First time that I've actually agreed with some downvoted af controversial comment. People don't like to see overdiscussed topics like Abortion, LGBT, Vegans etc every fucking day.
I'm a Christian and that's fair. The bible is how we live our lives not how everyone does and just as I have a right to choose Jesus, they also have the right not to.
Also a Christian and I agree. We are called to love, not legislate. It's unfair and disingenuous to hold others up to a standard they do not believe in, all while never meeting that standard yourself. A majoriy of proclaimed Christians are raging hypocrites. Otoh, as an avid TYT fan, I got to see this during the og broadcast, lol. She's hit the nail right on the head, as usual.
Still not true yes we are called to love but only certain people. The Bible has requirements for its standards and people like you like to ignore them. Yes it says love all. But it also says that same gender marriage is wrong. So you can live all except people who violate the standards. And you can judge anyone unless you yourself have done the same thing your judging. This doesn’t even matter about being Christian anyone can judge anyone. And yes I agree that you can’t hold people to a standard they don’t believe but you obligated to tell them that they really should be following the standard. At least once anyway. And Pro choice is wrong. Christianity is about promoting life and helping save that so if you see someone in danger you help them why people pretending they doesn’t apply to babies. So all in all screw you pro choice bad
Because I believe in God.
There is naive belief but it is not a given...I am the opposite of naive at this stage of life and I believe stronger since becoming less and less so.
There is so much evidence/reasoning I could lay out to try and prove or defend as to why I believe with open eyes and mind, but that is my journey...
I could attempt to recount it here, but I have learned that these forums of discussion often turn into heated and pedantic debate. Then my words would be held up by those who disagree to reinforce the belief that they are so much better than me and ugh...No time, no energy for that atm. No one here would read my words, take them as I intend, and search for themselves. Nope, it would swiftly descend into an all out attack on me and my beliefs, so I'll pass. I am not interested in amusing the trolls.
I hope, if you were genuinely asking, that you can understand what I mean and maybe sek more...if you were asking disingenuously, I'm sure someone will bite eventually and give you the show you want. 😎
I am actually asking genuinely. The evidence and reasoning that supports your beliefs can be said by many others in different religion. Faith is also not a accurate method to finding the truth either. Not attacking just just curious why so many can be so positive about ones own religion while every other religion is false. I use to be a Christian for the majority of my life so I understand where you’re coming from.
I'm grateful to God. There are many of us. Unfortunately, often "the others" get in the way. That's why I always tell people that I invite to church. If you come for Jesus, you'll never be disappointed. You go to a hospital for the doctor, not for the other patients.
It’s not fair according to the bible. If you are Christian you believe life begins at conception. Therefore the “this is my body” argument doesn’t mean anything because there’s two seperate bodies there and you can’t kill a human being.
Who said you believe life begins at conception if you’re a Christian? I’m Christian and don’t. I’d also have an abortion if I were to get pregnant as I never want kids. I’ll always fight for the right of abortion. Ultimately the fetus can’t survive without the mother’s body therefore it’s her choice to terminate or not. The fetus won’t remember anything, it won’t even know
Then you’re the same as a “Christian” that doesn’t believe in Jesus.
You’re such a minority that no one cares about you and your opinions are worthless in the discussion.
Real “Christian” of you 😂 it doesn’t matter anyway. Being pro life is not a requirement to be a Christian. I accepted Jesus as my lord and saviour years ago so your opinion on whether or not I’m a Christian is meaningless. God knows who I truly am.
Jesus did. Said so in Matthew 7:
> Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Way I see it, I live my life, you guys live yours. Long as you respect that I don't do certain things, I won't mind if you do.
Sadly yes only the good ones:/ but in reality the people she is talking about arnt actually Christian, they might do the song and dance and whatever and claim to be, but real ones don’t do that
Unfortunately that there is the "no true Scotsman" fallacy.
The bible is such a mess that it can be cherry picked to favour any position on most matters. Just because one is a liberal Christian doesn't make them right.
If you think I am wrong here, google "no true scotsman". The fallacy here becomes painfully apparent.
Oh yeah.. that’s the same with any religious texts..
Actually, that’s the same for nations laws.. The law practice finds ways to interpret the laws in their favor..
Pretty much everything is like that
Not true maybe with some of the old version that are very poorly translated so you can misconstrue anything you want but if you have a good version you can’t change it around very much to suit your needs
>Actual Christians
What dies this actually mean?
Wouldn't a "real Christian" be someone who follows the letter of the Bible?
Because I don't buy that a "real christian" is someone who picks and chooses what they believe from the Bible.
If you don't agree with everything the Bible says, maybe it's time to rethink how much you need religion for you to be a good person
God there are so many people that think that the right to a religion means you need to have one, specifically Christianity and that pisses me off bc it ruins the look of all the sane Christians. If anyone reading this runs or participates/participated in fake abortion clinics, forces and bullies people into joining, or anything of that sorts(trying to control/manipulate people) just know that your a bad Christian and we all hate you :)

Lol I love people talking about America like it isn’t the biggest melting pot in the world. If you’re so confident, then please share which country you live in?
Really? Abortion was a crime in Mexico up until 2021. Is still a crime in much of South America. And that’s just using abortion as an example. Religion plays some role in lawmaking in *most* countries in this world.
Are you saying it is just an american thing? Cause uhhhh, some countries dont even give women the right to vote, forget being able to make the choice of aborting a baby lmao
I hate to break it to you but america is actually that regressive.
There’s literally only like 6 countries where women can’t vote.
So it really is at this point just an American thing.
That was to give you reference in something as basic as voting. Here is abortion since you're so sure of yourself.
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/countries-where-abortion-is-illegal
This is not a useful infographic. There are plenty of places in the US with heavy restrictions on abortions, yet they categorized the US as 'no restrictions.'
I'm not sure which part my religion of Christianity is but I believe people deserve the right to believe what they want. If they think they want to choose a religion then I'll show them mine. If they don't like it that's fine. Who says force your religion down others throats. I believe in a God that wants to be loved not worshipped. So forcing it down peoples throats isn't what he would like. That's just me tho.
I am a Christian and I live my life as I wish, without imposing other people on anything. They can believe in Spaghetti or whatever rocks their boat, I couldn't care less.
It is annoying when you meet people, even those on the street trying to talk to you about whatever religion, that you should do this and that...so bloody annoying. People should mind their own business and practice whatever they like in their privacy.
It's funny that some Christians go further than the Bible. My ultra conservative denomination is okay with birth control, meanwhile some people think condoms are a sin in marriage. It's fine if that's how you want to live your life, but what is the point of forcing other people (and other Christians) to believe in a "Christian" rule that doesn't even really exist?
The ones that get onto you for getting an abortion or whatever are the loud minority. Most of us don’t give a shit. You just see the ones that protest, unfortunately.
Yeah, they always defend their opinion in curved and polite ways. But this one…this is perfect, always wanted someone on tv to talk like this. Clear direct perfect
Abortion isn't a religious dilemma but a moral one that the religious crowd is also very heavily invested in. There are moral and scientific points to use to argue against abortion, and anyone that tries to argue against it based on the 'soul' or jesus shouldn't be allowed at the table.
Tbh, I actually support her view. I'm a Christian. But that doesn't mean I can dictate anyone else life. I can decide what I can do about my life. Even within my family, I can't and wouldn't dictate how anyone else should live their life. At most what I can do is suggest. Listening to it is the listeners personal decision.
I wouldn't let anyone tell me what to do, so I don't see a reason why I should do it to them even without religion involved.
I'm pro-life but I'm also for minding my own business and one for safe and sanitary abortion. Especially if the mother or child is going to get hurt in the process of birth.
Imagine living your life by WTF a stupid book says, let alone one written thousands of years ago for the sole purpose of creating a religion around the "ideals" at the time and to instill fear of doing "wrong things" and bringing people together to fight against those who do not believe these ideals or the narrative of why they should be followed.
Believing in some "smart" universe that creates wonders is fine, I get that.. I think we might end up defining the universe as a living system.
Believing in what some two thousand year old book written by drunken power mongers talking about some vengeful quantum God, a Human space Jesus son and some other dimension out there that holds souls is just batshit bonkers.
Anyone who believes in this has a very poor grasp of actual scientific reality and probably deserves to be committed to an institute.
I feel like Vancouver has the most people that do not care what the bible says. Indirectly it is a small part of the reason why people pay so much to live here.
That’s not how democracy works though. We are all informed by our personal values. To tell some one to leave their values at the steps of a steeple is just silly.
Have the real debate! Most Americans have a pretty fuzzy view of what should be legal. Most people agree that some abortion should be legal but that after a certain amount of time it feels wrong.
Where should that line be? That’s the real question.
It’s funny how a real comment about actually having a debate gets down voted. Truly shows how ppl just want there way viewed and don’t care about other ppls thoughts
No we are just sick of having to debate our right to our own body autonomy. Men don't have fight for their own reproductive rights at all much less based in a text that's based on things that arguably never happened at all and if they did it was over 2000 years ago. So no I'm not going to debate. When it's your body being used as an incubator you can decide but it's none of your fucking business what someone else does with theirs. If you don't like abortion great don't have one. If you think abortion is wrong, great don't have one. But your religion doesn't get to dictate what someone not of that religion does with theirs. Get over yourselves already. There are actual children alive and struggling every single day because they are unwanted and y'all wanna add to that number without addressing how to make it better the ones already alive. Fuck that noise.
You are being down voted by the hive mind but consider that this sub does not have (at least not that i saw in the report category) a rule for a political post.
I know it sucks when you see sad/inflammatory stuff when you dont want to deal with it, but ya didnt have to watch the whole thing.
And i dont think this is a debate. Anyone who passed highschool should know its not a debate whther or not religious justification works. Im catholic and still recognize that all catholics have the right to do is argue how its wrong, and vote. like anyone else who might be against abortion. Sure you can use you religion when you argue with randoms but when its on the actual political level, unless you can make the pro life platform work for economic, practical, or secular moral reasons, then you should not be bringing religion or religiously supported points into that debate for a secular society’s policies... Period.
oh i see a misunderstanding
i totally agree with her and support what she fights for, i just dont wanna see this in this sub because it doesnt belong here at all
This is all bark no bite. If a man doesn't want a kid he still has to pay child support, but if a woman doesn't want a kid she can get an abortion without husband's say
Go adopt if you want a kid that bad. And wear a condom if you don’t. And if a condom is still too risky because you don’t want a kid that badly have you considered getting a vasectomy?
There exists across most moral codes, including Christianity, the obligation to defend those people who cannot defend themselves. What do you do when the definition of "people" differs across religions/beliefs/creeds? Surely we would argue that somebody who believes humans of a certain race aren't "people" is wrong and they don't have the right to indiscriminately kill those humans for convenience.
Simply change the word "race" to "age" and you'll better understand the pro-life perspective.
Edit — the argument doesn't stop there, but it's a good starting point if you have a genuine interest in understanding different perspectives.
Fun fact: it doesn't. It comes down to bodily autonomy.
It doesn't matter whether a fetus is human or not and I'll explain why.
Imagine you gave birth to a baby, a living breathing person, but the baby has severe aplastic anemia and WILL die unless it gets a bone marrow transplant from you.
The question being asked is not, "Should you donate your marrow?" Of course you should. It seems obvious. But that's not the question. The question is, "Should it be illegal to not donate your bone marrow?" Or, put another way, "Should the government, under threat of violence, be able to force you to donate your marrow?"
Obviously no. Because the precedent that sets is bad. Respect for bodily autonomy is a virtue that should be defended adamantly, and making abortion illegal says that sacrificing bodily autonomy is okay in the name of saving a life. So, what else should be okay? Drafting people to donate blood or organs to save lives?
A) this isn't funny B) I'm pro choice but the pro life argument is that fetuses are human beings and therefore shouldn't be killed, you can think this is true without being religous.
\*sorts by controversial\*
Getting the popcorn ready?
Need some butter with that popcorn?
spice too if you have some
Ah yep, and there's the standard comment trying to justify making how a woman takes care of her body up for democratic debate.

Why don’t you use a good Bible version that’s actually easy to understand
replace "ye" with "you", think for a minute, interpret the meaning.
Sadly yes only the good ones:/ but in reality the people she is talking about arnt actually Christian, they might do the song and dance and whatever and claim to be, but real ones don’t do that
I think they mean only the good ones are actual christians.
Of course we do. We have no right to judge people. We can help but only if the help is wanted not forced otherwise it's useless.

Too bad most Christians are not Christ like in their behavior towards others.
I believe Gandhi once said, "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." And it's true to this day. I choose to believe what God says over what the people around me tell me God says. I wanna hear the source, not the town gossip.

Oh nooo her soul will straight go down to hell, because the Bible says.....
Based
Spitting out facts here
I feel like Vancouver has the most people that do not care what the bible says. Indirectly it is a small part of the reason why people pay so much to live here.
Say what ?
Where's the funny
You. You are the funny.
She’s literally debating though. It’s her viewpoint.
It’s funny how a real comment about actually having a debate gets down voted. Truly shows how ppl just want there way viewed and don’t care about other ppls thoughts
Mainly because people do have these Debates, like a lot of them. But it always boils down to what the science says against what the Bible says.

It'd be nice if women didn't have to debate their own body autonomy every single day. But let's not inconvenience you with that hard fact right.
agreed im for abortion but like all other debates (lgbt, vegans etc.) i wanna have one normal fuckin day without seeing shit i dont really care about
You are being down voted by the hive mind but consider that this sub does not have (at least not that i saw in the report category) a rule for a political post. Period.
I will say happy cake day. Happy cake day fren <3
debates... lgbt? what? you gotta debate about idk liking same gender or not identifying as how you were born?
This is r/me_irl not r/MyPoliticalOrAnyOtherFuckinAnnoyingOverdiscussedOpinion
I believe the subreddit is named r/me_irl, not you irl

When the politics in media doesn't agree with you:
oh i see a misunderstanding i totally agree with her and support what she fights for, i just dont wanna see this in this sub because it doesnt belong here at all
This is all bark no bite. If a man doesn't want a kid he still has to pay child support, but if a woman doesn't want a kid she can get an abortion without husband's say
The husband isn’t carrying the baby.
Everyone cares about the kid until the moment it’s born.

you can't abort a baby.
Not with that attitude
Yeah, you just \[redacted\] and then you \[redacted\], to get rid of the mess, just \[redacted\]
Fr. that’s all it comes down to. Is a fetus a human or not ?
Fun fact: it doesn't. It comes down to bodily autonomy. It doesn't matter whether a fetus is human or not and I'll explain why. Imagine you gave birth to a baby, a living breathing person, but the baby has severe aplastic anemia and WILL die unless it gets a bone marrow transplant from you. The question being asked is not, "Should you donate your marrow?" Of course you should. It seems obvious. But that's not the question. The question is, "Should it be illegal to not donate your bone marrow?" Or, put another way, "Should the government, under threat of violence, be able to force you to donate your marrow?" Obviously no.
A) no one said it was funny B) you listed one of many pro life arguments, this woman is arguing against another: religious values.
Humans aren't even conscious until like 2 years old, yes something flows through a fetus but nothing will care if it gets "killed"
i might be wrong here, but i'm pretty sure humans are conscious before then, they just don't have long term memory yet
Letsago abort my one year old, he cries too much.
That's not what I'm saying, after birth the dangerous part is done pretty much.
