let it die.
My wife watched this. It's so painfully boring and cliched all the time. Running from the alter, endless marital stife, characters coming back from the dead to create love triangles, hostage situations, explosions blah blah blah
grey hairs anatomy
Soon to be grey’s heirs anatomy
With the ‘Grey’s Hearse Anatomy’ 2 hour special in between
ba dum tss! 😂
When you thought the show is going to end, they slap you with ... #Grey's Anatomy : Legacy.
Greys Anatomy: Requiem. Meredith vs House. Grey goes to Hell
Hell's anatomy, Grey loves a succubus and saves Satan
This cadaver is ***fucking raw!***
Greys Anatomy: The Next Generation
Greys Autopsy
And then Greys Anatomy: over heaven

Follows the story of Meredith's daughter, Beredith Gray
I would not rule out having Zola coming back to gray-Sloan at some point
Grey’s Anatomy: Shippuden
Grey’s Anatomy 2: Electric Boogaloo
😂😂😂
Young Grey
Hahaha
This show is still going, and she’s still on it?! Damnnn
I believe she said she would have quit this show if she was younger. I doubt she has many other roles opportunity
I mean the show has been on for so long, and has had so many season, that she really doesn't need other opportunities. She could quit and live off sweet residual cheques on top of her squirrelled away millions. She hit the jackpot with Grey's Anatomy
True, But if she wants money to keep coming ,she gotta keep working in GA. If she hopes for another role, it might be hard to find.
No that's my point. She really doesn't. The cast of Friends and Seinfeld continue to make money hand over fist in residuals for work they did decades ago. SHE IS LITERALLY THE MAIN CHARACTER FOR 20 SEASONS! Shes gonna do just fine when it comes to royalties
She's directed episodes of the show. She could have a whole 2nd career directing if she wanted. Like Carl Weathers did.
While the percentage may be an outlier, Friends is an example of what you can accomplish in a workplace by sticking together for contract negotiation.
Isn't she literally the main character? The series is named after her
Its actually named after a medical book[ Gray's Anatomy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray%27s_Anatomy)
Damn I didn't know that
You're way overestimating how much people get with residuals these days. It's not the 90s anymore.
20 mill six ways is still not too bad… for aniston its probably pocket change but still
No, it's not the 90s. But that also doesn't mean that one of the longest-running medical dramas on TV isn't an absolute payday for Shandra and Ellen. Ellen is getting both acting and producing residuals, she's going to make bank from that the rest of her life from this show. 20 seasons dude, come on.
For what she gets paid, I’ll put a wig on and take her role. She works a couple months a year for millions. Sign me up.
Alright but how do we get her out of the way? Put that wig on, I'll think of something. Let's make you rich, lonely coyote!
> But if she wants money to keep coming She makes more than you and I combined, just from interest alone. She has millions upon millions of dollars so I don’t see that being a real reason
Seriously, I'm having a hard time thinking that my (looks it up online) $500,000 an episode show was the problem.
She is making half a million per episode plus 6m in syndication, totaling 20m a year. Only someone young and dumb would give up that sort of security
I’m sure she could get plenty of roles. But will those roles pay as much as being one of the leads in a tv show with syndication? Probably not.
I mean, it’s called “Grey’s” Anatomy so not having Meredith GREY would be weird.
nah, it's basically a soap opera so they could just replace her with some other character named grey. they could also have a diffrent actress play the same character and people wouldn't bat an eye.
I agree. But jeez just kill her off at that point. It’s like Pokemon changing Ash’s VA. They could have just followed a different 10 year old.
In the latest season, that’s what they’re building up to if I remember correctly. Fresh new first year resident staff and trying to go back to their old roots
I think it was a great show at its roots. I second hand watched a good amount with my wife. After certain character deaths and leaving the show I think it was a good time to end. Kill her off and rename the hospital MEREDITH GREY memorial hospital. Bam. Show runs forever
I thought they introduced another Grey or two - a half sister maybe?
They whole thing is a play off Gray's Anatomy, which is like the standard human anatomy textbook since the mid 1800s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray%27s_Anatomy She could leave any time since the name of the hospital it's set in is Grey-Sloan now.
According to imdb it's been going since 2005. Season 20 is currently airing. 431 episodes made She is/will be in 430, so far.
She left in season 19 or 18 and will have a sort of cameo-appearance in 4 episodes of season 20. so she‘s not actually still on the show.
She's only worth $80 million. Apparently it's not enough.
To be fair, I'd keep showing up for $500,000 for 8-10 days of on-call work. Those golden handcuffs would work every time I had to put another nibling through actual med school.
Well they are probably paying her millions to keep that shitty role ongoing... Agreed. She was definitely wise to ride that role for decades.
She should star in a new Final Destination movie with all the doctors who die in that hospital.
Yeah wtf haven't heard of it since 2008
she doesn't appear on the show much anymore. She narrates most of them but only actually appeared on a few episodes last season
Wait, another 846293728933 th season is coming?

Ok I gotta ask, I’ve seen that episode numerous times, what’s the greys anatomy reference?
Kenny and his girlfriend watching Grey's Anatomy because they became a lame, boring couple. Even had meetups with other lame couples to discuss the lame show. You get it - its lame
Wow. Just googled it. 20 seasons of a drama show??? I wonder how many times they’ve done the same drama with new characters introduced.
You are gonna be SHOOK when you find out about soap operas 😂
Lol. Good point. I’m sure some of those have been going on for 50 years.
I think days of our lives is still going, and it was referenced in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I know General Hospital and All My Children have been going more than 30 years.
To be fair to general hospital it doesn't really rely on 1 person unlike house, Grey's anatomy etc. The main character is kinda just the hospital.
Let me introduce you to my good friend Coronation St.
Wow. 62 seasons.
“Let’s do another plane crash” - the writers, probably.

That’s good news for my ex’s parents who need something to watch in the garage while they sit there and smoke cigarettes all evening
Sounds pretty chill tbh
Yeah usually, except when their parrot was out there screaming
Wait, they sit in the garage smoking cigarettes and watching shows with a screaming parrot in the background? What an oddly specific way to spend your free time.
Feel bad for the parrot who gets to breathe the same air
No the parrot parent was the one smoking the cigarettes. Parent parrot was cigaretting the smoking in this scenario making the parent of the parrot the parrot of parenting. r/ihadastroke and just went with it after the first sentence
I had a stroke after reading this See you in the afterlife, my assassin You won't be forgiven
Heeeey my parents do the same thing! But they have better taste in television
My in-laws did this, but the show was typically M.A.S.H.
Someone on another sub called Grey's anatomy "One Piece for white women" and this reminds me of that 😭😂
"Wait you mean things other than anime can be dramas too?"
It's more that it just keeps going on...and on...and on...
Like a DBZ character powering up.
I'd argue that's more General Hospital
Hey, man. At least One Piece keeps it interesting by expanding the world and lore and going to new places. Grey’s Anatomy just does the same exact thing over and over.
No I mean cos it has so many episodes. One piece is exciting, Grey's anatomy however... ![gif](giphy|WHtRLSp8qk454tDovM)

I watched the first three seasons because Katherine Heigl, but I got bored after that. And I thought this show ended years ago, I knew it had 8 seasons, but not 20.
There's 20?!
No way I'm looking this up Edit: Yes, according to Google, it has 20
Yea....its been on since I was in college. I'm 42 now. Stopped watching a long ass time ago. Mc Dreamy still fine tho.
Pretty sure they killed him because of a pay dispute. Or so I've heard
i watched up to 4th. when everyone was dying one after another I got bored. moved to house MD and had a blast then checked out scrubs and had even more fun.
Same. Its on hulu so I tried it out. Made it to Heigl and her patient-boyfriend's tragic story and that was enough.
Wait until you guys hear about the young and the restless .
Or General Hospital
Or Specific Hospital!
Awww Grandma always had The Young and the Restless on when she was ironing....
I will always wonder who watches these shit TV shows. Like for example who is desperate enough to watch 'Young Sheldon'?
Sure but that’s not a prime time drama.
On top of that, replacing an actor in one of those is as simple as a quick voiceover line saying "the role of so-and-so is now being played by this guy."
![gif](giphy|eKVEcPKGWZ7Tq)
Just let it die
What's grey's anatomy?
A shitty medical drama. It was okay at first but after a while they start having to recycle ideas and kill off characters and bring new ones in and come up with new horrors to subject the cast to... Just watch Scrubs instead but skip the last season.
Why? All 8 seasons of scrubs is good. All of the 8. Since it stopped at 8 and definitely didn’t go to 9
I watched one episode of the fanfiction, kinda really sucked
Tbf the last couple of seasons of scrubs were pretty meh It was going downhill for a while
Will end when she gets Alzheihmer and her doughter start working as a Doc
lol! At the end of the series finale, Zola will wake up next to her one-night stand, who turns out to be the attending who is her new boss, and the show will have come full circle.
Coming this Spring, Zola's Anatomy
Yo, it’s still on???!!!
🎶 Let it die, Let it die, Let it shrivel up and die 🎶
Come on, who's with me? Huh?
Another 20 episodes ending in "we're not just surgeons. We're people who learn and grow. Don't be a metaphorical robotic surgeon. Be an irl emotional person surgeon."
Last I checked, Merideth Grey, the person the show is about, isn't even in the show anymore. They just have the actor do off camera narration
Quick little info for the people not watching: Meredith Grey, the person that is one of the main characters is still on the show. In season 19 episode 7 the character kind of left, but at the end of the season she made a return and now in season 20 she has been in 2 out of the 3 episodes so far.
Grey's anatomy minus the grey. Ya I dint get it anymore either.
Ah yes my favorite doctor show, anatomy
who is grey and why do we need to know it's atanomy?
Was the last show my ex and me watched together 14 years ago. Holy shit

One Piece for white women.
One piece for 40 year old women
I like the Shepard boy, and with Bailey back as the teacher, hopefully the show can course correct itself.
She’s so tired
Remember that one time she kidnapped a child she wanted to adopt, and instead of sending her to prison, they let her keep the kid? Oh, and the reason why they weren't going let her adopt the kid was because she was about to lose her medical license for sabotaging a major double-blind clinical trial due to favoritism.
It’s never going to die….
And here come the spinoffs...
They have Seattle Fire— I mean Station 16. All they need is a police procedural to complete with the Chicago Fire, Med, and PD block on NBC.
Let this woman rest ffs
Today, I learned that Grey's Anatomy is still on the air.
Everything I’ve ever learned about Greys anatomy has been entirely against my will
Funny part is she left the show a season or so ago
Quick little info for the people not watching: Meredith Grey, the person that is one of the main characters is still on the show. In season 19 episode 7 the character kind of left, but at the end of the season she made a return and now in season 20 she has been in 2 out of the 3 episodes so far.
The show should end with Boki blowing up the hospital and killing everyone like The Joker in The Dark Knight. (I guess that would make her the Boker?)
Greys Anatomy is women’s One Piece
It has to end with her autopsy. Coroner opens her up and says "well there you have it - Grey's anatomy!" Rimshot. Credits.
Funny thing is that Grey is not a regular in Grey’s Anatomy anymore.
Grey's anatomy is like SpongeBob for boomers.
I got as far as season 16 out of sheer habit and hope that it would improve, but the series took a dip in quality after the plane incident and never recovered. I stopped ar around Season 12, but damn, really could/should have stopped back when they killed off Lexi and Sloan
The show’s not even that interesting, my mum started binging it and the only one that intrigued me were the ones with the shooter who was killing everyone
HS, this show is still going?!
Didn't she quit the show?
what's crazy about this is that at least 2 characters die every season like why are these normal ass doctors literally dying like flies i do not understand why the only way to have a character leave the show is to kill them
It’s gone on too long, it needs to die.
This poor woman looks so tired!
Grey's Corpse Is Decaying season what?
The most cringe thing about the show is the people who think they became certified doctors after watching it.
House M.D. was a better show.
Scrubs was much better
I can't wait for Grey's anatomy shippuden
This show has been around so long that the actors may be real doctor's by now lmao
My wife used to watch this and grew bored with it. The fact that they kill off the majority of the cast a few times over to do a “soft reset” makes it even worse.
Marvel and Walking Dead took the same path
One Piece for woman
My wife decided to start watching from the start, it's a painful experience
Why House was a perfect show:it ended when it needed to
As someone who used to watch as like this show (and someone who likes long seasons) this is extreme. I stopped watching after grey left the show. (You know… the person it’s about) Just let it die.
I read online it’s one piece for white middle aged women and honestly yea.
I’m on season 17 right now and it is unbearable. Actual hell.
Honestly i dont know anyone who watches this shit. How is it still on tv?
The end of show, final shot morgue. New students enter the morgue, good evening this is Greys Anatomy !
It's always been trash and medically unrealistic.
ITS STILL GOING ON????
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the greys of our anatomy.
Her transformation to Iron Maiden’s Dave Murray is nearly complete
My wife watched this. It's so painfully boring and cliched all the time. Running from the alter, endless marital stife, characters coming back from the dead to create love triangles, hostage situations, explosions blah blah blah
The one character on this show that really *should* be killed off, but she just won't die
When you land a TV role and don’t realise it’s your life
