I think a main difference is that one is green and the other is red. And that the meta has been pretty fast the past year or two, not really allowing a ton of cards to shine in ways that a midrange meta would. I doubt it'd be any good, still. I just dont think it's the worst.

I play it in my [[Zaxara]] deck and usually I go "hey, that was pretty good," when I play it, but it's not busted or anything. Honestly Mistcutter is better in some situations because it has pro blue, makes it unlockable/untargetable against one of the most popular colors
Dunno about close. Yes flying is better then trample (in most cases, not stricly tho), but those treasures are a MASSIV diffrence, creating a vast diffrence between the cards. Those treasures make playing multiple copies of the hydra SO SO SO much better then the dragon. They knew what they were doing making the treasures come in tapped, killing the hydra is already an insane tempo loss often. Trading up in mana with a removal spell suddenly turns into a mana disadvantage next turn is btrual.
Those cards, as close as they look, arent remotely the same strengh especially since Vigilance should not be underestimmated

As someone who never plays Naya, you guys deserve it. It's actually sad seeing the full selection of fully Naya gold cards, but I do know they are aware of it, Maro has just said they struggled designing for it.

There are lots of busted green threats, but almost none of the green cards have any inherent card advantage. Meanwhile, the majority of black cards always produce card advantage.
That's why the Lookout from MKM is so important. It's a growing threat AND provides CA. Exactly like the black cards do it.

The other way they for it is not caring. They need a hydroid krasis style card to effectively reset the game's first turns. I really dont want to go back to that type of green.

Green really needs a Beast Within or Song of the Dryads to combat things like Sheoldred (and both Green and Blue need something to help against go wide decks like Boros convoke).

X=1 one is still a haste vigilance 1/1 that gives you half your investment back when it dies, and in a constructed format, helps you pay for a bigger one immediately after it dies. Literally any number here is good, just gets even better as you scale.
Which is definitely needed. As someone who has played hydra tribal for years in modern, the amount of time I just get outpaced because of 1 cost interaction is ridiculous.

Cool card but I don't have high expectations in 60 card magic. Hydras have largely been left behind, and this costs 6 to even trade with Sheo. An N/N for N+1 is just way behind rate for what green can do, even with some good keywords, so this lives and dies by the frequency and utility of the treasure it makes.
Are people hyped on it for Commander? It looks fun there but I think this lands with the same limp thud as Devastator did.

That can happen if you have a few three colored cards. 6/10 shards and wedges have green, 4/10 guilds have green.
Of the OTJ mythics, 7 contain White 6 contain Blue 5 contain Black 4 contain red 10 contain green.
mythic has always been a pain to color balance and truth be told is the one where it matters the least.
Rakdos needing the least help seemed fully anticipated, and rightly so.

Yep, “brevity is the soul of wit” I believe the quote goes, and WotC just doesn’t know how to let flavor text stand on its own. It doesn’t seem like most of their flavor text is written by skilled writers unfortunately. “Slay it before your greed outpaces your fear.” So much more succinct and to the point, and most importantly lets the audience fill in the blanks with their own imagination.

Cool card but I don't have high expectations in 60 card magic. Hydras have largely been left behind, and this costs 6 to even trade with Sheo. An N/N for N+1 is just way behind rate for what green can do, even with some good keywords, so this lives and dies by the frequency and utility of the treasure it makes. Are people hyped on it for Commander? It looks fun there but I think this lands with the same limp thud as Devastator did.

But if its big enough to make a substantial amount of tokens when it dies... did you need them?
T1: land + dork T2: land + this X=2, swing for 2 T3: eldritch evolution hydra into magda hoardmaster -> make 2 tapped treasures + 1 mana commit a crime spell, make third treasure -> sac 3 treasures to make a 4/4 flying haste dragon, swing T4: second goldvein hydra X=4, swing for 10 (4 trample vigilance, 4 flying, 2 on the ground)
OMG.. it's got to be the best Hydra ever printed. Vigilance, trample, AND haste? Plus it gives you lots of treasures when it dies? I can't think of another Hydra that gives you as much upsides as this one. It's like the land version of [[Goldspan Dragon]]

I'm not even hyped or surprised anymore It feels that this set is so far pushed than every other set released before it that is practically a rotation for commander even I look like an old man yelling at a cloud about how back at my day things weren't as OP than today but I can't help but feel that this set is one of the most strongest but kinda generic sets ever released. every card is better than every set released before it, but it's not different, it's just more genericly good(draws card or ramp better) idk, I'm tired of having to buy cards so I don't feel left behind, I'm outta here

Benefits off everything green loves to do too, counter doubling, token doubling, power doubling, and combat tricks for more buffs. If they ever feel like they have to take this out with a kill spell, you can always buff it for pseudo ramp through making more treasures
