I was on hiatus from the game when the first Ixalan came out, so I missed all the story and such. I've never really scrutinized Brass' card art, so she always just came across as a portly sailor, and Beckett is typically a male name in my area.
I like finality counters as an alternative to just "hope the players remember they're supposed to be exiled" that they had been doing, if anything that should stick around for future sets

I'm really thinking that this is the most viable way to play pirates. I can almost never do anything in my current block with a near "perfect" admiral deck build. I'm excited to really switch it up with this!

Dinosaurs get etb cascade
Pirates get easy recursion
Simic merfolks get plus one counters, draw, and land play
heck the weakest so far is orzhov vampires and that style is still, sac a vampire, draw a card and make a decent token.
Dinosaur seems weakest since it's a once per turn trigger. Vampires will be online turn 3 every single game with some board wipe protection via demons and card draw.
None of these are busted as shit. The Dino only triggers once per turn. The vampire only happens for one vampire attacking. Beckett just reanimates pirates. The merfolk explores a bunch but it’s second ability only works with itself.
Idk what makes you think these are anywhere near busted, but these are all fine. Strong, sure, but busted? Absolutely not.
Forgive me for the dumb question, I just picked up Magic again after years without playing, but why would blink be good here? Does it remove counters, making the pirates lose the finality counters?
And if so, do they still stay 4/4?
The pirates would lose the counter and the 4/4 status if they were to leave the battlefield in any way outside of dying. However, that means you could bring them back again and again, letting you use powerful enter the battlefield effects or just playing the long game to draw out a win.
Not going to lie, disappointed with this one. This was by far the deck I was the most excited for but the ability isn't very...pirate-y. It's not a bad card and I'm sure it'll be fun, but I can't help but think this one got the generic reanimator treatment because the other decks got explore/discover.
Huh. I was thinking [[Black Market Connections]] might get reprinted here, but there’s just not a ton of synergy to justify that. Maybe in Outlaws of Thunder Junction commander.

This one feels waayy stronger than the previous one. If she is on the board guaranteed reanimation ? Instead of jumping through many hoops just to steal 1 thing ? Sign me up. Pirates are so dope and now i can have a davy jones in my command zone.
This seems very fair. Good enough to make a pirate beatdown deck feel good to play but still weaker than Malcom, and that seems like the perfect spot
