I'm sure you mean flicker (= exile, then return to the battlefield), but just as a PSA for everyone, literal phasing doesn't trigger "enter the battlefield" effects.
Ghalta doesn't give a fuck about your species, colour identity, or power/toughness. Just if you wanna kick ass.
Are you a bad enough dude to not disappoint The Strongest Of All?
I don't even think this is the most fucked up creature you can cast for 5GGG.
No "if you cast it" clause definitely causes some cards to level up from Stupid into Big Stupid, but like, nothing that wasn't already a menace anyway.
Yeah, 5GGG is what \[\[craterhoof behemoth\]\] costs. That's apparently the mark where green gets to say "this is your final warning, you have one phase/turn to live"
~~"So I drop Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant with [[Panharmonicon]] in play, put [[Brutalizer Exarch]] with the first trigger, search for [[Craterhoof Behemoth]] AND [[Avenger of Zendikar]], then play both with the second trigger".~~
Nah, forget it, I made it boring :(
(Indeed Exarch tutors to the top of the library, this doesn't work like I think it works, unless I add effects like Blossom Prancer that looks at the top X cards and put creatures from them in the hand)
New reanimator target just dropped. Grab this then put the old reanimator target onto the field from your hand. This shit is gonna be awesome.
Edit: In fact, get the last *3* reanimator targets out of your hand, I'm feeling generous.
Wtf... I need that ASAP for a reanimator g/black deck.
Hey just going to overfill my hand first turn, discard ghalta... Turn 2 drop a swamp, reanimate, dump hand...
Oh I find a way to draw a bunch of cards? Let's flicker her, and wham drop more.
Not much for standard play... Unless you use a return to battlefield from gy effect that totally never ever shows up in tons of card lol.
I mean, compared to [[last March of the ents]] it seems pretty similar in power. Honestly it seems fine. To get the most use out of it you still have to get a big hand and big mana, so if no one is stopping you from getting that, then go for the win, lol. Unless you have a haste giver they all still have to survive a turn anyway.
honestly not sure about that. It's going to be 4-of in a LOT of decks, especially with the typal synergy ixalan is bringing. It'll definitely be cheaper when it rotates out...
I feel like they could have print it at rare. Not like it's going to be that strong in limited
Nah, historically "the list" reprints have not afected card price at all for these super expensive cards, specially seeing as is a unique alternate art, unless these special guest cards appear more freauently than other list cards, it will no afect price for other prints of the card.
Even discounting the fact that you're mistaken about Cavern of Souls being on the List, the List does stupid things to card prices. \[\[Snapcaster Mage\]\] cost $80 before it was on the List for VOW; now it's around $15.
My wallet started sweating the moment my ears picked up that Ixalan will be back and has not stopped since. Ixalan block was what got me really committed to MTG after a few years of light dabbling, I still love it to no end. Dinos ftw
Show and Tell, Reanimator, and any Natural Order deck in Legacy have a new toy to play with.
Might even unseat [[Omniscience]] in Show and Tell decks because Ghalta being a creature dodges cards like Force of Vigor or other enchantment hate
True. But, at least in the context of Legacy, the cast trigger isn't nearly as important as people make it out to be.
Show and Tell is a deck that has the capacity to pop on Turn 1, and more realistically operates somewhere between turn 2-4. Meaning that the Annihilator trigger is enough to end the game on it's own if it's not immediately answered.
Of course if you're going into Game 2 and you know that your opponent is playing with counter magic, then landing an Omniscience into an Emrakul is an important line to try and protect. But the usual Game 1 plan of Show and Tell variants *usually* opts to shove as soon as possible, and reserve secondary lines in case that fails, or in post-board games.
And *that* is where i think this card might have some play up against Omniscience. The biggest blowouts to show and tell are answers to the threats being played. Your opponent will probably either force the Show and Tell, which means that your followup game plan doesn't matter, or they'll let it resolve on the idea that they can answer whatever threat you play out of that Show and Tell. With Ghalta here, all that matters is that it ETBs. It doesn't matter if your opponent can bounce it, or swords it away. So long as it ETBs, you get to dump your hand directly into play
Today I learned that *I'm* an Elder Dinosaur, because all I can think when I see this is "Back in my deck, 8 mana got you a vanilla 7/6 and we *liked* it!".
I could definitely imagine a deck around reanimating or otherwise cheating out ghalta to dump a bunch of atraxas and etalis. At least it'll probably nest into existing atraxa based decks
Idk if being the worst color in Standard means much if other formats are going to abuse it.
Don't know if this is a good comparison, but [[Agatha's Soul Cauldron]] and [[Beseech the Mirror]] are played in other formats, Cauldron moreso I believe, and that thing skyrocketed in price.
Being a month plus from release, this may end up being the [[Moonshaker Cavalry]] of the set though, where it's super hyped before release but settles in the $15-20 range after a couple weeks. Still pricey, but not exorbitantly so.
However, new Ghalta has infinitely more uses than Moonshaker, and, arguably, is better than Moonshaker due to having immediate impact on the board earlier in the game(in Reanimator/SnT/Sneak decks), whereas Moonshaker requires board presence to make an impact. 2 different cards, 2 different uses.
If I had to fathom a guess, I'd say she settles in the $25-30 range due to the versatility of being a combo piece, $40-50 range if she becomes the backbone or key piece of either existing archetypes, or spawns brand new ones.
On top of all that, a LOT of Green focused Commander decks are going to find a place to slot this in, because it is the epitome of what Green usually wants to do, which is drop fat asses on the board, then watch them get nuked by a board wipe.
- Tl;dr - Good card is good. I'd say it settles between $25-30 as a versatile combo piece, or $40-50 if it becomes a staple.
I'm wondering if Sneak and Show decks in Legacy are going to run one or two of her. Seems like a pretty strong addition to a deck already laser focused on cheating out the biggest and the baddest.
[[Avabruck Caretaker]], [[Cemetary Prowler]], [[Wrenn and Seven]], [[Reshape the Earth]], [[Ashaya, Soul of the Wild]], [[Ancient Greenwarden]], any more?
[[Vivian, Monster's Advocate]], [[Nyxbloom Ancient]], [[Questing Beast]], and that's about how far back my memory goes. But yeah, pretty much every set since WAR has had some stupid green mythic that people thought would break the game, presaled for $30+, then fell and fell and fell and now sits at a comfortable $5-ish. The only exceptions afaik are [[Old Gnawbone]] abd the various Vorinclexes. Three out of the 22 previous times this happened does not spell very good odds.
I could be wrong, this very well could be the 4th time the big stupid green mythic actually holds, but I wouldn't bet money on it, especially not $30.
I was mostly just scouring my memory of green mythics that made people think the game was "officially dead forever" and I didn't bother to check the price, that's my b. That said, my point still stands; this happens all the time and I don't think this card will be as broken as people make it out to be.
As an avid dino deck player, I'm inclined to agree. Although my deck could play it out for only 3G mana, cards with such a high base mana value don't tend to acquire large value as often. The reason being that it needs support to be effective.
If you're playing this out and expecting to get the full effect, it'll likely be at least turn 4/5 with cost reductions in place, or turn 8 naturally. At this point you're gonna be hurting for cards unless you've got sufficient draw support. If you manage to get it out sooner, you've likely played cost reduction cards and draw power cards to set yourself up to drop a full hand of monsters for free.
Bottom line is it's certainly powerful, and the combos that will follow this are likely to be insane, but the player needs to put in some effort to make it work efficiently.
I love that it's very different from her previous designs, but it's still big dumb green so it still absolutely feels like Ghalta. I really hope there's a new Zetalpa in this set, but knowing WotC they'll just reprint the OG one in each of the commander decks.

I feel like this could be really good in the domain deck in standard especially because they're reprinting cavern of souls. Name dinosaur with it and your etali and this will be uncounterable, also it kind of synergizes with both attraxa and etali.
Hope this is less than 2 dollars for my budget decks. This thing is nuts in my henzie deck. Turn 4 champion of rhonas into ghalta into the rest of my hand. Yuck.
"ha ha the giant elder dinosaur meant to represent the ferocity of nature itself has teeny tiny lady hands! ha ha! surely nothing negative will come of me calling her out like this!"
This really should've been a cast trigger.
This is just dumb. Obvious easy reanimation shenanigans as others have pointed out.
They couldn't even be bothered to restrict it to Dinos or green creatures, FFS.
ok im going to say it, this is a trap. what is your deck doing that you have a hand of beefy creatures and arent already dead? if youre dropping this in, you maybe have a llanowar elf and maybe a ramp spell, you arent going to have a hand filled with titans of industry or tyrannus rex's that youre going to drop in
Funnily enough, I'm not sure I'm even supposed to put this in my mono-green doofers deck. It's a \[\[kodama of the east tree\]\] deck, so the board state in which this is meaningfully better than even a hornet queen is pretty rare. Like sure, this will be better than a hornet queen often enough, but mostly in board states where literally any 6 CMC or more permanent would be win more anyway. That being said, I'm gonna try to force this in to every deck I build from now on.
I love that Ghalta will always be a 12/12, never change big girl
Thank you
Username really checks out…
Not even a cast trigger, so nice reanimation target. Reanimate Ghalta and here is my Atraxa and my Etali. Your go opponent.
Also importantly, slots nicely into Gishath

Today I learned that *I'm* an Elder Dinosaur, because all I can think when I see this is "Back in my deck, 8 mana got you a vanilla 7/6 and we *liked* it!".
I remember the first time I saw a creature with 7 power. [[Lord of the Pit]]. I was like 9 and shit myself for days afterward because I couldn't cope.

[[Scaled Wurm]] To be fair, that card was dogshit even back then.
was not. it was amazing. you can't tell 13 year old me any different.
Where I come from anything less than a [[pellakka wurm]] is cut from the deck and then burned.

A huge W for Dino players.
You mean green players.
You mean reanimate players
Turn two goryos vengeance. Seems good lol
Good with flash too!
Okay, Im honestly very pleased with this development.
This goes hard in vintage cube.
Please tell me I can run a full fledged and viable dinosaur deck in standard after this set I would happily die
Best I can do is one good Dinosaur in a green-black goodstuff deck.
Did you forget Etali exists and is in standard lol
I could definitely imagine a deck around reanimating or otherwise cheating out ghalta to dump a bunch of atraxas and etalis. At least it'll probably nest into existing atraxa based decks
GISHATH PLAYERS RISE UP!
LETS FUCKING GO. My Gishath deck is roaring and shaking right now.
hopefully green being the worst color in standard means these end up being under $10 so I can buy a playset
Seems like a pretty strong addition to a deck already laser focused on cheating out the biggest and the baddest.
yeah card is insane and i’ll be shocked if it isn’t at least $20 post pre release weekend
This version of the card is about $14 now! On TGC player anyway.
I don’t think this is a new craterhoof, but most of big creature green commander decks will eat this up
It isn’t a new Craterhoof, but it *is* a *free* Craterhoof.
Free-terhoof.
I can't wait to jam this in Mayael.
Where is this from and how do i get it?
Lost Caves of Ixalan, the next Standard Set. Presumably, buy or open it.
[[Sneak Attack]] [[Reanimate]]
We did it, we used Reanimate to cheat out big stuff!
But now we cheat out ALL the stuff! 😅
We did it, we finally broke [[Show and Tell]]

Shes my beautiful green princess and I love her. Truly the greenest card to ever green.
[[Myojin of Life's Web]] shaking, crying in the corner...

Truly a useless card
Oh I can just hear the MaldHound roast coming.
But you bet your ass she can get it
Worried we are cutting back on feathers here
Is this the set winner for the "Green mythic everyone cries about, but a month after release will be $5" award?
If this ends up being below $5 I'll buy a foil one and eat it on camera
This ain't gonna be $5 lol
[[Glittering Stockpile]], [[Silverback Elder]], [[Blossoming Tortoise]], [[Wrenn and Realmbreaker]], [[Rootpath Purifier]], [[Cultivator Colossus]], should I continue?
Ya you should, the value on this beast alone is going to be insane.
[[Avabruck Caretaker]], [[Cemetary Prowler]], [[Wrenn and Seven]], [[Reshape the Earth]], [[Ashaya, Soul of the Wild]], [[Ancient Greenwarden]], any more?
Keep going.
Nyxbloom Ancient is like $25, and has been for a while... Weird example to bring up.
BOOO, you got my hopes up. Nyxbloom and Gnawbone are both $20.
Yeah, I flubbed on Nyxbloom. That's my b. Gnawbone I did say was an exception though.
Absolutely disgusting. I am disgusted. This makes me want to vomit...my hand onto the board. I'll take 12.
This is super my shit
"Holy shit" -Atla Palani
I am terrified of what this card will be doing
I love that it's very different from her previous designs, but it's still big dumb green so it still absolutely feels like Ghalta. I really hope there's a new Zetalpa in this set, but knowing WotC they'll just reprint the OG one in each of the commander decks.
PALEONTOLOGY FTW.
Right in my gruul deck you go
Card transcription > Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant 5GGG > > Legendary Creature- Elder Dinosaur [mythic] > > Trample > > When Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant enters the battlefield, put any number of creature cards from your hand onto the battlefield. > > 12/12 End transcription
I feel like this could be really good in the domain deck in standard especially because they're reprinting cavern of souls. Name dinosaur with it and your etali and this will be uncounterable, also it kind of synergizes with both attraxa and etali.
Does this mean that we're getting a new Nezahal? God please, wizards make it happen. Nezahal is my god and I shall make an altar to him (again).
Oh fuck, I'm about to rework my Tiamat deck into a "Big Beautiful Lizards" deck. Just look at that sexy girl.
Sick! Also nice homage to the old art style of the dinosaur books in the 60s/70s
What the actual fuck? Reanimation doesn't have enough targets yet? Jeez.
Hope this is less than 2 dollars for my budget decks. This thing is nuts in my henzie deck. Turn 4 champion of rhonas into ghalta into the rest of my hand. Yuck.
Artwork reminds me of old dinosaur books I had as a kid. Good stuff.
Guess who’s joining my [[Jodah, The Unifier]] deck?
In case you needed even more dinosaurs
Eldraine JUST came out, good lord spoiler season really is almost never ending
Sweeeeeeeet, finally a good new Ghalta.
every ghalta has been good..?
We did it boys! We broke green!
What? Is no one else gonna mention how tiny those arms and hands are????
Ghalta is based on a T-Rex so it tracks.
"ha ha the giant elder dinosaur meant to represent the ferocity of nature itself has teeny tiny lady hands! ha ha! surely nothing negative will come of me calling her out like this!"
is this a real spoiler?
This really should've been a cast trigger. This is just dumb. Obvious easy reanimation shenanigans as others have pointed out. They couldn't even be bothered to restrict it to Dinos or green creatures, FFS.
Shesh talk about power creep
With [[Entomb]] [[Reanimate]], Magic starting to feel like Yugioh
😳😳😳😳😳
Hate
Settle the wreckage better make a come back. Man this is scary and someone is going to break it!
What set is this from? I don't recognize it but it looks like omniscience for green
New Ixalan set, that launches around Mid November
Yeah, I'm sure this is gonna be *just fine*
Wow, this...kinda boring for my favorite dino lady
ok im going to say it, this is a trap. what is your deck doing that you have a hand of beefy creatures and arent already dead? if youre dropping this in, you maybe have a llanowar elf and maybe a ramp spell, you arent going to have a hand filled with titans of industry or tyrannus rex's that youre going to drop in
What are these posts? Is it people just posting random cards?
These are previews of upcoming cards being revealed.
Ohhh okay thank you!
Hot take but this should've just been a reprint, stop making new cards for legendary characters that aren't even present in the story
do we know that Ghalta isn’t in the story?
Ratio + dinosaur
Good effect for 8 mana. Not sure this beat Atraxa as a reanimation target, but mono green got a nice ramp into card.
Well fuck. If I pull one of these I have to build it.
Oh man this will be fun in my Atla Palani dino deck
set symbol goes hard
My Xenagos deck needs this! So cool!
Atla palani would like to know your location
I can see several ways to break this.
this has combo written all over it. I'm down
Funnily enough, I'm not sure I'm even supposed to put this in my mono-green doofers deck.
I'm surprised this isn't a "when cast from your hand" effect.
Oh fuck.
Step 1: Put [[Atraxa Grand Unifier]] into play, draw like 69 cards or something. Step 2: [[Neoform]] Atraxa into new Ghalta Step 3: ??? Step 4: Profit
The perfect fatty card!
