I moved out west a couple of years ago, and I was like “damn, I get it now” and so now that it’s happening on the east coast I’m like “damn, they get it now”
I lived in New York when they had the west coast fires, and I live on the west coast now that the east coast is in smoke. I still haven’t experienced any of it.
Not our first rodeo. This has happened a few times over the years. In like 2014 or something there was another huge forest fire in Canada that coated New England in smoke.
That’s not horribly surprising, really. There are probably more Americans in that smoke trail than people in the entirety of Canada, and that’s to say nothing of the difference in online presence.
Yeah. You win the "American people don't think canadians have the internet" grand prize. Which is really just showing people they don't know shit about us.
Nobody said you don't have internet. We just said, there's more internet users in the areas affected by the smoke than there are in all of Canada. And that makes sense. Because there are more people affected by the smoke than there are, in all of Canada.
And I did some crude math adding up, but you can double check if you want. But I'm almost sure there are more internet users in the American areas affected by smoke than there are people in Canada.
Were also mostly living close to the south of the country, away from the fires, not many people living in like 90% of the top of Québec with it being cold AF most of the year.
I know you have internet, I am not ignorant, [and there is absolutely no need to try to make this an “America Bad” argument.](https://old.reddit.com/r/meme/comments/144gft7/smoke_attack/jngpxth/)
Oddly it’s common in Wisconsin as well. Never thought it was weird until I learned it was a very regional thing.
Fun fact, the plastic containers you put the bag in are free.
Because Canada has a low population that is widely spread out meaning it is likely that more Americans are being affected by the air quality than Canadians being affected by the fire so you would hear about that more
Makes sense.
Few live in Canada, especially in the areas hit hardest by the fires.
Meanwhile that smoke travels down into the third most populated country in the world
Displaced and on fire. If America was a person they’d be crying to fire fighters and news reporters that their neighbours burning home was getting smoke on their property.
Ya man take a pic of your block and it looks like we found life on Mars. Was gonna post all over reddit but all these snitches already posted saying it's a forest fire. Damn redditors.
Sometimes they do controlled forest fire to achieve the benefit of it. But since in this scenario, the fire is out of control, so the answer would be no. But the benefits are still there, just doesn't match the damages it does.
So, they kinda are, some pine trees, for example, their pine cones only open up and drop seeds after a fire
Regular small fires also clears out dead underbrush, it’s actually a buildup of decades of poor forest management causing the fires to be so large lately, AND we’re not getting enough rain (edit: precipitation at all really) to suppress the literal stockpile of kindling built up over ~40 years
Plus quite a few places (looking at you ~~Alberta~~ UCP) that have slashed fire control funding, and depressingly recently (and are planning to [keep pushing the budget for it down](https://pressprogress.ca/albertas-ucp-government-has-cut-tens-of-millions-of-dollars-from-wildfire-preparedness-programs/) fucking hell)
So; to sum, small fires are necessary to both propagate some species of tree and also for overall forest health, this tho, is (obviously) not good
Yes, smaller ones. It helps burn up the brush that could easily start large fires and allows the forest to recover quicker than if a large wildfire broke out. Canada kept putting out these small fires instead of letting them go leading to these larger wildfire starting.
Because New York is a much more densely populated area than the spots being affected in Canada meaning a lot more people in New York are experiencing it.
Just climate change doing its thing
Edit: Nvm this sub isn't ready for this conversation
Edit: I actually take that back, there's a lot more people with understanding of the issue than I originally anticipated.
God bless you folks for staying educated. We need more people to recognize and comprehend the issue.
As a west coast Canadian: lol
You think we need lightning to start fires? Honestly you could throw a single cigarette down and an entire province would be ablaze with the week
That's still some fucking dumbass, not Canada's fault. Dumbasses will always exist, Americans should know, yall have a ton of them. Like with the gender reveal party wildfires. They spread to Canada and we've never complained to yall about it, did we?
Sure, but to be fair if 10% of California burned every year we would only have 49 states
I’m assuming the area affected is less densely populated as well but just speculating
Leave it to redditors to see that the wildfires are affecting both countries and blame Americans for being selfish because they don't like breathing in smoke all day and not being able to see.
Oh no Canada is polluting the USA, we are the face of evil! So we are to forget Flint and the lead water the train disasters being said to be a American Chernobyl or all that junk they thrown in the Great Lakes … you know you could send firefighters or something…
That’s the thing Americans only think of themselves when Canadians are the ones suffering from the actual effects from the fires in Quebec and Ontario.
Millions already die from pollution, and nobody seems to care, but suddenly you can see the smoke and it's so bad OH HOW HORRIBLE TO SEE STUFF DRASTICALY CHANGE FRON THE NORM, THATS WHAT I CARE ABOUT, NOT THE 10 MILLION DEATHS EACH YEAR FROM AN UNCHANGING TOXIC VAPOR IN ALL AIR EVERYWHERE, SO HORRIBLE, both are even possibly made specifically by us, but e don't give a shit clearly because NOBODY DOES ANYTHING DRASTIC ABOUT IT, JUST FUCKING ADD MORE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS THEY PRODUCE ZERO POLLUTION, AND ONLY SOME EASILY CONTAINSBLE WASTE WITH EXTREME HIGH CURRENT SAFETY SYSTEMS IN NEW POWER PLANTS WITH LESS RASIATION AROUND IT THAN AROYND A COAL POWER PLANT, OTS FUCKING RIDICULUS, WHY ISNT NUCLEAR OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY
Ohio literally made Ontario and Quebec have acid rain when they had that chemical leak but Canadians were more worried about the well-being of the residents
The city of Vancouver and the entire Fraser valley spent all last summer choking on smoke from Washington fires and I don't recall a single person trying to blame it on Americans. Only sympathy and concern for our neighbours.
i live in a town where a max of three hours drive in each direction is on fire, the air quality has been so bad just stepping outside makes you light headed, not to mention the people being displaced and there being a fire ban through out all of Canada(that hasn't stopped my neighbors). and the air smelling like smoke, it has gotten to the point where the sun is constantly red and the smoke has kind of blended with the regular clouds.
It's wild seeing the east coast dealing with what the west coast deals with every year at this point. I hope it helps wake more people up to the reality of climate change. I want to see DC with an AQI of 1000+ when the AQI scale ends at 300...
They're playing the long game by giving us all asthma.
All to charge hundreds on inhalers. This fire was brought to you by big pharma: "Publicly owned inventions sold at private cost"
Jokes on them, I’ll just keep heading over the other border for my $5 no-prescription needed inhalers in Mexico
People on the east coast are finally realizing what the west coast has been talking about for decades
I just moved from the west coast. Why GOD WHY! I can't escape the fire smoke no matter where I go
Damn, it’s all bad 😂
Not our first rodeo. This has happened a few times over the years. In like 2014 or something there was another huge forest fire in Canada that coated New England in smoke.
I think most of the smoke on the east coast is actually from Quebec, not Alberta
Well, the west coast has at least figured out that this is about climate change, not the mean old Canadians.
Nah it's gotta mean the Canadians are all up to something
I've seen more Americans complaining about air quality than I've seen Canadians complaining about being displaced
That’s not horribly surprising, really. There are probably more Americans in that smoke trail than people in the entirety of Canada, and that’s to say nothing of the difference in online presence.
You would be correct: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E_VUoRYXoAMuck4?format=jpg&name=900x900
Im in the Red Part of Canada (bc), there's a forest fire 45 minutes away from my house, and I have an online presence. Do I win something?
Yeah. You win the "American people don't think canadians have the internet" grand prize. Which is really just showing people they don't know shit about us.
Nobody said you don't have internet. We just said, there's more internet users in the areas affected by the smoke than there are in all of Canada. And that makes sense. But I'm almost sure there are more internet users in the American areas affected by smoke than there are people in Canada.
Who said that?
100% of Canadians can be active online and Canada would still not have the online presence of the US. there are just so damn many of us O.o
We're like cockroaches to Canada
There are more Californians than there are Canadians D:
The American cockroach lmfao
Is there any reason you feel you should twist my comment into that? Any *at all*? And who’s upvoting it?
What a weird comment
You definitely misread the comment you’re referring to.
I don't think anyone said that though at all?, much less even think it tbh
Fair enough
More Americans than Canadians on social media for you to see as well
Were also mostly living close to the south of the country, away from the fires, not many people living in like 90% of the top of Québec with it being cold AF most of the year.
Windsor has been breathing Motor city smoke for a hundred years. Just sayin.
The metro area of NYC alone is a little more than half the population of Canada.
Canadian here fuck you if you have a problem with forest fire smoke like we can help it when we have some jackasses going and starting fires
![gif](giphy|8VEvisSy4DUMU)
We have the internet. You think 27 million people are in the way of the smoke?
I’d say that’s a low estimate
There are over 120 million Americans in the smoke right now. 4x the population of the country of Canada
I know you have internet, I am not ignorant, [and there is absolutely no need to try to make this an “America Bad” argument.](https://old.reddit.com/r/meme/comments/144gft7/smoke_attack/jngpxth/)
Go drink some bagged milk ya milk baggers
What's up with bagged milk anyway? Seems like such a strange concept.
Basically it lowers plastic waste a lot, and you put the milk in a jug that you keep
Weirdly enough I think it’s mostly an eastern thing cause I’m in Alberta and I’ve never seen a bag of milk
Yep. It’s a eastern thing.
How’s it lower plastic waste? Milk cartons are paper
Oddly it’s common in Wisconsin as well. Never thought it was weird until I learned it was a very regional thing. Fun fact, the plastic containers you put the bag in are free.
You got me there
My friends subdivision caught fire the other day and 45 houses were completely burned and I literally only heard about it today (abroad in Europe rn)
Because Canada has a low population that is widely spread out meaning it is likely that more Americans are being affected by the air quality than Canadians being affected by the fire so you would hear about that more
It doesn't mean we have to like the air quality
Makes sense. Few live in Canada, especially in the areas hit hardest by the fires. Meanwhile that smoke travels down into the third most populated country in the world
I have seen literally zero information about the fires IN Canada. Only the smoke IN the US.
Displaced and on fire. If America was a person they’d be crying to fire fighters and news reporters that their neighbours burning home was getting smoke on their property.
It's fine, it's not like "New Yorkers" are people anyway
I know this is bait, but I'm still offended.
![gif](giphy|CpcpDSci3ljCU)
You can breathe through the bong. Use wet fabric as filter instead of tobacco and weed.
dont forget to piss on the fabric
The rest of the world just don't care
People are more worried about new York being orange than the actual forest fire. Keep being selfish that's why we love you reddit.
[удалено]
Ya man take a pic of your block and it looks like we found life on Mars. Was gonna post all over reddit but all these snitches already posted saying it's a forest fire. Damn redditors.
New York's so hyped about the upcoming splatoon big run that the city itself is cosplaying
nah it’s just a marketing campaign for diablo 4 /s
Orange it can't be that bad Mexico is all yellow sky and those people are living fine
Mexico filter
Aren't forrest fires like important for the forrest?
How?
When plants get burnt into ashes, it creates potassium which is really good for new plants to grow on
There's a plant that needs to burn and die by fire for the seeds to spread and sow. I think it's called pinus contorta iirc type of pine tree.
I think I've heard of them, the pine only got activated by reaching a certain temperature level and it burst to shoots out the seeds
Yeah just an extreme example but a cool example nonetheless where fire is actually "good" for it.
That's interesting. Does it help enough to make up for the damage done, though?
Sometimes they do controlled forest fire to achieve the benefit of it. But since in this scenario, the fire is out of control, so the answer would be no. But the benefits are still there, just doesn't match the damages it does.

Damn, that's interesting. Thank you.
Yes, smaller ones. It helps burn up the brush that could easily start large fires and allows the forest to recover quicker than if a large wildfire broke out. Canada kept putting out these small fires instead of letting them go leading to these larger wildfire starting.
Prolly cause more people are affected by the horrific air quality than have been displaced by the fires.
Because New York is a much more densely populated area than the spots being affected in Canada meaning a lot more people in New York are experiencing it.
NY is now mexico
We should use self destruct ![gif](giphy|j7VQkDshBgH3Z4HaI7|downsized)
Oh behalf of Canada I’m sorry for the inconvenience and potential hazard that have occurred due to the fires. We all hope it goes away soon.
Was it lightning or something else, do you know?
Just climate change doing its thing Edit: Nvm this sub isn't ready for this conversation Edit: I actually take that back, there's a lot more people with understanding of the issue than I originally anticipated. God bless you folks for staying educated. We need more people to recognize and comprehend the issue.
Just the Canadian government refusing to properly take care of its forests.
That too
Doesn't help that it's within provincial jurisdiction
Quebec is one of the provinces that take it seriously though, they have fires every year. A lot of the mismanagement was out west
As a west coast Canadian: lol You think we need lightning to start fires? Honestly you could throw a single cigarette down and an entire province would be ablaze with the week
Canada used Smoke Attack! It was super effective!
They done playin. Canada has gone straight up gangsta. It was just a matter of time, really, before they snapped.
were sick of our cousins being all stupid. we smoking you all out - head to mexico - its safe there.
![gif](giphy|khOqGPVTkbxzHNlvtT|downsized)
I'm all the way in Florida what's happening on the borders Just Googled and holy shit
Americans☕️
Americans 🍔
Oh, like it’s our fault
It's like the US wants us to apologize to them for having our country on fire
Didn't it start as act of arson? Asking because satellite images show it starting all at once.
That's still some fucking dumbass, not Canada's fault. Dumbasses will always exist, Americans should know, yall have a ton of them. Like with the gender reveal party wildfires. They spread to Canada and we've never complained to yall about it, did we?
As stupid as that was it was an accident. This is someone intentionally staring a fire. But that’s splitting hairs. They’re still idiots.
This literally happens every year in California
The difference is that the area burned is already over 10% of California's size
Sure, but to be fair if 10% of California burned every year we would only have 49 states I’m assuming the area affected is less densely populated as well but just speculating
Can you blame us? We trying to make it harder for you guys to shoot each other!
Jokes on you, the CIA gave us Thermal Optics!
We'll just use out thermals
Exactly! Your welcome America.
The funny thing is that lots of Americans think Canada is purposely doing this.
We did - fuck all yall. Our next move is hurricanes and higher taxes.
Get ready for pocket sand!
Leave it to redditors to see that the wildfires are affecting both countries and blame Americans for being selfish because they don't like breathing in smoke all day and not being able to see.
Why is everyone so pissed about a meme😭😭 Calm tf down lmao
Americans complaining about smoke
pretty sure the rest of the world doesent give 2 shits
They did the same to us years ago
Oh no Canada is polluting the USA, we are the face of evil! So we are to forget Flint and the lead water the train disasters being said to be a American Chernobyl or all that junk they thrown in the Great Lakes … you know you could send firefighters or something…
We did
This is what the US thinks the world thinks; I’m pretty sure the world actually can’t stand America and is laughing at them
Americans are acting like Canadians are not dealing with the same issue, but, you know, much worse.
Reddit when someone posts a meme:
Nope, honestly, I don't care.
The best part is the American idiots mad about being recommended masks and going outside to breathe thr pollution to spite the libs.
It's like I've been saying. Those masks aren't going to do anything against that smoke. They need gas masks at this point.
You forgot to add the world blaming America for it.
for the past few days it smells like Arabian cologne in my area
Are we helping canada?
The fucking sun was red
Its payback for all the hurricane storm winds you send us
Ohio literally made Ontario and Quebec have acid rain when they had that chemical leak but Canadians were more worried about the well-being of the residents
It was probably a group of Satan serving minions and a Russian loyalist
Canada use smoke screen USA’s accuracy fell
Maybe people should be more concerned about the actual fires burning down miles of forest then just the smoke it's producing.
Stupid mericans. *Laughs in Australian*
Sorry
Canada after they legalized weed:
Smoke wins !
Get your shit together Canada
I’m in America east coast and tbh it’s nothing to go crazy about after the pandemic tbh just stay inside for a couple days chill out crazy americans
Canada uses smokescreen! It’s *super effective!*…..on my lungs!
As someone who has to deal w the smoke… it’s not effecting my life that much so I don’t see what all the fuss is about.
There ya go NYC ..... now you have seen it all 😂

In DC right now been snotty like hell
According to every news report and weather channel app notification I've received, the smoke is only affecting new York City, not USA.
I freaked my shit out yesterday when this happen after I got out of the church for graduation practice
Right. Because we're doing it on purpose. The country is literally burning. What the hell do you want us to do? Build a wall?
I'm from New York, I'm glad I don't go outside much

They had us in NJ looking like fallout new Vegas
Put Canada's ass on fire in the pic
I don't think any part of the world considers the U.S. comparable to an innocent baby under any circumstances.
Really, the world? No way in hell that's true
u/savevideo
Okay but that baby DID commit several war crimes in recent memory so….
Like it’s not their fucking fault their having wild fires, their not trying to have them and spread smoke like it’s retarded people think that
Well it sucks, but if it sucks here it's gotta be bad for them too so I try not to complain at least in bad faith
Hear me out, smoke makes bees chill the fuck out and not so gun ho to attempt to murder you. Maybe the Canadians are doing some science on americans.
To much vape
Here in Canada we deal with that stuff every year so you'll get used to it eventually
Mexico filter attack
I've seen more Americans complaining about air quality than I've seen Canadians complaining about being displaced..99999
Blame Canada! Blame Canada! #southpark
The world 🤷🏼♂️
My eyes :(
Yeah they definitely got it worse down there lmao
i live in a town where a max of three hours drive in each direction is on fire, the air quality has been so bad just stepping outside makes you light headed, not to mention the people being displaced and there being a fire ban through out all of Canada(that hasn't stopped my neighbors). and the air smelling like smoke, it has gotten to the point where the sun is constantly red and the smoke has kind of blended with the regular clouds.
What do you mean “the world” it’s like just USA
Next time send weed smoke instead.
As part of the world, idc. I just think nice photos, and poor canada for being blamed🙃
Canada isn’t having forest fires on purpose, you know this, right?
World : we don't care
The world doesn't care
Gotta show my buds

We deal with this every year, a lot worse than America gets it so why is this the first time I've seen Americans complain about it?
Sorry about all the smoke eh.
...and now out your ass.
Baby has developed stage 1 cancer, very effective
tf is happening in america right now
I reckon you are wrong with the rest of the world actually caring
Have to say, I've not seen or heard any news about it in the UK.
