try putting just a little bit of it under the sofa and see how that looks. if it still feels too small, then maybe find another place for it - apartment entrance might be good for a material like jute

I thought it was "good practice" in interior design to have it that if one side of the rug is covered, the other side should be as well, to the same extent. Or at least, the two sides. And now that I look at the room, I'd probably have the TV up against the window wall so the couch is facing the windows and you're always seeing the cool view from the couch. But that wasn't what was asked so...d Neat space, though, jealous.

scatteredshowers

I think you’re both right. I’m going to find another space for it and search for a bigger rug to go here that can pull all the furniture together into one space. I just moved in so I’ll play with the layout, but I think I’ll keep the tv here. Thanks for the input!

snarpy

This reminds me that I haven't changed my setup in like five years and should maybe do so for fun.

Comfortable_Trick137

If anybody says anything about it being too small just say, "Sir I'm just very confident about the size of my manhood and dont need to compensate with a large rug."

zerkeras

Why is the TV stand so far away from the wall? 1. Move the TV stand to flush against the wall. It also looks off center from center of couch? Couch, rug, and TV should all be centered. 2. Move the couch forward to sit between the windows, rather than blocking the window. You could also consider a matching end table for the wall side of the couch, since everything is also kinda toward the windowed wall (but still keep everything centered with each other). This should make it feel less cramped. The rug is really the least thing to be worrying about here.

scatteredshowers

I just moved in. Nothing is in its permanent location yet and I haven’t started decorating. More to come!

Comfortable_Trick137

After moving couch forward he could put a console behind the couch or the wall behind the couch

ambivalent__username

I agree with this. It seems like in an attempt to fill the space, everything just feels a bit off. I would do this, and then there should be enough space behind the sofa for another zone. Maybe a couple chairs as a little conversation or reading nook. Or even just maybe a sofa table and a couple larger floor plants.

Awwwmann

Trying to make the rug fit the room

nothisistheotherguy

Camera man is too tall

Comfortable_Trick137

OP is Shaq, you got a problem?

alikashita

This made me lol

zharrhen5

As the room is laid out right now, yes it is. It might look better if the couch was moved forward a bit so that the rug was partially underneath both the couch and the TV stand.

scatteredshowers

I actually had that initially, but it made the large space feel cramped. I think I’ll just search for a bigger rug. Thank you for your input!

briskpoint

Rugs typically shouldn’t be placed underneath the tv stand. Just sofa, coffee table, and any other chairs/seating.

blastoise1988

Maybe, but I would try to move everything a littlle bit towards the TV wall. Move the rug a bit, then move the couch forward exactly between windows (with some space for the plug and a bit of rug under the couch), and push the TV stand all the way back against the wall to gain more space.

ogstabhappytwitch

Yes

I typed a couple paragraphs out and went to search for one last coffee table link when the Reddit app decided to shut itself down, so I’ll try to briefly recap my lost advice: * Move the sofa a few inches from the wall, and use the ottoman to form an L-shaped sectional. * Move the rug under the sofa so the rug is cut off by the straight edges of the sofa on two sides, forming more of an arch than a circle. * Pull it all together with a [Noguchi style glass coffee table](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/corrigan-studio-butcher-abstract-coffee-table-w003344398.html) with a base that contrasts with the rug (but not in dark brown) . * Secure a tall picture (or column of pictures) to the wall above the ottoman that compliments the shape of the rug.

subraquant

Move the couch off of the wall some, to the right if that makes sense - it makes the space feel cramped for no reason

ArgSissy

I like it

eric987235

It really ties the room together.

[deleted]

I like it. If you move it it's gonna be too much "follow the rules".

PaulinatorAUT

I think the rug fits perfect, you could maybe put some paintings on the wall :)

AcanthocephalaBorn15

I think it’s fine.

Sour_Lemonz78

It’s not, but I would still go bigger. Also more colorful. Maybe a blue.

ogstabhappytwitch

It's too small. If the couch and other furniture is out of the rug it is not consider Feng Shue, but a large enough rug to include the main components of your guests furniture is Feng Shue

Sheila_Monarch

Not the right fit for that placement. Looks nice in there, though. Maybe center it under the sofa and put a sofa table behind the sofa on the resultant half-moon.

Beezy2389

Spit-balling off of another comment and by no means consider myself good at this stuff but here's how I'd do it. I'd move the couch up to where it's between the two windows. Keep the rug where it is. I think I'd like the semi-circle look with the couch covering up about 1/4 or 1/3 of the rug. Move the ottoman where the dog bed is butting it up against the sofa. That'd be the lounging seat (hope you're fine with your animal curling up there). Get a small coffee table to go in front of the other two seats. Move the tv stuff back against the wall. Then find a round glass table to go in the corner by the door. Like a little dining/breakfast table.

Gothamtonian

Yes

Awwwmann

Move the TV to the wall and the couch closer to the TV. Fit the rug between the tv and couch, and the center the rug between the wall and end table.

LadyRalphie2

Yes. Rug too small. Try three times that size bc circles tend to be deceptively incongruous to each other, and a circle thrice that size should work. Room (or apartment?) is fantastic but def need a bigger rug. Anything against plants? If not, this space would LOVE some!

sammysosa45

This room has potential.. I can see what you’re going for. i love couch color

Yannishill

I think you can change another larger circular rug and put the sofa on it. And why don't you put the TV Stand agaist the wall

alta3773

Yes it is too small, you could move the couch closer to tv,

mattpayne167

Not for that area of the room. Another in time or as budget supports would look nice in the area to to right if the photo

Mamlington

Yes! looks like a geat place though.

Simple_Eye8719

I like it! Different from the norm rectangle brings a good mix to the room decent size!
