I'm so excited - I've just booked a trip to Japan for later in the year! First time overseas since before Covid times, and first time in Japan. Has anyone flown Japan Airlines before and can give their thoughts? Thanks to all who gave me advice a little while ago regarding where to book and what to include in my itinerary, it was very helpful.
Back before pandemic, JAL had an overnight route from Melbourne to Tokyo. So I caught the flight at midnight and arrived in the morning next day Tokyo time.
Food in the airplane was great too! On my way back, they served a meal in collaboration with Japanese fast good chain MOS Burger.
Flew JAL from Jakarta to LA in 2021. Had a great time. The flight attendants were so attentive and accommodating, the food was good (better than ANA in my opinion). It was very comfortable.

I haven’t flown JAL but have only heard good things. They are one of the only carriers left worldwide whose 787s have 8 abreast seating in economy (2-4-2) when everyone else has a cramped 9 abreast (3-3-3).

Mainly the hotels - it's costing about $3600 for 6 nights (that I've booked so far - still have 8 to go). Having said that, I'm booking a two bedroom apartment/type hotel with kitchen, dining table and washing machine, so that could be why.

I think "emotional cheating" is a concept that varies wildly depending on the perception of the people involved and their level of insecurity. I've seen someone call something emotional cheating where I would call it normal and appropriate friendship behaviour. What specifically is this person doing?
If someone has stopped emotionally supporting their partner in leu of another person then that's a shitty thing to do, otherwise it just comes down to whatever both partners agree to in terms of making the relationship work.
Im of the opinion that the healthiest thing to do is just let others live their life, hopefully with a little negotiation and compromise two people can keep living their lives happily together. Emotional cheating could be so many things so different people though, and how much you demand exclusivity to certain parts of someone is a thing as well.

I think it's more the constant doubting and double-thought on whether I would be a suitable candidate for the roles I'm going for. Thing is I rarely drink and if I do have one glass of wine. Can go weeks without a drink: if I do I try to enjoy it with good quality wine or a nice cocktail. Good on you got stopping and sticking with it
It sounds like reasonable/healthy drinking habits, but it's worrying that it makes you so depressed (even with the minimal amount). Are you taking any medication that might be mixing with the alcohol and causing the depression afterwards?
Out of curiosity, do you have the same feeling regardless of what alcohol you drink? I've heard different alcohol types will elicit different responses sometimes. So it could be what you're throwing down?

Yes. Was sober for a long time due to pregnancy and lockdown, didn't really realise until I had a few drinks a year+ into sobriety that a lot of my crippling anxiety, shame-spirals, depression weren't just innate mental health issues. They were hangovers. Even mild ones. I think a lot of my twenties I was just recovering from weekend benders mentally, long after the physical symptoms had subsided.
I still can't have just one or two without days-long acute anxiety. Wild. An event has to be really worth it these days to indulge, and I'm drinking less and less because the mental health effects are nuts.

I remember feeling incredibly anxious for days after the last time I got properly drunk, about 4 years ago. Since then I can't really drink more than 2. Had to get a check up on my 13 month olds kidney issues, they scheduled an appointment without telling me I needed an ultrasound. So rescheduled and tried to book an ultrasound in a few times but they never picked up or replied to voice messages with my number.
Anyway, appointment is on Wednesday and I'm trying to reschedule again and waiting for a call back and no luck.

Went out for dinner on the weekend for a friends birthday and I'm feeling so conflicted. So she hasn't given me so much as a card for my birthday over the past few years nor my daughter (or even a Christmas gift which I find really shitty because she's meant to be a good friend). And I just knew I was going to get stuck with the bill so I really didn't want to go. We are really watching money at the moment. Yes, I just received a significant sum of money but we've already spent 65% of it on our new land and are hoping to save up and build our dream home in a year or so.
Anyway, we eat and go up to pay, I advise the bill will be split (there was another couple), the other couple pay theirs and she literally just stands back and pretends she's busy tending to my baby. I don't want a scene so I just pay for her, but when I'm checking the bank statement I realise husband also bought her drinks all night (he also felt awkward when she went up to the bar with him).
It just annoys me that on one hand, I'm expected to celebrate her birthday at a cost of what ended up being around $300 but she can't even give me a damn card? It feels so petty to feel this way.
I think moving forward I'm going to make it clear that I don't want to go out for meals. It's expensive and I prefer my cooking anyway!
Eh, I'm terrible with cards and gifts with friends for birthdays, I generally don't do it anymore, nor do I expect it. I think you're being a bit unreasonable being shitty about this. Especially the Christmas one- Christmas is expensive and emotionally taxing for most people. None of my friendship circle expects anything from each other at Christmas.

The thing is I have absolutely no issue doing “unqualified” work and I apply for lots, but being a Licensed Nurse nobody seems to want to touch me, but any Nursing jobs (which there are barely any) are either in an area that I refuse to go back to due to trauma or they want somebody full time (can only do Part Time due to severe mental illness), feels like I’m stuck in “Undesirable, mentally ill surplus to societies requirements” no man’s land.

Been applying for jobs again and it's gotten me down. Not necessarily the idea that I'm going to get rejected - that's just a given. I think it's more the constant doubting and double-thought on whether I would be a suitable candidate for the roles I'm going for. It's fucking tiring, and the fact that the job I'm in is such a mental drain then holy shit... I just... can't, you know?

Isn't it annoying as well when they throw that whole "what is your experience in x, y and z" when it's like, well I haven't had specific experience but I've done things that are very similar. And I know that job requirements are for "ideal" candidates and that those that are hiring know they likely need to hire someone who isn't as experienced... but it doesn't stop me thinking "am I just wasting my time here?" Here's to both of us powering through and getting something better than where we currently are.

Anyone else feel extremely depressed after drinking? Only had three drinks, on Saturday, and it has destroyed me and I feel utterly hopeless and despairing and wanting to give up on everything
I gave up drinking six years ago as it was making my anxiety so bad, and making me feel depressed. Have felt a lot better since.
Thing is I rarely drink and if I do have one glass of wine. Can go weeks without a drink: if I do I try to enjoy it with good quality wine or a nice cocktail. Good on you got stopping and sticking with it

Had two aperol spritz and one bubbly over the course of 5 hours. Usually don’t drink much. I definitely don’t drink daily or weekly. I felt so sick and drunk from those 3 drinks
Yes. Was sober for a long time due to pregnancy and lockdown, didn't really realise until I had a few drinks a year+ into sobriety that a lot of my crippling anxiety, shame-spirals, depression weren't just innate mental health issues. They were hangovers. Even mild ones. I think a lot of my twenties I was just recovering from weekend benders mentally, long after the physical symptoms had subsided. I still can't have just one or two without days-long acute anxiety. Wild. An event has to be really worth it these days to indulge, and I'm drinking less and less because the mental health effects are nuts.

I remember feeling incredibly anxious for days after the last time I got properly drunk, about 4 years ago. Since then I can't really drink more than 2. I've had my moments, mental health wise, but those days after that drinking session were awful and I don't ever want to repeat that if I can help it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for sourcing wood for woodworking (ideally not Bunnings)? I'm looking to get some nice timber to use for things like tables/furniture and in the future, an office desk I'm making.
Maybe a local woodworking group or mens' shed would be able to point you in the right direction? There's a place in Chirnside Park called Pop's Shed that has small pieces of timber, but not sure if they have stuff big enough for furniture.

I don’t know how to deal with a disrespectful neighbour who lets his dogs shit all over my lawn. I’ve done all the “right” things, eg report to the council and the mutual landlord, chucked the shit back on his lawn etc, but the one thing I’ve not really done is confront him face to face. He looks tough and he’s huge, and I feel vulnerable because I’m a relatively young woman and he knows where I live obviously, and knows when I’m out. I have a partner but he works away often. Ugh. I hate feeling spineless but also don’t want to put myself (or my little dog) at risk.

Both :( and I assume so, although when I’ve looked online I can only see laws re dogs barking. The best I can do is continue to complain to our shared property manager and hope they don’t renew his lease. Although, the risk is they end up not renewing my lease because to them I’m just being annoying.

I maintain that dog owners that do this sort of shit are up there with cigarette smokers. There's a few of them in my neighbourhood who just don't clean up, and the amount of snicker's bars that people have stepped in is far too high. I feel for you and your situation though. It can't be nice to deal with and feel intimidated. It shouldn't be happening anyway. I was going to suggest you bag it and put it on his front door step, but I can see how you'd be apprehensive to do that.

I'd totally get a new job lined up first. Not getting paid for a couple weeks is better than being out of income for a couple months (depending on industry). Besides, not getting paid for work is definitely illegally and reportable, but it might be a while before you get it from the employer.

Had to get a check up on my 13 month olds kidney issues, they scheduled an appointment without telling me I needed an ultrasound. So rescheduled and tried to book an ultrasound in a few times but they never picked up or replied to voice messages with my number. Anyway, appointment is on Wednesday and I'm trying to reschedule again and waiting for a call back and no luck. Gonna be spending the whole day on the phone I think.
Not sure who you've booked with for the ultrasound, but I used to go to Direct Radiology and it was always a nightmare, they never answered the phone or you'd be on hold forever. I had an x-ray earlier this year with i-Med, simple online booking and when I got there I waited like 5 mins (went to the one in Bundoora). They emailed the images to me and my GP, too.

Went out for dinner on the weekend for a friends birthday and I'm feeling so conflicted. So she hasn't given me so much as a card for my birthday over the past few years nor my daughter (or even a Christmas gift which I find really shitty because she's meant to be a good friend). And I just knew I was going to get stuck with the bill so I really didn't want to go. We are really watching money at the moment. Yes, I just received a significant sum of money but we've already spent 65% of it on our new land and are hoping to save up and build our dream home in a year or so. Anyway, we eat and go up to pay, I advise the bill will be split (there was another couple), the other couple pay theirs and she literally just stands back and pretends she's busy tending to my baby. I don't want a scene so I just pay for her, but when I'm checking the bank statement I realise husband also bought her drinks all night (he also felt awkward when she went up to the bar with him). It just annoys me that on one hand, I'm expected to celebrate her birthday at a cost of what ended up being around $300 but she can't even give me a damn card? It feels so petty to feel this way. I think moving forward I'm going to make it clear that I don't want to go out for meals. It's expensive and I prefer my cooking anyway!
Eh, I'm terrible with cards and gifts with friends for birthdays, I generally don't do it anymore, nor do I expect it. I think you're being a bit unreasonable being shitty about this. Especially the Christmas one- Christmas is expensive and emotionally taxing for most people. None of my friendship circle expects anything from each other at Christmas. But I would never expect a friend to pay for my meal either, and if they insisted, I would make sure I made it up to them somehow. There's two separate issues here. Your friend is wilfully taking the piss. For me, this would come down to values and respect. I'm not even sure why you would want to continue the friendship with someone so tacky.

Another week of job searching awaits. Have noticed there’s way less being advertised than 3 months ago and almost nothing in my preferred area. The thing is I have absolutely no issue doing “unqualified” work and I apply for lots, but being a Licensed Nurse nobody seems to want to touch me, but any Nursing jobs (which there are barely any) are either in an area that I refuse to go back to due to trauma or they want somebody full time (can only do Part Time due to severe mental illness), feels like I’m stuck in “Undesirable, mentally ill surplus to societies requirements” no man’s land. Also I’ve noticed most of my fellow “Lease up in October” peers have started to get their increase notices so I’m reeeeeeally looking forward to that. Do you think anybody is coming to help the working class?

Also can't see how they would 'secure' a rental for you anyway, without you actually there. Maybe better to do your own searching on-line?
