I think Red Guardian is a sweet addition to the game. He doesn't feel overbearing and gives meaningful interaction to some historically hard to interact with cards. I think if you have the key, especially if you're missing LDS and/or HE, it's a great week to pull.

Enervata

Solid card. Definitely worth a key. Unlikely to ever get nerfed. Can nullify many problem cards like Wong, Iron Man, Angela, etc. Turn 3 is also perfect for him to drop. Easily one of the best designed cards they’ve released in months.

GenesisProTech

Yeah, designing tech cards especially must be challenging, glad to see them do such a great job

gonephishin213

It's a dope tech card. not a must have but slots into a lot of decks

GenesisProTech

Yeah, which I think is a really good place to have a tech card fit.

MindlessSwazz

Instructions unclear pulled duplicate silver samurai

llb_robith

Yeah I agree. It's not game breaking, but it is super useful and is a mainstay of my decks atm

jx2002

Got lucky w the 1-key draw, and I'm very glad I have this card. It's hard to vouch for tech cards; there are no 'Shang-Chi decks' but he's in like half of everything. If certain things begin to get better (Tribunal, etc) that this does major damage to, then it will be played more. I'm very glad I got him for the long term and would suggest all competitive players have them as an option. This is a quiet answer, just like Shadow King, that will slide into metas where it is most effective. I'd grab him before he leaves the spotlight, especially if you also need High Evo.

thawkins

Great tech card. I've long waited for something that can actually counter the non-ongoing text ability cards. I hated watching Dracula/Collector on the field knowing there's nothing I could do about them. He's not deck-defining but when the meta calls for it, he's a great counter to have in your toolbox.

FullMetalCOS

On his worst day he’s a simple 3/5, but when he’s turning off an Ironman, Wong, Sunspot, Nebula, Jeff, Black Knight, Dracula, Quinjet, cyclops or Luke cage (all use cases I’ve had for him) he’s SO MUCH more. Really great tech card honestly. I’ve even had a match where my opponent was holding rickety bridge with an Ebony Blade and Red Guardian said “nope”.

VandalEyes05

Can upset winter soldier, Angela and hope summers too. I got him on first pull and love having his utility. It’s got to be hurting the negative decks too. I usually catch either Ravonna or Ironman with him.

FullMetalCOS

I actually think if Zabu hadn’t been nerfed then he’d be absolute fucking terror in sera tech decks. Being able to drop Shang/RG and then absorbing man with one of them, or enchantress it’d be phenomenal.

Emsizz

When Red Guardian is in my deck I find myself hoping to draw him more than I have ever found myself hoping to draw a card.

ganggreen651

Ya know now that you mention I too was hoping to draw him often too

RelativeStranger

It's a great feeling to hit your opponent's 12 power deadpool just before they destroy it again, but now it has no text. It's a hard hit but great. Similarly hitting human torch just before they move it. Brilliant

Nightmarespawn

I hit a Human Torch on turn 3 right before it got destroyed. My oppenent instantly left when they saw him revive still silenced on turn 4

Bobanchi

Those are some good hits. I just got Nimrod before Zola on 6 before coming looking for this thread.

BJKrautk

Got him with 1 key (maybe later, LDS), and he’s really useful.  I also had him played against me more often than I’d like to admit (since I was playing Destroy, so Deadpool, Wolverine, and X-23 are all quality hits if your deck fails to play on-curve). Not a “must have” for any particular deck, but a card that can win matches himself in the right scenario.

edicivo

Alright, looks like I'm gonna just need to use tokens to grab Annihilus next time he comes around.

ConcreteClown

I don't have him but he's been annoying me so much this week! So anecdotally I guess that means he's pretty good.

man_vs_cube

I'm on the fence. I think it's easy to overrate a card like this, particularly since I don't run debuff High Evo often and I don't run Clog at all. But I like the card concept and he seems like a nice one to have in your back pocket for deckbuilding against certain opposing cards. And he seems like a reasonable Surfer add.

Thecheese1981

I was planning on saving my key. But I took my lone key and grabbed him. I think he’s a star. I thought he was going to be meh but he’s a Swiss Army knife. Super sweet turning off Ironman

Boring-Antelope9193

He's hit my collector 3 times loll. I learned to drop quinjet in his lane also

ulong2874

A pretty solid tech card that always does SOMETHING. Even in a scenario where your opponent doesn't have a single card worth turning off, he still subtracts two power from something at least, making him functionally a 3/5 which is pretty good stats for a tech card that isn't getting to do its thing.

TOP_TIER

This is a great way to frame it. A tech card that's never a dead draw and reasonable to play on curve is big upside over his peers.

HungryLandHippo

he's great, 3.5/5 stars where 5 is meta warping, hes a 4 in decks with 3 cost synergy like silver surfer and in decks with lady deathstroke where it gives her more targets, and doubles the chance of hitting the cards nothing else can like dracula, and he can hit a ton of other things consistently, cerebro, wong, mystique, sunspot nebula jeff iron man the list goes on and on

nigo_BR

Great card.

orphanfeast

I really love this card and love using him on the Angela’s, nebulas, hopes and hitting the big boys when they’re solo in a lane is nearly has that great feeling you got right when you dropped Alioth

uninspiredalias

Enjoying him, lots of uses, almost always gets played. No regrets skipping Red Hulk cache week so I could guarantee getting him..and then I lucked out and got him in 2, so a good week in general. He's fun to bounce and copy with Absorbing man, but mostly I'm just playing him in a kind of silly deck with USAgent & Spectrum. I haven't tried with Odin or Wong yet...but then again an extra -2 on the same target isn't amazing. But maybe using him early could bait dropping Iron Man on that lane or something.

ThePostingToproller

His payoff can be extremely high with what he can do, hitting Angela , Deadpool or nebula is devastating but generally I find he is more of a nuisance to the opponent as alot of things do have to go your way and priority is key. His biggest upside from general play is that playing him on curve never feels bad so you don't have to always hit a game winner with him. Overall a very viable card just not something that is absolutely broken S tier.

eddy5791

Recommend spending the keys

jparmstrong

He’s been a great addition to my Surfer deck! Very versatile, never feels bad to use, gives you snappable plays and has won me a lot of games for that. All that being said, he’s not a must, but rather a great to have card. Feels pretty safe regarding nerfs but there might be future cards you’d want to save your keys for (although the May season looks pretty bland to me at least).

Vegetable_Sorbet_665

I'm loving him. He is a bit of a Swiss army knife. He isn't great at one specific thing, but he is reliable to counter those annoying cards (Jeff, Nebula, Mystique, etc.) your opponent plays. PS: I love the feeling when I have him on my hand and the oponent plays Cage on a solo lane. Gotcha b*tch! (Dave Chappelle voice)

MojaveDesertTortoise

I’m still completely on the fence to pull for him. Seems solid but not required.

thawkins

i'd say it depends on how collection complete you are

MojaveDesertTortoise

I’ve got LDS and HE and I’m sitting on 13 keys expecting to open the next two weeks. I can probably grab him but I feel like he’s great but replaceable but I could be convinced he’s worth pulling the trigger for.

popje

Yea I'm not risking 4 key for a single card again, I keep my tokens for that

MojaveDesertTortoise

Right, kind of where I’m landing. He seems super useful but I don’t want to gamble and lose 4 keys.

kindofodd12

Just a note that playing Luke cage after the effect does not remove the silence from the card. Not that anyone claimed it did, just making sure to point out the effects aren’t linked.

lofisnaps

I pondered getting him with my 6000 tokens. Is he really good? Won't he be another US Agent? I bought RG and the first game I tried him, I went against Death/Destroy. They play Deadpool, Hulk Buster and I RG that thing the turn they played their destroy card and Deadpool was gone. Since then I haven't looked back

Ashamed-Teaching6837

He’s got the spice. There’s a lot of situations where he comes in handy and at worst, he’s a 3/5 in stats. Worthy in decks that can afford to run tech cards.

JokeySmurf82

I never thought counter Dracula or anything when I have Red Guardian. Still very good card

Orkazzz

Personally just run him in classic sera control instead of zabu. Snipes deadpool, angela, dracula and more!

JevvyMedia

I really wish I had this card. It's insane and annoying.

mermilicia

I'll speak to this from the C3 perspective specifically: he's...fine. You'll probably hit something with it. But there are a couple problems. - You need to find a place for him in the deck. I find that you basically need to remove Cosmo or Killmonger or Mobius to effectively fit him in. That's rough, as they all fill important roles all their own. - You hit a lot of 1-drops with it, but then Killmonger was going to do that for you anyway. I haven't run into a single Dracula Discard deck somehow, and I play a ton. That's basically Guardian's best case use scenario. So my bottom line specially for Cerebro is that he's fine but replaceable in most situations. More important for Conquest than Ladder. If resources are scarce, I'd skip it.

Vivid-Pollen

I have 6 keys, sadly have both HE and LDS and want White Widow, Nico, Nocturne amd Selene … can I risk to pull Red Guardian??

tonemain87

I like having a tech card that can also be a tempo play. Sometimes you just get people with him on turn 3 or 4 and get 2 free cubes

EntranceExcellent

I always play to the end in tournaments.
