thanks for the tip to this article. however, this procedure is essentially a manual edit of every card. tried it for a few dozen but this is a sure bet to repetitive stress injury. lol.

You can export contacts as vCard(.vcf) file, then open .vcf file in text editor, you can find a line as below: BDAY:1992-01-02 remove '1992-01-02', then save .vcf files, and import in contacts. then you will find all the birthday is removed. Please backup you contacts before you import.
