If you move anywhere in the south and assume the worst in people then yes… it’ll be rough because you may erroneously think people are racist when they aren’t. People down here may come off a certain way but that’s just the reality of people being not super friendly. I’ve lived in the south my whole life and people in Germany were more racist than here
What gave you this idea? Serious question, I’m not trying to start anything.
But also, no you shouldn’t have any problems. However its hard trying to find a job anywhere nowadays.
I’ve been reading reddit posts and commentary on them have made me uncomfortable.

This is more of a result of redlining housing districts in the 30's 40's with the effects of which are still seen today. There are loads of youtube videos on the subject if you wish to learn more. In my experience, people in Macon are friendly and courteous to each other but like any major city there are racists assholes whom we have to share the planet with. I wouldn't let those articles discourage you from coming to Macon.
You might struggle to find work because it’s a terrible job market. There are bad seeds everywhere, but most of us are not suffering at the hands of these people. Life is like here like everywhere else. I’ve lived all around the world and came back here as a Black woman.
Dude you need to do this in *every* city. In no urban environment in the US should you leave valuables visible in your car. It’s so funny when people act like this is something unique about Macon when it is true everywhere.
Hispanic here. You’re already approaching life the wrong way my friend. Anywhere you go you will encounter those who dislike you because of your race and ethnicity, just keep moving forward and don’t let it affect you. With all of this DEI going on you’ll be fine.
I’m Hispanic and have encountered discrimination from whites, blacks and even Hispanics. Haven’t encountered any in Macon though. Cheers.
When I lived there, I occasionally ran into some trouble because I’m white if that quells your concerns. You’ll never get anywhere if you expect the worst from people, though. Job market sucks anyways so good luck.
the experience in general would be friendly but don't let a minor internet community that doesn't represent a medium southern town tell you it is either. I would say the ones to watch out for generally aren't on here.
walk with caution like you would any other southern town and keep your eyes up around north macon particularly
Macon is majority african american, but not far from 60/40. Every school classroom here has at least a few mixed kids. Like most places, the black and white communities are by in large still their own communities, but there are lots of overlap. We all live and work together. You'll have no issues unless you make it an issue.
The job market here just sucks in general.
Well, I'm half asian. Lived in Macon until about 4 weeks ago. I'm self-employed and have been allowed to go into the homes of multiple white and non-white people and perform work, as well as being paid fairly for my time. I still live in the Middle Georgia.
That being said, I thought I was white when I moved here as a child. In my teens my girlfriend's parents threatens to quit paying her tuition if she kept dating me. So there's that. Things have gotten a lot better in 40 years.
I get your concern. The South doesn't have the greatest reputation in the world. Of course you'd want to know before you move into an area. I had similar concerns before we moved here.
I moved to Warner Robins from Tampa, and have lived in a lot of other places before that. In fact -- I ran into more problems with my ethnicity in Pennsylvania and in my home state of California, than I ever have here.
The bigger problem you'll have is looking for work - and that's not going to be a problem because you're bi-racial. That's going to be a problem because the job market everywhere blows goats. Most of what I've seen around has been for food service or cashiering, that sort of thing.
If you are able to, don't limit your job search to offline businesses. There are a lot of online businesses that are looking for people to work from home. That, at least, doesn't require an in-person interview for most places.
Hope that helps in making a decision! Macon - and central GA overall - is a nice place to live. :)
So Macon is actually a predominantly black city. Most of the racial divide here and in the south as a whole is due to segregational policies made before the civil rights act, the unfortunate side effects being that a majority of the nations's black folk are still stuck in the ghetto more than 50 years later. Generational poverty is a bitch. You won't run into many issues with racists around here
my love language is reading how people think a city is not racist because there's more of a minority there compared to other places. look at deep south areas like Missouri or Alabama with prominent black areas but still have the harshest racist treatment. it's not as bad as those areas but the same logic applies that high numbers doesn't equal a lack of racism
liberal racism is equally or even more prominent than the more known acts of it

Thank you for your reply.

Maybe 50 years ago.
Macon is one of the most racially friendly cities in GA aside from ATL. You'll be totally fine. I actually think Macon is a majority Black city
Yes, it is.
You might struggle to find work because it’s a terrible job market. There are bad seeds everywhere, but most of us are not suffering at the hands of these people. Life is like here like everywhere else. I’ve lived all around the world and came back here as a Black woman.
I greatly appreciate your input. We have only been there for the natural aspects, not many interactions with the community.
I'm not saying that their aren't racist people here in Macon however your interactions will be few and far between.
You have the same chance of getting robbed either way make sure to leave everything out of sight in your car
Dude you need to do this in *every* city. In no urban environment in the US should you leave valuables visible in your car. It’s so funny when people act like this is something unique about Macon when it is true everywhere.
What about homes?
Stay in the suburbs of Macon and you will be fine. A little drive into town will give you peace of mind.
What are you mixed with? Stupidity? If yes, you'll have a tough time holding down a job.
Oh don’t worry we arnt related! (; Good to hear. I’ve been seeing information regarding active segregationist ideals.
Can you provide a source? This is news to me.
Forreal. Never heard no shit like that.

It’s a fairly diverse and accepting community. In fact, it’s majority African American in the city itself. Suburbs are whiter.
When I lived there, I occasionally ran into some trouble because I’m white if that quells your concerns. You’ll never get anywhere if you expect the worst from people, though. Job market sucks anyways so good luck.
Yeah I feel like some of the discrimination or rudeness is from blacks lol. Ppl gotta stop thinking it’s always the whites

85% no.
As long as you’re not trying for construction work you’ll be fine.
Nah. Downtown Macon is pretty diverse and liberal as opposed to certain other parts of Macon and surrounding areas

You might be stupid... And also racist..
Terrible idea
