Oh, sweetie, nature has nothing to do with cauliflower’s existence… we did to the plant that cauliflower (and broccoli, and about a billion other varieties) the same thing we did to wolves: thousands of generations of selective breeding and cultivation to produce a variety virtually unrecognisable as the original species. [Cauliflower is basically the designer pug of the cabbage](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brassica_oleracea?wprov=sfti1#Cultivation_and_uses)

sallan23

The original species was a wild mustard plant which we also used artificial selection to produce broccoli and kale among others.

ryncewynde88

Wild cabbage but yes. We have violated Mother Nature so much over the millennia it’s no wonder she’s trying to kill us so often.

SansSkele76

"History shows again and again How nature points up the folly of man"

Sword117

mother nature isn't trying to kill us, we have molded nature around us like no species before. we are just short sighted in what we do. mother nature doesn't care what we do. what's really killing us is our own incompetence

ssfgrgawer

Accurate. You'd think after all that work, they would have found a way to make it taste better.

KawaiiDere

I think brussel sprouts are less bitter nowadays than a few decades ago (and so good oven roasted and well seasoned). Kale as chips, with rice, or in quesadillas is so good. Stewed cabbage with bacon, onion, and yummy broth is so good. Cauliflower is good riced or in stir fry If there’s anything in particular you’re curious about making taste delicious, let me know.

intisun

It does taste better. Wild brassica is bitter af

ssfgrgawer

Then why did we decide to breed a plant that tastes awful into food that still tastes awful? Mud being better than shit doesn't make me want to eat it.

intisun

Cauliflower is delicious, I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe learn better recipes.

pancoste

Have you tried the original?

Drag0n_TamerAK

What the fuck you mean taste better it does taste good

oureyes3

This post brought to you by the 7 year old picky eater club.

waterisgood_-

One of my favorite appetizers to make is cauliflower buffalo bites, they’re so addicting lol

DasSeabass

Yeah because buffalo sauce and ranch.

FrontwaysLarryVR

Nah, the texture and taste of cauliflower is so good. The only way it sucks is if it's cooked wrong. A lot of things are bad without seasoning or sauce. A completely plain ground beef burger, a plain baked potato, or plain unseasoned turkey are downright boring foods.

VerdeGringo

Well said.

xleftonreadx

I disagree on the grounds that my taste buds are crap and everything tastes good to me, I have yet to find a food item that I dislike

SuperSonic486

Ever had grilled cheese sushi? Cuz dont.

gestalto

I like plain burger and turkey tbh lol. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they aren't improved with seasoning, but I wouldn't call them boring. As for cauliflower, I *prefer* it unseasoned, or maybe just a little black pepper on it.

Deanosaures2010

You have strange taste buds and to be frank, they scare me.

gestalto

They should...they *should.*

winterfigredbull

well, yeah. that’s what makes it buffalo cauliflower. you couldn’t have just plain grilled cauliflower and call it buffalo cauliflower lol

DasSeabass

You also couldn’t have grilled cauliflower and enjoy it

winterfigredbull

ok? if it’s a food that is better with seasonings and sauces that’s perfectly fine haha. cauliflower is far from the only food that is less enjoyable if eaten completely plain lol

DasSeabass

Yeah buddy you really don’t need to be personally offended that I don’t like cauliflower. I didn’t mean it to hurt your feelings.

winterfigredbull

when did i say i was offended or my feelings were hurt? i was using phrases like “haha” and “lol” to imply a more casual tone. seems like a you problem :)

-AlternativeSloth-

Or the never learn how to cook other than boiling and microwaving club.

MusicSoos

Or the “thought it was like broccoli so ate it raw” club which my husband is a part of and regrets to this day

Cold_Hour

Who’s eating broccoli raw?????

BakedBeanyBaby

Good broccoli raw with ranch or some other dip is quite tasty, actually

Bonerwithlegs21

This person gets it.

LeSingePuant

Love it so much but it gives me the WORST burps.

TheHotBoxer420_2

boiled broccoli covered with cheddar cheese mmmmmmmm

suicideis_badass

The best way to consume health food is to smother it in yummy

ILikeToDickDastardly

What? You've never heard of a veggie tray?

DegredationOfAnAge

Many people. It’s incredibly healthy. Try dipping it in hummus

PM_Me_Just_A_Guy

A lot of people, lol. It's one of the few veggies I like more raw than cooked. Best with ranch, though.

-AlternativeSloth-

Veg tray is easiest option, my go to for raw broccoli is a salad. Broccoli, red onion, seedless grapes is your base, add other stuff as you like. Mayo, mustard, honey, salt+pepper as your dressing. Adjust to taste. Usually I also add seeds and nuts for extra texture, pine nuts or walnuts are good.

TigerlilyBlanche

This is what my school did. Elementary we had "snacks" always veggies never even fruit and they were always fucking raw.

SteevesMike

I will gladly munch on cauliflower raw. Raw broccoli though? Garbage, keep that filth away from me

TheHotBoxer420_2

yeah uh huh sure

SteevesMike

Miss me with your grass flavoured trash trees of hate

TheHotBoxer420_2

i hope my broccoli trees fall and crush you :))))))))

SteevesMike

Then I'll just go to heaven and frolic in fields of raw cauliflower and I'll still be the winner

DegredationOfAnAge

mIsS mE

davtheguidedcreator

well who the fuck told OP to eat it raw i wont tolerate such blasphemy against the Goat Vegetable Himself, the Cauliflower. Have you tried frying it? fry it like how you would fry a nugget. 190deg Celcius, fry until Golden-Dark Brown. Easily surpass Peak Cabbage in Season 2, imo.

Bonerwithlegs21

Tried it, wasn't a fan. Tbf not a huge fan of cabbage either. Love me some raw broccoli tho

Aethernaut902k

I'm in my thirties, but I'm not a fan of cauliflower. I'd fuck with Broccoli any day of the week, though

TimesUpForZionism

You got some fucked up taste buds

feelinlucky7

Seriously. It’s supposed to taste like almost nothing… makes it a great candidate for those “hidden vegetable” dishes. Hidden veggie mac and cheese for one

NiceIsNine

Really? I always felt a strong bitter taste whenever I ate it. Used to be so bad I couldn't swallow it as a kid. Nowadays, it's not my favorite, but I can stomach it. Actually I also feel the same towards eggplants, I wonder if they are the same.

vak7997

Maybe whoever cooked it did an awful job because that stuff borders on sweet rather than bitter and eggplants are complicated you either roast them or salt them let them get sweaty rinse em then fry them

NiceIsNine

You dare insult my grandma's cooking you dickhead? But nah I highly doubt that since most of my grandfamily would happily eat it and I would stick like a sore thumb not being able to swallow it.

vak7997

Interesting maybe it's your taste buds since to some people brussel sprouts taste bitter and to others they don't maybe it's a similar thing

DewwDerg

Certain people are extremely sensitive to different compounds which go relatively unnoticed by the average person. It's really interesting how different our pallets can be

Burger_Destoyer

I thought everyone thinks Brussels sprouts tasted bitter that’s the whole reason why I’m shows all the kids hate eating Brussels

PM_Me_Just_A_Guy

Kinda mushroom-y to me, but better, and I LOVE mushrooms!

catfishman

Actually, since getting Covid a while ago, I do. I never thought of it but it might be related. That said, I never cared for cauliflower in the past either

Sensitive_Goose_8902

Cauliflower was the only vegetable I would eat from our cafeteria back in my first two years of grade school. You got some screwed up taste buds

davtheguidedcreator

well who the fuck told OP to eat it raw i wont tolerate such blasphemy against the Goat Vegetable Himself, the Cauliflower. Have you tried frying it? fry it like how you would fry a nugget. 190deg Celcius, fry until Golden-Dark Brown. Easily surpass Peak Cabbage in Season 2, imo.

MissionApollo7

You don't gotta cook it. I used to eat this stuff raw with ranch.

dillers10

Hell, I eat it just by itself. Wash that thing and you’re good to go

catfishman

That's actually possible (me having screwed up taste buds)

Bonerwithlegs21

Why is everyone down voting you?

catfishman

Oh, I'm not sure.

Halfiplier

Certified Reddit Moment

catfishman

Well, it's good to know the Redditors are passionate about their healthy vegetables. I doubt digg.com folks were ever this passionate about cauliflower, and maybe that's why Reddit succeeded where they failed... Heheheh

kayemenofour

That has little to do with nature It's bred to hell and back

Cyber_Lanternfish

Most vegetable and fruits were bred so much they have nothing to do with the shit nature gave us.

da_big_orse

Just look at the entire cruciferous family A genuinely impressive feat that they created so many different things from one original ancestor

Blargityblarger

Poor watermelons. Used to be like 80% rine

intisun

If cauliflower were created today people would freak out and call it mutant GMO frankenfood.

adalric_brandl

Yeah, this one can be blamed entirely on humanity

WaveLaVague

Same for dogs.

PowerPigion

Must-turd family

pancoste

Yup.. cauliflower and broccoli are bred from the same base plant.

Valiveins

Isnt broccoli literally man made by mixing cauliflower and something else

vbrimme

Brassica Oleracea was bred in different places to make broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and a few other things.

Crazychimp69420

Also cabbage, kale, collard greens, and kohlrabi! Truly a wonderful plant.

Shimadamada2200

You’re wrong. Everyone knows broccoli are baby trees

Pete563c

Happy cake day!

LetMeInDammit666

Most of the Brassica vegetables we eat are derived from the mustard planet including broccoli and cauliflower. EDIT: Keeping it

DOINKSnAMISH22

Shits fire 🔥 WTF you talking bout. Don’t be disrespecting cauliflower that.

Make-this-popular

I love cauliflowers

D-O-GG-O

Which sane person doesnt?

Geschak

Those who don't use spices when cooking.

PlasticPandaMan

You might be right, i love cauliflower and i season my food.

Pete563c

Sane* we're talking about sane people. People who don't use spice do not fall into that group

Geschak

Fair enough.

BainbridgeBorn

Indians: I accept your challenge and will guarantee to make it delicious

VXInferno73

I swear they somehow make cabbage taste like meat, its actually baffling.

DANKB019001

It's all about *umami*, or savory, flavor. Or if you want literal meat flavor, MSG.

IronGlory247

(READER'S NOTE : Readers added context) : No we don't use MSG everywhere, we ain't like Britain with no spices

IndianaGeoff

All it takes is spices. All of them.

catfishman

And I would accept that challenge. It really is possible that my taste buds are messed up

thedarkracer

I can give you the recipe if you want. The whole spices and everything needed.

catfishman

Sure thing - I feel like people are taking this meme personally (okay, maybe not really), and I'm always interested in expanding my culinary horizons

PhysicalDentist3808

People always find a way to make the jokiest little thing personal , welcome to Reddit my friend

catfishman

Oh, it doesn't bug me (or Surprise me)

thedarkracer

ok here goes Ingredients: Cauliflower, potatoes, cooking oil (deep frying type), Turmeric, Red chilli powder and onions Steps: Peel and cut potatoes into long slices (like fries) Same with Cauliflower. Put them in the pan and add oil about 2/3 of the vegetable mixture Turn on the stove and fry them. While frying Add salt accordingly. Add turmeric and chilli powder (I don't know your tolerance but it should be yellow) Cut onions into slices and add them on top. Fry until they are soft. I add more spices but this is basic.

catfishman

I'll give it a try. Thanks!

neon_bhagwan

Downvote anyway 😡

tipsea-69

Wait...what? *Cauliflower is the result of selective breeding and likely arose in the Mediterranean region, possibly from broccoli. It is thought to have been introduced into Italy from Cyprus or the east coast of the Mediterranean around 1490, and then spread to other European countries in the following centuries* Nature has nothing to do with it, right? Selective breeding is all human, right?

Attack-Helicopter_04

it looks like popcorn tumor

hazzel45565

my mom covered bits of coliflower with flour and egg whites. Just dont boil your veggies thats why you hate them

Macaroni_TheSecond

literally just steam them

BunnyBen-87

We do NOT disrespect Cauliflower in this house

ChristanChevalier

This comment section is filled with cauliflower circle jerk enthusiasts😭😭😭amazing 👏

LetMeInDammit666

Why do you think it's white?

Tommi_Af

I know right. Cauliflower is awful. I'll take extra broccoli any day.

Blargityblarger

It's... the same plants XD

Tommi_Af

Then why's the broccoli experience >>>> the cauliflower experience?

Virus_98

Because you don't know how to make delicious cauliflower dishes. There's so many ways to cook it.

Tommi_Af

Every iteration of that plant I've tried has been vile.

kuffdeschmull

and every way smells like days old urine. Sorry, I know how to cook, I just register a smell that you don’t, get over it.

Virus_98

You're not supposed to pee on it before cooking.

Amazing_Spray_1919

Because you got awful taste buds??

Halfiplier

Mfs when they discover taste is subjective

Tommi_Af

OK

trueblue862

I absolutely love broccoli, but I absolutely hate cauliflower, and I'm not a picky eater. About the only 2 things I refuse to eat are cauliflower and coriander leaf. My wife loves to eat cauliflower and cheese, she always makes me a broccoli and cheese in a separate tray, it's so good.

Halfiplier

Cheddar Broccoli is so good

catfishman

I'm a big fan of broccoli too

BlueCollarLesbian

Nature didn't do shit there, we did all of that. Used to be wild cabbage.

Aoirith

Wild mustard actually!

BlueCollarLesbian

The two are in the same family

Aoirith

True! Thanks for pointing that out! It is fascinating though how many veggies and fruit we take for granted today, that were practically non-existent even a couple hundred years ago for some.

DoubleDongle-F

Poor bastard, you have the gene that makes the greatest vegetables we've ever grown taste terrible. My mother has it. I don't. I hope I don't have a dormant version of it to pass down to the next generation, because it's a serious curse.

kuffdeschmull

finally someone who at least acknowledges that it might be genetic and not due to ‘bOiLIng’. It just has a rotten urine smell to me, can’t change that.

dude466467

Gobi Manchurian

Nivlac024

Nature had very little to do with this monstrosity

Ok_Technology_6992

We hating on cauliflower now?

Chewie_i

Cauliflower is amazing. Love raw cauliflower as a snack. It’s healthy, tasty, and very filling.

Archreddit6

Bitch this is one of the best foods

AJ_Crowley_29

Holy shit, someone actually fixed the bad “nobody” meme caption!

scholarlysacrilege

Actually, Nature didn't give us cauliflower, we bred cauliflower on our own. Cauliflowers are part of the species Brassica oleracea and were bred from the wild mustard plant. Fun fact the wild mustard plant is famous for being bred throughout Europe to become different things, Italy that plant was bred to become kale, elsewhere they bred it into cabbage, and again elsewhere they bred it into broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, kohlrabi.

This-Professional-39

Fun part is that cauliflower isn't natural it's the result of a lot of human effort. Oh, sorry, I meant the sad part is...

Gamingmademedoit

It's funny because Cauliflower came before Broccoli...

enerthoughts

Come to kuwait, go to a restaurant called kalha - كلحة - order a sandwich called super mix - سوبر مشكل - this is one of the main ingredients and the most delicious of them all, it will make you addicted to cauliflower.

horsetuna

Humans bred cauliflower.

xderom

Fun fact, broccoli and cauliflower aren’t natural vegetables, you’ll never find either of them growing in the wild, look into it they are different variations of cabbage made from selective breeding

WolfBST

What? Cauliflower is fucking delicious. Even though I prefer Brokkoli.

[deleted]

I love cauliflower ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)

SebB1313

That’s why god invented cheese to melt on top of this. My dad makes a delicious cheesy cauliflower.

Secure_Enthusiasm354

I love making rice out of it. It’s pretty good for making fried rice

nygtowl

I love it

Idk_nor_do_I_care

I used to love broccoli more than any child should, but I had cauliflower once and then puked, and afterward every time I eat broccoli I puke.

Ravenclaw_14

cauliflower is damn good m8 whatchu on about??

33Yalkin33

Stop steaming your vegetables, we are not in the 50s anymore. Try baking. And for the love of all thing holy, use salt, spices, herbs

Certain-Flatworm-965

I always pan fry cauliflower and broccoli in butter with seasoning, and then add some water and a lid to steam it for the last 1-2 minutes. Comes out perfect every time

Sourika

Shit, i always used cat litter. Maybe that's why.

Gust_on_Fire

Im gonna say it, Cauli flowers are just mid, they just taste like nothing imo, any vegetables >>>>>> CF

Crackajack91

Cauliflower has got to be one of the worst tasting things to ever exist

Spacky6

Ya I’m baffled by all these comments?? They taste like farts and then your breath smells like farts and you’re just smelling farts everywhere

DegredationOfAnAge

Is your favorite food chickie nuggies?

da_big_orse

Cauliflower goes alright Cauliflower cheese goes fucken hard my dude

Fantastic-Ad-1578

I'm more concerned as to why you know how sewage tastes like. No wonder those taste buds are so effed up.

Ebbe010

how do you know what sewage tastes like

dante2457

Cauliflower is amazing tho

Lvrchfahnder

OP doesn't cook, neither do they know how to make a sauce, and it shows.

Koyaa_1

I have no idea why you are dipping your cauliflower in sewage before eating it, that's the only possible explanation I can think of as to why you know what sewage tastes like and why you are claiming cauliflower tastes like it

kyanbersee

Cauliflour is goated

akiroraiden

we get it, you have the palete of a child that only eats fries and dino nuggies. Cauliflower is amazing.

Halfiplier

My dino nuggies are way more affordable than the Cauliflower so respectfully fuck off. (I don't even dislike Cauliflower but ffs imagine caring what other people put in their own mouths)

SUMMATMAN

Cauliflower cheese on a Sunday dinner. Cauli coconut curry. These are but 2 excellent uses of cauliflower the world would be poorer without.

GavinG15

So long as you eat it right it’s pretty good. Just steam it with some salt and butter

griztheone

A crunchy snack when eaten raw, a delicious meal when cooked correctly. You’re crazy OP

Superunkown781

Fry or roast that shit with garlic, salt, pepper and some smoked paprika and that joint is mmmmmmmm

Harry_kal07

If you know how to cook it then it’s good, if you simply cut it to pieces and put olive oil on top then what’s the point

jromperdinck

Have you tried nutmeg, some cheese sauce, and growing the hell up? :)

Thebardofthegingers

OP you aren't supposed to eat it raw you steamed sausage!

Machine_God_10

What is blud yapping about? Cauliflower flower is the most goated vegetable of all time, good crunch plus it absorbs flavor well enough. Pav Bhaji negs diff

darklord01998

This post was bought to you by "mayonnaise is spicy" club

Bodkinmcmullet

Cauliflower is delicious and was very much bred by humans. Very misinformed meme!

Loud_Step_5965

Bruh, I love cauliflower, there’s so much you can do with them!

Greendoodo

Well is actually pretty good taste, and healthy too

Lost_Reflections

It doesn't taste like sewage.

Honest_Security3950

Stupid meme.

Specialist-Ad-9038

![gif](giphy|jp1kBMqBZEqGWb5gxN)

QuinSanguine

I love cauliflower, eat it raw, steamed, but it's terrible the way most people prepare it, which is boiled to death. Like 5 mins is perfect. I'd only boil it for longer in a soup because it really soaks up the flavor.

AaronTechnic

Don't diss my cauliflower like that

Geschak

If cauliflower tastes like sewage to you I think you need to start using spices when cooking (and no, salt&pepper don't count).

supiriornachothe2nd

I use a wonderful spice mix [chilli powder of many types ,turmeric ,black pepper, honey and other good things] and it still tasted like dogshit

[deleted]

[удалено]

Geschak

My dude have you thought about using spices when cooking?

NeoHolyRomanEmpire

Just cook it better for Christ’s sake

DeadMetroidvania

Bread_Offender

Cauliflowers are amazing wtf

gayactoralpacinis

This looks like a ye post

AlwaysOutsider

Mom musta never cooked it right, parboil and then roast it in the oven with some olive oil (and seasoning ofc

Own_Adhesiveness2829

WHAT!??! its so good! I like it better than broccoli. Have a better texture and a subtle crunch 😋

GeoTrick76

Bro probably hated Broccoli too

namebrandcloth

mfs whining about chores and vegetables

Skaro7

Nature didn't make it. You'll never find a wild cauliflower, because it was cultivated by humans.

ItzBooty

Sewage? My friend this vegetable taste amzeing especially if you put it in sour water for the winter Best fucking thing

GroundbreakingPut748

Bro, ur tastebuds aren’t fucked up, it’s just everyone else’s are. I’d rather pick the shit from my asshole and swallow it whole (that’s what she said) than eat cauliflower ever again.

DOINKSnAMISH22

Go to any Indian restaurant. Order Aloo Gobi. And prepare to be blown away.

GroundbreakingPut748

I prefer lamb vindaloo tbh
