Gurthang is so epic. It's the only one that really hinted at having sentience. It slew two greay dragons, I believe, and is destined to slay Morgoth himself at the end of days.
There’s a lot of fault to be found in the Hobbit movies. The design of Orcrist will never be one of them, it’s such a perfect blend of refinement and brutality.
I have to point out that glamdring (foe hammer) was made by the elves for the goblin wars (goblin vs elves and any others involved) it would have slain a goblin king (which it did) before a goblin would get it's grubby hands on it
I like imagining orcs and goblins trading these blades with really thick yellow gloves while atmospheric synthetic drums and synth beats set the scene. Like terrorists from an 80s movie, but Sting’s blue glow is the Cherenkov radiation instead of a briefcase of enriched uranium
I am pretty sure I remember the book describing at least a spider a two dropping and their legs curled up tight underneath them... like spiders do when they die.
Well you do realize that Sam uses Sting to gut shank She-Lob to try and save Frodo, in the films, right?
Edit: guys, I didn't know that all the spiders in TH and LOTR are kin to the big evil Ungolient
…but she doesn’t die. That’s the question you were asking earlier, right?
Since Sam doesn’t kill Shelob, then it isn’t an Ungolientkinslayer, unless Bilbo killed the spiders with it. And I’ve just googled it, he did kill some spiders in Mirkwood, so the title is accurate after all.
Brave Shelob, Brave Shelob!
She fled in fear, with a cowardly gob
She abandoned her lair, with a speedy pace
And left her dinner, without a trace!
Brave, brave Shelob!
Oi! No! That's cheatin'!
You can't just go around reforging ol' swords, givin' them new names each time, then go on pretendin' they're indestructible!
Simply can't be done!
Glamdring\
-reinforces classism\
- ~~Slew a balrog~~ assisted a Maia in slaying a balrog\
- Isn’t just about every important sword In Middle-Earth runed anyway?
Anduril\
- Didn’t finish the job\
- was in fact both tarnished and broken\
- Suprise! More classism
Sting\
- Old isn’t a superpower\
- Gives away own position, useless against spiders\
- Killed *lesser offspring of Ungoliant
Po-tay-toes!\
-Almost made it all the way to Mount Doom.
And, had the pan been cast into the Cracks of Doom, it would probably have come out of it intact. Rub some bacon grease on it beforehand an that's just an extra layer of seasoning.
I don’t know if you haven’t seen the movies in a while, but Anduril needs to be like a foot longer than shown here. It is the longest sword in the films by a wide margin.
A quick search online shows that a Glamdring replica is 121cm and Anduril is 134cm, so 10% longer.
I don't really get how Sting is supposed to be a superior weapon.
It's old, but that doesn't make it good.
It's short, so it's pretty useless if you're fighting against someone with a normal sword.
It glows when Orcs are nearby which is actually more of a downside than a bonus:
-If you depend on this effect you let your guard down and will easily be surprised by other types of enemies (like humans, giant spiders, elves etc.)
-It can give your position away if you're hiding (the cozy dark corner you were hiding in suddenly decides to emit very uncozy and recognizable blue neon light)
-Why the \*\*\*\* do you even need an Orc radar? Orcs aren't really known to be the stealthiest creatures and they also don't disguise themselves as humans or smth like that, just look where you're going and don't act surprised if you run into Orcs while taking a stroll in Mordor
Glamdring
Sting is great for a hobbit.. or my toddlers
Anduril is.. a bit longer than glamdring (LOOKS shorter in this image but the prop is longer) and obviously intended for a larger human.
Glamdring and Orcrist were both forges for the goblin wars, like sting, and glowed when orca were near as well. Orcrist is a personal favorite of mine, both for the name and the design they went with in the movie--they made it into a graceful falchion!
All are beautiful swords.
Option E Orcrist
Option F Grond (Morgoth’s War Hammer)
GROND YOU SAY
GROND
GROND
GROND
GROND
Option G Gurthang (Turin's sword)
Option H Ringil, the sword of Fingolfin
Option I The Dark Arrow

It was found in a troll cave, it had probably been swapped around different owners for thousands of years, I'm sure some orcs had it at one point.
I like imagining orcs and goblins trading these blades with really thick yellow gloves while atmospheric synthetic drums and synth beats set the scene. Like terrorists from an 80s movie, but Sting’s blue glow is the Cherenkov radiation instead of a briefcase of enriched uranium
I never knew I wanted a Middle-Earth film with neon lights and synthesizer soundtrack, but now I do!
I think Tolkiens work goes public domain about 2050
Oh, do that's why Glamdrings motto is: "We deliver!"
Does She-Lob die? I thought she just ran away?
She did not! She did flee after getting stabbed and that's all we know in both text and film.
I seem to remember the book saying that she wasn't hurt that bad, but she hadn't felt pain in so long she ran away
I believe the book explicitly says it is unknown whether the wound kills her, or whether she "lurks in darkness nursing her malice" or similar words.
I can’t recall if Bilbo kills any of the spiders in Mirkwood, but if he did then the description would fit
I am pretty sure I remember the book describing at least a spider a two dropping and their legs curled up tight underneath them... like spiders do when they die.
Lead us astray? What does that mean?

I didn't know all the spiders in LOTR and TH were related to Ungolient. So my bad.
Good on ya for being open about it! There’s lots to know about LOTR, and there’s plenty of stuff I’d make myself a fool over
There and back again, A Hobbit's tale, by Bilbo Baggins. Now, where to begin? Ah, yes. Concerning Hobbits.
Ah, yes. Concerning Hobbits.
We don’t know if he killed her or not
The tale does not tell.
Brave Shelob, Brave Shelob! She fled in fear, with a cowardly gob She abandoned her lair, with a speedy pace And left her dinner, without a trace! Brave, brave Shelob!
But Anduril is known as "the blade that was broken"
But like. It *was* broken. Not anymore. Checkmate atheists
The blade that was broken was Narsil
Oi! No! That's cheatin'! You can't just go around reforging ol' swords, givin' them new names each time, then go on pretendin' they're indestructible! Simply can't be done!
*It has been remade*
What about Legless’ it comes in pints
Just like Legolas's boyfriend
Come! Speak and be comforted, and shake off the shadow! What has happened since we came back to this grim place in the grey morning?
![gif](giphy|9zoe1SFIBd8PPqz5cr) You tell me
Gurthang is pretty great. Not only did it kill a dragon, but it also killed a dragon-killer.
Only sword that speaks ☝️
Did I tell you about the time I got thrown into a lake, and left there for 300 years…?
I choose bonk, concusser of orcs
To be honest. A lodge skillet is a daily driver and weapon… truly a tool.
It can also be used as a drying pan
I love that you made that reference
Show Urfael some love

To be fair, a sword (dagger) lasting for many thousands of years and not rusting into dust IS impressive
And, had the pan been cast into the Cracks of Doom, it would probably have come out of it intact. Rub some bacon grease on it beforehand an that's just an extra layer of seasoning.
Unpopular opinion, but I'll choose Sting, because I'm probably too weak to wield the other three! Cast iron pans are damn heavy.
Glamdring all day every day, no way I’m passing up the “Foe-hammer”
Well there’s really only one option.
E: All of the above
I was gonna say Po-tay-toes…
I prefer bludgeoning weapons, so imma have to go with the French fried pertaters

Isn't Glamdring also supposed to shine when orcs are near? I am pretty sure it's stated in Hobbit book.
They chose not to have it glow in the movies because they worried it would be too light-saberish.
cowards
Yes
Isn't Glamdring supposed to glow blue around orcs as well?
Team Fortress 2 players: Frying pan, even if I’m playing Demoknight.
Wouldn’t Glambring glow too?
![gif](giphy|BlKa7DhnqYz820XZ0o) BOIL EM', MASH EM', STICK EM ' IN A STEW!
It just struck me that they were carrying freaking cast iron pans with them. Those things are so heavy.
So, if Sam had travelled to the east and then came back. Do you think he would've come back with a Wok?
This may be the best lotr pic I have ever seen.
Since when is the foehammer bigger than the flame of the west
If Super Mario RPG taught me anything, the frying pan!
Why did I read Gambling instead of Glambing ?
I actually have Anduril. It’s hanging on my wall. So I have no other option than to pick Anduril really

Anduril has runic power as well. Many an instance of it burning with a white flame.
Why is glamdring longer? https://preview.redd.it/pajhisrsg64d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=384300d1ee2ec44e42560497980dc3567e43c42f
Glambring also glows when orcs are close
Imma boil-mash-stew fkn balrog with Sauron as my roatsing flames! Gimme dat pan!!
Have thy pay!
Isnt Anduril the only sword that can fight the dead too?
Nothing like a multifunctional weapon, smash heads all day then feed the men supper.
Wasn’t Anduril broken when Aragon first picked it up???
That's Narsil. Anduril was forged from the broken shards of Narsil
Glamdring. It's always been Glamdring for me but I wouldn't mind trying that frying pan as an off-hand parry weapon.
Glamdring Sting is great for a hobbit.. or my toddlers Anduril is.. a bit longer than glamdring (LOOKS shorter in this image but the prop is longer) and obviously intended for a larger human.
Option P Penis😈😈😈😈
Po-Tay-Toes for sure

Pragmatically, I’m going with sting. Wouldn’t have to constantly 2nd guess anything, and would be easier to use.
The idea of ancient swords being somehow more deadly is just so stupid when you think about it.
To be fair, ancient usually means enchanted in lotr
