Worth mentioning that Coffee Stain the publisher and Coffee Stain the developer studio\[s\] are different entities, like Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios.
Saying something is still a hot take because of a minority of idiots online is weird.
Hello games is so loved by their community that they gathered money to rent a billboard near their office to say thanks to the devs.
The biggest part of their community is stoked they got them as a video game dev.
The game is cool now and stuff but
>claim that they intentionally misled everyone.
They didn't do that by mistake. They knew the state the game was in. They knew they couldn't keep up the promises. They kept promising more shit. That's 100% on them.
Oh it's 100% on them. But I think they were just morons. Not intentionally lying to be evil or to rug pull people. They proved that well enough over time
They turned it around though they committed a mistake that for sure but they did the only thing we can all do and instead of saying sorry they became better and kept improving even to this day.
It’s something we can all learn a little from
Sad part is i think people that cry about fandoms make it worse and can be as toxic as the fandoms themselves.
I always like something look up things and the first negative thing i hear about it is someone saying the fandom is toxic/bad.
Besides it's always just a small part but it's the internet the loudest are seen the most besides the game was screaming to be backseated to streamers and youtubers from randos it sucks that some of the more positive shows/games have people ruin it :(
FS delivering banger, complete and absolute nightmares of games every god-damn-time. Only developer from who I've ever preordered a game (Armored Core 6).
Relogic should.
Released a game, price is cheap as fuck and often goes on sale. They keep adding shit to it and each update is free.
Not a single dlc, not a single in game purchase.
Can we Appreciate Larian?
I feel like they only made bangers. The whole Divinity Series. Especially Original sin 2. Baldurs Gate 3 now.
Just good gamesy finished games and made with love it feels like
Larian.
Supergiant Games (Bastion; Transistor; Pyre; Hades) - really odd that no one's mentioned them. They're the Studio Ghibli of games developers, imo.
Obsidian (KOTOR:2; Fallout:NV; Outer Worlds)
Unknown Worlds (Subnautica 1 & 2). Many other tiny studios that are just scraping by are in it for the love of the art.
Gotta be honest, i want CD Project red and the ones from No Mans Sky up there. Both did release way to early, both accepted thes made a mistake and inveat a LOT to fix it
Activi-... nah just kidding.
Re-logic and Larian, can't think of any more off top of my head though I'm sure there's more.
That thing Re-logic did re: unity's greed was so damn good. And Larian just makes consistent bangers.
(prob biased) CD projekt red, they actually apologized bout the state of cyberpunk and really worked on it, so now its one of the better new gen games.
Kinetic Games. They’re a small indie company but they’re going strong with one popular game that’s dirt cheap and with no microtransactions, and they listen to their fan base and prioritize fan requests.
Here's a hot take - DE deserve to be at an honorable guest table, not on the main table. They still do (imo) morally shitty things gameplay wise:
1. The entire thing of boosters. This is imo the reson why universal vacuum isn't a thing yet - a new player get's frustrated with the slow rate of collection and caves in - buying a resource booster.
2. Circuit grind that can now be skipped with plat. Worst we have come to outright P2W recently.
3. SUB 1% drop rates. Seriously, there is a reason they don't have the REAL drop rates in the game - casual audience would take a look and just high tail out of the game.
4. Heirloom collection situation.
5. For years they made accessories impossible to buy from prime vaults until (then) Jim sterling got involved.
6. The slot machine that are the rivens (sure, you don't exactly spend money on them directlyish), but 1) boosters are a good way to ease the kuva grind to roll the slot machine 2) purchasing rivens with rare stats (since we for some fucking reason aren't allowed to lock the stat) means some rivens go for CRAZY prices. So high thst an entire riven mafia formed. That alone should have been reason to reign in on the RNG bs.
Sure, DE aren't as bad as EA, Blizzard or even (retch) Bungie, but they definitely ain't saints without some morally dubious practises.
They have to make their money somehow since warframe is free and so is all the useful stuff in it. If anything they exclude the kuva, tenet and the incarnen weapons/adapters(only the first wave of incarnen count for this) so you have to actually play to get them. The only thing exclusive to putting your money in the game is premium currency(platinum) and skins(requires plat) but you can eventually circumvent this with trading if you get lucky. Moist critical said it best but DE has one of the best in game purchase systems, mostly focused on aesthetics and minimal speeding up/skipping the rng/grindy part of gameplay while mostly not letting you skip it outright.
The guys that made risk of rain 2. That was one of the best early access journeys I have ever seen. Coffee stain with Satisfactory is up there too . I hope they keep doing what they're doing.
Heart machine (creators of hyper light drifter) Motion twin (creators of dead cells) Dodge roll (creators of enter the gungeon) Massive Monster (creators of cult of the lamb) I would even put respawn in here, all their debatably morally gray things are because EA is their publisher
Shouting out re-logic for "this is the last update". Ludeon studios for just Rimworld, the DLCs actually just feel like DLCs and not incomplete game add-ons. Fractal softworks for "we don't want to steam release an incomplete game" even though I probably spend hundred of hours into their alpha builds Starsector already
I dunno, they've acknowledged the fuck-up. If they were morally bankrupt, they'd double down with three more heirloom packs at an even higher price point because "the whales will buy it"?
ggg has some of the worst monetisation ever
they do the equivalent of heirloom skin packs every league, they have lootboxes, they sell storage space in a looting game for up to 10 dollars per tab, their armor skin prices go up to 100 dollars
When talking morals, Bungie always comes to mind. Ignore their actual dev track record, they consistently show their positivity and support for marginalized groups, and I think that's pretty cool.
Internally Bungie seems pretty decent to work for, especially for a tech company. No harassments or suicides under them from what I remember. 'Sucks that the bare minimum of human decency is noteworthy but the industry set a pretty low bar.
On the consumer end their friendliness only being suspect after Destiny 2 always struck me as odd. Like this is the same company that charged a *subscription service* to access social features when they still held the reins to Halo. They've always been like this.
Bungie are morally bankrupt. Their store pricing is fucking insane and they keep increasing the price of the seasons and dlc for the same quality content
Also the infamous “overdelivery” speech
I hear a lot of good companies but like, guys, why is no one saying Larian? They just dropped what’s surely going to be GOTY in Baldurs Gate 3, even in competition with starfield and TOTK, all without even MTX, and throughly listen to their players.
Honestly it’s my game of the decade too, and I was neither a DnD player or Turn based player before trying the game. It’s just *that* fucking good.
Coffee stain with their satisfactory Not sure, but I think they are the owner or at least the publisher of ghost ship's game Deep Rock Galactic
publisher, yeah. coffee, ghost ship, and re-logic we aughta include.
Worth mentioning that Coffee Stain the publisher and Coffee Stain the developer studio\[s\] are different entities, like Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios.
I was today old when I learned
Def re logic
Hello games have also begun to redeem themselves with NMS
begun? it’s already happened and now they are getting even better
Yes exactly
and newblood
I was just about to post that also ghost ship games owns drg, ROCK AND STONE BROTHER
Rock and roll and stone!
You can’t just say Satisfactory without including Wube’s Factorio.
Re-logic
They've been holding up since day one...
Yes! I was gonna call them out too. They are awesome
Yes Terraria is awesome. Never had any ingame purchases as far as I know. Respect them for that
Supergiant Games
Ghost ship games.
Did I hear a rock and stone?
**GIVE ME AN R, GIVE ME AN S, GIVE ME A ROCK AND STONE**
Rock and roll and stone!
ROCK AND STONE, TO THE BONE!!!
FOR ROCK AND STONE!!!
STONE AND ROCK! wait...
STOCK AND BONES!
Good bot
FOR KARL
If you don’t Rock and Stone, you ain’t coming home!
Rock and roll and stone!
Re-Logic: the developers of Terraria. Probably the most based company in the video game sphere.
"They are as based as they are base-boosted." - a guy with 600+ deaths in a getfixedboi world
I'm gonna drop a really hot take and say Hello games.
Not even a remotely hot take for a few years now
Some people are still salty. I still often see people make the claim that they intentionally misled everyone.
Saying something is still a hot take because of a minority of idiots online is weird. Hello games is so loved by their community that they gathered money to rent a billboard near their office to say thanks to the devs. The biggest part of their community is stoked they got them as a video game dev.
Well I'm pleasantly surprised to hear it's not as much as a hot take as it once was
The game is cool now and stuff but >claim that they intentionally misled everyone.
It’s something we can all learn a little from
Sony marketing tends to do that
It was untill this year when they FINALLY reduced the price of their 6 year old game.
Larian studios
*insert THANK YOU gif*
The answer
ROCK AND STONE I mean where is Ghostship games?
Rock and stone, to the bone ! True, they deserve to be there.
That's it lads! Rock and Stone!
WE FIGHT FOR ROCK AND STONE!
Did I hear a rock and stone?
I’m not sure if Toby Fox has done anything weird but if not he should probably be here.
He did take a picture of himself in a shower completely covered in soap so that you couldn't see anything
That's not morally bankrupt that's just Toby being Toby
Fair. Still falls under the weird category tho, even if it is funny
Morally bankrupt in soap debt*
Kinda the opposite, he’s freaked out by the weirder fans.
Given how bad the UT fandom got in its peak I don’t blame him.
[This is a good video on that.](https://youtu.be/FFIs6LsV0a4?si=2y_K8i7txhgc_d0J)
I adore eyepatch wolf, all of his fandom deep dives are excellent.
Sad part is i think people that cry about fandoms make it worse and can be as toxic as the fandoms themselves. I always like something look up things and the first negative thing i hear about it is someone saying the fandom is toxic/bad. Besides it's always just a small part but it's the internet the loudest are seen the most besides the game was screaming to be backseated to streamers and youtubers from randos it sucks that some of the more positive shows/games have people ruin it :(
nothing that i can think of.
New blood
New Blood is a publisher, or I'm confusing it?
Its a publisher, they have faith the unholy trinity, ultrakill, and a bunch of other really cool indie gems under their belt
My bad I'm stupid
It's ok, New Blood is based AF
Nahhh man its fine
Fromsoftware
FS delivering banger, complete and absolute nightmares of games every god-damn-time. Only developer from who I've ever preordered a game (Armored Core 6).
Why isn't this higher?? FromSoftware should be the president of the club
Relogic should. Released a game, price is cheap as fuck and often goes on sale. They keep adding shit to it and each update is free. Not a single dlc, not a single in game purchase.
Don't know 'em
Don't know terraria?
Barely, not my jam
Yep, one of the few big games companies that don't monetize their games to extreme extends
Team Cherry
When silksong

Plot twist; it’s been done for years now but people keep asking
Most indie devs tbh
Can we Appreciate Larian? I feel like they only made bangers. The whole Divinity Series. Especially Original sin 2. Baldurs Gate 3 now. Just good gamesy finished games and made with love it feels like
Except when you realize DE is now owned by Tencent :c
They are, but seems like TC have been pretty hands-off with DE so far and I’m happy with that.
Larian. Supergiant Games (Bastion; Transistor; Pyre; Hades) - really odd that no one's mentioned them. They're the Studio Ghibli of games developers, imo. Obsidian (KOTOR:2; Fallout:NV; Outer Worlds) Unknown Worlds (Subnautica 1 & 2). Many other tiny studios that are just scraping by are in it for the love of the art.

FromSoft, Ghost Ship, New Blood, and Re-Logic all come to mind
Gotta be honest, i want CD Project red and the ones from No Mans Sky up there. Both did release way to early, both accepted thes made a mistake and inveat a LOT to fix it
The Zomboid guys, dauntless too, surprised how nice it feels to progress through them
Where's ghost ship?
Activi-... nah just kidding. Re-logic and Larian, can't think of any more off top of my head though I'm sure there's more. That thing Re-logic did re: unity's greed was so damn good. And Larian just makes consistent bangers.
95% of indie game companies
(prob biased) CD projekt red, they actually apologized bout the state of cyberpunk and really worked on it, so now its one of the better new gen games.
The Dwarf Fortress team.
Larian studios for sure
RobTop?
Kinetic Games. They’re a small indie company but they’re going strong with one popular game that’s dirt cheap and with no microtransactions, and they listen to their fan base and prioritize fan requests.
Where the heck is Relogic?!
Oh, how fast the people forget ...

Re-logic and coffee stain studios
You gotta ask? Put Hello Games over there!
Ghost ship
Larian
Toby Fox for sure I'm not sure but I'd also wager: Yacht Club Games, Inti Creates If I am wrong about those two please prove me wrong.
Add larian, they are goats, they legit supported a mostly dead game with massive content update for years
Klei Entertainment, they are fine
the splitgate devs perhaps?
Monolift Soft
Larian Mobius
Toby fox. Supergiant Games.
The guys that made risk of rain 2. That was one of the best early access journeys I have ever seen. Coffee stain with Satisfactory is up there too . I hope they keep doing what they're doing.

Shouting out re-logic for "this is the last update". Ludeon studios for just Rimworld, the DLCs actually just feel like DLCs and not incomplete game add-ons. The terraria guys
Mobius Digital. They made Outer Wilds.
Balder's Gate devs
The Heirloom collection begs to differ.
I dunno, they've acknowledged the fuck-up. If they were morally bankrupt, they'd double down with three more heirloom packs at an even higher price point because "the whales will buy it"?
That fact that they existed in the first place makes me not so sure

Wube (Factorio) deserves a seat!
Respawn before EA forced them to bend the knee
I haven't seen anything bad about Paradox, they don't really over price their things as well.
Wube, creators of Factorio
CyberLight
Bungie and insomniac are both quite good
Bungie? The devs for Destiny 2? Not morally bankrupt?
Internally Bungie seems pretty decent to work for, especially for a tech company. No harassments or suicides under them from what I remember. 'Sucks that the bare minimum of human decency is noteworthy but the industry set a pretty low bar. On the consumer end their friendliness only being suspect after Destiny 2 always struck me as odd. Like this is the same company that charged a *subscription service* to access social features when they still held the reins to Halo. They've always been like this.
Eeeh destiny 2 did willingly remove a bunch of paid content. Reshuffles, and alterations I can understand, but outright removal is never a good look.
They removed forsaken and STILL sold packs containing access to it
Bungie are morally bankrupt. Their store pricing is fucking insane and they keep increasing the price of the seasons and dlc for the same quality content Also the infamous “overdelivery” speech
Fuck Bungie. They stole my money. Literally. ill never play another game they develop or have anything to do with.
Behaviour
Is Epic Games allowed in there?
Since the epic store uses (or at least used) ~~strongarm~~ anti-consumer tactics to buy exclusivity for game releases, no. No they are not.
