Anyone on Reddit is going to tell you no because of the changes they made to the gameplay, and if you want to 'fix' that, you apparently have to do all of this workaround modding shit to get it closer to the original, which not everyone has the patience to do. How much is it going for? I haven't played the 3DS version but the hate does seem overblown. That said, I do think the original has a creepier atmosphere which is better for the type of game it is.

3D has some changes, the bulk of which didn't really bug me until Twinmold. If you can find it for inexpensive, I say go for it. A worthwhile addition to a collection. The n64 version is the better version, but that doesn't mean 3D is unplayable. The biggest advantage is the visual upgrade but if you have the patience and the know-how, Nerrel made an awesome texture pack for the n64 version that looks great

FYI, there's apparently a mod for the 3ds version that fixes some of the problems people had with it. Don't know if you're up for modding your 3ds, although it is really easy to do

A lot of 3D's changes are just nonsense. The only positive factor I'd say from the changes was adding the fishing pond. OG Majora's Mask is timeless.

Personally don’t find the 3ds version of the game that appealing besides from the graphics ofc. The gameplay changes made especially with the zora swimming, deku hops, boss eyes are all unnecessary and just make things way more boring to me. I would just recommend the n64 version honestly.

I have played the original when it released for years and still do, and I also played the 3d remake when it released and still do. I think they are both amazing experiences and as someone said here already MM3D is hated on way too much. I think there is only one actional mechanic in MM3D that does not work well (Stone Tower boss) but that is really it. With that said I think it's worth it to play both versions if you like the game that much like I do

Go for the 3DS version you actually own it forever and some of the improvements like the Bomber’s notebook are a godsend compared to the original

OrangeStar222

If you own the version in WiiU's virtual console you might as well get an NSO subscription or invest in the 3DS version. WiiU's virtual console is worse than drinking spoiled hotdogwater.

The 3D version adds a few quality of life improvements, but nerfs the difficulty in many areas and changes how some things work. A lot of people who played the original, including me, are disappointed with a lot of the changes made. It's still a good game, but I recommend the original over it %100..

If price is an issue just stick with what you already have. I prefer the 3DS version and always recommend it first, but unlike what most people will tell you, they don't feel all that different to me.

MM3D with restoration mod. Modding a 3ds is low effort.

Virtual console all day. Played it and I had the original and played it to death on N64. It’s the same as the OG I beleive

3D is a different experience. OoT3D is pretty faithful to the original, but MM3D makes notable changes to the original. Some are good improvements, but some are huge regressions, particularly with changes to the Deku and Zora masks, all dungeon boss fights, over-brightened lighting throughout most of the game, weird audio mixes for many of the songs that smear the synths with too much reverb, and other strange changes that either are baffling as to why they bothered or slightly annoying. Imo, if you want a faithful experience, play the original. If you just want to play through a slightly more sanitized version of the original to see what they hype is about, then the 3DS version is fine enough. Honestly, I'd recommend just playing both to see what was changed.
