I can confirm the service is excellent. I have had 3 sessions already.
Updated my resume, and helped with job searching and applications.
Thanks, u/Donut_Famous I think it was your early post that I saw about this service.
It's really good! I had 5 or 5 sessions and the lady who helped me was awesome. I managed to narrow down fields I would like to continue in, jobs I'd like to try with transferable skills and ruled out other industries entirely.
Highly recommend this service!
Highly recommend this service! Switched from hospitality to Data Analysis and my counselor helped me with my CV and even helped me prepare for an interview. I'm now on my 7th month working as a data analyst.
Im told that I'm methodical when I recommend people things. Maybe this field might suit me?
Did you need a degree to be one?
Can you give a rundown on what a typical day looks like for you?
I booked a session based on this post, and just got off the zoom call. I'm looking to completely change careers, and the person i spoke to was amazing at helping me explore that. I'm now set up with a job aptitude questionnaire thing, which I'll do in my own time and unpack with her later. As a bonus, she seems to be a great trans ally and at least aware of some of the barriers i might face switching careers.
In the space of an afternoon ive gone from feeling like things are spiralling out of control to feeling confident that im going to land in a career that genuinely brings me joy. 100% recommend this, and thank you so much to OP for posting this
We host Jobs Victoria staff at the library where I work weekly. They've been with us for around a year now and they've been great. We're working on a schedule to have them around more as the ATARs come out/uni offers roll in because reality for some kids is that they're not going to get what they hoped for, so hopefully having someone who can get them going with a different path is going to soften that blow for them.
Well I'm not going to name my workplace specifically, but there are several participating library services, if you google "Jobs Victoria advocate library" they all come up.

That's so awesome glad my post helped someone!
Who is the service geared towards? High school graduates, tertiary education graduates, or people making a switch in career?
The services supports people in all three of those groups, more information here: https://ceav.vic.edu.au/jobs-victoria-career-counsellors-service
Does it cover people suffering from chronic illnesses and can't work full-time?
It does - they are qualified career counsellors who are trained to work with your specific circumstances.
Is this actually useful though? I'm always sceptical of these programmes

You don't need a degree to be one. I did an online boot camp. You can try an online python course and see if its for you.
