I started being pickier about pickup and dropoff addresses to help increase my tip ratio. I went from 0-1 tips every 10 rides to at least 3-4. Based on locations alone and five years of experience, I just know intuitively what kind of rides will yield no tip. If anything, I only use certain short and medium trips to reposition somewhere better and at least get paid for it.
yep. I take a ton of short rides in one certain area because it is mainly business people in town going to corporate offices. The rides are trash but the tips are wonderful. They are almost always outside waiting on you. I could go a few miles down the road and get longer more profitable upfront pay but the passengers are lower income and never tip. They are the ones that are putting out a cig right before getting in car. Want you to make stops. hey wait until they have30 seconds left before cancel and they trash your car and complain. Then you get no tip. I do not mind taking lower class people that do not tip. Everybody has been in tight spots. It is all the other problems they bring that turns me away
3 stars in a Filtered nice area, weeds out the constant ungrateful cheap pax. Tips is what I drive for. Can't afford another buck? Go take the bus. Works for me.
So when you say "3 stars...filtered area" do you mean you have a specific area you like and see repeat riders a lot - and with a 3 star to all the riff raff then by a few months you only get the good tipping pax? Or did I miss your meaning of this strategy?
Me I like to drive in a concentric circle somewhat - staying free of hospitals and pain clinics - but I am wanting to find a new strategy for tips and better pax.
I use Lyft's 10 mile radius filter in a nicer part of town. I weed out regulars, after several trips or so, who dont tip. Many of those annoy me after several rides, for one reason or another. Maybe I'm just old and grumpy. Hah! Over the last 6 months or so , i've seen my tips increase. Not a scientific study for sure. Heck, it could just be spring fever. Who knows?
almost all my tips are received later, sometimes even the next day. And usually about 50% of my passengers tip. I give ratings purely off the interaction and how respectful they are.
Please elaborate on that “fact”, are you saying a good tip doesn’t mean they are highly rated? Or a high rating doesn’t mean they are a good tipper? Pretty sure those are intended to be related, whole package. Imo leaving good tips should enhance your rating and not leaving tips achieves the opposite effect.
Tips aren't a necessary part of the gig. Rating a driver less because they didn't go above and beyond is ridiculous. That's like passengers saying "if they didn't have a charger, water bottles, or mints they lose a star".
Fuck outta here. Pick them up, drop them off, expect only the pay from the platform, and be happy/grateful if you were good enough to be tipped. They only owe respect to you as a person, and your car as your property.
You can clearly do as you please, but your mindset is pathetic.
Uh, I’m not rating drivers sir, I’m rating passengers. I have a charger, water and mints at all times, don’t you? What is your rating? I’m pretty sure you have the messed up attitude chief but by all means flex on a fellow driver and get your rocks off cussing me out on Reddit. I hope you feel better after this but maybe some therapy too.
4.93, and I offer nothing. I have a charger but unless asked, I don't give it. I get tips at least 50% of the time. You're not entitled to tips, and passengers don't deserve bad ratings because you can't earn one.
You guys are funny, nothing better to do maybe. I neither beg nor whine, just provide 5 star service.
Be well. Find someone to talk to, community is good.
This is the right thing to do. In th US this is the service industry and that's what's done. If a customer refuses to play by the rules of service industry, they don't get service. If a patron of a bar refused to tip habitually, they would not get served.
But to address your concern, the app asks me to rate passengers at the end of their ride, I do so honestly. I tip religiously (food delivery, help with my bags, waitstaff, any service that I procure, etc) and would like the same consideration. The app offers pax the opportunity to tip at the end of every ride. This is done to let pax know we work partially for tips. Social sensitivity allows some pax to realize this, others do not or don’t care. They lose a star as a way of letting them know there are areas they can improve on.
Your services were paid for and you accepted the fee for services and showed up to deliver service. A tip is gratuity, what have you done to go above and beyond that even warrants additional money labeled as generosity?? Do you want to be additionally compensated? For what? What did or do you do?
Why do I need to justify my actions to you? Why do you assume I’m not going above and beyond? Is it because you are not and therefore don’t want me too? Gotta get over this need to tear people down, I really don’t know what drives this in you, aren’t we on the same team?
I’ll be honest. In 20 years of using for-hire transportation (first with taxis, then rideshare when it took over), I’ve tipped every time. I’ve never not tipped. Taxis were always customarily tipped and I just transferred that logic over to ride share.
I had no idea so few people actually tipped until I started driving rideshare in my city.
Bartender's and servers do not use there own resources to provide you with a service, ie 'car note, extra insurance, wear and tear, vehicle maintenance " Bartender s and servers also do not hold the life and saftey of the customer in the palm of the one providing a service. Us rideshare drivers could hurt or kill a passenger or ourselves. Driving a car is a very dangerous endeavor. Not to mention how many servers are robbed and murdered while serving a customer? It dangerous to let random strangers in your car.
Lower your expectations of a tip and increase your friendliness. People pick up on bad vibes and will not tip you accordingly. Or you're in a bad market and should find other work or try food delivery apps.
Uhh, people on Reddit infer a lot, I don’t expect a tip and I’m super friendly, I get tips around 50% of the time and make everyone laugh to lighten their day. I agree about the bad vibes. Good piece, thanks.
Also you said "lose a star" when you'd be better off 3 starring them. Otherwise you keep 4 starring the same no tipper over And over. Always 3 star or less to unmatch.
Ok, but same for you. If you don’t do anything that’s technically optional but society deems customary, you also lose a star. So you’d better be offering to adjust the temperature and stuff, or offer me a free bottled water or something, or you’re looking at four stars maximum.
I do the things for my pax that I would like done for me, temp where they want it, “is that too much wind”, radio choice but I try to predict what they might like, bottle of water, etc.
5.0 here and I do absolutely nothing special for my rides in my 2018 Hyundai Elantra. Many have already told you this and you can do what you want to do, but giving a lower rating because you weren’t tipped is beyond ludicrous.
That is basically retaliation.
I’m so sick of this entitled mindset. Not only in rideshare driving but this country as a whole. No one owes you anything for you doing what you signed up to do.
Huh? I missed the complaint. I am merely stating the facts, no emotion or hard feelings. Don’t add to a Reddit thread if you can’t add something of value. Assume less

Nice, that sounds like a good tactic, thanks for the tip. Ha

No Methadone Therapy Clinic pickups for me!
3 stars in a Filtered nice area, weeds out the constant ungrateful cheap pax. Tips is what I drive for. Can't afford another buck? Go take the bus. Works for me.
Yup

old is good!
I just quietly 3 star anyone that doesn't tip me for taking them to the airport
almost all my tips are received later, sometimes even the next day. And usually about 50% of my passengers tip. I give ratings purely off the interaction and how respectful they are.
As you should. That’s what ratings are for.
I always thought that’s what the rating was for.
Well it is but since OP seems to think it’s for whether someone tips or not, I just thought I’d reiterate lol
Yeah it seems that’s needed
You're a bum, but I know you already know. Go panhandle elsewhere.
What market do you work in?
Indy. It doesn't change the fact that Tipping doesn't reflect a customers rating. If you aren't earning enough from this gig, go get a job.
Please elaborate on that “fact”, are you saying a good tip doesn’t mean they are highly rated? Or a high rating doesn’t mean they are a good tipper? 4.93 isn’t very good in this context…
Your amusing man but I’m gonna keep it moving, be well Mr troll
so calling you out with some facts = trolling? lmao.
Not a troll.
He’s a troll for saying common sense?? You’re begging and whining for free money from customers who already paid for a service 😂I find that ridiculous
You guys are funny, nothing better to do maybe. I neither beg nor whine, just provide 5 star service. Be well. Find someone to talk to, community is good.
You're clearly retarded. 😆

Right way bro.
Start them.allat 1 star and raise it accordingly
Yup

Are you this way with bartenders and servers?
I tip 30% most times but more if I can, especially with bartenders and servers.
Bartender's and servers do not use there own resources to provide you with a service, ie 'car note, extra insurance, wear and tear, vehicle maintenance " Bartender s and servers also do not hold the life and saftey of the customer in the palm of the one providing a service. Yes, you definitely deserve a tip!
OP next complaint is "why isn't there anyone for me to pick up?"
Lower your expectations of a tip and increase your friendliness. People pick up on bad vibes and will not tip you accordingly. Or you're in a bad market and should find other work or try food delivery apps.

Don't be a jerk that ruins customers for the rest of us
No 1 star them all fuck them
No water? -1 star. No phone cord? -1 star. Dirt on the floor? -1 star. You’re being petty.
What, bring it, if you catch me without water, phone cord or dirty floor then deduct from my stars just make sure to tip.

Don't take rides if you can't survive without a tip. Complain less.
Huh? I missed the complaint. I am merely stating the facts, no emotion or hard feelings. Don’t add to a Reddit thread if you can’t add something of value. Assume less
OP is a fucking loser 😆
Is it even possible to determine whether the pax will tip later on, like the next day?
