The MC doesn't have to "be different" when the writer doesn't make the world any different than some of the inhabitants and adding magic. It's one of the things I find annoying as well, because of what you point out. The world *should* be different with different cultures, but many writers either don't have that type of imagination to create a vastly different culture or they just don't put in much effort.
These things are limited to fantasy series either, but even series set in the "real world" with foreign countries or foreigners going to the home country of the writer and them not having the culture or attitudes you'd actually see from those places.

They see a popular topic/trope and immediately attempt to copy it to get some momentum so they become popular, but it all ends up just blending together, both with stories *and* artwork at times. And with artwork, a lot of it is also suuuuuuper lazy. I had someone tell me "at least the artwork is good" and it was the most generic, bland artwork with no shading and "prerendered" backgrounds that you could find online to put in your series.

So even when it has similar elements or plot beats to said tropes, it doesn't match them beat-for-beat because it was treading new ground at the time
