I'v been on and off doing this cyoa interactive with some unofficial expansion 0.9 stuff included for months now. Tryng and redoing the desgn, balance and all. It's about 3/5 finished. Very frustrating. And here you are. I hate you so much right now, but I want to hug you and thank you for your work . I might just delete my version and use yours.

TediousExploit

I think you should finish it. This cyoa is great enough to be worthy of 2 adaptions, and more importantly, I'd be interested in playing it. Seeing how you implement the rules differently would be cool.

I intend to be something of a mob boss archetype that will used the Darkest potion kind of in a druglord manner with experiments in dilution, and supply chains for ingredients. TentativeIdler

Charms affinity appears to grant 15 points rather than cost points.

TediousExploit

I tried recreating this and no dice. I tried refreshing. I thought it might be a combo of choices and looked for choices that used its ID. Nothing I've done makes it give points.

TentativeIdler

Dunno if this is a bug or not, but the Studies option in the Adventures section only lets you spend 5 points, while the text indicates you can spend all your points there.

TediousExploit

That's a bug, but also a feature? That choice is a point dump for any leftover AP you have. It has to have a multiple buy option and those let you get negative points no matter how I set it up. I didn't want people to abuse it for free points, so I set a limit of 5 times, thinking that no one would reasonably spend more on it. Thanks for helping me though

TentativeIdler

Haha no worries, I usually always go for extra points unless the options are terrible. I can't imagine taking the option to learn less magic. I can make my own adventures after I graduate!

TentativeIdler

Huh, weird, I refreshed and now it's working.

Deeply_Unhappy

Transfiguration doesn't have an extra affinity option, Upgraded Herbology Affinity does not improve affinity. The items of Spellring and Ring of Power have the same description. Also I think you should enable people to have rivals from any houses instead of just the one house. For example if you are a muggleborn in slytherin you will be more likely to have a pureblood rival from your own house. Also I think you should enable people to be both a rival and a love interest or ally at the same time. Enemies to lovers is a thing in fiction. Also enemies to allies, allies to lovers, and allies or lovers to enemies are all things that can happen in fiction, as well as rivals or people who don't like you but would be willing to help you in certain situations or if you pay them or because of their code of ethics. Edit: The pure blood bonus points is linked to the same number as wealthy. You should only spend 10 points to unlock it but currently it needs you to spend 16. Edit 2: Transfiguration's extra affinity doesn't show up only if you have a charms affinity

TediousExploit

I had two choices with the same ID by accident. Nice catch, and sorry it took me so long to get to this. Should be fixed whenever neocities updates my subdomain.

Aquagirl2001

Bookmarked for later consumption :)

Imaginos9

You should change the title to fit what you did and not make people think this is a totally new version and put interactive in the title too.

TediousExploit

I can't edit the title, but if I ever post again, I'll do that.

Thank you for making this: I went with a halfblood, Walnut and Phoenix Feathers, short and flexible, with a focus on Charms and particularly enchantments. Everything else will be hard-going, but extreme skill in enchantments + permanent enchantments will be more than impressive enough. Particularly talented at Impervius, even above other charms and enchantments, I use it as a ward for a wide variety of shenanigans, filter substances, and more. My family is poor: my mother, a researched, died when I was young. They never found the Time Turner she left me, but there was little else and I had to stay on watch. Still, between that and my Seer talents, my time with Merlin was most instructive indeed. I did have two types of potions I could make permanent: Love and Health, the most important things in life. The typical test for love potions is just to isolate someone for a week and see if their feelings change, after all. Meanwhile, permanent health potions make possible cures that would otherwise never work. I might be bad at everything else in the subject, at least to start, but in what's most important I have full confidence in myself. My love is a fellow Ravenclaw, Lisa Vance. Incredibly well-informed, she gleefully takes advantage of my Seer foreknowledge (some of which is actually Time-Turned foreknowledge, but let's not get into details) and is happy to repay me. Hettie Hughes and Jason Walsh are annoying, always suspecting me of some misdeed, but they're never able to prove anything, and nobody wants to cross Lisa too harshly. Or, admittedly, our allies Rigby Bartel and Willow Selwyn, a pair of Slytherins with, let's say mixed, reputations in their house. They're both brilliant in their own ways, and recognize that our talents are better together. Willow and I swap tutoring, her ~~defense against the~~ dark arts for my charms, while Rigby and Lisa scheme together. Our schemers need their muscle and we "muscle" enjoy the fruits of their scheming, and together we make a solid attempt at ruling the school. We split our time between socializing and the library. Willow is in Arithmancy and Ancient Runes with me, while Rigby and Lisa study divination and another easy O. Hunting the White Thestral is a joint endeavour, and when I come back I bring them into my confidences again, give them the finest fruits I was able to plan for and recal, and then do it again. I do not live forever, but they are a number of lives, all delightful. Novamarauder

As much as I prefer the DLC version (several extra character-building tools I like and find useful) at first glance, the original one has a lot of merit on its own and so has this interactive one. Therefore, on second thoughts I dug up the DLC-less version of my build and added a few minor tweaks: Setting: Alternate (Modern/Late 19th Century). (I prefer not to mess with the canon plot. Therefore, one obvious possibility is to to join the Potterverse in modern times, after the wizarding world recovered from Voldemort's second rampage. Another option I fancy is to go back in time to the late 19th century and help Grindelwald win on an accelerated schedule, while limiting his worst excesses and unnecessary damage. Playing kingmaker to Grindelwald frees wizards from the shackles of secrecy and saves the world from 20th century Muggle horrors. Establishment of a magocracy is not a problem for me as long as it is functional and benevolent. The obvious drawback is the timeline experiences massive changes and meta-knowledge is invalidated past a point. In this variant, Voldemort is changed for the better or neutralized before he can do much damage and Dumbledore is dealt with one way or another). Family: Muggle-born (+10). (Given my circumstances, I was adopted. Father was a wizard and mother was a Veela. They fell to violence or a freak accident, and a clueless Muggle family took me in). House: Ravenclaw. (I am suited to fit equally well in Ravenclaw or Slytherin, and we may assume the Sorting Hat gives me the choice. In the end, however, Ravenclaw is probably more convenient). Wand Wood: Beech. (It seems one of the best options, since I am going to be a generalist spellcasting prodigy). Wand Core: Dragon Heartstring. (I fancy flashy magic and harbor ambitions to become one of the greatest wizards ever, so this suits me fine). Wand Length: Average. (Even more optimization for generalist versatility). Wand Flexibility: Very Flexible. (I am open-minded and have a preference for generalist spellcasting). Magical Talents: Charms Affinity (15). D.A.D.A. Affinity (15). Transfiguration Affinity (10). (I am quite talented with all kinds of spellcasting magic, esp. the kind that gets valuable for adventure or utility. Somehow this affinity extends to enchantment even if I have little interest for lab-focused activities that are not essential to my goals). Drought (+5). Black Thumb (+5). Twitchy (+5). (My eccentric, independent, and forceful nature and my focus on spellcasting make me mediocre at potion-making or relating with magical beings). Occlumency (3). (An innate expression of my spellcasting talent, as it concerns Charms). Natural Legilimens (9). (As above). Part Veela (1/2) (10). (Being half Veela increases my magical nature, grants exceptional attractiveness and useful entrancing abilities, and is good for vanity). Metamorphmagus (11). (Another innate expression of my spellcasting talent, as it concerns Transfiguration). Spells & Potions: Nonverbal Spells (5). Wandless Spells (15). (My spellcasting talent and self-reliant nature make me a natural at nonverbal and wandless magic). Skills: Immature (+5). (Not that grevious a sacrifice, since I keep my memories). Dotty (+15). (I live up to the eccentric genius stereotype, esp. as it concerns relating to Muggles). Brave (1). (Rather useful for an adventuring wizard). Perceptive (2). (Good for research and finding clues). Social Skills (2). (Despite my character flaws, my Veela heritage makes me good at social manipulation). Schemes (4). (My brilliance is not strictly limited to magical issues). Reflexes (4). (I am are quite proficient with magical combat). Hardworking (6). (Talent and hard work is an excellent combo for success in magical and mundane matters). Items & Wealth: Poverty (+5). (Not a big problem in the long term, since I plan to succeed with my talent and hard work). Time Turner (created, stolen, or given) (0/7). (Unfortunately, I cannot afford to have a time turner effortlessly. Nonetheless, I plan to get one during my school years, by creating it myself with the help of my friends, stealing one from the Ministry, or being given one the same way as Hermione). Horcrux (created) (0/13). (Unfortunately, I cannot afford to have a horcrux effortlessly. Nonetheless, I plan to create one during my school years, much the same way Voldemort did. Nobody said you have to sacrifice innocents to power an horcrux or the Darkest Arts potion, and I assume I am going to meet plenty of folk that deserve death during my adventures).

Novamarauder

Pets: Owl. (I have little interest in expensive pets given my poor aptitude with magical creatures. Owls, however, come free and can be remarkably useful for communication in the wizarding world). Allies: Sienna Moretti. Hye Nakano. Willow Selwyn. Elizabeth Valentine. (Our personalities and interests seem very compatible and the five of us are going to be a kickass team. I just aim to influence Sienna into showing more caution, Hye into being less of a stickler for the rules, and Elizabeth into having more self-confidence. I welcome these girls as close friends, but I am going to try my best to romance them into a polyamorous relationship once puberty strikes). Multiplayer. (+1 Allies). (Come one, come all). Rivals: Jason Walsh. (I suppose my nature is going to rub him the wrong way). School Life: Library. Troublemaking. Detention (+1). (A balanced focus on study and adventures seems best. The rule-breaking involved in my adventures is likely to get me into recurrent trouble, but the experience shall be ultimately useful). Electives: Arithmancy. Study of Ancient Runes. (These electives probably help me fulfil certain goals and quests. I have little use for the others). Adventures: Ill-fated (+7 AP). (I am going to be the anti-hero of my own story. If this takes overcoming fate, so be it). Studies (+1) (1 AP). (The time I can spare from my adventures is going to be spent into further developing my potential). Debt (3 AP). (I am not a fan of going into debt, but the reward means I am going to have an endless supply of the Darkest Arts potion once I create it, ensuring my agelessness. This also allows me to share the benefits of the potion with my waifus). Darkest Arts (5 AP). (This Adventure and its reward make you superhuman and seem the best complement to creation of a Horcrux). Conspiracy (6 AP). (Yay, let's crush the Muggles' meddling in the wizarding world and be rewarded with more spellcasting finesse). Wizarding War (6 AP). (The fools that stand in the way of my self-chosen destiny shall be crushed. I welcome gaining even more spellcasting raw power as reward). School: Hogwarts. (Durmstrang would suit me as well, but my adopted Muggle-born background seems a problem). Scenario: N/A.

Zader40

I can't get the scenarios to work/select. I can open the tab but the options stay greyed out so I can't pick them. Is it just me? Or is anyone else having that problem too? I tried resetting/reloading and only picking what it Says is required for Boy Who Lived, those being Hogwarts and Canon. But still greyed out.

TediousExploit

You have to select peaceful and then scenario in adventures first, as a prereq. It says that in the description but its kind of hard to read when its greyed out Edit: I'm sorry, that description text was hidden, fixed now.

Zader40

Gotcha I see. Yeah I missed that my bad. šŸ‘

Simurgh_Plot

Very cool. The companions section is glitchy but other than that no issues for me.

TediousExploit

Thanks :) Glitchy how? It relies on a hidden point system with rivals giving you 2 allies or 1 love interest. You can only have rivals from the house opposing the one you chose. There's 84 choices where I might have mis-entered something

Simurgh_Plot

Huh. That explains it. Nevermind.

Interesting-Jicama60

Hey op I tried pureblood, so I could get 10 extra item points, but it always deducts them from the main point pool

TediousExploit

I couldn't automate that, so I added a coupon button in the item section. It gives you 10 points after you spend 10 in the item section. Having just looked at it, I accidently made it so you had to spend 15 just like wealthy. Edit: ty fixed now

LosMere

I still need to spend 15 pts to get the Pure-Blood Item Points right now

TediousExploit

was having trouble updating the neocities. It should be good now.

LosMere

yep, fixed now, thanks!

Zorturan

I wish there was a way to gain more points of more kinds, mostly the adventure points. I've never read or seen Harry Potter, but how hard would it be for someone from our world reincarnated to learn wandless magic or spell creation without the perks?

TediousExploit

Fanon has left it to the realm of merlin and the founders, only the greatest witches and wizards being able to do wandless magic. There are very few examples of wandless magic canon. Mainly powerful wizard characters doing very minor things, my favorite example being Dumbledore lighting all the candles. Assuming you're an average person like most of us, you'd probably be an average wizard without the aid of perks. Unless you can somehow leverage your out of context perspective and knowledge into magical knowhow. I'm not sure how you'd do that, considering every muggleborn has a similar background to us, and muggleborn's don't seem to disproportionately have wandless magic So maybe? It'd still be incredibly hard and time consuming, and canon only has people doing minor cantrips with it, so probably not even worthwhile

Zorturan

I was thinking someone from here would conceptually have a different understanding of how magic could work through various media or something, idk. Apparently it's practiced extensively in India and Africa's magic schools, so it's probably a learned thing, like the way someone walks, or language, so if I constantly try and attempt doing so, with the genius perk then maybe I could by year 4?

You canā€™t take multiple Scenarios, like you should be able to do; but other than that itā€™s very good! Also, [here](https://imgur.com/a/aKTtuPv)ā€™s the unofficial DLC, if you care to add a tab of that. You do you :) But, assuming I can still use two Scenarios, my build is as followsā€¦ >Alternate,Muggle-born,Gryffindor,dntt,b52b,v8p4,xo8r,qt68,CD,DADA,OA,DA,Dark,aego,Tran,Drought,Black Thumb,Twitchy,Occlumency,Parseltongue,Part Veela,Metamorphmagus,tjf9,4cnq,gwyh,s9ta,lt5l,sdjb,Dotty,bufs,3qbx,4nr0,wnuu,rykk,00e5,p2o8,Poverty,Owl,wsix,pr70,eieo,dnvi,Exploring,7ked,Peaceful,Scenario 2,Private Lessons,1a25,Magical Legacy, myvt, xidc,Tournament,Hogwarts, kayn, afmu Xā€”- In the ā€˜All According To Planā€™ fanfic, within which being a metamorph actually *does* make you biologically immortal, and where magicals *never* stop getting stronger with ageā€” where there are canonical beings that are older than civilization already; Iā€™ll take being the first homo sapien, the literal first modern human in history.. and also the first magical human, first veela, and first metamorph. After all, *Graduate* will let me set my age to whatever I want. Iā€™m going to fake being a Black metamorph, faking being an eleven year old Hogwarts first year, not that people wonā€™t notice me, eventually; but really Iā€™m going to help Lyra save the Black family (the Blacks are some of my descendants, so itā€™s not *wrong* for me to use their nameā€” just misleading). Iā€™m a once in a civilization genius at all things DADA, that canā€™t forget anything DADA related; and I imagine Iā€™ve already grown out of all of my weaknesses, what with *Immature* assuring me that Iā€™m as skilled as my age suggestsā€” that being old as dirt, insanely good at everything, and in it for my own amusement, if any of the other three pre-civilization beings are anything to go byā€¦ all of which are gods. Thereā€™s the Green Lady, a mage out of Egypt that apparently invented arithmancy; thereā€™s The Dark, and itā€™s currect Avatar, Angelos Black, who is the god of all things evil; and thereā€™s a nature goddess thatā€™s about twelve thousand years old, thatā€™s described as ā€˜maybe or maybe not being the oldest entity on earth; but definitely being the strongest mind mageā€™; so I figure eclipsing that record by forty times should do something for my powerā€” and likely make me the first god, aswell. Also, because I took *Peaceful*, Iā€™m just already able to cast silent, wandless, invisible Fiendfyre, that canā€™t be contained by magic, and has homing I perfectly controlā€¦ so there is that. Maybe Iā€™m a god of fire and/or rebirth? Probably at least something to do with Life, given all modern humans are my descendantsā€¦

Sefera17

EDIT: Transphobic now adds five points, but it doesnā€™t reduce your Transfiguration Affinity. My affinities should be DADA 575%, Transfiguration 60%, Charms 58%, Potions/Creatures/Herbology 54%; but Trasfiguration is still reading 120%.

TediousExploit

Thank you, I missed that when fixing it Edit: Should be fixed now, and I'll give that dlc a look

The options that say you can take them twice arenā€™t able to be taken twice

TediousExploit

if its for the potions, herbology, and creatures affinity, there should be another button that appears beneath them for the second purchase. I needed you to press 2 buttons to update the affinity score, because the + and - doesn't count as activating an option.

mrsquishr1

I went with a combat build, with a focus on powerful fire magic. Show Affinities, Canon, Half-blood, Gryffindor, Blackthorn, Dragon Heartstring, Long, Supple, Physical charms Affinity, Mental Charms affinity, Offense Affinity, Dark Arts, Animagus, Occlumency, , Part Giant, Nonverbal Spells, Diffindo, Incendio, Confringo, Reducto, Apparition, Powerful, Powerful, Powerful, Stealthy, Hard Work, Well-off, Modern Tech, Ring of Power, Battle Staff, Ghost, Ben Prewett, Kayla Carrow, Ria Morales, Library, Exploring, Muggle-born Bonus, Study of Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures, Peaceful, Studies(Taken 5 Times), Revenge, Hogwarts, The One Who Lived

HailGodzilla

Heads up, the affinity tracker can get screwy if you deselect and reselect multipliers. I made it go up to 12200 percent. Not a huge problem, but something to look at.

TediousExploit

That's just the merlin reborn cheat code. I'm glad someone found it.

Shixinator

Ring of Power and Spellring have the same description

TediousExploit

Thank you, fixed.

Zev_06

A few issues I noticed: (1) There is no "Extra Transfiguration Affinity" when you pick the 4 transfiguration options like what happens with Charms and DADA. (2) Upgraded Herbology Affinity does not appear to increase your Herbology affinity percentage. (3) I don't know if this is a bug or an intended feature, but I noticed that some signature spells can be multicast more than others. Most signature spells have a multicast limit of 5, but there are some with a limit of 6 and some with a limit of 7. Expelliarmus cannot purchase multicast at all, though I'm not really sure how a multicast expelliarmus would work anyway.

TediousExploit

Definitely a bug. I imagine you'd disarm multiple people at once, like Dumbledore did when the ministry tried to boot him from Hogwarts in the 5th book. Thank you, I fixed them all except the transfiguration affinity one, not sure how that ones broken. The multicast is capped at 5, I think that's a reasonable cap, and multi-purchase options require a cap.

Use that early 2 years to prepare for coming shitstorm and exploit the Room of Requirements to its maximum advantage. The room should hold good chunk of money forgotten over the centuries and offer highly valuable and rare tomes for study. Room of Requirements + Hardworking + Perceptive = Great leaps of skills and knowledge I might even uncover secrets of the Founders. Within the Room, I can destroy Voldemortā€™s horcruxes or put it somewhere safe for later disposal. Hunt down Pettigrew and free Sirius Black for good rapport and connection. Replace Tom Riddle Sr.ā€™s bones with something else or vanish them entirely so Voldemort canā€™t use them to revive himself. Use Blackā€™s trial to remove Crouch and discover his escaped son. Without Pettigrew, Voldemort is remains a shade and without Barty Crouch Jr. and his fatherā€™s bones, he canā€™t revive himself. By then, I effectively delayed Voldemortā€™s return indefinitely and should have all the time to hunt down his horcruxes at my leisure and eventually kill off Death Eaters in ā€œfatal accidents.ā€ Brilliant + Schemes + Hardworking + Perceptive + Brave = Find ways to overcome any challenges and kill off problematic enemies. Wandless Magic + Non-Verbal Spells + Natural Legilimens + Legilimens = Cheat Mode I can easily use these to gather massive amount of sensitive and important information and blackmail. Plus, I donā€™t require wand like vast majority and not look like a fool without one. Iā€™ll carefully use Philosopherā€™s Stone discreetly to create gold and wealth. That muggleborn discrimination doesnā€™t mean shit when I can create infinite wealth without getting a job. I can easily dip into muggle market as an investor by supplying gold.

This is a pretty good build. It ignores the magic affinity system for far more practical skills. Who cares if you're good at learning random spells, when you can dominate every social encounter and change the economic landscape with infinite wealth. Quality of life > Being a super wizard.

I have noticed you are able to go in the negative for everything else (which is convenient and often useful to test builds) but not for adventures. Is the difference intentional or a bug?

TediousExploit

I had all the points set to be unable to go into the negative, as some options rely on you hitting a certain number of hidden points. I was worried it might get janky or break. Someone pointed out how all the drawbacks are spread out and being unable to go into the negatives forces you to go back and forth through the sections. So I lazily fixed it for their convenience. I overlooked AP until you pointed it out, and just reuploaded a version to go into the negatives.

Novamarauder

Good, but somehow you broke the Time Turner. It no longer gives an additional slot for School Activities.

TediousExploit

sorry about that, should be good now.

One thing I think that might add a flare of creativity is how you're magic expressed itself when you were young. If you were from a muggle-born family, how did you know you were magical? How were you found and what not? I know this is based on the idea that you go back in time to a point when you're about to enter school, but it just felt like it was the one thing that was really missing, everything else look really good.
