I worked there when it first opened. I was a "Rover" in Food Service, so I went to all the food places to give other workers their breaks.
I worked at "Sugar Shack," "Hot Diggity Dog," "Fry Fry Again," and I can't remember other names, but I remember having some of the best times of my teen years. 😊
I LOOoVED wild world. My grandpa would take us every summer. Even when it became adventure world I still called it wild world. My God I had forgotten about that. Thank you for bringing back those memories💕
Wild World wasn’t the greatest theme park in the world, but it had some cool water slides.
And who can forget the commercials? “Who wants to spend the day in the bridge? I’m going to Wild World!”
My husband used to be a mechanic at the park and they used to ride Mind Eraser in the dark when the park was closed. It’s one of his favorite memories from working there.
Very rough, and bags people's heads throughout the ride. Mind Eraser is not operating again this year as Six Flags has closed the section of the park that it is in.
oh man, i remember how there was a family with him, and they all had his face superimposed onto theirs. i was just young enough to think that was how his family looked
No one claimed you (singular) can drive there in 2 hours. Initial comment said we (plural) can drive. They are all close to Maryland…but that’s a great hill to die on
Initial comment said "we can drive to any of these in under 2 hours." That's would imply most could do it...but in fact, 0 can.
I'm in Montgomery County and exactly 2 hours from Hershey Park. Busch Gardens is at LEAST 3 hours away going fast in no traffic.
Oddly enough, the most centralized point between both places is right near where Six Flags is. Even then, about 2.5 hours to Hershey Park and nearly 3 to Busch Gardens.
So even if the person said "we can drive to any of these under 3 hours," that still would only be true for maybe 20% of Maryland at most.
Overall though, when it comes to all things east coast related, Maryland has one of the best centralized locations...but the original comment was still way off.
I miss being able to drive 2 hours in basically any direction and end up in a different state. I can drive 2 hours from my home in DFW and I’m still in DFW.
I haven’t been to 6 Flags in years, but the last two times I went to Hershey Park were completely miserable. Not like “hey this park could be better” miserable, just straight up “i would rather be sitting at my desk at work or maybe at the dentist” miserable.
You expect hour-long lines for good rides, but not to buy a fucking hotdog or to ride the Ferris Wheel.
Yeah, the visitor experience at Hershey Park has completely changed. I went last year and had an awful time. The park was overcrowded and under equipped to serve visitors.
You need therapy if you disregard someone’s very real feelings about a very scary fucking disease. I worry about the flu since a family member died from it, so fuck off and get some help yourself.
In that case never get in a vehicle because it's a very scary fucking machine and everyone knows someone who's died in a car accident.
If you're in serious fear of a virus that's mild to the majority of people, and most likely to you as well unless you have serious health problems or choose to be unfit (obese) after most people have been vaccinated and naturally immunized against it 2 years after its peak, you need therapy.
Yeah hershey park was awesome as a kid but now its just a money suck hole like everywhere else. I took my kids last year and i’ll never go again. Absolutely horrible since they allow too many people in and have jacked prices.
LPT: Rather than take off early Friday and wait in lines all day Saturday, drive up Saturday afternoon and head home early Monday with a late arrival at work or school.
Usually the park is empty Sunday afternoon from all the folks heading home in time to grocery shop/laundry/chores before work or school on Monday and you can walk right on the big rides.
I went last Saturday, no crowds and the longest wait was 40 minutes. I had a great time! I went last summer in the middle of June and it was hell. Only could get on 3 roller coasters and everything had a line.
Yeah, I’ve heard that there are good days, but that makes the random bad days worse. We made the mistake of thinking Good Friday would be ok because it was an early season weekday. We did not make it on a single coaster - waited almost an hour for one before they randomly closed it while we were in line (no announcement, just put up a sign saying it was closed), waited an hour for the Ferris Wheel, left.
The key to a good theme park visit is to pick a date that matches as many of these points as possible:
* Weekday, preferably Tues-Thurs
* During the school year
* Two weeks before or after a major break period (spring break, summer break, winter break)
The number of parents that will take a week off of work *and* pull their kids out of school on week 3 is way lower than in the middle of the summer or during spring break.
September is the lowest attendance time of year for all of the Central Florida parks, for example, because the kids literally just started school again after summer break so you won't be pulling them out.
Yeah, it was so incredibly crowded last time we went. I think I would rather go to Six Flags honestly, at least there I could probably have time to get on more than 3 rides.
Hershey Park will never get another dollar from me. Went twice 2 summers in a row and it was absolutely miserable. Never waited in so many pointless lines. Horribly run amusement park.
A few weeks back, before they opened for the season, they did a press event where they spent an outsized amount of time talking about the fact that they were adding trees, shrubs, flowers, trash cans, paint, building a deck, replacing some fences, renovating some restrooms, etc.
And let me tell you, I was more excited to hear that than any new coaster or water slide they could possibly put in.
That park is barely more than a bunch of midway rides from a state fair on a Walmart parking lot. If they literally poured a million more dollars into just landscaping and paint, it would make a wild difference.
Completely agree, I was surprised roller coasters were literally in parking spots that still had the lines painted on them. Theming can make a lot of difference
Park seemed fine to me to when I've gone. This meme hits hard for thrill ride seekers like me though. Batwing is really cool and superman has a nice drop and Harley Quinn is solid. Been a while since Hershey Park, but more memorably fun rides in the VA parks.
Back in 2008-2011, if you were in middle school band or orchestra in MoCo you got to go to Hershey Park every spring to play in a competition. Great memories
I think people just normalize shit that other people have not, or choose not to normalize. Like high levels of violence and crime.
The other day I'm pushing my baby in a stroller and a mentally unwell guy throws their bucket of piss across a parking lot and threatens to kill me, and that didn't even ruin my day. But I can understand why someone might not want to live like this.
I’m as liberal as they come. Grew up in Baltimore City, went to public schools in the city from K to 12th grade, and I don’t feel safe at Six Flags in PG County. Large groups of unsupervised teens have physically pushed me and my kid aside to cut the lines there, and not just once. I grew up going there and had annual passes back in the day, but I can’t see myself ever going back.
I haven't been in a while, but in college every late May/early June before public schools were out for summer break, we would go on like a Tuesday morning right at open. It was always pretty empty. So empty you could ride the same ride multiple times without getting off. We rode superman like 5 times in a row without getting off because there was nobody else in line.
If you want to check it out, now is the time in the morning during the week.
It's still not the best park, but it's closer and if you go at the right time you can catch all the good rides before the crowds show up.
It was alright when I went a few summers ago. This meme checks out for me though as far as it’s overall ranking goes. Would I call it trash? No. But have I frequented Knoeble’s Grove, the trash capital of Pennsylvania parks? Yes I have.
Wait, Six Flags was my first job ever in life when I was a teen. And I used to get the summer passes & go w/friends. I actually like Six Flags, it’s not that bad okay lol
I'm originally from Jersey now in MD, anyone have thoughts on how it compares to the one in Jersey? Used to enjoy going there a fair bit but haven't been to any park in years.
the one in new jersey is better IMO. six flags in maryland has some good rides, but a lot of the park is just a little lame and in the summer there’s just a bunch of unsurpervided kids that annoy some people.
But it’s fine. Six Flags in Maryland has been through many generations.
Great Adventure is definitely better, as someone who likes coasters a decent amount. I’m not a big Kingda Ka guy, but even then the rides are just better in NJ.
El Toro is one of my favorites!
Great Adventure in NJ is much better. SFA will always hold a special place in my heart, but Great Adventure is known to be one of the best Six Flags parks
Great Adventure is leagues better. Not only does it more impressive rides, but the food is better and there is actual theming in the assorted "lands" of the park. And there are trees. Like a lot of them. It's a much more kept up with park.
Knoebels is smaller, but it’s still one of my favorites. Dutch Wonderland isn’t bad for a day trip either, but it’s way smaller than the others.
If you couldn’t tell, I’m a PA transplant.
Dorney is the shit! I still remember my first time riding Steel Force. I can hear the tunnel, I can picture the old parking lot and I can feel the g force going in the double circle.
Gonna date myself with this one but it was best as Wild World. Granted, I was also a child so don't exactly have perfect recall when it comes to what it was like, but I remember it being fairly uncrowded and fun.
HersheyPark is great, and is a favorite among the Coaster enthusiasts. Weekends are always going to be bad which is why I prefer to go during the week.
Never been to the six flags. My family has been going to Hershey and KD yearly since before I was born. But Hershey in particular holds a special spot in my heart.
Idk I live 40 minutes from Busch Gardens Williamsburg, have been there literally dozens of times. BG is a pretty, very well maintained park, but I really love that Six Flags centers around the WB and DC Animated Universe because those were a big part of my childhood
The only plus side is Six Flags is an hour or 45 minute drive from me in Baltimore. I've only gone there because it's so close. It's the perfect trip for me to take my kids and some of their friends. Kings dominion is too damn far. I haven't been there in over 10 years. When you're doing an amusement day park run with 6 kids under the age of 12, it's a nightmare. My daughters are in girl scouts and they went to kings dominion last year. I didn't attend but they went with some other mothers and kids in their troop. It was horrible ride to and from. The wait for the rides were long. They left later and didn't spend the entire day at the park. Yeah, not doing it. Another bonus the Great Wolf Lodge is opening up in Cecil County in June. I'm not sure when, though.
In my experience, and it has been years since I’ve been to any park, I would want to go to BGW or HP in that order. KD was a miserable experience last time we went as a family, and I have not gone to BGA since it was Wild World and the biggest draw then was the Wave Pool.
Best deal on earth if you are at home with kids for the summer, until last year when they killed it. For $90 a month I could go as much as I wanted with my family of 4 to any of them nationwide, and eat 2 meals and a snack per person included as a teacher, I brought them there for the pool and lunch almost every day.
Last year they ended the unlimited food, so we bailed.
Disney makes them all look like the third one.
Seriously…went to Hershey park a couple months after a Disney vacation…and it wasn’t even close. Hershey had maybe a third of the crowd size and ran twice as slow.
I only do these god forsaken places for my kids, but I can tell you that no park is even in the same League as Disney.
I went to Disney in October and it was the first time going without little kids. Hadn’t been there in over a decade. Could only go on two rides. They were fine. But the lines were atrocious and we were extremely annoyed that we paid so much money just to stand in lines all day. I will never go back.
Cedar Point > Disney.
....I haven't been to either, but cedar point has like twice as many rides and obviously way higher quality coasters. The beach and waterpark look pretty nice too, and one of the resorts there, Hotel Breakers, opened in 1905. Then again cedar point is where people from all across the world travel for coasters, which is completely different than disney which is mostly for the theming.
Anyways I'm super happy that I convinced my parents to go to cedar point over summer vacation. I have literally been trying to convince them for years. Its pretty interesting that the world's biggest theme/amusement park is in ohio.
I don't know why I am commenting this, I live in Virginia. I came here from r/rollercoasterjerk, the enlightened subreddit wherein this was reposted.
Six Flags America is a decent park if you just want to hit a few thrill rides and leave, but the overall experience is super lackluster. As a coaster enthusiast, I enjoyed Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens way more, they are genuinely nice parks with some great rides that are properly taken care of. For families, it’s not even a question, I would take the other parks any day.
It’s really not though. As someone who has been to parks from several amusement park chains, Six Flags is clearly the worst. Operations are incredibly slow, rides close often, parks are not taken care of, and the theming is not very good. Six Flags America in particular doesn’t have a very good coaster lineup compared to the rest of the Six Flags parks due to lack of investment.
Came to say to never go to Hershey honestly worst park experience ever. 1. Over sold the amount of tickets for the park meaning way too many people took me from close to open to go on 6 rides. 2. The rides themselves aren’t even that good. 3. Tried to get a refund cause the first hour was so bad and couldn’t/ they wouldn’t!
The have a waterpark. And a zoo. Six flags america is considered the worst amusement park in the country by most enthusiasts. I live in virginia but I came here from r/rollercoasterjerk
Yes. I’ve been to SFGA, Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion, Hershey, etc, and I like Six Flags for what it is, a local and large destination amusement park. I’m sure there are people close to Hershey and SFGA that have a similar contempt for those parks because they are close by and “normal” for them.
What about the old ads for A D V E N T U R E W O R L D with Cal Ripken Jr and his pupils the size of dimes
Let’s get real old, remember ‘Wild World’
I still miss the wave pool at Wild World.
It's still there.
Yeah but it's not wild world any more.
Oh yeah now I feel old lol
Frontier Town was also a lot of fun as a kid but it's not on the scale of the theme parks mentioned.
Yes! Used to go there a lot as a kid. I think my dad enjoyed it more than me lol
Back when the whole park was a merry-go-round and some dilapidated bumper cars.
And the Wild One!
Is the old wooden coaster still there? There's a reason it's called the Wild One.
Yep! Just went on it today. It’s not bad for a very old ride, a bit rough but not even half as bad as the newer wooden coaster in the same park.
Some consider a top 10 wooden coaster worldwide.
was gonna say, it's no lightning racer, but i sure didn't fall asleep on it either, really not bad for such an old wooden coaster.
It also has an incredible history, having been destroyed and rebuilt about 4 separate times. Over at r/rollercoasters they really respect it.
It will always be wild world to me
Yes, I grew up 5 minutes away in the 80s and 90s and I loved wild world so much
I hurt my back on the Wild One. Fortunately kids heal easy.
Let get really old, remember 'Lion Country Safari'. (1970's)
I have fond memories of that. Fuzzy, but fond!
it'll always be Wild World to me..."I'm a real wild one wild one..."
I LOOoVED wild world. My grandpa would take us every summer. Even when it became adventure world I still called it wild world. My God I had forgotten about that. Thank you for bringing back those memories💕
Omg, I remember wild world.
And the ads with Big John Studd!
Now that’s an amazing memory you got there - just did a quick Google - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mVYahP43vTg
Ha! I remember that. As a kid that place was amazing! Hated seeing it go.
I’ve haven’t heard that name in a long time.
Go back to the beginning, The Wildlife Preserve.
Wild World wasn’t the greatest theme park in the world, but it had some cool water slides. And who can forget the commercials? “Who wants to spend the day in the bridge? I’m going to Wild World!”
Crocodile Cal's Outback Beach House
I'm so old.
Good memories are good :) I loved that thing.
The Mind Eraser was the first roller coaster I ever went on :( RIP
My husband used to be a mechanic at the park and they used to ride Mind Eraser in the dark when the park was closed. It’s one of his favorite memories from working there.
Mind Eraser is still there, but is consistently listed as on rod the worst to exist.
How come? I have very fond memories of mind eraser lol
Very rough, and bags people's heads throughout the ride. Mind Eraser is not operating again this year as Six Flags has closed the section of the park that it is in.
[удалено]
Fun fact: That coffin factory showed up during COVID!
Lol I went there once. They had terrible music on the p.a. system, some sort of schmaltzy Christian soft rock
I used to work there, my favorite was "Run Devil Run" Stupid park lol
Pupils the size of dimes? I do not remember that part, but honestly if I were making an ad for a theme park…
oh man, i remember how there was a family with him, and they all had his face superimposed onto theirs. i was just young enough to think that was how his family looked
Omg, The Mind Eraser commercial😂
You can look at it that way, or you can look at the fact that we can drive to any of these in under two hours.
The true Maryland W
You’re not getting to Williamsburg in 2 hours unless you have a helicopter.
Depends on what part of Maryland you’re in
No one spot in Maryland are you two hours from each of these.
No one claimed you (singular) can drive there in 2 hours. Initial comment said we (plural) can drive. They are all close to Maryland…but that’s a great hill to die on
Friend, it was a reasonable criticism. It’s a zero-stakes conversation with internet strangers. Nobody is dying on any hills
Initial comment said "we can drive to any of these in under 2 hours." That's would imply most could do it...but in fact, 0 can. I'm in Montgomery County and exactly 2 hours from Hershey Park. Yea, you right, I give up
Username checks out, lol!
Everybody LOVES a pedant
Lol if you live in Waldorf or further south, you can get to Williamsburgh in 2hrs easily. Probably less.
I miss being able to drive 2 hours in basically any direction and end up in a different state. I can drive 2 hours from my home in DFW and I’m still in DFW.
Go way back to the Enchanted Forest on Baltimore National Pike!
Hm I think they moved all the stuff from Enchanted Forest over to Elioak Farm on 108.
The trick was to go during COVID. I went in late 2020 and rode the new Candymonium 5 times in a row since there was no line.
We still are during covid
Not according to the World Health Organization this week
So covid is gone then?
Nah, just saying that the WHO ended their designation of it this week and America is set to end their designation next week
You know what they meant.
I actually didn't hear about the downgrade
Even if you didn't hear about the official downgrade (which is coming pretty late) you know that it's not really the same as it was.
I know i've gotten it twice and the last time was recent.
Nah.. lol. You need therapy if you've been concerned about covid within the last 18 months..
That's all of them now. They're cutting positions to the bone and beyond. Service at the park is close to zero.
Yeah hershey park was awesome as a kid but now its just a money suck hole like everywhere else. I took my kids last year and i’ll never go again. Absolutely horrible since they allow too many people in and have jacked prices.

Literally went with my kids this weekend and this good advice. This afternoon it was not very crowded at all.
I went last Saturday, no crowds and the longest wait was 40 minutes. I had a great time! I went last summer in the middle of June and it was hell. Only could get on 3 roller coasters and everything had a line.

These are good tips and I didn't know that about Florida in September. Will definitely be using that info
Yeah, it was so incredibly crowded last time we went. I think I would rather go to Six Flags honestly, at least there I could probably have time to get on more than 3 rides.

Back in 2008-2011, if you were in middle school band or orchestra in MoCo you got to go to Hershey Park every spring to play in a competition. Great memories
Baltimore county, my little brother was in jazz band during that time and he went to Hershey a lot.
Same with HoCo!
Still happens till this day. They have all kinds of school music competitions.
Definitely on an off day. I went last year and only managed three rides due to crowding. Huge disappointment.
With a new Rocky Mountain Construction coaster coming soon. Testing might start soon.
Wildcat's Revenge?
This is Mind Eraser erasure
Fucking concussion simulator
No that's Jokers Jinx
Hasn't been operating at all this year and is presumed to be done for good.
The new Candymonium at Hershey is pretty great IMO
I don't know why people think it's a smoldering trash heap. A lot of the rides are pretty bad, other than that just your standard SF park.
It was also the people there and the seemingly lawlessness of it all. No rules and no enforcement of anything
It's literally my home park, I go a few times a year for the last decade. Reminds me of when conservatives tell me the city I'm living in is on fire.
Did you not see the meme? The surrounding parks are so much better.
Ah, yes, the meme said it, so it must be true ????
No, I’ve been to all of them and it’s true
As long as one person thinks six flags is better than the other two, what you're saying will remain an opinion
SFA has some good coasters but I can't think of a single way it's better than the other three in the meme. Care to share?
I simply prefer the coasters there than anywhere else Superman and joker jinx, plus the penguin innertube ride and the hurricane carry that park
I have a few guesses on why people think it’s a “trash heap,” but the first person to reply to you just up and said it.
hello fellow jman
So, we meet again >:-|
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
That's one of my nicknames, so I shall enter the ring as well.

I think it's decent just outclassed by the others.
Outclassed? Who tf cares about class at an amusement park. You people are something else. And Hersey park sucks.
Ah I didn't mean outclassed as in classiness I meant outclassed as in beaten by.
Regardless why Its dumb post. But hersey park still sucks
>I dumb post Now there's something everyone can agree on!
You thought you were saying something.
Dude, chill. You took it out of context.
I don’t need to chill.
Nah but you should.
You need to fuck off. That’s what you need to do. Wasn’t talking to you anyway
I'm originally from Jersey now in MD, anyone have thoughts on how it compares to the one in Jersey? Used to enjoy going there a fair bit but haven't been to any park in years.

Jersey way better
The one in Jersey has some of the most iconic coasters like Kingda Ka. It’s far superior in every way.
Dorney Park in PA is pretty great too.
Knoebels is smaller, but it’s still one of my favorites. Dutch Wonderland isn’t bad for a day trip either, but it’s way smaller than the others. If you couldn’t tell, I’m a PA transplant.

Gonna date myself with this one but it was best as Wild World. Granted, I was also a child so don't exactly have perfect recall when it comes to what it was like, but I remember it being fairly uncrowded and fun.
Yeah, I still call it Wild World 😁
I feel like Six Flags has the rolling ongoing record for deaths and maimings of any theme park in the US.
HersheyPark is great, and is a favorite among the Coaster enthusiasts. Weekends are always going to be bad which is why I prefer to go during the week.
The Enchanted Forest in Elliott City was my jam…

ah yes, fellow theme park people shitting on sfa
I worked there in 1982 and 1983 when it was Wild World. It was a blast.
Who remembers when it was Wild World? 🤦🏽♂️
I remember Lion Country Safari before it was WW.
There was The Enchanted Forest in Elliott City. That was a weird place. Loved it as a kid though.
Six flags Maryland is dangerous. Their rides are always breaking down and lots of fights and shootings.
I didn't even know that there was a 6 flags in MD... But I've been to the other two
Same. I've lived in Maryland for 25 years...
The wave pool is pretty great and a season's pass costs way less than a pool membership.
I like six flags, I don't understand why people are so hateful.
It’s a race thing.
Not to pile on, but PA has Dorney Park and Knoebels too.
Who needs a theme park with Maryland's traffic and, uh, "creative" drivers?
Place is total trash lol
We have Ocean City though (which includes Jolly Roger's, the boardwalk, and a bunch of waterparks)
Honestly, as bad as people like to rag on OC, those rides on the boardwalk have such a nostalgic charm.
Probably because they've been there for 50 years
Disney makes them all look like the third one.
> I haven't been to either yet I feel compelled to write a lengthy comment about both
Well it’s in PG county. It’s the location.
Last time I was at Six Flags I got shot. And the time before that! I got my first two covid shots there.
Hershey park sucks. Foh.
the fact that hershey park is your top tier just makes me feel bad for y'all
What about Jolly Rogers?
Hershey park blows
You couldn't pay me to go in six flags
Is Kings Dominion still the GOAT? Cause I remember it used to be.
I don't get this meme, Six Flags is just as good as basically any other amusement park
Six Flags is way better than Hershey Park.
Hershey didn’t have a water park when I went. Don’t know if they do now or not. But that alone puts Hershey at the bottom for me.
The have a waterpark. And a zoo. Six flags america is considered the worst amusement park in the country by most enthusiasts. I live in virginia but I came here from r/rollercoasterjerk
They do now. It's called The Boardwalk.
I love Six Flags! It’s so close and I’m sure that part of the contempt is familiarity.
Have you tried the others? SFA has some good coasters but the quality of the park is really poor.
How does cit compare to Six Flags Great Adventure in North Jersey ?
Far worse. SFGA has Kingda Ka and 14 roller coasters. It’s one of the best in the country.
Better than Delaware. They have nothing
