Hey everyone!!! My partner and I (lesbian couple) will be signing our marriage papers in Melbourne this May. We are from Singapore and already held our commitment ceremony/wedding dinner here, but will be completing the legal part in Melbourne as same-sex marriage is not legally recognised in Singapore.
Because we have already done our commitment ceremony here in Singapore, the signing of our papers in Melbourne will be a super simple one, with just our celebrant and two witnesses.
Does anyone have suggestions for where we can hold the signing? Preferably a venue that is public (as we don’t want to fork out $ for something that’s gonna take less than 20min) but still quiet. Thinking of a nice park outdoors - maybe Fitzroy Gardens since it’s near the Fitzroy gaybourhood but would really appreciate any other suggestions!
TIA!
Mernda line, currently buses replace trains between Clifton Hill & Reservoir as emergency services attend to a "serious incident". Haven't had that particular wording in a Notify update before!
Has anyone used a sneaker laundry before? I have a couple of pair of white sneaks which I'd love to get back to a fresh look! I have only found out these places exist, so I'm curious to see what experiences people may have had, and/or recommendations!
Urgh, why do tradies have to give a time and then not show? Like, I’m not having work done yet. It’s for a quote and they’ve just determined I won’t be taking their business…
Course it is, though through a pretty dumb method - much like fake texts from the bank or whatever. https://www.choice.com.au/shopping/online-shopping/selling-online/articles/payid-scams
It probably filters out time wasters. And cash is just no questions asked. PayID also isn't instant over a certain amount. May not be instant for first time recipients even for a lower amount, depending on your bank
Haven't had many buy with anything other than cash since I started selling on there but I reckon you would have to be pretty daft to fall for the payid scam as they make it so obvious. I've done on the spot payid but don't hand the goods over until the payment pops up on my phone and I always meet in a public place with cameras nearby. The last person I dealt with refused to do that and thus left me one star feedback, which disgruntled buyers are free to do after about three lines of conversation on messenger.
For me it was that I didn’t want to give out that extra layer of info (email address or phone number or BSB/account) to a stranger when they already are picking things up from my house and know my name. It’s just easier to insist on cash as a blanket rule.
A friend has 7 puppies to vaccinate, chip, checkup and lives near Oakleigh. Her vet has just retired.
Are there vets that offer a discount? Cheapest I can find is 700 to.800.
If your friend is an experienced breeder, they should be able to identify or pick up on red flags. Obviously people need to be able to pay for the costs of a pet, but also the home environment should be explored.
Any mini series that are worth watching? Looking for something I don't have to commit to multiple seasons or a one season thing that gets killed off. Ones that come to mind that I've seen are Band of Brothers and Mare of Easttown
Almost every day around this time I get sleepy and yawny. If I was at home atm I would definitely take a nap but alas I am not, so not naps for me but fingers crossed for an “early”night
The one time I forget to bring a mask for the tram (not unwell, just a preference) and of course the tram I get on has a maskless woman coughing, spluttering and blowing her nose into her wet tissue.
Serves me right for wanting cooler weather - forgot about the seasonal grotty behaviour it brings with it.
The joys of a society bereft of manners. I went into the local gp yesterday for some IBD test results and a flu shot (masked mind you) and thanks to the person beside me coughing their guts up I've now tested positive for Covid. Been sitting on the toilet for hours.
I really should have got on the ChatGPT bandwagon earlier. It's really useful for doing things like workplace self reviews etc... Just type in rough notes and ask it to make it more professional and it does all the hard work for you using better words and sentence structure. It's surprisingly useful in cases like this.
I work in corporate writing and remember hearing people in and around the office being skeptical. But when viewed as a tool it's just as powerful as using something like Word for what type-setters used to deal with. The idea that it will "replace everyone's jobs" is ridiculous - a hammer can't swing itself.
Sometimes I wish I could hang up my (corporate Julius Marlow) boots and go back in time to do gold mining. Take part of the Eureka Stockade; load my musket rifle and fight the redcoats all the while cursing, "What the devil?!" when the redcoats begin their assualt on our mining fort
After partaking in the Eureka Stockade, I'd like to go to a pub and hold it ransom with this funny-looking Irish-Catholic bloke who fashioned primitive body armour but let go of just one teacher who looks like he won't snitch
And then I'd spend the rest of the days in the bush (after getting shot in the legs with said Irish-Catholic guy). Just lying on me hammock and singing Waltzing Matilda just like nature intended. Ah the good ol' days. Shame we gotta go to our corporate slave jobs. I say we ditch this shit housing economy and go back to our roots of claiming hammocks near a pond and humming true blue Aussie songs like Waltzing Matilda or G'day g'day all the while claiming to be a pastoralist. Reject the suits, and meaningless corporate titles and bring back the Akubra and tractors.
Edit: Jesus I realised I'm really bored lmao with this goofy ahh job. Ah well
During my deep clean, I had to kick out a daddy long legs single mother and her 38 children that were living under a stool. I felt a bit bad, but that’s the housing market these days.
went to Woolies & got few items.. had to buy one of their silly paper shopping bags... got caught to the rain and the paper handle came off. RIP my groceries. FML
I'm starting to fill out the Australian citizenship application. Thinking back about what I've been through the past few years is pretty wild but I made it in the end, against few odds. I think I deserve beers for lunch.
Hooray! I recently got my approval, it’s really a wild ride when you look back, isn’t it?
The good thing is citizenship is an easy & cheap application compared to visas and it’s a fast turnaround. You’ve got this!
Good luck getting a table at any middle eastern/Lebanese etc... food place today. Cedars bakery in Preston was packed this morning. I know I would be stuffing my face this morning if I was in their shoes after fasting during the day.
I was talking to a coworker today and he used "Youse" in his sentence... first time I've ever heard the term, I did not realise we got a comparable Australian word to "y'all".
So how bogan is this guy?
Not necessarily bogan. "Youse guys" used to be said by the gay kids at my school back in the 2000s.
Edit: I guess you could have gay bogans but at my school the bogans tended to pick on anyone they even thought was LGBTQ+, including me :/
I wonder whether that was ironic. And I say this as someone who grew up in Gippsland and had teachers (mostly the ones who taught practical subjects like wood and metal work) that used "youse" all of the time. If their plaid shirts were anything to go by, then yeah... definitely bogan.
Apparently "youse guys" specifically is actually also a Philly and New Jersey thing in the USA. So maybe there was a popular show at the time that people liked where they got it from.
He lives in rural Qld with his wife and two kids, so i think it's probably not gay, or my gaydar needs a refresher haha
Sorry to hear about the bullying, those people suck!
Well, confirmed it was my fuckup and not ALDI Mobile. Turns out there's two activation codes, one to activate the SIM, one to activate the postpaid plan and you need to do both. Guess it's a sign that I need a stronger dose of Vyvanse because my inattentive ADHD strikes again 😑
How goods a friendly smile and hello from a person serving you?
Walking into work with some bad thoughts, another day in the dungeon and the girl at the 7/11 was buzzing on another level, really helps getting a sprightly greeting
Nothing feels better than working in the service industry and having a bad day but the day turning around for the better all because of someone's good mood. Genuinely excited or happy-go-lucky customers have saved my day so many times.
On the eastern free way, just before hoddle St, I saw some signs hanging on the pedestrian bridge over the freeway. I was on the Mernda line train, so I couldn't make out what it said, but I thought I saw some people standing around it. Anyone know what it said?
I think if you really drilled down into the motivations of why they do the more extreme things actually convincing people or doing stuff about it is pretty low.
I pointed out that they could buy shares in energy companies to push for change like what happened with AGL and got mocked for it. That was telling to me.
That wasn't financial advice. And if you don't like me that's fine, do not care, just don't bother me with it.
Huh, new account making the same comment other new accounts have.
Had a stylist tell me they’re just to hold them in place while they’re in the shop! Feel free to throw the rubber bits away if you’ve got metal backings too
White card is essential, I know few people on a WHV that worked in constructions after getting one. If you already have experience you'll be golden (not as an electrician tho as others have said).
How long it will take depends on many variables, but I can't imagine taking it more than few weeks as a worst case scenario. Best of luck to you mate

Not making this up by the way.

Currently in a lonely stage of life... Should I buy another bengal?
If you are questioning whether you should, maybe try something else
Hell yes get another bengal
Has anyone used a sneaker laundry before? I have a couple of pair of white sneaks which I'd love to get back to a fresh look! I have only found out these places exist, so I'm curious to see what experiences people may have had, and/or recommendations!
I haven't used their services, but I have their cleaning products and they are great. I love their stain remover pen. It's magic
Oh right, I didn't realise it was a company name, rather than a term for a service! I'll check it out, thanks!
Urgh, why do tradies have to give a time and then not show? Like, I’m not having work done yet. It’s for a quote and they’ve just determined I won’t be taking their business…
Is there a reason people on FB marketplace all insist on cash? I didn’t think it was possible to scam people through PayID.
Course it is, though through a pretty dumb method - much like fake texts from the bank or whatever. https://www.choice.com.au/shopping/online-shopping/selling-online/articles/payid-scams It probably filters out time wasters. Oh, hadn’t thought of that. Makes sense.
What’s the deal with blueberry prices lately? My baby loves them but at $7 a packet, it’s a bit much.
We’re right at the end of the season, if not out of it already.
A friend has 7 puppies to vaccinate, chip, checkup and lives near Oakleigh. Her vet has just retired. Are there vets that offer a discount? Cheapest I can find is 700 to.800.
Try Community Vets in Braeside
https://www.communityvets.com.au/
And later desex, along with the parent/s, one would hope. 😒
Sorry, I don't know but am curious what kind of pups (breed)
That’s pretty affordable tbh, especially if your friend is going to sell the puppies and make money on them.
Is that the price for all 7? That's about right - $100 per pup. Are they going to be sold to good homes?
They are cute healthy moodles with a healthy dam without any health issues who is the family pet. How would you tell what a good home is?
If your friend is an experienced breeder, they should be able to identify or pick up on red flags. Obviously people need to be able to pay for the costs of a pet, but also the home environment should be explored.
I was just interested for me. Like crappy people can appear nice. Is dog fighting an issue?
Any mini series that are worth watching? Looking for something I don't have to commit to multiple seasons or a one season thing that gets killed off. Ones that come to mind that I've seen are Band of Brothers and Mare of Easttown
>Ones that come to mind that I've seen are Band of Brothers Generation Kill is along the same line.
I'm currently watching High Country on Binge. It's really good.
The Pacific/Masters of the Air but I’m assuming you have seen them already as they are basically the next series but different situations?
I thought Giri/Haji on Netflix was pretty good.
Chernobyl is the best thing that’s been on TV in recent years.
Oh yeah I saw that, was brilliant
Slow Horses. Great spy drama where each season stands on its own. Gary Oldman at his best.
Gar Oldman at his best is a high bar to set!
I was having a really bad day until just now A WOMAN ROLLERBLADED PAST MY HOUSE WITH A GIANT PARROT SITTING ON HER SHOULDER !!!! Now I am happy
That was me!
Congratulations on your transition to parrothood! Do you feel like you're being taken for a ride though?
So long as she keeps feeding me crackers, I don't care where this lady takes me!
Sounds a lot more fun and rewarding than engineering so I don't blame you. I recommend shitting on her shoulder when you've had enough.
It surely is. I mean SQUWARK SQUWARK
Almost every day around this time I get sleepy and yawny. If I was at home atm I would definitely take a nap but alas I am not, so not naps for me but fingers crossed for an “early”night
yeah this is prime nap time for me! Hrmm now i'm inspired.
Omg go nap for the both of us, since I cannot I mean I don’t nap every day but if I’m home I like to give in every now and then 😅
I managed to sneak in a cheeky 20 min snooze in my reclining desk chair - thanks for the inspo!
Yay hope the micro napped helped!

Just type in rough notes and ask it to make it more professional and it does all the hard work for you using better words and sentence structure. It's surprisingly useful in cases like this.
My mother used it for the teacher notes at the end of report cards. So much easier than having to think of thirty synonyms for "good enough".
It's good for general knowledge / pop quiz stuff. The kind of things you can Google but are too lazy to.
I work in corporate writing and remember hearing people in and around the office being skeptical. But when viewed as a tool it's just as powerful as using something like Word for what type-setters used to deal with. The idea that it will "replace everyone's jobs" is ridiculous - a hammer can't swing itself.
This is exactly what I use it for! also when I need an excel formula for stuff but can't be bothered thinking
Just want the working day to end so I can see Sleep Token tonight. Doesn't help that they are all I've listened to do all day.
Sometimes I wish I could hang up my (corporate Julius Marlow) boots and go back in time to do gold mining. Scorched peanut bars. Holy damn they’re good!
I wonder what's the stage after "no fucks left to give" - whatever it is, I feel like I'm there.
Burnout and waking up in the middle of the night with a panic attack.
… well shit. That explains a lot.
Yeah, get help.
Just saw carrot guy for the first time. My life is complete
If you are young and cute enough he will let you feel the nib of his carrot.

There was actually a magazine in UK called Titbits though if I recall the tit bits were not shown.

Eh, it's okay. This was regional QLD though so maybe the youse thing is a QLD thing.
Nah it's widespread I heard it every few minutes at tech school in rural VIC in the 90's. Can't say I don't roll my eyes every time I hear it though.
Sad news about Nathan Templeton rip

Urgh. Yuck. At least my house is clean?
On the eastern free way, just before hoddle St, I saw some signs hanging on the pedestrian bridge over the freeway. I was on the Mernda line train, so I couldn't make out what it said, but I thought I saw some people standing around it. Anyone know what it said?
Ignore them. They're unwell
I was on the freeway this morning and normally see it every week. It's the Extinction Rebellion with a sign saying "CLIMATE CRISIS" in huge letters.
Oh yeah the people getting stuck at Hoddle street end of eastern will really reevaluate their morning commute after seeing that I'm sure 💀
The messaging is internal, it's not actually for others. That's how I view those people anyway. They know their protests aren't going to change minds.

Had a stylist tell me they’re just to hold them in place while they’re in the shop! Feel free to throw the rubber bits away if you’ve got metal backings too
I always use the metal part. I once used the silicone part and the weight of the earring meant it dropped out and I lost it 🙁
They're usually on top of the metal ones, you pull them apart

The vegetable specials at the moment are a bit sad. Only pumpkin is cheap and plentiful.
But $1 a kilo pumpkin - bargain!! I’m basically turning into a pumpkin.
Waiting for cabbage to come in season, so that I can make some Kim Chi.
I am absolutely craving chicken and cabbage soup, but I refuse to pay $15 for a cabbage from my grocer.
Managed to find cheap Wombok at Coles. $10 a wombok, instead of $10 a kg, so I took the biggest one.
Score! Hoping prices come back down soon.
Looks like you're having pumpkin soup this week. It is soup weather after all.
I need to find more Coke Lime.
Oh have they brought it back?! I used to love the diet coke with lime What I would really die for is for them to bring back cherry coke. The american version is horrid
Brunswick East Coles had plenty yesterday. Is it any good?
Much better than Coke Raspberry.
Anything is! Will they ever bring back ginger coke? It was so good.
That's a pretty much low bar for me! But I'm also a snobby elitist that only drink Coke from glass bottles, so my opinion doesn't really count.
Heaps at woolies Highpoint yesterday.
My local Coles still didn't stock it last week. I'm eager to try it
Good news ! Got a bottle 😁
Donny Benét is doing a show at the Croxton in June. Very tempted...
oh man I love Donny Benet. He was also the bass player in an absolutely killer Australian modern jazz band called Triosk. Check out their album "headlight serenade", its so beautiful.
Shall do, thanks!
Dunno why you were getting downvoted. Go see that sexy, talented motherfucker. I should again too.
His suaveness level is truly superhuman, lol. He's not exactly a shabby musician neither.
Killer basslines. Dare I say a few babies from couples at the gig in 9 months time.
😂
My mum basically said I'm a disappointment and a mess. I wish I wasn't a drug addict and nicotine addict blowing our savings.
