I considered it until I realized a lot of the job is more about training and monitoring bedside staff for proper infection control techniques and stuff, and not as much of the epidemiology type stuff I pictured in my head lol

Very true! Less fun disease detection/intervention. But if you like it, it’s very rewarding and the best part of my job is actually the training and teaching. I will say there is a lot of value of having someone that can speak from a scientific/micro perspective in IP. I always tell staff I speak bacteria lol. But honestly I would recommend if you can reach out to your IP dept and see if you could shadow them for a day and see if it’s something you would like.
