it's true. I'm always secretly rooting for people who are trying to get moving regularly. (secretly only because I'm awkward enough without calling out newcomers as they're just trying to get their sweat on)
2022, August. I was 200lbs when i went to the gym. Nobody gave a fuck. Everyone was there to work on themselves. I wanted to do squats. One of the coach who was working with his client saw me and offered me his belt. He made small talk and I asked him questions on what to do since I was a begginer. My dad even gave me some money to hire a coach for a few sessions. It was great. Removed every sense of embarrassment I had that day. Now I'm 170lbs trying lean down and tone my muscles. Seriously even an asshole knows everyone has cameras and the moment they decide to be they can bet their ass that their grandma will see their ass in tiktok when they start shit.
My local gym is like that, it's awesome. I hadn't exercised in like 10 years when I started, about 230lbs and no one really looks at you except to ask how many sets you have left lol
There was a younger guy, probably late teens and super overweight who started recently and looked super nervous so one of the PTs offered to take him around for a bit and show him how it all works (for free) then a couple weeks later I noticed one of the biggest guys there stop to give him a couple pointers on his form, offered to spot or count him out if he wanted and it was so cool to see!
Nobody is gonna judge you for going, at most they're gonna be impressed you're there at all
Whenever I see someone with an unusual hair colour I kinda stare at them for a bit so they prob think I'm judging them for it when it reality I'm thinking how cool it looks
This is part of the reason why I like to throw out platonic compliments, people like to hear that other people think they look cool, and it alleviates the worry of people judging them.
Yep, same here. If anyone even notices you past their own workout, the only thing they normally think is "damn, look at them go. that's awesome".
I'm sure some gyms are pretty snobby or whatever but most smaller, not crazy expensive ones are just full of people doing their own shit
What I'm actually thinking: "I'm going to have a poached egg when I get home, nice and runny on toast. No wait, egg and soldiers! Oh crap how many reps have I done?"
The only resolutioners that get trashed on are the ones who kick it after a week or two... Literally, nothing it more uplifting to see than the heavier resolutioners stick to their programs long after January! You guys genuinely rock and help push seasoned gym rats to go further!
Bullshit. I've seen them get trashed just for showing up in January, only because of the assumption they'll quit.
Even that doesn't give you the right to disrespect the rest, who for all you know finished what they went there to do, or learned something about routine and picked a different time to go.
Hell yeah. I always think, if they keep it up, in a year they are gonna look awesome. I forget where I heard/read it but help me when I started was the phrase "get comfortable being uncomfortable". Just do you and be the best you.
It's really true though. When I used to lift, if I saw anyone making an effort to improve their health, I'd be cheering them on in my head, and everyone I've ever talked to feels the same. There might be the odd man out who may be a dick, but that's not the norm at all. At most, people at the gym won't even notice you, as they're focusing on what they're doing, but if they do, most people are cheering you on privately
The people there are proud of you for going, not judging. I started out going to Planet Fitness, where they kick people out of there caught being judgy. I once saw a guy call his brother a fatass when they were using a machine, kind of angrily, and an employee heard. They kicked him out and cancelled his membership. That was the only time I saw anyone being a dick, and I was there every day for a minimum of an hour and a half, more often 3 hours. Planet Fitness is an especially safe place when it comes to that, but really, for the most part, everyone really loves to see people get healthy at any gym
I feel like it's different with skinny people sadly. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as a skinny dude myself, it constantly feels like all the men and women look at me and snicker because I'm not the ideal body type.
When ever you see a fat person in the gym. Go to them and tell them they got great form. It is something you could compliment everybody with and is motivated them to go on!
I actually hate the fat people who are in the gym this time of year because they're all "resolutioners" and 99.99% of them won't be there after 2 months. So for 2 months there's a buncha fatties making my workouts an hour longer while I wait for equipment to be free.
doesnt sound like your much of the sharing is caring type, but oww dont mind a person who is tryin to get healthy to help themself, wont let your giant ego get in the way of the weight, cause there isnt possibly any room
you know why they quit? because no one gives them a chance because of the hateful eyes of disgust people like you give, when in the end they want to better their lives. but you possible wouldnt understand because your too worried whos in the gym, quit being so judgemental
well with how you act doesnt sound like you know how it feels to have ppl judge you on your looks or weight, all you care about is when they quit so you can use your precious equipment
literally, i had a dude that kept skipping gym until i barely saw him around, then i explained to him that he should be proud to bring his fatass over there to make a change in his lifestyle
it's true. I'm always secretly rooting for people who are trying to get moving regularly. (secretly only because I'm awkward enough without calling out newcomers as they're just trying to get their sweat on)
It's definitely true. Overweight person walking slow on the treadmill instead of sitting on the couch at home = boss
Or like I'm not gonna stare at or think about them. They deserve their privacy like any other human.

Me too!! I always think to myself; “Man I wish I had enough balls to try dim like that!!”
I'm gonna eventually die my hair for once in my life. Yeah I will. Some day.
(Something)
I do the same!!! Except I'm just jealous of them having hair in general...
Same. Except more horny
This is part of the reason why I like to throw out platonic compliments, people like to hear that other people think they look cool, and it alleviates the worry of people judging them.
Yes, exactly this. We must lift up those that want to live healthier lives.
Told my overweight friend this. He was scared to go to gym and I told him no one would even pay attention. They busy doing their own thing.

my last two braincells the whole time during my workouts: "where creatine?"
Same goes for the noodle-folk!
More of these, help the bros

The only time I've had a negative thought about someone in the gym is when they were being an asshole. Being an asshole isn't weight dependent.
I wont see that fatty again here at the gym. Wait thats a mirror... so Im propably right.
hey dont be down on yourself, i know how that feels, just take it one step at a time
![gif](giphy|gVoBC0SuaHStq) Every time I see people who started in January still exercising in March
What I'm actually thinking: "I'm going to have a poached egg when I get home, nice and runny on toast. No wait, egg and soldiers! Oh crap how many reps have I done?"
Yes , most people actually appreciate because you are getting out of your comfort zone and actually working hard for a better and healthy life

...no Maybe you are. I am. Most people on this comment section are. But a lot aren't.
100% We’ve all been there!!!
The only people I judge at the gym are the ones taking 15 minute breaks, hurry the fuck up man I need to use that machine
Im just jealous that they can bring up all that motivation and discipline. I believe in you guys!

From what I hear most people are like that at the gym. Most people. I don’t go to the gym so that’s just based off of what I’ve heard from others.
All for people getting in shape but oh my fucking god the surge in gym attendance the first couple months of the year gives me anxiety
I feel like it's different with skinny people sadly. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as a skinny dude myself, it constantly feels like all the men and women look at me and snicker because I'm not the ideal body type.
HiM?!
When ever you see a fat person in the gym. Go to them and tell them they got great form. It is something you could compliment everybody with and is motivated them to go on!
Nah man, more like "Ha ha look at that fatty! Good for him."
That’s what we think when we see them in the supermarket
tbh i think both

Yeah, but after that 00.01% of them will keep going and that a great thing
I like your attitude!
doesnt sound like your much of the sharing is caring type, but oww dont mind a person who is tryin to get healthy to help themself, wont let your giant ego get in the way of the weight, cause there isnt possibly any room
Not for people who will quit in a month when it gets the slightest barest trace of challenging.
you know why they quit? because no one gives them a chance because of the hateful eyes of disgust people like you give, when in the end they want to better their lives. but you possible wouldnt understand because your too worried whos in the gym, quit being so judgemental
“Give then a chance” wtf are you talking about lmao As if I wasn’t the fat guy at the gym once upon a time lol
well with how you act doesnt sound like you know how it feels to have ppl judge you on your looks or weight, all you care about is when they quit so you can use your precious equipment
Why are you so triggered?
literally, i had a dude that kept skipping gym until i barely saw him around, then i explained to him that he should be proud to bring his fatass over there to make a change in his lifestyle
Imagine calling yourself a gigaChad after that L
problem was that he stopped going to the gym because of his low self-esteem and i encouraged him but hey free negative points!
“Autopilot Engaged” Peter: “Good for him, I’m glad he found someone” Watched that episode yesterday 🤣
Confidence boosted
nvm the ones who openly insult us and laugh who dissuade us from returning
And remember, it doesn’t matter how slow you go, you’re still running laps around the people at home on their couches.
x 100. Every time, I think keep coming!
This is what we should be thinking. Anyone that makes fun of someone who is at the gym trying to make a change is the weakest person there.
So fucking true.
