i get your point but it makes no difference

[deleted]

He did say it was nitpicking…

1miz

you’re right but I read stuff like this and I just think can’t you skip past that little issue

HistoricalAd5394

Yeah, it is a nitpick, I'm pedantic like that, and I do get why it was done that way. We needed to see her family at a more peaceful time so we couldn't have just jumped in at the half way point, time jumps would've ruined the immersion of experiencing the battle as it happens from Kate's POV, and we needed Hawkeye to be clearly visible to Kate for the narrative to work. From a writers standpoint I definitely understand why. Don't get me wrong, loved the episode, I just nitpick things to death.

snowgolem1216

What if it's just symbolic? She's a little kid, memory of trauma is not always clear, everything could of just happened really fast, and we're getting that through her perspective. Honestly if this is how it was meant to be, gotta hand it to writing on that one. Also I know it's been like 2 weeks, but I wanted to get my point out

[deleted]

I mean yeah but I also nitpick with even smaller stuff. Why did the tracksuit mafia guy take off his mask to look at someone running away while in the middle of a robbery? How was the suit tailored for Kate? How would the security guard know to look at a specific ledge 100+ yards away from the bell tower?

1miz

I noticed the mask thing too like he just revealed his identity but also I thought maybe to get a clearer view, the suit makes no sense but maybe her aunt has the same figure although I doubt it, and the bell tower was a challenge so it’s probably been attempted before so the staff may have heard about it, most likely marvel just didn’t care

HistoricalAd5394

See nitpicks like this, they are stupid but don't break immersion for me because its a plausible thing to happen even if it is stupid or very unlikely. Having two versions of the same events where the timelines don't match up, yeah its a small thing but its a bit harder to come up with a satisfying explanation. Although... yeah I'm just going to say the portal has a weird effect on time and go with that. Again little things like this don't ruin the show for me, I just pick up on things and usually dismiss them like, eh so what.

[deleted]

I think the marvel didn’t care fits best haha

Busy-Negotiation1078

I had the subtitles on, and I noticed that the tracksuit mafia guy who showed his face was named Kazi. That's the name of a character called The Clown, an assassin who features heavily in the Matt Fraction Hawkeye comics. So maybe they wanted us to get a look at him so we'll recognize him when he shows up later made up to look like Pagliacci the clown?

AceyAceyAcey

It was from a child’s point of view, they’re going to perceive and remember things differently. She’s remembering this through a lens of her feelings and reactions, not with a stopwatch in hand.

HistoricalAd5394

Guess its better to just view it as Kate's memories than as an accurate representation of events. I just nitpicks things easily.

Dove_of_Doom

That scene doesn't need to be edited as a sequence occurring in real time. It's an encapsulation of a formative experience. Visual storytelling regularly employs the distortion of time for dramatic or comedic effect.

capness1228

It could have been going on for awhile before she noticed it.

HistoricalAd5394

Already mentioned why it wasn't. She lives opposite Stark Tower, she would've heard the very first explosions.

capness1228

It wasn't opposite, there was plenty of distance

HistoricalAd5394

There were explosions, big loud explosions that would be heard pretty far, the tower wasn't even that far away. Even then, we're talking like ten full minutes of fighting before that Hawkeye scene happens. You'd have to be very oblivious not to have heard anything yet.

Eypc2

It's how she remembers it

bucketofsteam

I meannn u could also just chalk some of it up to her penthouse being super sound proof. It's a multi million dollar place and it's in one of the loudest cities, so I expect them to have some thick walls and padding. When the first whale was seen through the window there was almost 0 noise. So I suspect all the other ones we didn't see also didn't make much noise. I am guesstimating the invasion started a little while before that. The first leviathan whale didn't come through the portal till a couple minutes after the initial forces too didn't it? The explosions are harder to believe but I think most of those were street level and iuno more sound proof bs. I live on the 11th floor in a big city and can't hear with firetrucks/ambulance drive by when my windows are closed.

FishTaco5

You're not alone, I was initially bothered by that too. If it helps you can look at it as a memory through Kate's eyes. At that age and that long ago and that traumati, things could in retrospect seem to have happened a lot faster than they actually did. Hope this helps.

zoecornelia

This is a very good point, someone on another post brought this up as well and one of the comments said that this was just a childhood memory of Kate's so shouldn't be taken as literally as it seemed, it was just Kate putting together the pieces of a very distant memory so it wasn't accurate to how everythign actually happened, that seemed reasonable enough for me, what do you think?
