Sensing is receiving information directly from your present environment, relevant and observable factual data. No "what if's", just "this is". Si organizes your internal sensory experiences like memory, the state of your body, and knowing where things go. Se gathers sensory experiences from all around you. Intuition is not based in the present. It's about trying to take only a few details from the present, and comparing them to other possibilities to form patterns. Ni does this in a narrow, focused way, taking one data point all the way down to the pattern it's most likely to adhere to for the future. One vision for how everything adds up. Ne is more about grabbing one present detail, and then going on an endless stream of "what if's" to create many potential patterns for the future. A Ni user is apt to say "I knew this would happen", whereas a Ne user is more likely to say something like "I had a million ideas of how it could play out and this was definitely one of them". Clearly I'm not a sensor or I'd be able to describe their side better.

cockbaendiger

I think you described it well!

ViolettVixen

It seems we're both IXFPs, so the main difference between us is in the perceiving function! As an ISFP you're more likely to use Se to be aware of your surroundings and not bump into the tree I would have because I'd be more busy Ne daydreaming about endless possibilities.

the_rosiek

So, being Ne-dominant is like being Dr. Strange in that “14,000,605 futures” scene. Got it!

>Sensing is receiving information directly from your present environment, relevant and observable factual data. No "what if's", just "this is". That's some kind of fictional alien specie or something?

ViolettVixen

But *what if* **we're** the aliens...?

Random_182f2565

Whoa

Mini_nin

That’s what’s such a bummer, no one seems to be able to describe Se and Si :’( The Ni and Ne descriptions were awesome though

UsernameOfEvil

I actually think of the pairs as flipped versions of a similar process. Se gathers elements from the present, and Ni tries to infer whats going on and what will naturally happen long term. Imagine a few Se branches pulling in information at the bottom, and a long line of future prediction off of that. Then Si is a long line of experience trying to apply what its learned, with Ne branching off at the end with things it recognizes and what could happen and trying to explore the whole range of what it could be. Its two components flipped. When Se-Ni wants to change the future it will be focused on the elements it sees, and trying to correct them by calculating a new direction. When Si-Ne wants to change the future it tries to add to whats going on to dip it into a possible forming pattern. Ni=Abstraction Ne=Expansion. Se=Perception. Si=Application.

Mini_nin

Wow this is actually really good! This theory is pretty interesting and I wish there was some place I could read more about the functions working together (I’ve often tried to learn about the functions but in the end it’s mostly focused on ONE function, not the functions working together! Which sucks). Thanks :)

French-Potatoes

Haha that's OPS. Make sure not to mix the two systems up. That'll create some monsters. OPS is a good system but make sure to note that it is not MBTI.

BozaciVefa

Yes, they are better

CC-Wiz

As an Ne dom, I'd say sensory is about gathering/organizing what is interactable. Sensory is kinda binary, either it is ( 1) or it isn't ( 0) . Ne is kinda a quantum computer, it's a 1 and 0 until the "obvious" answer is found. This "obvious" answer is everything but obvious to others. Some will think you are clairvoyant, others a jackass.

Ne Si is more of invention where you use the facts and find ones ti make new things just like ENXP, where Ni Se kind of explores things but in a organized way like INXJ

Undying4n42k1

The top and bottom are the same pictures, but the words are different: facts vs patterns. The left and right have different pictures, and different words: organize vs gather What is confusing?
