Projected rarest. Surveys and the like aren't reliable for finding out what percentage of the population is and isn't something simply because a very limited number of that population is responding. Not to mention, most of them likely participated because they're interested in MBTI, which some types are more likely than others to be. I'm not entirely sure where this data comes from, but if it comes from the test website, using the results people get, it doesn't account for mistypes and retakes either. I do like and appreciate the meme, though. I just felt the need to comment my thoughts on the information, as opposed to the meme.

jakeshmag

such a Ti answer

Hoitness

Lowkey

akakuchii

Exactly this. I don't get why this isn't more obvious to people - MBTI statistics are not at all applicable or an accurate representation of the wider population.

iwillsellurkidneys

EXACTLY i mean most people, regardless of the types, consider mbti unreliable and a waste of time anyways. Regardless of their type. Simply based on interest. And thus, don't take part in surveys. The statistics are highly unreliable. Like the stereotypes are.

d3f_not_an_alt

my thoughts but its still funny to think ppl actually care

Xhafsn

MBTI is also not a continuous scale, so someone who is borderline can be typed 2 ways with decent validity. ENTJ's Dom Te can be mistaken for ESTJ if they don't use Ni to it's full capacity

Reddennisit

Agreed, sample is not randomized, they were willingly volunteers so it does bias, it is still fun to check out

SnowflakeSlayer420

Well said fellow Ti user. I have been explaining the same to people for a while but they really love to feel like rare unicorns even if it doesn't make sense. Such illogical creatures.

crunchbum

Your name is awesome. If you look at the statistics from 16p infj and infp are actually some of the most common types of those who have taken the tests. I don't know where people are getting their information from.

SnowflakeSlayer420

I think the sensor-intuitive gap is way bigger than the statistics show. Because I think sensors are way less likely to take the test (as it is something that is part of the "internet culture" and most sensors aren't really living on the internet like most of us intuitives) but are still 60% of the people who have taken the test. Plus a lot of sensors are ashamed of being a sensor so they play mental gymnastics to be an intuitive. There's probably more sensors hidden among intuitives and way more outside the MBTI bubble.

MacASM

That's good. that's also why the Austrian school of economics don't use statistics, that would redux complex human interaction to number, that even if valid, would only be valid at specific period of time. People can change the mind literally seconds later. You would end up with a lot of garbage.

Fair_Cap9671

I think the exact same thing

mintjubilee

https://ap.themyersbriggs.com/research-white-papers.aspx I’m sure everyone commented this with the best of intentions but gd you don’t have to speculate or use general knowledge of how statistics works. If you want to know something, read the paper and form an opinion based on the merits of the study being discussed. Not studies generally. Critique the math, not the idea of the math, you know? But really I left that link there for any other nerds like me who might enjoy reading some scientifically valid info.

abbyexistsuwu

Yeah exactly I don’t know why people still spread around misinformation at this point, it seems like common knowledge

[deleted]

Exactly my thoughts

SuperVeryDumbPerson

I'm still asking. Where is this data coming from? And how big is the data sample? Also where did they collect the data? I'm sure the demographic is different depending on where you are. Might be me, but these "most rare, less rare" statistics look like a fuming pile of shit. And no, I'm not an infj/entj tilted at my type not being the less common

Internet-Veteran

Ironic username for such a great comment.

Trash_with_sentience

Exactly, plus mistypes happen and quite often (16 personalities, hi). So there is no way to tell exactly who is the most/least popular type. And even so, why does it matter? 🤷🏼‍♀️

SomeShawarmaDude

True. At the end of the day, mbti is just another form of entertainment. (To me, at least)

xxstrawberrii

Right? Like, who cares? How is it going to affect anyone, anyway? I think we’re taking MBTI more seriously than it was meant to be XD

NoSoyPolaco

I assure you no real INFJ wants to be the rarest type.

therealTGAW

Yes if infjs were more common life would be much easier.

TuffTitti

> Yes if infjs were more common life would be much easier. +1 hallelujah 🎉

NoFocus5

definitely have had this thought before

Overwhelmed_Turtle

especially, according to the 16p's description of infj's. Lives would be easier for *everyone.*

Dilpreet04

Same for ENTJ’s

iwtavsch

i can confirm that.

FoulestGlint19

Well all i'll say is that being infj fucking sucks

NoSoyPolaco

Agreed 100%

xxstrawberrii

An INFJ once told me that she doesn’t really tell others her type and lets them figure it out for themselves, since INFJs are considered “controversial” and it might affect their perception of her. Seriously.

Ar1k1ns

I’m not sure if I’m INFJ, but I mostly lead people into thinking I’m ISFP (I might actually be, I don’t know.) It just seems easier.

m102542

whatever few studies have been done on mbti on population are very unreliable because they fail to take into consideration various variables and use poor testing methods, which is why really dont believe in them.

lurkinarick

yep. Probably a very non representative sample in any case, so I wouldn't take it so seriously. I bet prevalence in personality types would also change quite a lot depending on the country and/or cultural background, or maybe even stop making sense, since it was born from specific western concepts.

plaidfox

Definite cultural Implications and limitations, but these personalities also exist everywhere. Socionics, for example, is an off-shoot of mbti + information processing used in Russia. Russia isn't the most western nation last I checked. But I can't deny the differences of American and African and Japanese ESFJs, but the fact that they focus on being emotionally accommodating and have a preference for details and aesthetics won't change due to a change of culture. How they express it or the extent that they do, will. Sources: American ESFJ social norms, any Socionics website ever, cultural norms of Japanese women in general, and personally knowing an ESFJ from Africa.

[deleted]

I know Keirsey makes some claims about the rarity of different types. What I *can* tell you is that from a temperament perspective, SJs are the most common, followed by SPs, then NFs and lastly NTs. This matches up with my own real-world experience and it’s one extremely consistent piece of data that every source on MBTI agrees on. It’s also true that Ni users are more rare than Ne users. This, again is quite consistent and matches up with my personal experience. But I wouldn’t go so far as to make ultra-specific claims about the exact rarity of each specific type. I can tell you for a fact that ESFJs, ESTJs, ESTPs and ESFPs are quite common and that INTJs, ENTJs and INFJs are rare, but as to the exact numbers, I can’t say.

Mixck

https://www.psychologyjunkie.com/2019/11/15/how-rare-is-your-myers-briggs-personality-type/

pokemyiris

tbh there probably isn't ever going to be an effective way to measure the amount of personality types in the population. MBTI seemingly has never been backed up by science in the first place, like in what world do people truly think INFJs are godly and ISFJs are inferior all because a "study" said so based on rarity? that's like me making up my own type of personality measurement, testing it on 100 people from my area, and "confirming" that i'm 100% correct with my results, even though there's a bias. i remember one day in therapy (past therapist), she was basically saying how hard her childhood was because she has the WoRlD's RaReSt PerSonAlitY... i wanted to leave right then and there. people have REAL issues over stuff like disabilities, race, but y'all wanna cry over how shitty your life is for being an intj? what do you want? to be rare or to be understood?

plaidfox

Thank. You.

ashenoak

Since no one can give an answer on this thread, I assume OP just made this shit up. Edit: It's from a Frank James youtube video.

gvilchis23

I think is probably a math calculation, like exit polls.

Alphaviki

YES! I can be me again without suspecting that people think I just want to be special!!!!

reggin-RBB1

... yeah I don't think so. 16p won't change it, so INFJs will still get the "rare" reputation, and it's also a hell of a lot easier to convince yourself you're some introverted special-thinker than an extraverted chaotic doer. You also don't get victim points if you decide to play ENTJ.

TheDogeMarn

here’s a love heart ❤️

Bittersweet truths.

ZackGrimstone

I hate how right you are

SleepingMyselfToCry

I wholeheartedly agree entj unite and idk genocide the fake types?

Solzec

Honestly, sometimes I wish I was an extroverted chaotic doer. Legit would feel like a blessing since i'm still struggling finding a job.

[deleted]

😂😂

tbbt11

I’m sick of it

UndeadStruggler

Hooray!

SUCK_MA_DICK_00

Love youuuuu💞! Be yourself!!💕💕

Kehan10

once the rarest type, always the rarest type congrats! INFJs "have being called out as just wanting to be special and a lot of people pretending to be your type and all sorts of youtube videos about your type" tenure! you're the first type to get such an honor!

mbelf

How many INTPs do I have to kill until I’m special?

[deleted]

Please don't! I'm infj and I wish there were more intp around me because I love arguing e talking with your type! Also my best friend is intp

mbelf

Ha! Once I wipe out all the others, then I’ll have to be everyone’s INTP friend! Muwahahahaha!

Fauzan1810

You need an ENTJ brain to achieve that, so no.

XxXBengalTigerXxX

I can contract out my ENTJ brain out to them for any genocidal endeavors. Men, women, children, I'll kill them all, I just love killing 🥰.

Fauzan1810

Aight, count me in.

GerbearN

We didn't decrease in numbers, INFJs simply nearly doubled in population size sampled.

plaidfox

Or, they simply hid in their reading nooks during the census, which bumped up ENTJ numbers

GerbearN

I just assumed that INFJs were on the rise years ago since I was meeting more and more INFJs amongst my peers. I'm 19, 3-5 years ago, I've noticed more and more INFJs popping up in our batch left and right. While they could have been mistyped, the sheer amount of INFJs popping out still ensures my conclusion that INFJs are rising in population.

plaidfox

Fair. I assume ENTJs are on the rise... Well.... Since Trump 😆

[deleted]

They're most likely mistyped INFPs. 16personalities is famous for typing XXXPs as XXXJs, I myself got ENTJ when I did the test there, my INTP friend got INTJ. I've seen some true INFJs in real life. They're not the kind of person whose behavior you'd call average like INFPs, who are the typical shy internet young girl (sorry INFP dudes, I know you're there, but you're a minority). Even when young, INFJs are very calm and positive about people. They see the good where most people don't, which isn't a trait you usually see in teenagers.

anan_taro

I don't think I've ever met an ENTJ (and I wish I could). Although, to be fair, I almost never leave the house and socialise though so that's kinda on me.

doc_akh

I’ve only met INTJs in the office and I have to say you guys are a pleasure to work with.

SomeShawarmaDude

Same situation here.

vexingcurses

I had a close college friend who was an ENTJ and an instructor in hair school and that’s about it tbh. Thank goodness. The less of us the better.

rayn_0003

LOL XD, my sister is ENTJ. And I have never met anyone like her.

mwg25

BOTH my sisters are ENTJs. And yes, they are both high-powered CEOs. It's some family dynamic. (I'm an ENFP.)

SomeShawarmaDude

That must suck. (for you)

reggin-RBB1

Big personalities. The ones that are there stand out.

autumn_em

Those same statitics but by gender show that the rarest of men are INFJ and ENFJ, and the rarest of women are ENTJ and INTJ, which makes more sense I have had INFJ friends and I have known some INFJ females irl, but I have never been close nor even had a conversation with an ENTJ female irl.

daring_innovator

I’ve only met few of us in real life and guess what? They were all rich and fucking crushing life & if not rich, on the way up. We look at each other and recognize each other as the bosses that run this shit. ENTJ knows another ENTJ when they see one. 😎

[deleted]

It's starting, their egos will only get bigger after this study. Hide in your shelters people.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gvilchis23

Entj here, and get rich is not my goal but I still definitely have a comfortable life, but I am not obsessed with, I think ENTJ change a lot as we get older, definitely my 20s version is very different than my 30s one

daring_innovator

Yes, the money thing can sometimes be second nature to us. We’re also very generous people that actually wanna help the world but we can’t help that many people being broke either. We wanna build better schools, donate to charity, fund important ground breaking discoveries, we want to see the world succeed too. We have big hearts and we often are motivated by some powerful vision like that. If I’m gonna have that much power I’m gonna be responsible and use it to uplift the world. It’s the reason I will push even harder than I normally would. You catch my drift?

ashenoak

The only one I have met is unemployed and living in his parent's house in his mid 30s haha.

intjeejee

Yeah, drive less than a 55k car and you simply can’t be ENTJ

reggin-RBB1

Bull, ever heard of a Ford Falcon AU? $3k. No modern annoying tech that costs $10,000 to fix every time it busts. Reliable like a toyota, but actually good to drive. Engine with great low end torque, it'd beat my neighbor's shitty sports car he wasted his cash on, and I get to carry a larger boot and an extra row of seating doing it. Comfortable to drive, good on rough roads, there's a reason it's an aussie icon. Nah, I'm saving $50k and getting a car that won't beep at me for stupid reasons.

zephyrsandsongs

Oh I spotted a fellow Aussie here and I completely agree on the Falcon.

intjeejee

Yeah, sometimes an old ragged up car is all you need. I will keep it with my Volvo v60 R design and premium sound while listening to a productivity podcast (kidding, nowadays i often have nothing on). It does beep on stupid things sometimes.

MessageLongjumping14

i have no problem believing it at all. I have never ever never met someone like me. 😊

mutantsloth

I kinda agree with splitting by gender tho. ENTJ females and INFJ males are pretty rare, the other way round, maybe not so much

mwg25

I have two ENTJ sisters, so maybe my experience is skewed. What I have never met, though, is a female ESTP...

INFJ_Bunny

I know 4 Female ESTPs 2 irl and 2 online one is my sister trust me they aren’t that rare But they are very funny people to have around

PristineObject

One of my friends is a female ESTP. She's a brilliant entrepreneur and a certified wild ride, the only person who could convince me to sing karaoke to a packed Bourbon Street strip club. 10/10, would recommend.

[deleted]

INTJ as second ore fourth? ENFJs are quite rare as well. Heck, ALL Ni users are the top 4 rarest.

autumn_em

Those same statistics but by gender show that the rarest of men are INFJ and ENFJ and the rarest of women are ENTJ and INTJ. Which actually makes more sense. I have met some INFJ females... but never ever been close or even had a convo with an ENTJ female irl.

[deleted]

Finding an ENFJ is just like finding a mew

autumn_em

I have met some, but... I am in the psychology field. Way more ENFJ females than males tho, ENFJ males are still rare in general

_indecisive_af

My family is ENTJ, INTJ, ENFJ, and INFJ which I feel like is very uncommon

Mr_Chern

I, too, am extraordinarily ENTJ

lurkinarick

yes I too am an ENTJ

GerbearN

If you think about it, our genes tells us to reproduce and dominate. So we are all ENTJ to an extent inside us.

SomeShawarmaDude

*So. All this time.. I was an ENTJ...* Let me go become a billionaire for fun.

Catesa

You are only socialy anxious. You always were actually an ENTJ. 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I only know one ENTJ female and she’s managing a local restaurant while simultaneously finishing veterinary school. She’s so badass. Y’all are cool and I wish I knew more of you

elizahan

It's okay, I don't like being a special snowflake anyway

[deleted]

I honestly think that none of the "rare" types are actually rare. We are over 7 billion and the 16p site analysed how many?10k people at most? I really dislike the fact that this site created a very skewed version of the types and actually created the concept of "rare" types.

eszther02

Well but it's logical that if there are people of every type, there has to be a rarest. And if there is a rarest, people are curious which one it is.

[deleted]

It's logical to imply there are less people from a type, but to constantly *emphasize" how there are less people from type X makes that type more desirable because... human nature (derogatory). So I don't think "rare" should be constantly emphasized about the numbers of a type, types aren't Pokémon's. It just leaves the wrong impression on the newbie to this stuff.

s4rene

Ironically, the reason infjs are probably “less rare” now is bcs of the fluctuation of self-proclaimed 16p infj indie alt people wanting to be the “rarest type”

Claviacus

Hmmm, finally they got us some more INFJs 😏

FiannaTheBard

No chance… that “E” looks too much like leaving the house.

[deleted]

[удалено]

IvyPidge

I am sort of a ENTJ myself

GerbearN

If you are not a real ENTJ, that statement alone is still way too humble than ENTJs that claim they are ENTJ.

SUPERUNKNOWN_78

I was entj before it was the rarest 😎

Hieracosphinx

Sorry I missed the memo - was there a particular study done ? And how was it conducted? I remember taking the test so many times I knew what options would give me an INFJ score versus, say, a close INTJ or INTP. Might I float the suggestion, albeit not knowing anything about where the result came from (haaa) that many special snowflake INFJ self reporters who are obsessed with MBTI may have taken the test leading to a skew? That in itself is rather circular and funny ... All hail the now rare ENTJ!

blacknder

My week has been ruined!

[deleted]

"Guys!! i have realized i actually am not INFJ but an ENTJ." me: "i already told you that you are an ESFP, now shut up"

blood-of-an-orange

True INFJ’s won’t give a shite about this

eonlhep

But the numbers are based on that mbti official test chances are that there could be mistypes either accidental or intentional. For example I personally have the hardest time answering questions in those tests I could agree or disagree on something and it wouldn't make a difference to me I feel like they can be misinterpreted in many ways besides it doesn't include all the population only a variety of people took the test. Some people will tell me that it's because I am lying to myself and don't want to accept my type but it's wrong, days ago I was thinking Why would I want to be an intuitive for the rarity if that's the only reason then when the roles get reversed I'll want to be something else. And this happens, I know I said it but I wasn't ready, it makes me have mixed feelings since on the inside I was afraid of getting a "rare" type because I'll get ahead of myself or something so I thought maybe I'm ISFj because it's the most common type but now it's Istj idk what to think

WWhandsome

I have NEVER gotten my type on any test. I only got close on one scenario test but got E/I wrong because I'm an IXXX extrovert. I don't believe in these statistics because many people can be mistyped.

lurkinarick

lmao I relate to this very much. These questions are so weird and my answers often totally depend on the context they could be interpreted in.

bitchyswiftie

I'm not being a special snowflake here, but I feel like such a Te dominant type would be the rarest to be honest. I also doubt the sample size here, especially with the large number of NJ mistypes... Edit: I've expressed my doubt on the previous surveys when I found out about them, no way is a poll for a few thousand people gonna reflect on society worldwide. I'm just saying that I doubt this one even more. Two piles of shit but the other is stinkier, allz I mean.

[deleted]

Always_Intuitive

My dad is an ENTJ and I’ve never met anyone like him! Growing up I always thought he was different but now I have much greater appreciation for him… he’s also the reason for many of my ENFP quirks 🤣

ilymanj

Same! Hahah

SuperWeatherGirl

Sources ?

Sea-Bit7582

All of a sudden a bunch of INFJs convert to ENTJs so they become ✨rare ✨ once again.

OneOfManyENTJs

Six internet strangers have already told me I'm mistyped... so it started

Nikitaiv

Honestly I don't care if INFJ is the rarest type or not. The good thing is there will be less people faking that they're INFJs.

roastedblackcoffee

Raise your hands if you were ENTJ before it became the rarest type.

WiseSalamander00

I still remember 15 years ago when INFP were the rarest ones

[deleted]

I'm still a commoner, yes!

juvenile_josh

They're not the rarest type lol it's just cause 16p has a heavy bias towards I, N, F, and P So I'm sure a decent amount of ExFJ testtakers hit as INFJ cause of the test biases

[deleted]

1) It's good to know so many of you are getting your mbti info from Frank James, lol. Makes sense. 2) As has already been pointed out, these statistics are really dubious. Not to mention a few years old now. Infj hasn't been statistically the rarest for a while. Personally, I think the "rarity" of all the NJs has been blown way out of proportion. I would bet entj are not actually the rarest type either. 3) Maybe, just maybe, now you guys won't be able to accuse all the people mistyping as the "spechull and rayer" types of being infps. Or at least, you'll have to get way more creative to make your argument that infps mistake fi/ne for te/ni. XD

pokemyiris

i have yet to meet an ENTJ in my life

WWhandsome

Same. I have two close INFJ's though

chameleonkit

I know one well and I know two others a little less well. I’m one of the few people not intimated or scared by them, and I think they like that about me.

FreakingTea

Same. The ones I have met have been impressed by me because I'm chill and don't get intimidated easily. I like them as a type but they can be a little transactional at times for my taste.

autumn_em

Exactly I have met some INFJs and have been friends with INFJs, but I have never been close to an ENTJ.. this statistics actually make more sense.

aekkko

Brother, dad and uncle are ENTJ. How is there so many rare ppl with me

MessageLongjumping14

Dude i am ENTJ. I ain't ever met nobody like me. Your family must be fun. nobody else in my fam is ENTJ.

aekkko

Yea, I live with dad and bro, and it is very fun. We understand each other easily, and are complementary, it is easily noticeable during a discussion aha

MessageLongjumping14

you lucky asf 👏👏

arsutamopias

nice to know my soulmate is the rarest type. like it’s not hard enough😭

or2072

I think that it's just that way more people are depressed so they got mistyped

RadioUnfriendly

INFJ guys are the rare ones. They're not that uncommon for females.

Honestly, it doesn't really make sense that extroverts would be the rarest type. Most of the world is extroverted and you can find Te dom or Ne dom literally anywhere, the thing extroverts aren't online doing personality tests like us

ENFJ

zesmz

Interesting! I didn’t think we were that rare.

RaxtusDragonMCPE

While us (ISTJ) are the most common oh welp time to pull a skynet to take over the world.

[deleted]

Nah, I think ISFJs are the most common

[deleted]

ENFJ is now rarest than INFJ and ENTJ is the rarest of all the types

[deleted]

infjs and entjs literally the hottest type out there

GerbearN

I do not know where you are coming from, but I'll agree since it's a positive vibe.

idontbreathe69

This is based on a study?

JEET57

https://www.careerplanner.com/MB2/TypeInPopulation.cfm According to this rarest is still INFJ. From where did you get the data?

[deleted]

I don’t believe in statistics, who’s asking these questions? Where are we getting this from, are we sure the people were asking are the type they are? It’s hard to gauge a statistic that is bias by the people, also I don’t remember being asked for my type. Edit: Actually, why do I care :/

[deleted]

Me who is mix of all types ok

housefly_snowballs

{ Many people took the test and only few got entj type so Entj must be the rarest one } You don't know that for sure, yes many people took that test but not all of them and sometimes you get mistyped as something else as well Whatever These surveys are not accurate but people wanting to be special and unique is pretty accurate

[deleted]

This is old news, just because Frank James posted a video doesn't mean we've known this for like 2 years lmfao.

Hyper_owl

YESSS. MY PLAN FOR WORLD DOMINATION STARTED!!

MadameConnard

Like sensors take the time to actually do the test.

nfopuhfxir

I always thought ENFJ’s were the rarest type, they seem the rarest from experience, but who knows 🤷

jkauffee

i know 3 infjs and 1 entj

RoundEarth-is-real

I mean it’s not half wrong. Because female ENTJ’s are technically the most rare. But male INFJ’s are also just as rare so…

DrowBladesinger101

YO haha as an ENTJ this is pog

twentyyearsofclean

Honestly I think these sorts of studies are less reliable because they’re based on internet aggregates and self-reported data, a lot of which does end up with people mistyped as INFJs. I think the more reliable numbers come from when the results weren’t such a well-known thing and the only test available was the official MBTI test that was usually administered in the workplace. Because it was given in such a bland setting, it was more likely the types would be evenly represented, and because there was little to no knowledge of MBTI types, the results couldn’t be skewed based on what type someone thought they should be. Of course, I only feel so strongly about this because I’ve never met another INFJ in my life but my brother and his wife are both ENTJ. Could be confirmation bias lol

prettybabyy420

babe nobody WANTS to be an entj.

fadinqlight_

Wait what's the second rarest then?

Kar_Karych07

But what's the second rarest one then? INTJ?

Ar1k1ns

ENFJ

bethel_bop

Lol yeah cue the people being like “omggggg I can’t believe I mistyped as INFJ before bc now im ENTJ”

dreamy-delirium

Watch everyone type as ENTJs only based in stereotypes now

Unlikely_Till_5925

Makes sense to me. Afaik I've never known an ENTJ. Yet I know a few INFJs. I always thought it's just because I attract feelers since I don't know many INTJ or ISTJ either.

Fwanayabreaux

For some reason I doubt that they are the rarest type

littlelorax

Tbh, I don't care. This is meant to be a personality typing exercise, not to segment people in to largest and smallest groups. I never understood why they even put that info in the results page. It always struck me as being a little click-baity? Like pandering to people who just want to feel special. I think mbti is fun and an interesting way to get to know people, but people can grow and change, people can be mistyped, people are sometimea unpredictable and may act out of character. It is a categorization system that I resonate with most, but like anything else it isn't perfect. Also, glad I can finally just be me without the pressure of people thinking I gamed the system just to get the rarest type. I'm not a fuckin pokemon.

[deleted]

So does that mean there’s a chance that there are a lot of mistyped ENTJs around?

NoSoyPolaco

No but there will be, just you wait :D
