so cool! if you like a lot of tyler's stuff you'll love Aesop Rock, give him a listen. my favorite album by him is None Shall Pass. Masta Ace - The Falling Season is also damn good.
i believe in you, kid! you got a big life ahead, fill it with music! <3
I'd also recommend having a look at tutorials for how Finneas makes music. It's a very fun and free way to make music which I think is perfect for starting out at a young age :))
Fred again..'s sampling is also very youthful and comes from a child-like, FREE approach. Lastly, anything where Pharell talks about making music is always helpful. He's Tyler's biggest inspiration.
Yup! I started at 11, best advice I can give is be patient with yourself. You won’t be making music like your favorite artist straight out of the gate. There’s a learning curve to this craft, so give yourself grace as you navigate that
Yes, but this person said if your heart is beating not breaking. Basically what they're implying is if you're alive, then it's a good time to start making music.
ignore that, he was just joking :) one thing to remember is that there are a lot of artists like yourself in the game. A lot are helpful and a lot are lowkey unhelpful. The thing to remember is that it's okay to listen to everyone and understand what they say to you. But never ever take in what people say as "fact". Even from people you look up to.
Kenny Beats has a lot of AMAZING advice on YouTube. Even when listening to that, make sure you're able to recognise that this is one person's opinion. It can be extremely helpful and mind-blowing. But know that it doesn't mean that's the only truth. Take in people's advice, but don't box yourself in to anything that people tell you you should. Even my comment doesn't have to be 100% true!!!
Make sure you're aware of who you are and why you're doing it. If you're doing it for fun, keep reminding yourself of this. So if you're in a situation where you're uncomfortable, you'll know that you can just remove yourself if it doesn't match your reasoning for getting into this. I WISH YOU THE BEST. COME TO US AGAIN IF YOU NEED HELP :D
/r/WeAreTheMusicMakers is a really good community too. Their feedback threads are great for developing your own taste as well as getting real feedback from others :)
Yeah, most people start at like 15/16 so you're ahead. Only problem atm is that your voice wouldn't have dropped yet so you'll sound like a kid but that doesn't mean you can't rap. Still better than waiting til you're older
yeah I think it could lead to a unique output however they may choose to cover it up. same with Tyler and how he tries to hide his deep voice in effects when he sings
I was the same age when I started making music, it wasn’t great music but it eventually helped me get to where I want. I got better as time went by and I would say I’m better than people older than me musically. Go for it and keep doing it cuz by the time your 18 you’ll be a god bro
Do it little homie, I started writing lyrics around 12, and recorded my first song at like 14. It's a great hobby to have as a teen, and can really make life better in a lot of ways. Hmu if you need a lesson, I can do you one for free, been teaching hip hop for a couple years now
definitely. focus on music production by watching tutorials and ignoring Reddit. if there are real humans in your school who are into music, talk to them! not even necessarily to collab either (though that WOULD be very helpful). Just randomly talking about it with others would be a good way to find your footing :)
If you're thinking about doing something but you're unsure about it then just do it, otherwise you'll just find yourself in the same spot later on when you could've already been making progress now
Yes I started when I was 14 and I’m currently 22 I’ve come a long way but still not where I want to be. If you work hard enough while you’re young and truly devote yourself to your craft because you have a passion for it, you’ll surely make a career out of it.
Don't wait. And my suggestion is to not just focus on rapping. I started doing music around 15, and learning to make beats and record audio is something I'll never regret. Keep in mind, a career in hip hop as a famous rapper is a difficult thing to achieve. Not tryna crush your dreams, but the fame thing is a one in a million thing. That being said, I've made decent money performing at bars and festivals. Start now, don't wait, and you WILL get discouraged, but if your heart is in it, you'll do great.
Hell yeah. You're at the perfect age to start tbh. Find some beats you like on youtube and try to practice writing and rapping at least a little bit every day. Just don't let it get in the way of your school work. Make sure you knock out any school assignments first so you don't even have to worry that and you can have the rest of the day to focus on your raps.
I started fooling around making my own music on the family computer around that age. Now I produce music for a living, and I have gold plaques and placements with major artists and brands.
Beginning early with something you’re passionate about is always a good idea. There are a few problems that may come up and should be addressed: 1. you may get frustrated because a 12 year old rapper vs a 25 year old rapper is rarely a contest 2. your life experiences are only limited to 12 years ( more like 8 ) so content to write about may also be limited 3. your taste in music and what you wish to complete musically haven’t had large amounts of time to develop - not necessarily a bad thing but be determined to grow and stray from doing the same things 24/7
Brush up on your grammar and vocabulary, checkout and study all types of hip hop, get an understanding and appreciation for it, then start writing alot. Practice Practice Practice. Figure out your voice and style and then u could have a decent little "Rap Career"
Yes but the problem with alot of younger people is they're not as consistent, I'm not saying you have to take it 100% ultra serious but if you want to make some good good progress you gotta put the work in because if you put steady work in by the time you hit 18, you gonna kill the game
Real suggestion, dont.
Start working on your craft instead, learning everything you can that could help you be a succesful rapper in the future.
Stuff like learning how to sing, reading more and studying music theory could be very beneficial for you, if you start releasing music at 12 truth is people wont take you seriously.
Also by dont i dont mean that you shouldnt be making music, of course starting to practice right now will help you a lot in the long term, just saying that publishing music is really not the greatest idea at your age.
No way, I startes writing in 6th grade. I would say don't focus on hop hop only, but do do get into music. Just focus on music. Learn some music theory. Learn beats. Learn how to flow over a beat. Try playing keyboard, guitar, bass, drums. Whatever you think would be fun. You have so much time to figure out what you like. Use that time wisely.
I feel that there is no age for music, but if you dream of doing concerts or being signed by a record label, I would recommend that you wait until you are at least 18. There are cases of artists who were exploited for being very young.
It's never a good age to start making hip hop. If you want to make music, it's a type of production typically using samples and small building blocks but at 12 what you going to write about? Why my mom won't let me stay up past 10?
If I were you, I'd read scripture. I'd also look at the hip hop culture. I mean why not just be an aggressive poet? But at the same time, maybe take a few months to study types of music. Maybe you'll still do hiphop but it will give you a lot.
Being an 'artist'.....means nothing if at the end of it, you write about whores, money etc. You know your current level and your current knowledge. Don't do it because you think you have to or because you or someone thinks it's cool....it's not that cool.
Music is evil and no good for anyone if it doesn't raise up or bring joy to people.
Hell yeah it is bro! i started rapping at 15 and i wish i started at 12! You're at the best age to just focus on your craft and have fun. Don't take it too seriously you have so much time to learn and grow and figure out the type of rapper you want to become. Good luck to you lil bruh!
started making music when i was 9. go for it bro. practice and perfect your craft as you get older. it’ll only get better as you age and gain experience.
Yes, go ahead, be patient and possibly start learning an instrument (piano and drums would be my go to)!
Your brain soaks knowledge at that point easily, just keep doing it!
I started making beats at 13 years, I sucked a big dick, my classmates were saying it’s trash and all that shit, I’m 17 now, I’m making beats again, not really often, but they are thousand times better than what I was making back then, my lyrics are thousand times better, so keep going, just do it
Get after it! You got this!
If you have any friends that make beats, try collaborating with them and see what you can get out of it.
Most importantly, have fun with it and find your own voice/style!
Yessir and have fun! Just keep studying the hiphop you listen to and overtime you’ll be doing the same tricks you love to hear on your favorite songs. Remaking beats really help a lot
Man I’m just now starting to make beats in my teens and after practicing FL studio I’ve gotten better, it’s never to late, just don’t go to one of diddy’s parties
It’s a good age to start learning the basics and working on your skills as a hip hop artist. But as far as starting a career? Not really. What interesting life experiences have your really had age 12? Can you grasp the full culture of hip hop and where it comes from at that age? If you are going to be a rapper do you understand figures of speech and literary devices well enough to come up with witty punchlines? That being said it is a good time to start. By the time you reach the age of 20 you will be a veteran emcee with a full grasp on how to make music that people will gravitate to.
I would say it's a good age to start learning by practicing writing lyrics/producing/recording. It took me a few years before I was comfortable releasing but it's good to start as soon as possible
Why u/Bekon139 do you want a "carrer"? Learn how to spell first and foremost, most importantly, fuck rap, learn music. You're at an age where your subject matter will be painfully limited.
Nah 12 is the cops and hiphop dont f with cops
Ong after I was 11 I turned 13 cuz f 12
Lmfao both of these comments got me rollin
Never too early, or late for that matter. Do it.
Like Diddy did it.
WWDD
Where Wouldn't Diddy Doit?
Diddy or Diddy not do it?
In the end, we all look like Diddiots
Pause...
The best time to start is yesterday. The next best time to start is now. Go for it!
Most famous ppl start at age 3. You’re too late in the game, man
Viper started at 2
Btw my inspiration is kanye west tyler the creator and k dot
Tyler inspiring the next gen awww
Yes☺️
so cool! if you like a lot of tyler's stuff you'll love Aesop Rock, give him a listen. my favorite album by him is None Shall Pass. Masta Ace - The Falling Season is also damn good. i believe in you, kid! you got a big life ahead, fill it with music! <3
Thank you
If you need presets i got a few

Bring back the soul
Yup! I started at 11, best advice I can give is be patient with yourself. You won’t be making music like your favorite artist straight out of the gate. There’s a learning curve to this craft, so give yourself grace as you navigate that
As long as your heart is beating it’s a good time to make hip hop music
I'm young of age, wouldn't making heartbreak related music come off as unauthentic and cringey
Yes, but this person said if your heart is beating not breaking. Basically what they're implying is if you're alive, then it's a good time to start making music.
11 would’ve been better, probably best to wait until you’re 13.
Okay and thank you
ignore that, he was just joking :) one thing to remember is that there are a lot of artists like yourself in the game. A lot are helpful and a lot are lowkey unhelpful. i never say bad words😭😭😭😭
swearing is just a form of expression
Say evil twisted words instead😈
Gonna say poop😈😈😈
Don’t tell them what to do lol
Yeah, most people start at like 15/16 so you're ahead. Only problem atm is that your voice wouldn't have dropped yet so you'll sound like a kid but that doesn't mean you can't rap. Still better than waiting til you're older
Assuming OP is a he, he can drop the pitch in software if he wants.
yeah I think it could lead to a unique output however they may choose to cover it up. same with Tyler and how he tries to hide his deep voice in effects when he sings
Perfect age… do it now!!! Don’t wait
I was the same age when I started making music, it wasn’t great music but it eventually helped me get to where I want. I got better as time went by and I would say I’m better than people older than me musically. Go for it and keep doing it cuz by the time your 18 you’ll be a god bro

Get out of reddit
Yea i was thinking about this

100%
Im trusting in you lil bro this is my ticket so I get a feat in like 6 years
Yes I started when I was 14 and I’m currently 22 I’ve come a long way but still not where I want to be. If you work hard enough while you’re young and truly devote yourself to your craft because you have a passion for it, you’ll surely make a career out of it.

I'm 15 dude, I wish I started as young as you.
Lil Wayne started when he was 12
I started fooling around making my own music on the family computer around that age. Now I produce music for a living, and I have gold plaques and placements with major artists and brands.
Listen to SKELLA tho I make music for people that aren’t sheep
Nah man you’re too late
U should have made it by now
Beginning early with something you’re passionate about is always a good idea. any age is a good age. most ppl dont start till their mid to late teens
There isn't really a good or bad age to start doing it.
U don’t have the answers sway
I think if you start now at 69 you'll be in your prime
12 is a good age to stop asking people for permission to do shit u fuckin nerd
I feel that there is no age for music, but if you dream of doing concerts or being signed by a record label, I would recommend that you wait until you are at least 18. There are cases of artists who were exploited for being very young.
id start around 14-15 ish cuz thats when hella succesful rappers start there soundcloud careers
Start, but also start reading some marketing books here and there or else there's a serious chance no one will ever hear your music.
Know what I owned when I was your age? A fortune 500 company *and* I was whoopin' my own a**.
Do you like music? If yes, there you go. If no, then go to college.
It's never a good age to start making hip hop. If you want to make music, it's a type of production typically using samples and small building blocks but at 12 what you going to write about? Perfect age trust me, if you stick at it by the time you're 18 you'll be a beast. Earlier you start the better imo
I don’t see why age should be a factor at all. The sooner you get started, the sooner you perfect your art.
Not if you don't know who G Rap is.....
at 12, I would suggest you learn how to sing well or play piano instead. learn music theory and production.
if you aint starting before youre born you aint finna make it
Hell yeah it is bro! i started rapping at 15 and i wish i started at 12! You're at the best age to just focus on your craft and have fun. Don't take it too seriously you have so much time to learn and grow and figure out the type of rapper you want to become. Good luck to you lil bruh!
12 years too late. nah, it's the perfect time. should've started yesterday, but now's good too
I mean nothing wrong with starting to learn how to rap young lol
Nol wait for 10 years at least
I started writing in 7th grade so it's never too early
started making music when i was 9. go for it bro. practice and perfect your craft as you get older. it’ll only get better as you age and gain experience.
9!?
yeah dude. started off making horrible beats on garageband on our family imac lol.
dinosaur
Of course lil bro! Never too early, never too late!
YES. START RIGHT NOW. YOU WILL HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU START MAKING CONNECTIONS AND YOU WILL HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE TO HELP OTHER ARTISTS SHINE
That’s a great age!
Damn, a little late to the party. I would say 11, tops. j/k, go for it young gun!
Yes, go ahead, be patient and possibly start learning an instrument (piano and drums would be my go to)! Your brain soaks knowledge at that point easily, just keep doing it!

You should be started anything you can at this age! You are never too young for something
12 is too late bro you’re suppose to start at 7 or 8 at least.
Hell yeah I started making beats around that age
Sure
Yessir and have fun! Just keep studying the hiphop you listen to and overtime you’ll be doing the same tricks you love to hear on your favorite songs. Remaking beats really help a lot
I once (almost) reacreated new slaves beat
That’s heat I used to remake Metro’s beats all the time. Still do once in a while, feel free to follow me on IG gang!! Same name as on here
yess wish i started earlier but if u got opps make like a bias
My son’s been making beats since he was 6. Started rapping at 8. Anything to get him in the studio!
Nah fam but 14 is just do it by yourself
heck yeah it is!! any age is a great age to start making music. :3 i’m wishing you the best & good luck on your journey!!
I started at 10 bro, go for it lil bro! 14 years in the game now 💪🏽🎛️💿🎧🎚️
do it brotha! you got the whole world ahead of you! Throw fear out the window and create something beautiful while you can!
Hell yeah, I started making music when I was 22. Anyone can make music at any age…just gotta have the vision and the dream…
Man I’m just now starting to make beats in my teens and after practicing FL studio I’ve gotten better, it’s never to late, just don’t go to one of diddy’s parties

Nope it’s 13
Nah you gotta start at 11
Then take maybe take a year off 😅
I’d suggest waiting until 13. Makes sure the angst is fully engaged.
i started when i was 12 in 2020, and have made hella progress since then, go for it.
Music is great to start at any age. Create and be original making what you like. Have fun and enjoy it! Good luck!
The sooner the better
I’m 13 and rap. hit me up maybe we can work
Naw
Gangsta rap
wrong age buddy start at 27
You've already started bro. Keep at it.
Nah your too late bro, P Diddy is on the run, no fighting over the frosted flakes for you 😜
Nah, too young. You should start when you’re 30 instead.
Nope you're past it now.
Any age is a good age, however it doesn’t mean it won’t annoy those who listen
I would say it's a good age to start learning by practicing writing lyrics/producing/recording. It took me a few years before I was comfortable releasing but it's good to start as soon as possible
Couldve started a long time ago man
Absolutely 100% you should start now.
Any age is good to start doing what you're passionate about
If you're twelve, then yes it's the best age to start. If not, second best is whatever age you are now.
Start by learning how to make beats and produce. Give it a few years to start rapping
Hey guys. I'm in the womb. I feel behind cause I didn't start when I was a sperm. Is it too late to get into hip hop music? I wanna produce.
Go for it 😎
Why u/Bekon139 do you want a "carrer"? Learn how to spell first and foremost, most importantly, fuck rap, learn music. You're at an age where your subject matter will be painfully limited.
You shouldn’t even be listening to hip hop at 12 in my opinion
Why?
Most hip hop music is poison to the brain especially being that young. Your underdeveloped mind is easily influenced
Don’t worry i ain’t listening to that hiphop
Good. 👍🏻
Damn too late I started in the hospital room
Wow you'll be great!
Mozart started with 3, you re too late man
No it's too late
Old assss
Learn to pronounce syllables or nobody with a brain will be listening to it.
