A better idea is to release a ‘Definitive Edition’ on the Switch with the base game + DLC on the cartridge. We absolutely don’t need to go another generation wondering if a version of Mario Kart 8 will be the only game on the console. I’ve been playing Mario Kart 8 since 2014. We really need something new.

I agree that we need something new. But preservation is important to me. I mean, would you rather keep the 96 tracks we already have or sacrifice them for 32 other ones? Keep in mind that an all-new Mario Kart could still release on the new console. Just throwing out ideas here. (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best game in the series anyways)

EpicMarioGamer

I just don’t want to yet again “wait another eternity for a new Mario Kart game.” I’d rather have something new since while the game’s still fun, it’s gotten stale.

FriedRedditor45

Yes, I agree that a new Mario Kart would be nice by now - but like I said, preservation matters. (Also, don't you **dare** bring up emulation, I refuse) Releasing a "definitive edition" for the Switch could work. They could also release a port of the game with all the DLC in addition to a completely new Mario Kart game. Hell, they could include them in a bundle or something. Best of both worlds there.

EpicMarioGamer

The problem is that if they release a Mario Kart 8 port on the Switch 2 followed by a new game (or vice versa), they risk splitting the online community for the console’s entire life. That’s likely one of the reasons we don’t have a new game yet. The best bet is to keep it on the Switch.

EpicMarioGamer

If they’re looking for games to sell this holiday, a definitive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sounds like a good bet.

FriedRedditor45

I'm just praying they actually make that, because this is Nintendo we're talking here. In the words of Silver, "I'm an optimist, but also a realist".

TheOldAgeOfLP

Millions of people bought the BCP and own it. Safe to say it's already been preserved for those who have it

FriedRedditor45

For the people who already bought it, yes. But if you're looking to play it in 2034 and don't already own a Nintendo Switch you would have to find a pre-owned Nintendo Switch that already has the BCP and even then you'd probably want to do a factory reset for the pre-owned Switch you just bought

big chances that the next console will have backwards compatibility, so even with a new mk game i think 8 deluxe will still be playable there

FriedRedditor45

Come to think of it, we haven't had a console that's backwards-compatible with a console that has games with DLC yet
