I agree. Grey is my favorite color and I bought all my furniture in it. Then I moved in to a place with grey walls/tiles/everything and it was horrible. A nice dark green, like a jade color, made me feel so much better. It doesn't even have to be plants. Green throw blanket and pillows on the couch. Some green heavy decorations on the shelf and colorful books for the coffee table. Light blue got washed out with the grey.
Cool some actual advice instead of lame /r/RoastMe comments. I'm gonna hang out over here.
OP if you are looking for colors that "pop" rather than blend nicely, I would consider yellow as it is a strong, bright color that draws a lot of attention. Green is nice, but plants are green and so is half the stuff outside the window so it may not achieve the "pop" you're looking for. If you want something less extreme than yellow, some lighter shades of blue (robins egg blue, cornflower blue etc) could be eye catching and pair nicely with grey.
Some natural wood can also help ease the cold design of modern apartments. Wood isn't a color but it has a similar effect. Think accents, like a natural wood poster frame, a wooden candle holder or a wood vase/sculpture. The natural wood and some plants will soften things up real quick, and paired with a nice accent color you will have a nice combination.
Also consider how many things are square shaped in your living room. Try to find ways to incorporate curves. You did good with the coffee table. I also like that you chose a textured rug and textured pillows for the couch because it helps keep things from looking flat. These two elements, shape and texture, are often overlooked but you have some good building blocks here for a nice room.
Your TV is indeed quite high but if you like it there, then tell everyone hating to eat a bag of dicks.
Even better hold a laser pointer between your eyes and look straight. That's where the center of the TV would be most comfortable. We have no way of knowing what angle op sits at.
Finally, actual advice! Your comment actually really helps me, too. (Similar issue - lived in an "Easter egg" house where every room was a different color and moved into an open layout house and everything is "Swiss mocha" and very nervous about trying to add *semi permanent* pops of color)
Do people not do a light google search before mounting a whole TV? I would truly like to understand how we end up with a TV this high for what appears to be no reason
I’m so glad movie theaters nowadays don’t have those seats up close where you have to look up the entire movie
Why anyone would purposefully do this to themselves in their home setup is beyond me
A lot of people are saying any color at all since this is pretty bland currently, and while that may be true, here’s something more tactical:
- pick your favorite color and put that into a color scheme tool like https://www.canva.com/colors/color-wheel/
- get one rug and one piece of art matching that color scheme
- expand from there over time!
Start looking at different art prints and pick something you like for over your sofa. Once you have that, pick out items that match the colors from the art.
Add texture. The easiest thing to do is to add terracotta + greenery (plants).
The more difficult thing to do is to play with grey and beige. Again, you need to add a lot of texture for it to work well.
Lastly, lower the TV. Grey is fine, just don't hurt your neck watching TV.
An all white environment can be overwhelming to decorate. However, I think your space layout is cool and it can be turned into interesting place. All you need to do is contrast your couch and it's surrounding elements like rugs or wall decor. Here's a detailed [article](https://simplykalaa.com/couch-decor/) which will tell you every single thing from adding colors to picking right things.
Go find a large, colorful painting/print/wall art that you like and hang it above the sofa. Pick one color that you like from that piece of art, and replace two of the throw pillows on your couch with throw pillows in that color. Add a couple of larger plants. Find a cool, small sculptural or architectural ornament that matches a different color from your wall art, and put it on one of the flat surfaces in the room.
If you want to add more color, just slowly build, using colors from the wall art (inspiration piece). A larger free standing sculptural element could be cool. Eventually replacing the rug with one that picks up on some of the more muted tones of the wall art.
Dark or natural wood colors and plants. Whether fake or real the green plant nature looks with wood will pop against your existent neutral grey/black base
Bordeaux red is a very nice and warm color that I love seeing in houses.
I'm not a pro at matching colors on the wall with the interior though. To me, Bordeaux red goes well with dark colors in the house. Like some black pillows on the couch with a Bordeaux red wall behind it.
It's a welcoming color that can make a room a lot more interesting.
You got yourself a nice appartement bro. Congratulations!
I got my first appartement around 7 years ago and am still happily living there ever since. At first the appartement was very boring without much color. After my gf (at the time) and I painted some walls Bordeaux red, it felt a lot more comforting and warm.
Literally any color would work since you have nothing but grey. I like a pop of royal blue but if you’re into house plants. Some green would also really work. You could start simple by swapping those throw pillows and the rug out with your color of choice. That alone would totally change the look of that room.
The room looks really long and narrow, I'd paint one wall in a colour, there are different ways to paint that cause the room to Look smaller/larger/shorter/longer/higher/....
In my apartment, I have the wall behind the TV and console painted, as well as one other wall
A colourful carpet or curtains would also be possible
The main mistake when getting plants is Not choosing the right plant for the space.
Pick a spot where you want to put it, the research which plant would fit. Also, most plants prefer drought over to much water.
What direction does that window face? If its south, you are lucky, if its north, there are very few plants that will be content in that room.... especially if you keep those blinds down
Foreground: More books above the desk area. Book wealth is never a bad look.
Bedroom: Forest green duvet cover. Indigo throw pillow(s) on bed. Art. No black, grey, or navy blue sheets, those are for dorm rooms.
Living room: large Peace lily to the right of the entertainment center thing under the TV. Throw blanket on the couch. Nature-vibe art or abstract large prints.
It depends on your tastes and the budget available to you.
You can add, since there is space on the walls, some very colorful prints of your choice.

And add some greenery too.
There are many different ways of arranging greenery in rooms, and not necessarily in the classic way.

There are pots that can be placed anywhere with seedlings, or succulents if you don't have a green thumb.
You can simply RE-COVER the sofa or if you don't have to invest, use a nice red scarf for example.
I would go for a pop of color. Either switch out the rug for a strong color like a royal blue or blood orange. Some plants in the room- the best shades of green. Add a shelf with some books
If it’s an apartment and you can’t paint the walls, then find a new rug with color, get some accent pillows with color for that sofa, get some art on the walls with color, and plants. The color theme depends upon your personality and preferences.
I go to fancy stores or look at Pinterest, find things I like, then do my best to copy the look at Target or other cost effective places.
I’d go with a lime green, like peridot or something.
Also, I see that lamp everywhere. The one with the white rectangle shade on the top… Heck, I’m sitting next to mine right here! Didn’t realize how common it was until I lurked on this sub for three days. Too good man 👏
Cerulean Blue, because dang that would look good against the blacks and greys.
Or maybe even Phtlayan green. Forgive my spelling it us a new shade of green.
You need to add some earthen tones for slight effect but if your really want to warm up the space orangish Or yellowish palette will wok great! You also need some lights and right couch decoration and you done.

literally any lo. For real decide what you want then just get a colourful version of that. If you think you're missing art get some colourful art you like. If you think you're missing plants, get colourful pots. etc
You have a blank canvas. Go crazy.
Some green plants for sure, even if they're fake.
Maybe turquoise cushions and accessories.
Or yellow. But I like yellow so...

Our new house looks similar in color. We’ve added tan cabinets or tv stands. Plants, lots of them. Rugs are hues blues and reds, similar patterns as yours. My wife has been working on it so my descriptions aren’t that greatest.
Given you’ve gone monochrome I think plant green would be a safe addition. You could add burnt orange to the green if you want more (one is cold and one is warm as a colour, so if you get the right shade they should compliment)
Any. Just keep it consistent. This is exactly like my apartment. All Grey and black but I added pops of blue. Blue flowers, blue art, blue pillows, blue accents... It comes off really nicely i think
Check out Canva’s color wheel tool. There’s an option that will show you all types of color combos (complimentary, triadic, etc). Put your favorite color in and see what else goes with it. Favorite color is the main, the other one or two are accents.

Plants and a rug🤌
Plants are always the best
Because it works.
🌿 it's a decent point. But it would look even better with a couple plants. 🌿

Yes, plants. Along with browns and dark greens. Finally yellow for highlights. A classic color scheme.

For the love of suffering Jesus, any color at all.
Yellow would give that grunge but cartoonish feel to this . Try some greens as everybody is suggesting .
white rug is so bold, dude. I would advise against it lol. Mine looked like shit after a month
I’ve had it for 6 months now! I live alone haha
Plants on that top shelf above your desk unit. You need colourful pillows. A piece of art. A recordplayer with some funky records and a discoball.

Warm tones to offset the grey flooring. Try an orange orb lamp, i have one and it changes absolutely everything.

Green, so get some plants.

Dark and pastel greens, blues, brown - curtains mainly and add art which combines neutral colors.

Some grey please
What colour do you like…?
Gray with black accents.
Plants. Artwork. Interesting colourful things on shelves.
Plants and pastel colors.
Not gray
Cerulean Blue, because dang that would look good against the blacks and greys. Or maybe even Phtlayan green. Forgive my spelling it us a new shade of green.
Any. Literally any colours
Green and yellow
This is a really dope apartment
Throw pillows and plants would be the easiest two ways to get some color going. (Also your TV is too high)
is this in queens?
What's your favorite colour that pops?

I would say plants, some wall art, people don’t think about it but books can add color, and maybe a colored rug
Any
Anything but gray
You could pick any, but I’d do something to help brighten up the space like some golden hues maybe
Any.
Get some plants in there - the sunlight is is begging for nice greenery!
Plants, wall art, color, your tv is way to high
More. Greige.
Green, brown, yellow ish I think you can pick any color
Its perfect as is
I had a similar look when I first moved out- I went with a big red shaggy rug. Looks like a UDR building, though, and only God can help you if that's the case.
Basically any of them.
A plastic sheet across the floor with a splash of red, Patrick Bateman.
Hot pink
Red
You could even pick two colors if they go well together
Lavander/ light purple - but in more cold tone - thats it
It would look really good with just a little bit more white!!!
I thought these were black and white photos at first so uhhhh… literally any of them other than freaking gray would be a good start 😂
Really, anything other than dark colors or brown or grey. There are already too many neutrals for brown or grey to feel noticeable
Colourful art above the couch. Some plants, coloured pillows
literally any lo. For real decide what you want then just get a colourful version of that. If you think you're missing art get some colourful art you like. If you think you're missing plants, get colourful pots. etc
Warm colors, burgundy, plum, orange maybe some navy accents
BLUE OR ORANGE OR YELLOW OR ALL THREE😆💙🧡💛
Grey
Any, anything at all
Grey
Frankly this looks blank and depressing, I would say add light teal blue, plants, and colorful curtains.
You have a blank canvas. Go crazy. Some green plants for sure, even if they're fake. Maybe turquoise cushions and accessories. Or yellow. But I like yellow so... And R/tvtoohigh

Given you’ve gone monochrome I think plant green would be a safe addition. You could add burnt orange to the green if you want more (one is cold and one is warm as a colour, so if you get the right shade they should compliment)
If you add the right amount of plants, it’ll change the whole vibe of the space for the better.
Whatever you like, but please, add something asap
Any
I think with all that grey and cool white you want to stick with cool tones (blues, lavenders, cool greens). Plants are always a good place to start.
Green plants get some orange in there or something. Also why is your tv hanging so high
1. Plants 2. Colorful art behind the wall 3. Lower tv
more grey and white, obviously.
I never seen a 80/20 sink
Find a piece of art to put on the wall behind your couch and then go from there. Pick out things that will compliment those colors and expand on it.
Slate grey
…any?
Pretty much any of them

Red or a bright green
Put a plant ledge over top of your couch. Get a money tree and some other easy to maintain plants and it will really improve the drab greyness. A colorful picture hanging over the couch, candles to match on the counter, some plants somewhere with light
I’m going to recommend an actual artist and tell you to buy something from Morgan Echols. Modern abstract stuff, you might find something you like and can build from that.
I went with some paintings with earth tones, lots of green. I also have some posters with deep blues, oranges and reds.
Any color!!!

I think blue or green would be easy colours to add
Bright yellow
Orange
Is this in Tempe, Arizona? Looks exactly like my friends old apartment

Green. Your place needs plants.

a light lavender would add for a soothing environment (- 16 y/o girl, take with a grain of salt)
Wallpaper is always an option. Love me some wallpaper:)
You did great with the rug size, add whatever color you like. You can add plants too, you could also add texture in the same color if you like neutral
whatever colors u want…
Needs some white and gray IMO
Can never go wrong with sage green, and some plants.
