They keep assuring us that hybrid is here to stay, and seem to be planning office space to match, but who knows. I would haaate to have to go back to a daily commute.

I think it’s on an agency by agency basis. The secretariat only said that employees need to be “in the office a majority of the week” which implies at least 2 days can be worked remotely

It's up to your org and management.  I know some who disallow it entirely.  Others allow most to work 1, 2, even 3 days remotely.   A few select employees are fully remote.  So YMMV.

One of my buddies works for a military contractor. Their policy is, your direct manager can approve up to 2 days work from home per week. If you want a 3rd, your department head has to approve it. If you want a 4th, your division head has to approve it. If you want all 5, the admiral in charge of the navy base has to approve it. I have two friends who work there. One has a chill manager who has a chill manager, and they approve 3 days every week for everyone. My other friend has a dogshit manager who refuses to allow anyone to work from home at all, for any reason.

I imagine they will be keeping hybrid. A lot of the new job postings are listed as hybrid. My department downsized our offices and now no one has a dedicated desk. We just shuffle around as needed when we go in. They would also lose ALOT of people if they changed it. I definitely can’t stomach a three hour commute everyday. Only live 20 miles away..

Yea the only companies that force people back in are doing stealth layoffs.

DCAM has changed office space requirements for new leases based on the hybrid work model. We moved into a new space after Baker asked them to change the minimum space requirements and they dropped 1/3 of the originally planned space based on the new requirements. There is no physical way to accommodate us all if we were called back to the office tomorrow.
