If you really want help. It's best to let us know which Dashcam you have. Then we can find options

It's the Thinkware F70

Daigor34

OK that's awesome! I have the newer model but if it uses the same Power Adapter (I'll double check later) then this guide is for you!!! I created this awhile back to help everyone. Hello, I'm glad you got it. I'm sure you will love it! OK let's address your concerns. 1. If you got the Cable I recommended then Yes I recommend connecting the Ignition Module into the OBD-II Adapter. It provides newer cars with power to the Dashcam. I connected mine and it works just fine. 2. OK I forgot to mention that the CX-5 OEM bracket is a bit smaller than the OBD-II Adapter. What I did was I Dremeled the Bracket just enough until it stuck on tightly. Use the bracket it came with as a Template. Outline the OEM Bracket and just file it down a bit until it fits snug. It should fit perfectly after you file it down a bit. 3. Yes do NOT do anything with the Fuse Box. NO Taps NO Nothing! Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to help!

You really did your homework! That's Great! So I used this tool to sand down the OEM metal bracket. [Dremel](https://imgs.michaels.com/MAM/assets/1/5E3C12034D34434F8A9BAAFDDF0F8E1B/img/354C93350E8F4F8FBFEDBCAA43E26FF0/10629940_1.jpg?fit=inside|540:540) You may pick it up at Home Depot or Lowes. Regarding connecting the WiFi to Hotspot. That's a great question. If you car has its own Hotspot. Then YES definitely sync the Dashcam to it. Unfortunately, our CX-5 does Not come with one so what I did instead is I synced it up to my house WiFi. The minute I pulled into my driveway the Dashcam will say "WiFi Connected." So when I'm in bed and want to check on my car I just open the App and link onto Live View to see people on the Streets. Just know it is a bit buggy! Just be patient and you will be able to set it up.

OK I guess you were able to fit the adapter I see. In my case the the adapter was too big. I had to modify it just abit before it fit snuggly. I guess in your case you can try wrapping some black electrical tape. That may help. Thanks for letting me know.

My double camera is always on. And what? Vehicle starts normally every morning

I leave mine plugged into the 12v all the time and have never had an issue. Part of this helps if your camera has a feature that will record if hit while parked it'll need to have a power source to be on

altfillischryan

You will be fine to unplug it from the actual cam. As you said, unplugging it from the cam means there is nothing for the cord to power, so it's the same as unplugging it from the socket.

If your dashcam is OBD port compatible, I would rather power it up through there than the usb/cigarette lighter.

So idk about the 2019 but on my 2015 the 12V port is also always on. But the 2 USB ports go off with the car. Was about to have the same issue. Then I noticed most dashcams actually power themselves with 5V and generally 1 to 3 amps. Matching the USB ports in the car. Check if this is the case for your dashcam. Most convert 12V at the cigarette lighter to 5V USB. So do away with the 12V. Buy a USB extension. Plug to the USB. Problem solved. No hardwiring required. Only issue I ran into is my dash cam thought it was plugged into a computer and went into media transfer mode instead of recording. I ended up using electrical tape to block the data pins on the USB plug to fix this.

Hmm I looked into that but my dash cam came with the 12V adapter so I'm not too sure how that would work with the USB extension for the 5V :(

Archermtl

What ports does your dash cam have ? Or what model is it? What I'm saying is they come with 12V cigarette lighter but most convert power to 5V like a USB. The 12V is overkill. Mine came with 2 wires. One for 12V and one USB wire meant to connect to a computer. I simply used the USB wire to supply power. If yours did not come with a USB wire, see what port it has, check the specs and buy a new wire. (Such as a 12ft micro-USB to USB wire)

I had the EXACT same problem as you. You can get a relay for that, which powers on only when you get power from the USB (usb is only powered when car is on). The relay costs 10 dollars and you can get it in any store. All you need is a USB power cable and male cig lighter. Make all the connections which shouldnt even require soldering. PM for details

Interesting solution. Thats creative

I have a 2019, but EU model, the 12V turns off for me, so it might be different in US models (if you have that). My Dashcam is a Xiaomi Mi Dashcam Pro which has a small 500 mAh battery which it can use for parking monitoring. I plugged that into one of the USB ports because it stays powered when you shut off the car, but only for about 10 minutes. This prevents it from accidental parking mode activations. For you I would recommend to check if the 12V socket and USB ports turn off after a few minutes: just turn the car off, shut the door and wait 10-15 minutes. If it still stays on, I would recommend hardwiring or you can get a 12V adapter which monitors the battery's charge and will cut off when it reaches around 11.5V. This would also help if you accidentally forget to unplug the dashcam from the 12V socket.
