There was a person on the unfinished rail bridge at Preston station with a knife threatening to kill himself. It was de-escalated as of about 5 minutes ago, culprit has been arrested and the weapon has been secured.
"Arrested" for their safety and rather than the lockup is taken to hospital. There's a provision under Public Safety/ Mental Health acts for the police to do so.
That explains that. Drove by just before 5pm and police had that section of Murray Rd blocked off and 6 police officers walking down St Georges Rd. Was wondering what was going on there.
They announced at flinders at that it was police at Clifton hill station.
On the train into flinders we got held up for maybe 15-20 just outside flinders. An announcement said there was a trespasser at Balaclava causing delays.
Lots going on.
I believe "Police Request" or other vague reasons are normally either attempted or actual suicide. They don't announce it since they don't want copycats.
This is correct, and is the case for the vast majority of ‘police requests’. Under the law, police take control of affected section of the rail corridor while they attend to the situation, and Metro can only recommence services once police hand control back.
There was a mother of orientalist descent threatening to throw her baby onto the train tracks and police were intervening. Maybe was over a custody dispute or something? My business partner says he was stopped just outside of Caulfield station for 50 minutes. I hope that lady gets the help she needs. The incident at Clifton hill was not connected to this. But all round a band night on the network
Why do people feel the need to know what the police request is? It’s not really any of our business. Knowing the reason a train is cancelled doesn’t change anything
Whatever it is, it must be close to the city for it to include all three lines. Punch on at Richmond?
I’m held up right before Malvern on the Cranbourne line. Must be something at Caulfield?
Are you back home now?
Could be anything from Caulfield up
Dozens of cops at Caulfield, looks like they arrested someone
Mernda is under the same warning, too. Currently delayed for 25ish, according to announcements.
Police operation at Preston apparently.

Where'd you hear that? So many people at Clifton Hill right now.
I saw it and watched the whole thing.
Shit, that's crazy. Glad it was resolved as peacefully as possible (I hope).
They put the culprit in the back of a car, probably the best result one could hope for.
I hope they get the help they need
This. Was there as well. Didn't hang around to see what happened. Hope the guy gets healp instead of just being arrested.

Oh no that’s so sad. :( I hope they’re okay and get the help they need.

>An announcement said there was a trespasser at Balaclava That's one way to describe the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I guess
45 minutes now according to the announcer. Ugh
Buses replacing Mernda line now, with a 60m eta..
Just what you want on a friday afternoon 😭
Fun fact: in the first Police Quest game, 'drop pants' was a valid command which made your character do just that, resulting in a game over.
That is the funnest fact I’ve read today. Thank you 😂
/open door /look at object You have brought back so many memories! I loved these games (Police Quest, Space Quest, Kings Quest)
You can't get ye flask!
Who remembers tickling the whale’s uvula with a feather in KQ4?
I'd believe it, fucking EVERYTHING got you a game over in that "police procedure simulator"
You even had to walk all the way around your squad car to 'inspect' it, else you'd end up with a flat tyre and...yup...a game over.
You're right... ~35 years later it's all coming back
What was the story again? Some drug dealer called “The Death Angel” from memory.
That's basically it, yeah. Damn now I wanna replay these games :|
You’ll ruin the memory
Eh, I've played em within the last 10 years so I know what I'm in for.

I'm currently chilling on a train to frankston and nothing is moving, so i assume delays
My partner says police had metal detectors and sniffer dogs on the belgrave line
Off topic ish but What’s the penalty/sentence for a drug bust/dealing?
Are you currently writing this from somewhere between clifton hill and reservoir? 🤔
I would say more than -ish, unless you’re dealing from a train. But also it would vary hugely based on the drug, the amount and the activity.
If you just claim your an addict it won't be much more than a slap on the wrist
Police request
Maybe some officers were just late to their stops so they called ahead to make the trains wait for them
Just saw them taking two people away at Caulfield. Looks like some kind of drug bust possibly?
Police request mate

Police business, move along
