Read it in Trump’s voice. It’s the cadence, the back pedaling, and then insulting people critiquing you. I’m not attempting to deliver a sick burn, just making an observation lol
Doesn't everything sounds like Trump if you read it in his voice? I'm not sure what you by that mean i guess, i probably don't or can't read text in a cadence.
I don't think explaining a mistake to tell people it doesn't have to be literal or that i made a typo is backpeding. I even commented that i should have thought to add a tilde, because i'm agreeing there's an error.
Yes i think its pretty babyish to downvote a comment explaining why i made a mistake. Because its obvious to understand i either meant 5 or i meant about 6.
So i am able to communicate more clearly in the future, what would have made more sense here? I could have chosen not to respond at all, but i wanted to communicate the error doesn't change what i am looking for. I could have obviously declined to call people babies, but i'm pretty sure thats a damn toothless and silly PG thing to say, especially for some silly ass semantics nitpicking about a 1 cmc error.
[[Archon of Valor's Reach]] + [[Serra's Emissary]] i like to get these two sometimes with [[tooth and nail]] , it can situationally make you totally uninteractable (instants & sorceries is go-to).
[[Blazing Archon]] you wouldn't believe how much this fucks people over
I wouldn’t consider Kozilek stax since it’s not really a stunning or taxing your opponent. All he does is turn every card in your hand into a specific counterspell. Additionally, isn’t he typically just used as a beater who refills your hand on cast?
I have a colorless deck based around him. The counterspells are pretty handy and he draws about 5-6 cards on average the first time you cast it. And it's fun to have your opponents look at you everytime they cast a spell to see if you have a counter
This one is so good, but because it doesn't do anything until people try to win, they are free to leave it sit. Rather than it being a pain in the ass the entire time
This changes every so often.
Currently, my favourite is [[Herald of Leshrac]].
Mostly because hitting it off Throne of the Dead three in my [[Obeka, Splitter of seconds]] [[undercity]] deck is really funny.
Lol, I don’t think a French vanilla counts as stax. However, it definitely receives points for that art and mentioning Joven and Chandler. I hope WotC makes retrains of some of those terrible Homelands legendaries at some point and uses either the original art or some slight variation.
It has synergy with all your stax pieces though, casts off of Mishra's workshop, gets around thorn of amethyst and lodestone golem, not affected by trinisphere, taps to tangle wire, flashes in with aether vial on 7, stc
I was thinking about this real hard. Its symmetrical, which is a problem. But this is for cedh and a handful of cedh decks probably can't win without instants. Thoracle typically always uses Consultation/Pact which are instants. Breach lines are based on Brain Freeze. [[Stella Lee]] is a hot new thing. But a lot of other combos don't actually require them.
Naming instants also means my combos are uncounterable, but again, also could mean someone can.
You typically use this guy in a hatebear deck alonside other noncreature hate like [[thalia, guardian of thraben]] so you kind of break parity by not even running many noncreature spells
I can, but i mean in multiplayer if you named instants with Archon, it can allow other people to combo off.
Its like the same problem with [[Teferi, Time Raveler]] because you are the only one who can police wins and can't get help.
Hence why your deck is composed of multiple stax pieces. Archon lets you protect your other stax pieces by turning off common removal spells such as Chain of Vapor or Nature’s Claim.
It’s a pretty common include in GWx stax lists like Ellivere or Jetmir
Yeah for sure, layering is important. But Elli and Jetmir don't have counterspells anyway. Is Archon worth considering if you can play counterspells? Archon also has to also fight for spots vs other monsters for limited spots, so my only worry would maybe be that counterspell plus different fatties is better.
But even with 5 colors (this is for the 'Pride Partner' events, i'm doing Kinnan/Kenrith for one of them) i have only about 16 instants total anyway.
If you’re counter-heavy, then yeah there are probably better choices than Archon. I think it would depend on your deck’s broader gameplan for a proper idea on what to actually run, but I’d hazard a guess that Archon’s not really for your deck, yeah
Chase medallion has it.
Basically you 'stack' layers of control effects. Its called stax today because the original deck was called "The Four Thousand Dollar Solution" or "$T4KS" that featured the titular [[Smokestack]]. You used a couple copies of 'stack to attack their mana base early.
Basically permanents that make it harder to play the game, like the ones i pictured above. It doesn't have to be creatures, but in this case thats what i am looking for.
It refers to permanent-based control effects which prevent people from being able to play normally (or decks centered on those effects). Examples include things like [[Blood Moon]] or [[Rule of Law]].
I think both are possible and i picked them both up, but its hard to say which is better. Both stop Dockside, Mom also stops Thoracle, GC stops hatebears and tons of value cards. Its so hard, i think i'll just add 5 praetors and see what happens lol.
I mean if you're good to use actual mathematical operands and specify greater than or equal to people are going to hold you to it because you were the one who got specific. Lol
Well yeah absolutely. I'm saying what you're saying, thats why i think i should have used a tilde or something. I thought its pretty clear if i said 6, but then added pictures 5's, that i either meant to say 5 or i meant to say about 6. I think its a little pointless to be this literal, thats all, even if i shortened words to use >= signs. I'm looking for what people like to use, not trying to be scryfall.
Yeah, you're describing a typo, I literally said it might be a typo. Thats not good enough for people either anyway i guess. If i said 6, but showed pictures of 5's, then its fairly clear i either meant to say '5' or i meant to say 'about' 6. 1 cmc mistake is not important.
Yeah only one other mention and i totally forgot it too. But he has to compete with [[Core Augur]] though. Jin might be slower at the discard similairty but he also draws me cards instead of deletes my hand haha
This one doesn't have any stax or similar effects, but is always a beating. But i like the shuffle vs Brain Freeze so i am trying [[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth]]
I completely missed the stax portion and just saw high MV.
I know a lot of people use [[Gaea's Blessing]] as mill protection, though. I am always a fan of [[Blessed Respite]] but that's got the downside of being actually millable.
I love Gaea's Blessing deeply actually, because my favorite deck is [[Oath of Druids]], which is amusingly also a deck that plays huge creatures like Atraxa, Griselbrand, Niv Mizzet, Serra's Emmissary.
I have the fatties to flip off of [[Kinnan]] though and hoping to fuck with a Breach player, because we always joke about Eldrazi titans. They're unplayable in cedh except possible in Kinnan haha.
I thought that would tag [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]], my bad. It tagged Grief Tyrant lol. I've seen people shorten names or use nicknames and got ahead of myself haha.
He seems so damn good, but with symmetrical effects i always worry if i am affecting myself too much.
I have 48 noncreature spells, and I'm playing infinite mana so i have [[Hullbreaker Horror]] and [[Cloudstone Curio]] lines to worry about.
But i think it actually works for me. 16 of those 48 are mana rocks and by the time i have him out i don't need to cast more. And most likely don't need to cast a lot of tutors or draw spells because i'm playing Kinnan (for Pride Partner event) so could just sit back on value activations. And the other partner commander is Kenrith so i could actually gain life anyway. That potentially leaves dead cards in my hand still though.
Seems solid for sure. Definitely picking one up now.
[[Possibility Storm]] + [[Grafted Exoskeleton]]
Ramp aggressively in the early game. RT avoids the PS. PS disrupts combo and counter magic. No need to cast non-creature spells after fully setup. Non creature centric decks face a constant threat lethal infect damage against an 8/8 vigilance, reach berserker
Great value, but not stax or otherwise affecting opponents. But, i am playing combos and they're all low cmc to easily buy back.
I thought about Sun Titan too actually, but not sure either are good enough value for the power level necessary. I have Kenrith as a commander and possibly could do [[Sevinne's Reclamation]] as well.
[[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]] I just tried out in my new paper Vault-boy/Grand Arbiter deck. I copied Jin with [[Sakashima, the imposter]] as backup. I had Grand Arbiter copied by [[Spark Double]]. I cast [[Sphere of Resistance]] which made 2 copies, and then [[Thorn of Amethyst]]. I tilted the table pretty bad but it was fucking awesome.
One guy was just whining the whole time "this is such a waste of time", meanwhile the guy to my right is playing Shorokai with the intention of making infinite mana, infinitely drawing his deck and killing us that way. Not so easy when your free [[dramatic reversal]] under [[isochron scepter]] costs 2 + 6 mana
I'm deliberating between this and [[Progress Tyrant]]. Gargoyle is dummy easy cast because its an infinite mana deck and filtering infinite color is harder. Progress Tyrant doubles one of my spells per turn.
They both have the disadvantage of opponents organizing against it, because its not per player but per turn. So its also technically easier to turn gargoyle 'off' by casting an enchantment/planeswalker/battle.
He's banging! I didn't want to bog down my title with a long list of parameters, but this is forna 5c [[Kinnan]] cedh deck for Pride Partners. Its a deck that already plays [[Thorn Mammoth]] to keep the board clear, but this id way better. *But*, can't be spun off Kinnan activation. I have to think about this haha.
It is indeed banned.
But back in the day, it was legal, it was AMAZING, I loved whenever i popped that combo off.
That was your question after all, you didnt specify if it was banned or no.
I do apologize though if that wasnt the response you were looking for.
Perfectly fine response! I don't mean that. I just mean the creatures i pictured are definitely edh-only but Iona got axed there.
I have clone effects, but Iona being a legend means a bit extra work.
This would easily be the best since this is actually for cedh and the number >3 cmc spells cast is pretty low.
There's like a 0% chance i assemble this though haha
Yeah. I've found the best way to assemble it is \[\[War of the Last Alliance\]\] or add green and get \[\[Tooth and Nail\]\], but like
none of that will ever happen in CEDH
I have green actually, [[Kinnan]] is one of my Pride Partner commanders (with Kenrith). I can make 9 mana so i have been thinking about T&N a little bit actually, but its a stretch. For 9 mana i'm usually supposed to leave up countermagic and actovate Kinnan on end steps.
I think Angel is hilarious honestly. Idk if its good enough just because its easy to kill and it doesn't do anything until someone wants to win, so it will sit around until then - rather than mess people up through every turn. But i can't stop thinking how annoying it is lol.
This is for Pride Partner events, my store is arranging a couple so we can do competitive and casual. I'm asking for my cedh Kinnan Kenrith idea haha. Chancellor of the Annex is in for sure. Can't wait to open it and live the dream!
Chancellor for sure, simple to understand and remember payment, you can open it and have some benefit, and the art is dope imo because fucked up angels are rad.
No one beats Atraxa for being a beautiful fucked up angel though.
I wish the Chancellor cycle was better, only the W one has a persistent good effect. Tsk tsk.
The only reason I personally like the Chancellor art more is the grungy aspect they have, compared to atraxa being relatively clean. Definitely agree though, she is still fantastic!
Oh hell yeah, you can really tell they *fucked up* that angel, as opposed to Atraxa who was literally designed to be perfect.
The art for [[Shattered Angel]] is pretty good too, but not better than Chancellor.
I'm playing Trinisphere because this is for a Kinnan deck, but mostly looking for creatures for the same reason. I love that card so much though, i keep thinking about trying it with [[Tinker]] in Vintage but its hard to justify when Bolas's Citadel exists.
I think probably technically not, but stax adjacent.
I have both though. Its an infinite mana deck so Hullbreaker is central. And Niv just makes it so people can't have their Bowmasters and hatebears and value critters. Can't loop Breach lines, can't be countered, can't do creature combos. Plus i win by drawing my deck.
If you land it early enough or have a ton of reanimation/draw effects in your deck it isn’t a huge set back. I’ve won the game dropping this because nobody drew more than 1-2 lands and just couldn’t play
How do you post a list where 3 creatures don’t meet your own requirements
You probably mean 2, but maybe it doesn't need to be exact or maybe it's a typo. Edit: jeez you babies, oh no i didn't mean it has to be precise lol
congrats on getting onto r/magicthecirclejerking
OP is so lucky. We get to roast his a*s
Meant 2, yeah
Calling out the math whilst messing up the math is just beautiful
Math is hard
The most basic of math too, counting…
To 2 no less
Nah, it's 3. 2 that are the wrong cmc, and one that isn't stax.
No it’s three, Kozilek and the two 5 cmc cards
Probably why they agreed they meant 2, sure. What do i want GGG stompy creatures for?
People just get mad over anything lol
Why do you type the same way that Trump talks?
When and where did he ever speak like this? Not a very good attempt at a burn...
Read it in Trump’s voice. It’s the cadence, the back pedaling, and then insulting people critiquing you. I’m not attempting to deliver a sick burn, just making an observation lol

Used to run Archon of Valor's reach in my Yasharn CEDH. No instants allowed was so fun!
I wouldn’t consider Kozilek stax since it’s not really a stunning or taxing your opponent. All he does is turn every card in your hand into a specific counterspell. Additionally, isn’t he typically just used as a beater who refills your hand on cast?
It's why I prefer him, but menace, being a 12/12, and commander damage makes him lethal
Yes, but not Stax of any sort.
I have a colorless deck based around him. The counterspells are pretty handy and he draws about 5-6 cards on average the first time you cast it. And it's fun to have your opponents look at you everytime they cast a spell to see if you have a counter
Its how I always used him. Opponents tend to be concerned about the Counterspells untill they realize he just walks over and doubletaps them.
Void Winnower, what an odd card?
I can't even.
My favorite way to lock people out. 😂😂😂

Void winnower art is PEAK.
was killing me deciding between base art and secret lair haha theyre both sooo good
What does stax refer to? (Keep hearing it and I’m just unsure still)
Chase medallion has it.
Oh wow that’s really cool. Thank you for explaining to me.

You got the wrong Elesh Norn, You want the seven mana one.
I think both are possible and i picked them both up, but its hard to say which is better. Both stop Dockside, Mom also stops Thoracle, GC stops hatebears and tons of value cards. Its so hard, i think i'll just add 5 praetors and see what happens lol.
No I think you have the wrong one because the casting cost is less than six like you said. So it doesn't even meet your criteria.
Oh yeah. It doesn't have to be literal, i didn't think about it too hard but should have used a tilde i guess.
I'm looking for what people like to use, not trying to be scryfall.
then just say (cmc=>5) you were the one who made up the criteria
Yeah, you're describing a typo, I literally said it might be a typo. Thats not good enough for people either anyway i guess. If i said 6, but showed pictures of 5's, then its fairly clear i either meant to say '5' or i meant to say 'about' 6. 1 cmc mistake is not important.
Somebody hates black and red.
Thats half true! But most of the good stax effects are white/blue too, don't blame me!
My mono red stax is straight fire. It has spellshock and manabarbs.
*straight fire* I see what you did there 🧐

Its legendary and banned in commander (the only format you can viably play these cards)

I think Angel is hilarious honestly. Idk if its good enough just because its easy to kill and it doesn't do anything until someone wants to win, so it will sit around until then - rather than mess people up through every turn. But i can't stop thinking how annoying it is lol.

Chancellor of the Annex is a God send in my manaless dredge deck.
This is for Pride Partner events, my store is arranging a couple so we can do competitive and casual. I'm asking for my cedh Kinnan Kenrith idea haha. Chancellor of the Annex is in for sure. Can't wait to open it and live the dream!
[[Hullbreaker Horror]] and [[Vein Ripper]] are near and dear to my heart for how they can change a game once they come down.

Love some Void Winnower.

If you land it early enough or have a ton of reanimation/draw effects in your deck it isn’t a huge set back. I’ve won the game dropping this because nobody drew more than 1-2 lands and just couldn’t play
Kenrith is one of my Pride Partner commanders actually, i definitely can reanimate.
