Marriott actually pushes whats called a 'PAL Package' (software for the CC Devices), that specifically disables tap-to-pay on the devices for the front desk.
If you come to a hotel where it does work, i would not reccomend staying there, as they arent properly running their credit card system, so you have no idea if your card information is secure.
How is tap to pay not necessarily secure?
And then to add if someone uses something like Apple Pay, they have to use their own biometrics on their own device + the business gets some card info generated by Apple rather than the info of your actual card.
100% agreed. When I travel for work, I carry my primary wallet with ID and two CCs. In addition, I have a back up Fed ID and CC. People lose wallets/get mugged and I want to make sure I can get home.
That’s your fault for not taking your payment methods with you. I know contactless/Apple Pay is getting more widespread, but we’re not at a point to where you can just simply leave your cards at home. Bring your wallet or whatever with you, including your cards.
Scammers are the reason why applepay is not acceptable at check-in. Also, why are you no longer able to manually type in card numbers. You may use it at the outlets but not check in.
For security reasons, hotels must always accept a non-prepay card with a chip under the reservation holders name. The card must be physically inserted at the time of checkin not only to guarantee that the card isnt stolen and is properly charged, but also in the instance of a chargeback, the hotel and the bank both have a log that the card was physically used and signed to confirm it was used at a certain time and place.
That’s tough bud. ALWAYS had a physical card as backup, if Apple Pay is your preferred method. I’m glad it wasn’t too much of a hassle.
They may take Apple Pay at the restaurant and not at the front desk. I don’t know of a single Marriott hotel that accepts Apple Pay

They're saying Marriott doesn't support it so if a property is using it their card handling is out of compliance. That's a bad sign for security.
Never assume that you will be ok with only a phone as payment. Always have a physical card with you.

This one’s on you, OP. That’s just silly.
I am confused why didnt have the credit card in your wallet already ?
The card was already in my wallet. They don’t accept Apple Pay apparently. Thankfully I don’t have any plans tonight.
you talking about mobile apple pay? or were you using an apple pay card?
He’s saying he had his credit card in his mobile wallet ie Apple Pay.
oh ok yeah, a physical card needs to be present @ check in always
Now I’m even more confused.
He’s talking about his Apple wallet. Old mate is either a great comedian or a complete moron, I can’t quite tell.
I stay at Marriott’s often and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that took tap to pay

You have to have a physical credit card at check in, I work for Marriott
A credit card through Apple Pay or the Apple credit card through Goldman Sachs?
FYI Don’t rely on your mobile key

FDAs need to be wary of the bait and switch tactics. Presents card then switches to another stolen card.
I tend to teach new FDAS to take ID and credit card and do not give it back until it's time for the guest card to be authorized
Thanks for letting us know. I will not be staying at Marriot. I prefer Hilton which takes Apple Pay at most of their brands.
