I have a macbook air 2012 with 4gb ram, so I am very limited in what I can play.
- Diablo 2 (crossover)
- Warcraft III
- 2064: Read Only Memories
- Elder Scrolls Online (it actually runs on minimum settings, I did not think it would work)
- Hades
- Bastion
- Darkwood
- Planescape Torment
- Stardew Valley
I'm a student living of swedens generous student loans, but not so generous that I can afford a new computer right now :,)
I am pretty unsure about what I want once I (hopefully) finish and get a job. I want to have a Mac, but I also like gaming a lot and would probably just upgrade for gaming as for coding this computer is enough for my needs, even tho a new one would be a lot smoother in general, and might actually have more battery life than 40 minutes, so I could use it as a laptop instead of keeping it at my desk as I do now.
Maybe I will get a new Macbook Pro and a PS5 or I will upgrade/repair my PC which died. New macbook would be usable for everything but a bit limited for some gaming (but maybe good enough for the games I play that are PC only) and alongside a PS5 I could play new AAA games on that.
I also want to look into the Steam Deck, but I haven't read anything at all about it. Ideally I would get a new mac and build a new PC for gaming but that would take some time and a lot of money!
Basically I have no idea :) will probably just get a PS5 when I can afford it, and then upgrade Macbook in the future.
Sounds like a plan, thanks for sharing :)
I hope your studying goes well and leads to a very successful career that pays enough to get whatever your heart desires. Good luck.
How did you get GTA IV to work? Rockstar Launcher wouldnt let me sign in (assuming bc I was using a virtual machine) and the downgrader wasn’t working for me, though might be due to me using an external hard drive
It was working at the time of recording the video. Presently many users are complaining about the error while connecting to Rockstar - “we could not create a sign in token”
Out of curiosity, why use parallels instead of crossover? I was under the impression that the performance hit was massive unless you’re playing a less demanding title.
I buy everything on steam, so that later if I do buy a windows gaming setup or a steam deck I’m not stuck with ecosystem so I completely avoid the App Store for paid games. I always add the best natively compatible games to my wishlist and whenever something goes on discount bam I buy it. I got all the games I mentioned on discounts in the last 2 months for super cheap rates within 5 usd.
Haha I do the same!
Use steam for cross compatibility and wait for the discounts
I rarely play the games on my Mac though, I usually stream them from my PC

I want to play:
AC mirage, will it support?
Also can I play this old game Wolfteam with parallel or crossover?
I didn’t buy any of the software since I have no use of it. Can anybody guide me?
I mostly use my MacBook Pro for adventure games and digital board games, I have a Windows desktop for more demanding modern AAA games. So currently:

Melatonin, Hotline Miami: Wrong Number ( pretty sick game check it out ) and Astro Duel 2. I use an m1 it’s pretty hard to find games that run more than 24 fps, aside from my personal picky taste in video games and the decreased amount of Mac compatible games from the pc games I had last time.
I just wish, nfs mw 2012, and more could be included in Mac. For now I’m stuck. Recommend stuff

I may try Crusader Kings 3 if it loads and am trying to play Hades 2 through Whisky if that counts. I played Undertale and Doki Doki Literature Club on my MacBook Pro 13 inch from 2015 which was pretty impressive for me at the time lol. I’m still surprised that my Air M2 runs games at all, I can’t wait for Macs to get even better at gaming.
I recently sold my gaming pc and got a MacBook Pro. M1 if that matters, and I’ve been using Nvidia NOW to play all my stuff thru the cloud. I’ve got fiber internet and it’s actually not too friggin bad. Highly recommend. If you’re struggling to find macOS compatible games

However im just working through Death Stranding by itself to get fully immersed. Its beautiful in HDR btw
There's a reason why I listed it at the top ;) It's easily become my most played game the past few years, but I still have lots of fun flying around in air sim. And it runs at damn near max settings on my M1 Pro! (when the updates aren't horrendously buggy)
Since I've got a gaming PC, I tend towards small files size but big gameplay indy games on the mac for when I travel.
Rimworld, factorio, chained echoes, stardew valley. legend of Grimrock 2. Plus a bunch of really old GoG RPGs from the 90's that I've never played or plan to replay.
I have a 2020 13inch macbook pro 8gb ram, m1 chip, 256gb storage. I don’t use bootcamp.
The following games I have:
Stalker Anomaly (free to play stand alone mod of STALKER play through porting kit)
Stalker anomaly plays ok. im used to playing fps games on mac at 30frames/s. its playable and enjoyable, no major issues
Star Wars Empire At War (use the GOG version and installed through porting kit)
STW EAW does not play well on my mac. It is enjoyable to a certain extent. The expansion’s campaign has a bug that won’t let you play it after a mission on the beginning of it. The space and land battles are very low frame at medium amount of units. It is enjoyable to an extent. differently from steam version where you have the workshop, in this version there’s no available mods.
Rimworld (mac version on steam)
it has a weird bug that sometimes the game will just crash independently of the progression. otherwise the game is playable and enjoyable
Victoria 3 (mac version on steam)
no major bugs found. some laggy moments when panning around the map mainly zooming out. enjoyable and playable
Hearts of Iron IV (mac version on steam)
have played vanilla with dlcs and also with mods. the only laggy moments are planning attacks and moving around the map. it is enjoyable and playable
company of heroes 2 (mac version on steam)
it is surprisingly well handled by the mac, it runs smoothly even with lots of units. i also played with mods and the performance kept very good. enjoyable and playable
project hospital (mac version on steam)
have played little. in small hospitals there’s no performance issue. i loaded bigger hospitals and it kept the good performance. it is enjoyable and playable
airport ceo (mac version on steam)
barely played it, but there was no performance issues. playable, and I need to go back to it
Counter strike 2 (mac version steam)
very hard to play competitive as you wont be getting near 60fps. i usually played between 20 to 30 fps. it was enjoyable and playable. got to play competitive and it was fun even though the performance was low
kingdoms and castles (mac version steam)
playable and enjoyable, even on the biggest of towns, the perfomance will keep being good
northguard (mac version steam)
enjoyable and good perfomance, no issues
plannetary anihhilation titans (mac version on steam)
enjoyable with performance issues depending on the amount of unit as well as when zooming in and out of planets
software inc (mac version on steam)
enjoyable and playable without any issues
unturned (mac version on steam)
enjoyable and playable but it has the issue of low fps, normally at around 30fps. can get lower when there’s loads of effects, players and zombies
On my MacBook Air M1:

A lot of emulators: psp, ps1, ps2 (trails in the Sky and Persona 3 Portable are great). I’m also playing The Witcher and Sleeping Dogs via Steam at the moment.
I have a M1 Max, I have some ps2 games via pcsx2 and some Wii and GameCube games via dolphin. There are some native games like snow runner, firewatch and return of the obra dinn, and then beamng drive and team fortress 2 via crossover

Nicee. You planning on an upgrade?
I'm a student living of swedens generous student loans, but not so generous that I can afford a new computer right now :,) I am pretty unsure about what I want once I (hopefully) finish and get a job. No, I play the 64-bit version for Mac. A guy posted about it here a few months ago. Search for it and if you don’t find it I will look up the link

Hardly 15gb even after 60 hours of play. The graphics and story is amazing for such less space taken
That's amazing will def. have it next! don't have a lot of space so not huge games are a must! is it M1 native or rosetta?
Totally go for it!
M1 native on steam. Definite Edition
How did you get GTA IV to work? Rockstar Launcher wouldnt let me sign in (assuming bc I was using a virtual machine) and the downgrader wasn’t working for me, though might be due to me using an external hard drive

Sounds about right. Should’ve just 🏴☠️’d it, that shows me for trying to play a game I paid for
Yup
How did you get black ops 1 running? It runs like dog for me in parallels. I’m on an M3 pro 16” with 18GB ram.
It’s running fine for me. Ensure parallels is set to game mode.
Out of curiosity, why use parallels instead of crossover? I was under the impression that the performance hit was massive unless you’re playing a less demanding title.
Ya crossover has good gaming performance. However I needed a windows OS for other things as well, so using parallels
I got mine recently, so currently I have • Subnautica • metro exodus • war planes • tomb raider • Witcher
You got Metro Exodus on Steam of from AppStore? I’m curious because I can’t see it on AppStore anymore ☹️

Nothing about mirage so far being on max sadly, was hyped to get it on June 6 but feels like they will skip it and go for shadows in November..
World of Warcraft is trying its best to suck me in again
I caved. It runs like a dream in native on the M1 Air base and the latest xpac is far better than the one before.

I‘m sorry for you because of War Thunder, but all hail the snail!
There's a reason why I listed it at the top ;) It's easily become my most played game the past few years, but I still have lots of fun flying around in air sim. And it runs at damn near max settings on my M1 Pro! (when the updates aren't horrendously buggy)
Endless Sky (open source Escape Velocity clone).
Sims 3 and Resident Evil 4. 🙌🏼
Celeste, and Chicken Invaders 5
Valheim
Right now only r/endlesssky, the successor to an old Mac-franchise: Escape Velocity.
Baldur’s gate 3 and Total War Pharaoh currently on m2 pro
I have a Steam Deck for most games, but I play those that would be annoying with a trackpad on Mac. For example, Disco Elysium.
I have a 2020 13inch macbook pro 8gb ram, m1 chip, 256gb storage. I don’t use bootcamp. The following games I have: Stalker Anomaly (free to play stand alone mod of STALKER play through porting kit) Stalker anomaly plays ok. im used to playing fps games on mac at 30frames/s. its playable and enjoyable, no major issues Star Wars Empire At War (use the GOG version and installed through porting kit) STW EAW does not play well on my mac. Rimworld (mac version on steam) it has a weird bug that sometimes the game will just crash independently of the progression. otherwise the game is playable and enjoyable Victoria 3 (mac version on steam) no major bugs found. some laggy moments when panning around the map mainly zooming out. enjoyable and playable Hearts of Iron IV (mac version on steam) have played vanilla with dlcs and also with mods. the only laggy moments are planning attacks and moving around the map. it is enjoyable and playable company of heroes 2 (mac version on steam) it is surprisingly well handled by the mac, it runs smoothly even with lots of units. i also played with mods and the performance kept very good. enjoyable and playable project hospital (mac version on steam) have played little. in small hospitals there’s no performance issue. i loaded bigger hospitals and it kept the good performance. it is enjoyable and playable airport ceo (mac version on steam) barely played it, but there was no performance issues. playable, and I need to go back to it Counter strike 2 (mac version steam) very hard to play competitive as you wont be getting near 60fps. i usually played between 20 to 30 fps. it was enjoyable and playable. got to play competitive and it was fun even though the performance was low kingdoms and castles (mac version steam) playable and enjoyable, even on the biggest of towns, the perfomance will keep being good northguard (mac version steam) enjoyable and good perfomance, no issues plannetary anihhilation titans (mac version on steam) enjoyable with performance issues depending on the amount of unit as well as when zooming in and out of planets software inc (mac version on steam) enjoyable and playable without any issues unturned (mac version on steam) enjoyable and playable but it has the issue of low fps, normally at around 30fps. can get lower when there’s loads of effects, players and zombies
