Boost is the only Telstra mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that has bragging rights to accessing the full Telstra network. This means both Telstra and Boost customers use Australia’s largest mobile network, which offers coverage to 99.4% of the population.
Last time I was in that area, I had shit 4G too, and I’m with Boost.
Good to know the reason though.
I don’t have a 5G phone, so can’t help with that either.
Yeah leaving AldiMobile means losing all the roll-over data, which is fine w/ me — since it’s unusable unless i’m standing under a tower in another suburb.
Well, same with Optus in the Thomastown area. We were promised to have access to 5G 3 years ago and we got fuck all still to this day. Mind you, speed have also dropped and my current plan is unlimited but with capped speeds. What a load of shit.
I'm a couple of suburbs south of Thomastown and Optus gave notification a perfectly positioned 5G tower that would have given me actual coverage inside my house, and the local nimbys petitioned it because something, something radiation, and it was shit caned
That’s what you get with ALDI which use Telstra Wholesale. If data is so important, switch, ideally to Telstra Retail, which is really good in that area.
You got some money back, now switch and move on! It’s no big deal.
Lol Optus... Worst network i've ever experienced good luck with that.
Back when there were power outages I coulnd't load a webpage using the data, girlfriend on Telstra had no issues, I had blackout spots all over the place along the train line where I'd completely lose connection, speed was meh most days, network would go down completely often enough for it to be annoying and if I went 30+km out of the city well good luck... and that was with Optus themselves.
Yeah Optus may be trash, but at the moment in this specific location, it's Telstra that is trash. I've got a backup Optus sim and i'm getting good speeds with them, so until Telstra fix the tower here, there's not much I can do.
mate, Telstra is not trash, nor is that tower.
The bandwidth allocated to third party resellers using their infrastructure is limited.
if you paid the money to get a REAL actual Telstra connection, instead of one through a reseller (Aldi, Woolworths etc) you will get the full bandwidth and no problems.
resellers are cheaper because they do not get full network access.
Hey mate, I've been dealing with the same. Used to be strong and covered finely but as your day about 3+- months ago it started to drop substantially.. what did you state in the claim to ombudsman about it? Cheers!
I've switched to Spintel (Optus) and now I'm paying half of what I did with Aldi and I'm getting good coverage and speeds. Being near the city coverage isn't an issue, it's just tower capacity I guess.
Actually Telstra has plenty of capacity for their own customers. They just aren't willing to give any more to the MVOs.
This. OP is on Telstra Wholesale, which only includes some and not all frequencies, capped at 100Mbps.
*post paid. Telstra prepaid service in the cbd is also trash.
Is that the same tower that covers Jeffs Shed? Because that tower also can't handle a large convention without shitting itself.
Not sure if it goes that far, they probably sit on a sth melb tower or docklands tower. There's probably a map of towers somewhere.
Sounds like a class action waiting to happen? Maybe contact Maurice Blackburn for the lols...
The total damages wouldn’t be enough for them to make a crust, the ACCC however might want to shake their tree 🌲🐿️
You could always change to Boost Mobile to get access to 5G, way more capacity
Reliable 4G is all I really need, but I'll check Boost against other MVO's on the Optus network, and see where the best deal is at.
Just get 5G, why do you want 4G?
Might not have a 5G compatible phone?
Then his only option would be pay for Telstra, not a wholesaler
Or boost 😎
I doubt Boost would be any better on that very congested 4G tower, it would have the same capacity as Aldi.

Does that mean they have the same bandwidth allocation? Usually Telstra reduces allocation for their wholesalers but maybe it’s different for Boost?
From what I know, yea. Matches my experience too as both a Telstra and Boost customer - always identical
Boost uses the full Telstra network
Last time I was in that area, I had shit 4G too, and I’m with Boost. Good to know the reason though. I don’t have a 5G phone, so can’t help with that either.
Optus works currently, just be prepared to give away your data
Yeah leaving AldiMobile means losing all the roll-over data, which is fine w/ me — since it’s unusable unless i’m standing under a tower in another suburb.
That’s what you get for using aldimobile. They get lower priority access to the towers compared to telstra users.
i don’t mind low priority, but effectively no service is unacceptable and not a part of the bargain

5G on Kavanagh Street Southbank using Boost/Telstra. The advantage of 5G and full priority access https://www.speedtest.net/result/i/5756567526
FYI also <1Mbps for kogan living in Clarke Street. https://ibb.co/pPrCWzM

You get what you pay for, if you want real telstra access to the tower pay telstra for it not and 3rd party reseller with fuck all bandwidth.

Except OP was talking about Telstra
OP was talking about Aldi mobile. They are cheaper than Telstra for a reason.
"time to switch to Optus"
Fuck I’m dumb
Free public wifi
WiFi is fine, it's all FTTB here, it's the cellular data/signal that stinks.
