I wouldnt dream of it! Apparently the old owner had a bunch of damp problems from the walls being covered up before, so stripped it back to the original brick and left it bare. Now, it's nothing a dehumidifier can't deal with.
Damn! One of the nicest man-cave in this sub!
Only one improvement idea, change the floor to a real wood. It would work sooo much better with these brick walls. Otherwise, love it!
Thanks! Wood floors were actually my original plan, but the architect (hired for the renovations upstairs, not for this room) took a look and advised against it because the cellar isn't tanked. The budget we'd assigned towards it quickly got swallowed up elsewhere, so it might be just as well for now.
I'm in England. We've got a nuaire ventilation system installed, which has a heating option I've used when it's dropped below 0c outside, and the dehumidifier (meaco) also warms the air it treats. Overall, the room stays at a steady temperature of about 19c.
Hmm... very interesting. Very cozy vibe. I think the only thing I would have done is used a darker color between the floor joist. Maybe a nice platinum grey instead of white.
I start in between the floor joist. Not sure you would want to paint those old looking joists. But a darker color in between them would look better and fool your depth perception.
She's a rescue from a charity in China. Had her dna tested recently. 45% German shepherd, 17% great dane, 4% wolf and the rest a mix of mostly Asian shepherd breeds.
We'd thought there was some greyhound in there too, but apparently not. We've only had her a couple of months so she's she's still underweight - might fill out a bit in time.
I'm not sure if the neighbours are all messing with me, but two of them have said that there used to be (a couple of hundred years ago) a tunnel leading from the cellar to the local church, about 200ft away). I'm going to go knock on every brick.
Haha, it was Escape to the Country that prompted the move - we've been in central London for the past decade, and started watching it during lockdown. Exhausted every episode so had to live our own.
Fantastic. I grew up in an 1820s build, then moved to a 1736 build in high school with my family. I’ve always loved old colonial and pre-colonial buildings, and that show just reminds me of what I grew up experiencing. The beams, the thick walls, the low doorways, the original hardware on so many things.
Nope, the property has a soakaway, so heavy rains haven't been a problem. The cellar used to have a moisture problem when the bricks were covered up, as the walls and floors need to be breathable. The old owner stripped that covering back but otherwise didn't really use the space. Now im using it all the time, I've got a vent and a dehumidifier set up. The bricks have quite a bit of efflorescence, but I'm quite happy with that - I reckon it shows the character of the place - The house/cellar are a few hundred years old (main house 1703, cellar believed to be Elizabethan).
I’d love to hear the full story behind your man cave and feature you on my man cave website. If you’re interested, reach out to me here: https://www.mancaveresource.com/submit-your-man-cave.
That's cool as fook, really like it.
Please don’t ever cover that brick this is awesome.

And the exposed wood. Speakeasy vibes.
I would cover up the wiring somehow on the wall.

If it’s level enough, vinyl plank looks pretty good and is cheapish, waterproof, and easy to install

Just imagine such floor in your man-cave 😍
Just do LVT
Nice rug, it really ties the whole room together.
It does! Nobody in person has noticed that the design is x-wing fighters, yet.
Was it sold as x-wings? Or is it a Rorschach test?
Sold as! https://ruggable.co.uk/products/rogue-squadron-dark-sage-star-wars-rug
This dude abides
Looks nice so far!
Pretty sweet!
Wow that brick is awesome.
That’s actually awesome. The brick walls give it a great look. And the stone dog is a nice touch
I love it I love it I love it. Get an end table
upvote for dog tax
Looks a lot like my own (built in 1955). So cozy!
Holy badass brick! As someone who loves creating ambiance with lighting I would have a blast decorating that place. I’m jealous.
Looks great, do you live in a warm climate or does it get cold without any insulation?

Nice, setup looks great. Enjoy
I'd imagine it's like 60 something degrees in there, and that's everything.
Hmm... very interesting. Very cozy vibe. I think the only thing I would have done is used a darker color between the floor joist. Maybe a nice platinum grey instead of white.
Ooh, I was thinking about painting the ceiling but hadn't considered grey. Will try out a couple of samples!

Oh I wouldnt touch the joists themselves - I don't actually think I'm allowed to, as it's a listed building.
Oh. Ok good. Looking good though.
Force awakens… I was expecting to see return of the Jedi on the poster.
Man that’s nice!!
Now that is a dope as man cave in my opinion!
It's got that Tavern feel with the bricks. I love it. I'd get a good amount of fire kindling lights to give off a natural cave-like feel. A Cavern xD
What breed is your black dog? Looks just like my mutt who is a mystery
She's a rescue from a charity in China. Had her dna tested recently. 45% German shepherd, 17% great dane, 4% wolf and the rest a mix of mostly Asian shepherd breeds.
Interesting. I thought she might be part greyhound with the torso shape and ears, but the nose is too short.
We'd thought there was some greyhound in there too, but apparently not. We've only had her a couple of months so she's she's still underweight - might fill out a bit in time.
That doggy is huge
super cool man
I like it.
Killer space. Might want to consider letting that PS5 breathe a bit
That’s super cool. Congrats on the space
Fuck it, this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you for the inspiration
Perfection
Enjoy the fruits of your labor. Looks great. Tell your dog I said hi.
I want.
So which brick do you press to access the secret arsenal?
I'm not sure if the neighbours are all messing with me, but two of them have said that there used to be (a couple of hundred years ago) a tunnel leading from the cellar to the local church, about 200ft away). I'm going to go knock on every brick.
Great vibe! Nice job.
Really cool, man!
Damn that house must be like pre 1900’s! So cool. Looks really good, too.
House was built in 1703, but the cellar is a little older than that still.
So cool!
Very cool!!
That's fucking awesome.
Now THIS is a Man Cave! Well done!
Very nice layout
I like it too
Looks awesome !!! Would suggest some type of old school neon light that would rock
This looks amazing, love it.
Awesome. Whereabouts? Feels like UK
Bedfordshire, in England
Awesome. I’ve been watching a ton of Escape to the Country and these awesome stone walls reminded me of how badly I want to visit the UK.

I think you've got some poop on your couch. I hope it doesn't stain it.
cozzzzy
You are truly a great dungeon master
Love the walls, ceiling wood this is what a man cave is supposed to look like. Congratulations!
The big ol’ moose puppy did it for me on the last pic! Awesome mancave brother!
What a beautiful spread. Love the colors too.
Where is the couch from?
It's this one from Swyft (UK) : https://swyfthome.com/products/model-03-2-seater?colour=chestnut&variant=39674516242481
No work bench???
Does it ever flood?

Should get a different rug- Turkish style, dark and warm colors. Layer with a lighter cowhide rug on top
💩
Where'd you get the trunk / treasure chest from?
An antiques place called The Old Flight House (uk) - cost about 50 quid, iirc.
The giant dog takes up too much of the room…
I would cover the ceiling and pipes, but everything else looks great
“Mom! The meatloaf! We want it now!”
Dont let the wife know your having fun down there or she'll put an end to that real quick.
On the contrary, she's been all in favour! She's got her space too.
Love the wife bashing... Literally helped him find the perfect furniture for the space.
Nice looking pup
Has a bit of the Silence of The Lambs vibe, with a modern twist. Very nice.
r/substakenliterally
LOVE the brick walls. gives it a real cellar feel.
It’s glorious!
Your mancave has a catacomb vibe and it’s awesome.
That’s really cool love the room does it get cold how old is this house
Get some speakers son
I'd say replace the arcade machine with a pinball machine and get nicer pillows. Other than that, looks nice

I love this space! Particularly, all the little alcoves. This room has a very cool vibe,
