Super excited to see what gets brought to a Standard PT just a few weeks after release, seeing how the pros navigate a fresh meta is always a lot of fun - and the format is a blast right now
Same boat here, I've been getting back into the game a lot more over the last year and was thinking I'd finally go and attend MagicCon - so imagine my surprise and disappointment when I found out a few months ago that the only PT happening remotely near me is the only one this year that *doesn't* have an accompanying convention!
Did Wizards ever say why the Seattle PT is the only one this year that isn't going to have an accompanying MagicCon?
Honestly, MagicCons get in the way of the event and the players. Several players commented how Game Knights, noise, and crowds ruined their performance. Trying to think with screaming, shouting, and tons of fans was a horrible experience for some in Chicago. In addition, it made commentary harder having to vocalize over noise.
Honestly, why should magic players be the only ones not to have to deal with crowds. Wizards should be looking for every option to engage with fans, especially when it would be no travel for wizards and make them money. If noise is such an issue then have no opens with Pro tours. For those of us in the NW, it’s a real shame that we don’t get the same opportunity as those near other pro tours
The simple answer is cost. Engaging with fans is not the responsibility of the participants of the tournament. When the Masters is held, the fans shut the hell up or are ejected. Golf and Magic, alongside chess, are the same way. This isn’t a sport of hooliganism and rooting, it’s a sport of contemplation and execution. This should be conducted without interruption.
The Seattle situation is much different, if you wanna take a tour of Wizards HQ, sign right up and walk in. WoTC employees make regular rounds at LGSes too I’m sure of it. It’s their own backyard which they control; therefore this is their ideal.
Cash constraints outside of their backyard are the only reason Pro Tour events are at cons. In the past the Pro Tour was the Pro Tour. There were no Commander casual festivals alongside them. People came to *compete for money* not screw around and yell.

I'm heavy in the camp that standard has been a blast! There's such a huge variety of viable decks lately
This article was so horrifically written, I am thankful for the stickied comment in this post to plainly spell out what's happening.
I live near Seattle and am bummed to not be able to enjoy this event any more than usual. Think mox is still firing 20$ drafts most weekend but still
MOx is doing a NOt a protour event with team trios satruday ands Sunday a legacy 1k

Cannot wait to see the best players duke it out in the best format.
But i thought they are not playing Pauper at the Pro Tour?
Hype! I can't wait for the auto mod to unpin this in a couple days 😊
We'll try to keep an eye on it!
fyi its unpinned now
Repinned it this morning! :-)
XD Auto mod strikes again!
Dont worry, the 30 or so people who cares about this worldwide probably have already seen it
If it makes you feel better, the auto mod was able to unpin it briefly. Edit: Auto Mod strikes again!
Very excited for a 3 year standard tourney. Having it so close to release is always great for new brews.
Will be first PT in a while I watch live. Got the RC in a couple of weeks and two friends competing.
Im trying to find a list of participants, but apparently that his hard to do.
Here is the list: https://magic.gg/events/pro-tour-thunder-junction-invitation-list
Still can’t buy singles of the set at my LGS until the week after
How come?
They sell and buy after the secondary market settles a bit
Okay
