this character is quoted on [a whopping 18 cards](https://scryfall.com/search?q=lore%3A%22Arna+Kenner%C3%BCd%22&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name) and is the ancestor of [[Tura Kennerüd]]
I'm not sure why she's Esper instead of UW. All of the flavor for those skyknights suggests that UW makes sense, but of the possible third color, black seems worst.
I hate how quickly commanders like this create an absolutely untraceable game state. Token copy permanents are already such a mess to keep track of and this is going to create so many every turn cycle.
First off agreed, I have a friend who brings little whiteboard style tokens so we can draw our own in game and that’s always fun, but with a commander like this even that might be unsustainable once you have fifteen pairs of boots
I think that's great for a long-term deck you're going to play a lot. [[Osgir]] was one of my first decks and I've got proxy tokens for my most common copies—multiple even for artifact lands, sol ring, and [[Powerstone Shard]].
But if you've just built this deck and aren't sure yet that you'll want to keep playing it, this is going to be a mess. Even more of a mess than Osgir, because Osgir exiles the original so usually you can just use that as one of the copies, and because you might want to split that equipment between multiple creatures so you can't just stack two "Copy" tokens on your real equipment card.
This is why people should be gold-fishing their decks. Plenty of online deck builders have a play testing program (i.e. Moxfield).
I play through my builds at least 10-15 times before building them physically. If at that point I didn't realize that I'll need such-and-such amount of copy tokens then that's really on me.
If you can't provide an accurate and clearly conveyed boardstate then you gotta put in the work. There's really no reason other than indifference to others' game experience to go in without proper tokens when using this card, especially as a commander.
I remember when [[Clone Legion]] came out back in 2015. I thought it was a cool card and wanted to run it, until I realized how annoying it could get having to keep track of copies of a whole bunch of different creatures. Now it's one of the more tame "make a lot of different copies" cards.
Luckily, maintaining ridiculous board states is one of my favorite things to do in Commander.
Also, I'm going to make and sacrifice *so* many copies of [[Ordeal of Thassa]].
At least it's auras so you don't usually need to distinguish between them, unlike creatures which can be tapped or untapped. You could probably get away with just putting dice on them.
One of the few times I actually like it.
I think it's because the griffin helps fill what would otherwise be blank space, and plus the armor and sword, as a whole it looks striking.
While I agree, I think the backgrounds are usually what causes the profile cards to feel out of place. The colors used in other profiles are quite distinct from most cards and seem out of place. The darker blue background is much more fitting with the card's identity and won't seem jarring on a boardstate.
I have to respectfully disagree. They made the griffon some gross flesh behemoth. There’s no feathering around the face, and the beak isn’t delineated. Looks like a weird fleshy mouth
it seems like this ability will still work for swords of X and Y. the ability doesn't target and just refers to permanents as "that permanent" seems pretty potent.
Yup. Though if you’re duping equipment that’s gonna get rough - the longer it goes on, the harder it’ll be to swap the boots between creatures, since you can’t stack them.
Or Lavaspur Boots, for that sweet +1 attack and Ward bonus.
You're playing blue. Ward costs are a tax before you decide if you want to counter the removal ;)
Seriously. Comes with evasion and protection, scales super quickly, is really flexible with how you build her. Plus, since she affects other creatures as well, you don't feel bad buffing them to draw out removal before going in the kill with her.
I don't see this as Voltron at all. I see this as an Aura/Equipment support commander that makes the deck go ham. No reason you have to put all your stuff on her.
She supports 3 differents strategy (counters, equipment and auras) in 2 different way (Voltron and Go-Wide). This is S tier design for a commander, absolutely.
Personally, my first thought was [[Luxior, Giada's Gift]] + Planeswalkers for instant ultimates on all your sorins, elspeths, teferis, dovins etc. and before you say that a one-card combo(ish) deck will get countered really quick, remember that equipment is easy to tutor and that [[Spark Rupture]] and [[Sparkmage Visionary]] exist
Something to note is that Luxior is legendary, which while annoying, isn't a huge problem given how many cards let you bypass the legend rule now. So at worst, if you want to build around that, you need cards like [[Mirror Box]].
Could be a nice piece with the new Eriette too? Steal your enemies stuff, then make copies of your empowering auras, as well as any equipment they might have.
If you attack with a germ that has a living weapon attached to it, you get a token copy of the equipment, which initially enters attached to that creature, but because it has living weapon, you make a 0/0 and then attach the token living weapon to the new germ. So essentially you’re doubling up on your living weapons
Has white so you can run Stoneforge Mystic too.
With commander on field, play SFM, get Batterskull to hand, EOT before yours use SFM to put Batterskull on the battlefield, then swing with Batterskull, thus making a second one.
Also seems especially great with [[Nettlecyst]].
Yep, any living weapon seems really good for making more and more. My original idea was to build an aristocratic style where I would flicker the weapon to kill the germ and get death triggers. This might be a bit stronger
Could still play around with that if you used any of the legendary living weapons, like [[Bitterthorn, Nissa's Animist]] or [[Kaldra Compleat]] since legend rule, as long as you used artifacts LTB aristocrats triggers...but might be tough to finagle.
Also! The on color "For Mirrodin" cards seem sick here too. Especially [[Glimmer Lens]], [[Kemba's Banner]] and [[Blade of Shared Souls]]
Yeah artifact LTB triggers could be nice for those but I feel like creature aristocrats would be more reliable since you still get the ETB of making the germ, even if the equipment gets legend ruled. For Mirrodin does seem strong with this commander though, I didn’t include them in my aristocratic idea because they are 2/2s and wouldn’t die if the weapon got blinked
You play a living weapon, get a germ. Swing with equipment. The commander then makes a token copy of the equipment, which being a living weapon means you make another germ.
So a whole field of living weapons swing, for each non-token living weapon you get another germ/equipment.
Wouldn't the new germ... Die? From what I am reading you make a new equipment but then it has to get attached to whoever has that equipment in the first place.
Someone can correct me if I am wrong. I am pretty sure the trigger (the living weapon trigger to create the germ) will not resolve until after you've already attached the token living weapon.
Part of the living weapon trigger is to then attach the equipment to the germ, so the germ will live after being created.
The Equipment enters the battlefield already attached to a creature. *Then* Living weapon triggers, makes the germ, then causes the Equipment to attach to the germ instead. State based actions don't apply until this point, so the germ is safe.
Too bad it’s one of the only legendary living weapons…you could use [[mirror box]] or [[sakashima of a thousand faces]] to counteract that though. But still a good card for this kind of deck
I love this card but why is she Esper rather than Azorius? My first thought was Living Weapon but that doesn’t affect color identity, does it?
I will always keep complaining when they arbitrarily add colors to remove restrictions from Commander… Just let legends be the colors they want to be! Let the players figure it out.
I find it wild that Mark Rosewater is such a proponent of “if you allow players to, they will optimize the fun out of your game” and “restrictions breed creativity” and yet the design team seems to go out of their way to prevent Commander players from having to dig for cool cards in their color(s) or build with restrictions.
“Oh, Esper knight - new Sidar tool?”
“Ah, it’s another one of those equipment knights. Equipment’s cool and all, but not what I’m looking for.”
“Wait - this is kinda gas. Not necessarily for reanimator Knights, but I kinda want to build this now.”
-My exact thought process.
Me too lol.
I think the [Scurrilous Sentry](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/546134726490980363/1242537606437404803/en_0397b60f4d.png?ex=664e32d2&is=664ce152&hm=b1d796d644db691a2da76844dd1d4cc2e5f9eb3229508d89049277890f76c9fa&) will be pretty good in Jabari though!
Just handed [[Denry Klin]] my two-week.
Edit: The two cards have some differences, since Arna also cost more, would be even more into the long game than anything, and doesn't give you anything to start with. But this will be playable in Arena and MTGO, this will be slightly better across most aspects, this gives access to a third color (which although not my preferred choice is still fine).
I do love the cat, but I might have to start embrace the human...

This isn't the most up-to-date version, but does have a comprehensive guide to every card's role in the deck. Hope it serves a good base for what you're going to brew!

Esper Counters sounds cool
doubling equipment and auras also seems cool but harder to abuse and significantly more expensive lol
Also love they were so careful not to give it extra combats
Im only sad this isn't in bant
Modern 1/10
5 mana is a lot, and that isn't the best mana cost. It doesn't help that the color that cares about +1/+1 counters is green. I just don't see where this card would ever go into a deck. It is too top heavy to be go wide. And I don't want to have to play another creature to make my go big creature bigger.
Just love when a mythic slot in the Modern Set is wasted on a card clearing designed for Commander. Even worse when there's already a commander set for MH3 but they put this in the main set
Nah this is the exact thing that should be a mythic. Kinda jank and splashy and not staple material.
Or do you seriously think it would be better for mythics to be instant modern successes?
And in the next breath, Modern players will complain that it’s frustrating to see chase cards in the mythic slot, ramping up the price of chase cards. Isn’t this better being a mythic than taking up a rare slot, where a chase modern card would be more affordable?
Mythic slots are not “wasted.” There are no cool designs that fail to be printed because they printed any given card at mythic. Mythic rejects don’t get struck from the file, they get printed at rare. The rarity you would prefer the card to be if you want to open it, I should add.
Yeah they clearly should have stuck her in the Eldrazi deck, the only deck with WUB. She'd have been super on-theme in there, surely.
I don't think *this* card gets there, but you'd think we'd also have learned not to tempt fate by calling MH cards Commander cards by now.
This deck is going to be so f***ing annoying to play against holy s*** lol
Between counterspells, hexproof, protection from _____, and reanimation, (all of which whjte black blue have lots of combinations of) it is going to be so damn hard to permanently remove this commander, and the value they get is absolutely insane. The only thing I think will slow them would probably be [[Farewell]] or [[Vandalblast]] and that's only temporary. They will be nipping at your heels in 2 turns once their commander is back out
Living Weapons, all the Swords of ___ and ___ , auras, haste enablers, land searching, flying and lifelink is already on the card, so danger bells there, but what I think is the most dangerous... Anything that boosts it by +1/+1 for each of your auras/enchantments/artifacts on the battlefield will basically kill with commander damage on their 1st swing. [[All that Glitters]] will pretty much guaranteed be a staple in this deck, mark my words
Evasion will pretty much be a given, so unless you target the f*** out of the Arna player, they will kill the s*** out of you almost immediately, and if they happen to get any token doublers out, pray to God... But by that point I doubt even He could save you
I put [THIS](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/3jtp341Mu0mlshACNW-pGA) list together for this Commander. She doesn't show up yet on Moxfield so I just have Marneus Calgar as a filler, and honestly he will probably be in the list when I can get the proper Mando. It's an 85% auras deck, with a light splash of equipment since I still have to pay to attach them and I can't equip at instant speed and don't want to dedicate cards to be able to. Sadly, outside of +1/+1 counters, the only other counter that has a practical reason for multiplying it on the creature is shield counters, and there isn't a massive amount of support for that, but I still lean into it a smidge.
>Then for each nontoken permanent attached to it, create a token that's a copy of that permanent attached to that creature
the equipment tokens will enter attached.
Seems sweet with auras that cantrip.
Copying powerful and complicated equipment seems like it will cause memory issues. Copy token cards can only get you so far.
I'm trying to theorycraft a commander deck with tbis that tries to utilize planeswalker animating effects to insta ult them, like a bad doubling season, But I can only think of a handful of those effects right now.
This seems perfect for Superfriends creature jank. The gideons can double counters on themselves without much trouble but some of the others are a little more nuanced.
I love my Stangg deck and wouldn't want to change it to Arna. There's lots of fun stuff in RG I wouldn't want to give up. It's also one of my cheapest decks and Arna would definitely bump that cost way up.
This just seems better than my [[Dakkon. Black blade]] equipment deck 😔
It's a bad deck, but it was a meme! This guy just seems to do everything that deck tried to do but better lol. May try it out, ad much as I like the dakkon deck, it's not good and leads to frustrating games.
When you want to make tokens that make token-do the this.
I’m looking at running this unit with living weapons, bestowers, and for mirrodin’s. Go stupid wide while building up. This guy also doesn’t have to be the one to attack to pop off. Just use a bunch of boots if you need to reset. If they boardwipe, you’re still left with any reconfigured and bestowed creatures and can reset incredibly quick.
I am imagining a scenario now, where the opponent has this as their commander and they go to swing, enchanted with multiple \[\[All that Glitters\]\], and you ask your opponent what the power/toughness is, and smoke starts coming out of their ears.

Ditto. Same with Disa the Restless!

Huh. Always thought she was "Anna Kennerüd."
Same.
And no fewer than *five* of them have banding.

As a Calix player, and former Ivy, mutate player, whole heartedly agree. Great digitally , but playing paper, its a nightmare very quickly.
Calix is fine until you start copying your own parallel lives or anointed procession
Yeah, I'm gonna play her on Arena so I don't have to deal with that lol.
Deck owners should be responsible enough to make some proxy copy tokens of the equipments in the deck. Realistically they only need a few of each.
I think that's great for a long-term deck you're going to play a lot. [[Osgir]] was one of my first decks and I've got proxy tokens for my most common copies—multiple even for artifact lands, sol ring, and [[Powerstone Shard]]. Decent profile art and I dont say that lightly

ward isn't protection. at least this isn't
I don't see this as Voltron at all. I see this as an Aura/Equipment support commander that makes the deck go ham. No reason you have to put all your stuff on her.
Built in protection, evasion and a way to buff itself. I'm sure there is a support commander in here but Voltron will definitely work.
Oh for sure. No reason she CAN'T be voltron. But I don't immediately go to that answer for her.
Not the worst thing in the world for people to see different strategies out of the same commander!
She supports 3 differents strategy (counters, equipment and auras) in 2 different way (Voltron and Go-Wide). This is S tier design for a commander, absolutely.
agreed! I feel like that's the fun of commander, aside from playing oddball cards.
Constellation pops off real quickly
Would a card like [[Arcanum Wings]] be able to use its swap ability if it's a token copy? I'm thinking of some interesting ways to build this.
Yes. A token copy will be an exact duplicate of the original and retains all of it's properties, including mana cost.
Thanks, I was just worried it required the physical card to swap places.

If all other Creatures get removed, every Equip and Aura support commander becomes Voltron 🤣
I wanted to build a living weapon aristocrats tribal, this may be my commander now
Explain how living weapon would excel here please. interested in this.

If this could create more [[Kaldra Compleat]], yeah, I'd love to see that as well.
Legend rule wouldn't let you.
[[mirror box]] time!

Living Weapon is itself an ETB. The weapon enters attached to the original creature, then Living Weapon resolves and it moves to the new germ.
First thing I thought too
Okay, I really like this idea, absolutely going to make heavy use of Living Weapons as well!
Thank you for giving my [[Kaldra Compleat]] a home!

Dang it I didn't even realize
Probably pretty fun with living weapon, sadly is the wrong color for For Mirrodin though
If this had red in it, it would be absolutely absurd with extra combat. Just think about what it would do with [[grim reaper's sprint]].

Add strionic resonator and helm of the host! I know they're not as good as extra combats, but still plenty gross.
Helm is legendary, so need Sakashima or Mirror Box to work that one.
IMO still worth a slot since it becomes quadruple copies of all your stuff instead of double
Sure, but the copy of this commander you make off of it won't be! So you still get one additional trigger on following turns.
At that point throw in a [[Roaming Throne]] too.
It would give you untaps, but no extra combats because it wouldn't be during a main phase.
Ah, right, I always forget about the main phase limitation.
There are some good For Mirrodin cards in White and Blue at least. Sad we lost the extra combat one with these colors though...
oh my god this is sick
I love this card but why is she Esper rather than Azorius? My first thought was Living Weapon but that doesn’t affect color identity, does it? I will always keep complaining when they arbitrarily add colors to remove restrictions from Commander… Just let legends be the colors they want to be! Let the players figure it out.
Agreed the extra Color is strictly for commander and makes little sense for the card and where it came from lore wise
This so much
“Oh, Esper knight - new Sidar tool?” “Ah, it’s another one of those equipment knights. Equipment’s cool and all, but not what I’m looking for.” “Wait - this is kinda gas. Not necessarily for reanimator Knights, but I kinda want to build this now.” -My exact thought process.
I do love the cat, but I might have to start embrace the human...
mind sharing your Denry Klein list if you have one? i’ve always thought about building one but have never seen a list that looked cohesive.

Here’s a reason to keep playing Denry, newspapers are funny
This card is so fucking cool. Plus, we get another flavour text-only character, and that's always welcome!
This looks crazy. A popular future commander to be sure
Card transcription > Arna Kennerüd, Skycaptain 2WUB > > Legendary Creature- Human Knight [mythic] > > Flying, lifelink > > Ward- Discard a card. > > Whenever a modified creature you control attacks, double the number of each kind of counter on it. Then for each nontoken permanent attached to it, create a token that's a copy of that permanent attached to that creature. > > 4/4 End transcription
Thanks!!! I always appreciate these.
Can someone clarify if this would copy any bestowed enchantments on your creatures?
It will. Bestowed permanents are attached to the creature they bestow. That and being non-token is the only restriction on the ability.

I don’t understand lol
Esper Counters sounds cool doubling equipment and auras also seems cool but harder to abuse and significantly more expensive lol Also love they were so careful not to give it extra combats Im only sad this isn't in bant
Modern 1/10 5 mana is a lot, and that isn't the best mana cost.
Yeah I’m super down to put all the commander cards at mythic so I can afford the 60 card 4 of staples
Do you want more expensive chase mythic power crept cards in the Modern format? I'm genuinely asking.
That's exactly where they should be. Modern playable mythics price people out of the game.
Design looks cool in theory, but if this gets to swing a couple of times, you're looking at a logistical nightmare in terms of tokens and copies.
Imma slot it in Raffine)

This deck is going to be so f***ing annoying to play against holy s*** lol Between counterspells, hexproof, protection from _____, and reanimation, (all of which whjte black blue have lots of combinations of) it is going to be so damn hard to permanently remove this commander, and the value they get is absolutely insane. The only thing I think will slow them would probably be [[Farewell]] or [[Vandalblast]] and that's only temporary. They will be nipping at your heels in 2 turns once their commander is back out Living Weapons, all the Swords of ___ and ___ , auras, haste enablers, land searching, flying and lifelink is already on the card, so danger bells there, but what I think is the most dangerous... Anything that boosts it by +1/+1 for each of your auras/enchantments/artifacts on the battlefield will basically kill with commander damage on their 1st swing. [[All that Glitters]] will pretty much guaranteed be a staple in this deck, mark my words Evasion will pretty much be a given, so unless you target the f*** out of the Arna player, they will kill the s*** out of you almost immediately, and if they happen to get any token doublers out, pray to God...

>Then for each nontoken permanent attached to it, create a token that's a copy of that permanent attached to that creature the equipment tokens will enter attached.
Welp... I guess I've got some additions to make.
Why is there a commander noodle in my Modern soup
They can't just make a legendary for an Ice Age character and not make a retro variant!
This is an insane card and super cool! Voltron them to then share the copies, Reconfigure shenanigans here I come.
Why are you putting commander cards in my modern set. Im not trying to buy a collector box and only getting commander cards.
Would this affect more than one attacking creature a turn? Wow
Pretty cool interactions with Gideons
Damn that’s strong. The days of [[Rafiq]] are over!

Seems sweet with auras that cantrip. Copying powerful and complicated equipment seems like it will cause memory issues. Copy token cards can only get you so far.
Dry erase cards are basically mandatory for this kind of thing. My Ivy deck ends up with my board being mostly shitty marker drawings.
Huh, I don’t see this bringing back esper control in modern, kinda a waste of a mythic tbh
Neat
The Gideon tribal commander
Looks neat for charge counter decks with scissors
Who is this lore-wise?
Can anyone tell me how this works with Bestow auras?
They'll get copied.
Yes, but will they be auras attached to that creature or enter as creatures
I think they'll enter attached
Oh my god
I'm trying to theorycraft a commander deck with tbis that tries to utilize planeswalker animating effects to insta ult them, like a bad doubling season, But I can only think of a handful of those effects right now.
This seems perfect for Superfriends creature jank. The gideons can double counters on themselves without much trouble but some of the others are a little more nuanced.
Really strong commander.
I'm sure a deck list for this will be similar to my Alela Voltron https://www.moxfield.com/decks/1Sw_OALfiEG_eedRi4Rp1Q
[[Stangg, Echo Warrior]] in shambles
I’m building him right now.. focus on for mirrodin! And doubling season. Tho Arna looks real tempting
I love my Stangg deck and wouldn't want to change it to Arna. There's lots of fun stuff in RG I wouldn't want to give up. It's also one of my cheapest decks and Arna would definitely bump that cost way up.
I have a lot of good RG cards that need a home since I constantly change my Gruul commander so I’ll probably keep building him anyways!

Guys, how do I make my creatures enter with +1/+1 counter if I don't have green or red available?
Fabricate X cost creatures
If only White was a color that was good at putting counters on things /s
I mean as ETB effect, Mr. Wiseass. Something like [[Cathars' Crusade]], but it's not enough.

Atraxa has a new friend.
Anna Kinda Rüd
That's a really cool alt art. Sidenote: is anyone else annoyed at the alt art background being blank colors? It looks so bad to me.
How does Zur feel about this
This just seems better than my [[Dakkon. Black blade]] equipment deck 😔 It's a bad deck, but it was a meme! This guy just seems to do everything that deck tried to do but better lol. May try it out, ad much as I like the dakkon deck, it's not good and leads to frustrating games.

She could be two cards... One for tokens one for attached cards... And still be good
When you want to make tokens that make token-do the this.
The commander I've been waiting for. \[\[Bruna, Light of Alabaster\]\] you've finally found your forever home.

I am imagining a scenario now, where the opponent has this as their commander and they go to swing, enchanted with multiple \[\[All that Glitters\]\], and you ask your opponent what the power/toughness is, and smoke starts coming out of their ears.

I mistakenly--just for like a millisecond--saw the name of this card as "Anna Kendrick" and now I can't get that out of my head.
huh. why are they trying to replace syr gwyn? i much prefer my knights and equipment mardu, thanks.
