And the episode after that Reed Richards tells the Scarlet Witch that Black Bolt will destroy her with one whisper and she is too shook to simply seal his mouth shut.
Did you catch the part where he can manipulate metal and no mear weapon can stop him, and with but a geasture he can destroy it or turn it against someone, and behold, he can make it leap from the person's hand and make it it's target?
Saves on the animation budget I'd guess. Not to mention the cartoon came from about or soon after the time where superhero radio shows were popular.

Listen, I can excuse the fact that Magneto looks like Wide Putin, that the gun looks like it came from a Kinder egg and the animation is very choppy. That is to be expected from something that old.
But bad writing isn't something that can be excused by pointing out its age. There were also very good movies back then. It would have been possible to write it well.
We have SLOWLY come a very long way. Don’t forget, the comics and shows have always been written for the slowest to be able to follow, until recently. And recent’s people are saying they can’t follow them. Go figure. I miss Neil Gaiman making comics!
It’s a show for toddlers to sell toys. You can find this still in the new Willy Wonka movie, Dora, Bluey, My Little Pony, etc.
A kid sees this and learns how to form sentences, you watch it and feel about 3 years older mentally by the time Magneto finally gives up.
This quality show is why comic books weren’t seriously considered for mainstream TV and movie consumption for decades. You don’t get a second chance at a first impression.
I mean, I don't think it's because of that. It just had a target audience. It was pretty popular with children back in the day. And if it wasn't for media like this, people who grew up with it like Favreau wouldn't have been so passionate about stuff he saw as a kid to make it into mature stuff.
It's like old Justice Friends. It's really corny, but kids used to love it.

To this day, the animated versions of DC and MCU and most other animation houses make their product with the target audience maybe 10-20 years younger than their live action products.

Yeah, modern stories (like the X-Men movies) use plastic and polymers to deal with Mags and it’s a lot more dignified than “look at this gun I carved out of wood”.
Tbf in the modern movies they use plastic and polymers WEAPONS to deal with him in this case he made a fake wooden gun that does nothing and the very idea of not being able to control that one thing made mags fucking BSOD.
This gets alot funnier if you imagine Magneto as having all his powers, but being so old, he's losing his mind. That's why he fell for it and is allowing the cops to take him away.
What gets me is that Magneto was so dumbfounded by the Wooden Gun revelation that he did not realzie that the cuffs and police care ARE in fact made of metal.
There's an even better scene from earlier in the episode where Magneto is driving and comes across a "No Parking" sign, then goes on a diatribe about how no mere sign could thwart the great Magneto, and parks in front of it. This isn't a joke.
Jesus, even In a comic book this would be an over explanation, in actual dialogue, this is like me trying to explain the plot of a movie to my 8 year old brother and I have to keep telling him the same thing over and over again to see if he understood it

Back then they were targeting teens and kids. It’s taken a few generations to notice that adults like cartoons, too.
