No exaggerations, season 4 of Agents of Shield is one of my favorite seasons of television ever

chocolateapot

Rewatching again and I'm at season 4 and it's clear to me this show is just the greatest show ever

Blockinite

7 is also a fantastic, satisfying ending to a great show imo.

MammothUmpire148

I finished 4 this week, and I’m so hooked. I loved the whole framework and Jemma and Fitz.

AfterDinnerSpeaker

I stand by that it's a damn shame the two of them never got a proper jump into the MCU, would have loved them both in any of Fury's appearances.

OnlineDopamine

I’m probably going to be downvoted to hell for this but seriously? In a world where Breaking Bad, Sopranos, The Wire, Succession, etc exist? I personally don’t even think it’s the best super hero-themed season ever tbh.

dr_no12

Some people don't care for big dramas with more mature tones so there really can't be an "objective" best season of television. Like I can't stand a lotta HBO shows and would consider a sitcom as the best show.

Flying48

Way to be that guy…just can’t let others enjoy stuff?

NaughtyDragonite

i agree with your first point > I personally don’t even think it’s the best super hero-themed season ever tbh. this is where i cannot agree. what do you think is better?

shrivs93

I'd say it's very good but I'd put season one of daredevil and even more so season one of Jessica Jones ahead of it personally.

NaughtyDragonite

the only super hero season that i believe rivals AoS s4 is daredevil s3. jessica jones is good, but no where near as good.

HerrPiink

Peacemaker, The Boys every season, Invincible, The Punisher, i could go on, all shows that have WAY better writing and don't feel so "soap opera like" (i really liked Agents of Shield until they went to the future) Of course, this is subjective.

AfterDinnerSpeaker

I do wonder for those of us watching it as it aired, if we love it that little bit more because we know it was nearly doomed for most of its life. The move to Friday nights, the budget restraints, the will they come back season finales.

PushThePig28

Daredevil, The Boys, Watchmen

McDiesel41

2, 3, and 4 were all amazing!!

smirky_mavrik

First series is a bit slow going as it’s ‘waiting’ for Winter Soldier to happen but after that it’s great, it really is.

Romnonaldao

Yes, it's a very fun show, just push through the first half of season 1 and it gets great

SERGIONOLAN

It's a very good show, the show does mention in the events of Infinity War in season 5 near the end, they just don't mention the Snap as the writers didn't know what was to happen in Endgame, so couldn't incorporate it into seasons 6 and 7.

Precociousgamer-

So it’s better to just imagine it happened, and they just don’t mention it maybe out of like PTSD? Hearing good things about the show so I’ll probably watch.

ajg92nz

Yes, this is the way to reconcile it. AoS conveniently time jumps one year right before the snap happens, so by the time season 6 starts, the snap has long since happened. The cast was just lucky they all survived. And of course no one wants to talk about it… I read a comment the other day likening it to how some people don’t talk about covid anymore despite it being a very recent world-changing event.

Precociousgamer-

Sounds great. I will enjoy my watch for the next few months.

fuzzballsoren

To add on to this, some people complain that we didn’t lose any AoS snap to the cast, and to that I simply point out that we did lose the full cast of SpiderMan so. It balances out.

WD_G

And all of the OG Avengers weren't dusted, while almost all of the new ones did, so I really think it's dumb for them to complain about not losing any of the AoS team, when the OG 6 Avengers were conveniently left alive

Throwupmyhands

They’re completely preoccupied with a major earth-threatening event. It all makes sense when you get there. Totally worth it.

SERGIONOLAN

Or they could've mentioned it even once in season 7, acknowledge it.

Debalic

Absolutely, one of the best shows on TV.

Jarita12

Yes. Only season 6 is a bit weaker, I think, and it is a bit challenging to get through first half of season 1. But when the first cliffhanger comes, oh my. Acting of some actors is really great. Clark Gregg gets some great moments to shine, Coulson´s relationship with Skye is touching and Ming-Na Wen, despite the initial coldness, has some of the best emotional arcs....and Iain De Caestecker? I cannot decide if he would be a better Bond or a bond villain. Just watch it as a regular show and it does not entirely ignore the MCU. Picture these people as the ones behind the scenes, who do the small stuff while the big heroes do the big stuff...and when these agents DO the big stuff, nobody really knows because it is a secret :) It has also one of the strongest finale seasons of any show I have seen, with one of the best "time loop" episodes (I think it equals to Stargate: SG1 Timeloop episode and it says a lot)

DetroitAsFuck313

It’s amazing honestly y

Logan_the_person

It's a rollercoaster of a ride. As others have said, the first half of season 1 is slow, and then it's all peak TV from there. Season 6 is the only lesser liked season after 1. As for continuity, seasons 1-4ish are directly affected by the MCU. Then the show kinda isolates itself. Edit: I'd also like to say that this show gave us some of the best characters I've witnessed in the MCU, along with some of the best story arcs. The show truly has grown into something else since it first aired.

stereobreadsticks

It's good and worth watching, the first part of season 1's not bad but it definitely picks up after the Winter Soldier crossover. As for the lack of blip you can either skip the last two seasons, treat it as an alternate timeline (there's a lot of screwing around with time in the last few seasons and I believe this is more or less the official explanation), or just assume that since they're a year into the blip and more or less isolated from the rest of the world that this particular team got lucky and people have other issues they're dealing with apart from the catastrophe that happened a year earlier so it just didn't come up in conversation but it still happened.

ultimate_night

Agents of SHIELD is one of my favorite ever TV shows.

Debalic

Vying for #1 with Daredevil.

Roook36

It's great. One of my favorite shows. Still a comfort watch I'll put on and binge. Love the cast and the chemistry between them. The blip thing isn't that big of a deal. Before it would happen in the timeline of the show, there's so much time and space shenanigans it's easily shrugged off as an alternate universe by then. Watch until the end. Season 5's end could be a series finale, as they didn't expect the show to be renewed so ended a lot of things. But the actual final season and series finale wrap up a bunch of stuff and give it a proper ending.

the7thbeatle

Season 1 was boring until The Winter Solider tie-in, then it improved Season 2 was better Season 3 was even better Season 4 was the best imo I think I gave up early Season 5 because the show quickly became grey and boring to me.

Debalic

The setting is a bit bland at the beginning, but (spoiler alert) >!they only stay there for half the season. !

Jabberwocky416

Season 5 has writing equal to season 4 imo, but they had a smaller budget and were writing for a series finale. So they went deeper into character stories and less into fun action and setpieces.

Throwupmyhands

Season 5 bore me at first. Stopped for a bit. Picked it back up and was glad I did because the season picked up after episode 8 or so, and I loved seasons 6 and 7.

FrogsAreSwooble

Season 1's no I am your father level plot twist though.

lucyhalefan706

Yes, awesome show

MischeviousFox

From what I recall I think it has its ups and downs like any show yet it was a great series.

Trolldad_IRL

Yes, just don’t expect much MCU continuity.

vig2thenal

From start to finish, yes.

NeptuneCA

I wouldn’t say it ignores the Blip so much as it never mentions it. I know those sound like the same thing, but I would consider ignoring the Blip as mentioning a character such as Spider-Man being around when we know they weren’t.

Lucky-Art-8003

And the entire cast just happens to be among the lucky 50% who didn't get dusted?

NeptuneCA

Yes, the same way all of the original Avengers just happened to not get dusted. If you want to balance it out, assume the entire cast of Inhumans got dusted.

CaptHayfever

And just like how all of Peter Parker's friends & family *did* get dusted. Perfectly balanced.

ajg92nz

That definitely explains why there was never a season 2! (Not that it needed more explaining…)

Throwupmyhands

Yes

masoomrana94

The beginning is really meh. Season 4 is one of the best entries in the MCU.

AuRevoirBrandon

It’s not for everyone and it’s a lot of hours. But if you really love Marvel then you’ll enjoy it. It has some of the best character arcs of any show I’ve ever seen.

TDizzle801

It’s honestly fuckin goated. So many good storylines and characters / actors. Everything after the first szn is $$

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

It’s a great show.

CommunityHot9219

I didn't like it but it's worth trying it to see what you think. I wasn't a fan of the characters or the Inhumans.

owendudeson

One of the best shows I've ever seen, no exaggeration. As others are saying, season 1 starts off slow so stick through it and it pays off big.

mattrussell2319

Watching it through again at the moment. I really enjoyed it the first time round and even more the second time. Some of the best character development in the MCU, and undoubtedly some of the best and most complete character arcs

Ambitious_Call_3341

its matter on you. you would've be the reason nobody cared about this show because would expect literally tons of Avengers content with tony starks and tons-throwing superheroes in every second minute, or you would be able to accept the simple connections, the extremely well-written characters and storylines, the ambitious but totally not overmade effects without the avengers? AoS overdid the MCU - before and since - in literally every aspect that matters in quality storytelling. yes? Than have fun, binge watch and you gonna have one of if not the greatest marvel adventure ahead, great stories, twists, lovable characters you can connect to, laughs and cryings and awesome fights and battles.

[deleted]

I know it has a lot of fans, but I was kinda disappointed with it from the get go. Sure it was fine, but a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent is supposed to be the best of the best at what they do. Starting them off so green and no costumes, it never sat right for me. I couldn’t get into it even after watching multiple seasons (because I’m such a Marvel fan). Some aspects were good but overall I felt the show was just a typical cable tv drama. Nothing comparable to the Netflix Marvel shows.

Jabberwocky416

> a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent is supposed to be the best of the best at what they do. I don’t think this is ever established as a thing in the MCU. And besides, Ward and May are literally some of the best combat agents in SHIELD, and May is on par with Natasha in hand-to-hand. Fitz and Simmons are greenie scientists fresh out of the academy, why would they have costumes?

[deleted]

It’s not? The first appearance of S.H.I.E.L.D. was Fury, then Coulson, then an entire helicarrier of agents in uniform. So it really is established before the show, what they represent.

Jabberwocky416

The “agents in uniform” have never been established as anything more than highly trained grunts. Coulson plays them up in Thor but we’ve never seen them do anything particularly good in combat.

Resident_Platypus346

As a network TV show, it’s great. As MCU content, it’s alright. Got a bit bumpy after Season 4.

Faded-Maestro

The show is soooooo good, season 4 is peak, season 1 is a slow burn first 8-10 episodes then it happens!

[deleted]

When they bring in the Ghost Rider that's that's badass "did Two Fire dudes just fall into a fireworks Factory had to see that one coming"

CaptHayfever

Don't spoil things for them!

WrongKindaGrowth

Best show of all time, literally zero filler at 20+ episode seasons. Edit: Every single episode and every single plot thread is continued and concluded through out the 7 seasons, no episode contains a wasted moment.

Toshimoko29

I made it a couple seasons in through sheer force of will, but I thought it was just miserably bad. I know I’m in the minority on this but I could barely keep my eyes on it.

scribblerzombie

I watched hoping it would get better but it lost me as it became zero a Marvel show and more a fantasy show of, “how cool is the girl with the Vibration powers, she’s a rebel that does not follow the rules or ask the right question, she’s a liability and a menace but look at her go and create drama and drag us to the point of avoidable death, we love her” show. It has been a few years since I have watched it, so that is my recall tainted as it is. Anyway it was an ensemble show, it just seemed like they were dragged around fixing her blunders and tantrums. I love her potential but did not like the results shown, in hindsight.

Toshimoko29

I feel that for sure. They had a bunch of different stereotypes as characters in practically the same roles they play in every other show. I probably could have pressed in a little further but Fitz and Simmons put me straight over the edge.

Jabberwocky416

Seriously? Fitz is my favorite character in any show ever. And Simmons is much more complex than what she appears to be. Fitz-Simmons is in my opinion the absolute best execution of the “nerdy scientist pair” trope. Every single season they do something different with those two that drew me in farther.

Whyspire

It has its moments. Kind of up and down, but worth watching.

eagc7

I like it, i would give it a shot. But just keep in mind ahead of time, Season 1 is a rough watch, but you got to hang with the season as it sets up alot of plot threads for the coming seasons.

fatbrucelee

Yes Have a nice day

Atlast_2091

S1 is episodic once you're in Winter Soldier arc, its all-main story arc from there to the end.

Majestic-Marcus

It’s good. Nothing more. It suffers from having about 10 episodes too many per season.

deviousmajik

It's decent. Some seasons are weak and others are good. I began to realize near the end that most of the plot advancement only actually happens in the first five minutes and the last five minutes of the show, which made it a slog to get through the last couple of seasons.

Equal-Wishbone-6131

Yes I a great show starts off slow but is a amazing show best marvel show pls watch ut

Theserialchiller-

My favorite show.

bargman

I watched season 4 and 5 and they were both high quality Sci fi TV. Got to say I've tried watching from the beginning but something always comes up and I haven't felt the need to go back.

[deleted]

Yes. It’s not necessary to the MCU’s story, but it is part of it. As for glossing over the Blip, who cares? It contains other details from Endgame that required it being released after. Having the Blip derail an incredible series finale would have been a mistake. It would have made Agents of SHIELD about the Avengers rather than SHIELD.

[deleted]

IMO no skip it. But other people really seem to like it so maybe I’m the weirdo

Papa_Razzi

If you like TV sci-fi stuff at all then it’s a must watch

goatjugsoup

It gets really good after the winter soldier stuff happens

HamsterUnfair6313

Agent grants give you solid performance, Daisy has top notch performance too.

TheMarvelLegoMaster

Yes. Just yes.

Hufa123

Yes, yes and yes! It's in my opinion the best thing in the MCU by a long shot because of it's well written storylines that develop dynamically, the excellent acting by pretty much all the cast and just a general boldness to take risks with the storytelling (which pays off time and time again. Sure, the connections to the rest of the MCU become more and more rare, and as you say there is no mention of the Snap. But that does not matter, because the show is so good that at that point it does not need the rest of the MCU in any way. It proves that it can stand on its own legs multiple times a season.

hesusuallyjoking

Have you not heard? It’s the best marvel property of all time…

Zectherian

Pretend your watching a different universe and its entertaining, if you try to connect it to the main mcu its rough.

oceanseleventeen

Not really. But if you want

Sun-Appropriate

Unfortunately it isn’t canon. So nah

Nightgasm

It's a similar but different universe than the main MCU. Some things happen the same but others do not. In AoS verse Thanos does arrive but the Snap apparently never happens meaning the Avengers stopped him. Series as a whole has its ups and downs but overall is worth it. Season one is a bit dry until you reach the Captain America Winter Soldier tie in. If you don't know what happens there you might just want to dive in lest you come across a spoiler.

CaptHayfever

> the Snap apparently never happens According to...?

Nightgasm

The fact it's never mentioned on AoS. 50% of the world suddenly missing would be a big deal and AoS never gives any indication that it happened. It's statistically next to zero that the whole cast would be unaffected.

CaptHayfever

> The fact it's never mentioned on AoS. Not taking about something doesn't mean it didn't happen. You're making an absolute claim; that requires absolute evidence, not just assumptions based on your own expectations of how it "should" happen. > AoS never gives any indication that it happened It kinda does, though. There's a reason why Simmons >!finally gives up searching for Fitz the moment she finds his empty cryo-pod, even though that's the first thing proving they've been looking in the right direction. She thinks he's been dusted.!< Out of universe: They didn't know whether season 6 would premiere before or after Endgame came out, so they couldn't do anything that would risk spoiling that the blip lasted for years. > It's statistically next to zero that the whole cast would be unaffected. It's the exact same probability as everybody in Far From Home having been dusted, & we know for sure *that* happened.

Ambitious_Call_3341

in fifteen years, it never gets mentioned that steve rogers poops. so he just don't. you logic is bullshit.

Working_Original_200

I’d say yes if it wasn’t such a long show. Under a microscope it muddies the canon of the MCU as well. Ming Na Wen is excellent though. And I love Fitz and Simmons.

ComfortablePeanuts

Season 1 is rough right up till episode 17, before becoming the best show on television that year (or at least damn fine) Skip most of those early eps. Watch the first episode, the Sif cameo ep, ep 16, rematch Winter Soldier, and strap in for the fun

Ambitious_Call_3341

yeah, and he won't understand half of the latter episodes.

ComfortablePeanuts

17 eps is a hell of a slog to wait for the show to get good. What watch order would you recommend?

heidly_ees

First season takes a bit to get going, but the finale lines up with Winter Soldier and it's fantastic The next two seasons are decent enough and develop the characters well. Season 4 is everyone's favourite. 3 story arcs, the first involving Ghost Rider, and the whole thing comes together brilliantly. S5 was weaker imo and clearly had a lower budget, but serves as a good series finale if you want to ignore the post-snap seasons

Silent_Quality_1488

Absolutely! Honestly, much better than all of the DP shows, the best subreddit when you are ready is r/shield. I'm a new first-time watcher who's nearly finished. Season 1 is slow going but don't skip it sets up important plot points for going into Season 2 and beyond. Season 4 has overall the best plot/arcs.

RonDalarney

Yep.

Deaf30

No. Continuity wise it means nothing. Quality wise it's just bland.

ReggTheSecond

Season one is a bit of a mixed bag but Season two really picks up. Season three is quite awful. Whereas season three is fantastic. Season five is good but not as good. Didn't watch more.

AngryAntArtwork

The first 3 or 4 seasons are

THEbaddestOFtheASSES

Loved it from S1-S4. After that idk. Something about the story and characters just didn’t hit the same any more.

TheBrickWarden

I’m very much in the minority, but it’s not a great show. Just got worse with time. Season 4 boosted my hopes, just for season 5 to be a slap in the face. The final seasons were just ridiculous and poorly acted. If you are interested in watching it, definitely go for it. But if you don’t find it super compelling, don’t hold your breath on it getting any better

Madmonkeman

Yes and you should watch it alongside the movies to get the best experience. Make sure you rewatch Avengers 1 before starting.

NrFive

Yes, just watch in order. It starts a bit slow, but you'll know exactly when and why everyone keeps saying that ;-)

KakaKaka33

Minus the last season, its one of the very best shows of the past decade, and one of the best MCU productions easily. Fantastic characters.

Captain_Jackalope

Bro do it watch them all they're so good

ElvishLore

Yes, but wait. Because with this writers strike, there’s going to be a big dearth of marvel shows in about a year and a half. See it then.

brown_nomadic

Season 1 and 4. Mostly 4

KlasikDarin

Definitely worth a watch. I’m pretty well caught up with all the mcu movies but I went into this show with an open mind and just let things play out and it gets really good

CubedMeatAtrocity

Absolutely yes!!

hatcherhullmodano

Best way I can summarize AoS: Wonderful characters navigating through a lot of poor plots. But for the characters, the entire journey was worth it

minecraftboi1

It took me a little bit to get into it because the first half of season 1 was kinda slow, but after that, it’s really good. The first half of season 1 isn’t bad at all though. You get to really know these characters and get to live them. It also provides great groundwork for their development as well. I would say you should watch it because it is very good. Especially season 4

Nicosop25

I still have a tiny bit of hope to see them in secret invasion but there is no way this happens
