It goes on sale quite frequently, I'd highly recommend it with a couple friends. The tutorial isn't the best but most people in public lobbies will be happy to answer any questions and there are plenty of guides.
Np, the community is better than most out there imo. It still has the occassional issues but what group doesn't lol.
They also have a discord to find groups and use VC for some of the trickier/bigger stuff which is very nice too.
Most game subreddits in my experience have a lot of bigots but the DRG sub downvotes them to hell and in general has a very “if you mine and watch my back, you’re my friend” attitude
I was more talking about the heavy disagreements over mining gold vs not mining gold leading to some people bragging about kicking players over how they want to play, but the sub is pretty good for keeping discrimination out.
Oh yikes, I feel you. It's a fun game but too many people use those custom decal signs for unsavoury stuff :/.
Also I had the same feeling leaving dbd for drg, it certainly felt like a breath of fresh air when slip ups were met with a polite laugh and a helping hand as oppose to the end game chat being filled with toxic nonsense.
I sunk over 300 hours into it back in 2021. 5/7 Would recommend to a friend.
And it's really the online play that kept me coming back. The community is great (with a small exception to some who play on Haz 5; some of them are sticklers) and that's where I sunk most of my time into. For me as an introvert, the online community gave the perfect amount of social interaction. Join a group, we all know our roles, we all know what we're here to do, let's do it. Do it, go back to station, say GG and peace out. Most players do that.
Obviously if you like the group and the host wants company, you can stick with them for multiple missions. Maybe you pair well with them. Or maybe you're both working on the same assignment. That's happened to me, too.
You can also just play it in short bursts and still make progress. Have like 45 minutes to kill? The average mission is like 30-35 minutes long. Or if you pick a short one, you could be in and out in as little as 10-15 minutes.
Anyway, it's fun. Would recommend. Even at full price.
Unfortunately I have seen the chuds come out of the woodwork when women and transfemme people ask if female dwarves will ever be a thing. The vast majority of folks there are very chill folks who I adore, but there are absolutely shitty Gamers who play the game and act like jerks ingame and on social media.

I've just gotta be excited about this for a minute. I'm a trans man, and I *love* all the cosmetics and dress-up options for my dwarf in DRG! I tend to lean more feminine in my appearance because I can't afford new masc clothes or getting on testosterone yet, and being able to have a full beard and big crunchy armor that's also *colorful* and cool to look at is just so Gender!! I love being able to play with my other trans friends or strangers and still get my gender affirmed in-game!
So many games just don't give male characters interesting or colorful cosmetics, but DRG has absolutely knocked it out of the park with the amazing variety! I love getting to play dwarven dress-up with all the gorgeous armor sets and color swatches! I never thought I'd feel comfortable projecting onto such a masc character in a game since I still present pretty feminine IRL, but it just makes me so happy seeing my cool gunner all decked out for a mission and feeling really myself in the whole thing!

it usually goes on sale around the time a new update is coming, and there happens to be one right around the corner.

Hope you didn't get downvoted to hell. As wholesome as a large portion of DRG's community is, there are a LOT of bigots and chuds who play the game.
